Subscribe!!
The Oregonian is an award winning news organization with excellent reporting on a wide spectrum of issues in our state.
Unless you want to subscribe, don’t bother
Even the most lightweight stories are firewalled with the latest update, so there’s nothing to read except headlines. I know The Oregonian is struggling for money, but $150 per year for mediocre writing is ludicrous. Especially when you compare the cost of much better papers like the New York Times and the Washington Post.
?
Sports news about local teams mostly a day late even when their scores are early in the day before!
Timbers Soccer?
Very weak coverage of this pro team!
New format!
Somewhat confusing. Previous format was easier to use and find wanted sections. Particularly the TV program listings.
Essential Read
Now more than ever The Oregonian’s reporting and analysis is an essential read.
Total Left Wing Newspaper
No objective news coverage
One feature is annoying
The app is easy to use and I use it every day. Having local news is critical to me. But the feature that shifts the article I am reading to another format is very annoying to me. Please give us a switch to turn off that feature. Thanks
terrible
the paper is pretty good but the app is very clunky and difficult to navigate.
Oregonian
I enjoy reading the Oregonian on this app. One downside is that there are no page numbers listed electronically like the previous app had. I miss that to confirm that I am at the end of the paper.
Good journalism
The Oregonian is a quality, reliable news source, which is probably way undervalued. Journalism of such high standards must be supported or we lose a critical piece of our democracy.
Drives me nuts
Hostile interfaces
Generally good app, but glitchy - often need to reload.
I really enjoy only about one-third of the news and commentary which can be very good ( e.g. George Will and Leonard Pitts), with most of the other stories irrelevant, delusional, or selling the latest flavor of popular obsessions. But to be fairly informed, I force myself to read some of the latter. 1/27/25 update. New app appears much better and I like expanded content.
Daily Essentials
Young or old, we are better for having professional journalists and critics keep us fully informed. TV is mostly crime and disaster headlines. The Oregonian gives us sports, easy to read comics, personal problem coaching, political news, and other practical guidelines. Local, state, regional and national news is delivered early each morning in impressively well written form. Obits, entertainment highlights and personal stories too. That’s a lot for the monthly amount charged. I’m glad we have the option of four days a week delivery. My wife and I often cut out articles for sharing or reading later. And no, I have no personal or professional connection to the paper. I am just a grateful reader.
New apps works on my new iPad mini but not on husband’s larger iPad
Hard, sometimes impossible, to navigate on a full size iPad.
Response
Easy to read. I loved reading the newspaper but I have to say this works. I need the news- - the REAL news. Especially at this time!
Unhappy
You guys have ruined the paper. You have filled it with duplicate sports and comics just to make it feel like more. You have eliminated the national business section which we all have interest in. I am about to cancel subscription because of all of this after 30 plus years. Also missing previous days scores and many times it doesn’t show up until 2 days later
Paper changes
I’m not as upset as the readers I read about today I am 78 years old and am at that age where change is not as welcome as in my younger years but I am finding that some of the changes are making it easier to read the items I like best it’s nice to click on an item and have it be automatically enlarged I think that it was so sudden that people were caught off guard. All in all I am getting used to the changes and think I’m going to like them just fine
Extreme liberal bias
Very unbalanced coverage of national politics and the national news because of reliance on WAPO, NYT, LAT, Politico, etc. Local and state reporting seething with woke-ism (pronouns, etc.). Only keep the subscription for the crossword puzzles.
Has the news, but underlying structure wobbly
Can’t update credit card payment here. News story navigation is a bit awkward. But it does have the contents of the paper.
My Daily Routine
I look forward to seeing my sports section and then local news and what is happening Internationally.
Disgusted
Lousy ability to pull up stories or even scan pages on my iPhone. Frequently dumps me out. And now, no clear way to even send this review.
App fails to maintain state
The iPad can go to sleep and when it wakes up the app has closed down. Relaunch and I wait and wait for it to reload and display today’s paper so I can reopen it. Frequently get a spinner and need to kill and restart the app to get it to reload the paper. Basic app 101 stuff to cache the last thing I was reading when iOS signals the app it is sleeping/closing and display where I was when it opens again.
Where are the main Sunday comics?
To start with, I do like not having to wade through the afternoon editions to find my preferred morning editions. That’s a positive. I switched to the electronic paper due to the continuously reduced number of printed paper days, and soaring prices. It made sense to get all the papers in one place. As long as I got everything that was in the printed editions, I was happy. But with this latest change, I can’t find the main collection of Sunday comics that were in the print paper and the supplements before. That makes me very disappointed. I’m not going out to a different site to look at a listing of comic names in a TOC to try to find my 20 or so favorites. That’s ridiculous. I want to open one app and my one paper (with a supplement or two), and catch up on the news and comics over a meal. Reading the paper is not supposed to be a research project. Bring back the Sunday comics to the electronic newspaper…please.
Stuck
The latest version was pretty good until it REALLY wasn’t. In today’s edition I am stuck in the individual article mode. I was in that mode, reading an article in the sort of pop up window, when I had to step away from my iPad for several minutes. I returned to find that the app had timed out, forcing me to tap the icon to get back into the app. It was still in the single article mode! That seemed like a nice feature, except the Nav button in the upper left is Home, not Back, and Home takes me out to the opening app page, not to this day’s edition. Other than swiping left through EVERY SINGLE ARTICLE in today’s edition, I have no way to read today’s paper in the app. I’ve tried restarting the app, going to a different day’s edition and back to today, and logging out of the app, but nothing gets me out of article mode for today. The only other thing I can think of is to delete the app and reinstall, but I’m sick of doing that for so many apps that have serious bugs.
Wood stoves
The Oregonian has gone way too liberal in their reporting. For example yor article on wood burning was purely from the perspective of Oregon’s DEQ, a very liberal organization. We would like to see articles that give multi points of view not just the liberal or woke point. Marv Leach
Good stuff
Like the new format, thanks for the wonderful edition
It is terrible
Thinking about cancelling my subscription. The paper is now very difficult to navigate and sign into. Do really hate your readers.
Where’s the Fairness
I’m troubled by the way a majority of the items are written. It seems like most things are written with too much of a liberal stance. I would like to see more items written with an equal liberal/conservative slant. Also, it would be nice to see a return of Spider-Man to the comics. Spider-Man was dropped several years ago but with the world wide popularity of superheros (movies, books, comic books) it would be great to see him reappear in the Oregonian.
PRINTING PUZZLES
PUZZLES NOT PRINTING AFTER FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO PRINT THEM. NEW FORMAT NOT WORKING.
Navigating
Seriously?!? No section bookmarks??? That seems soooo basic.
Oregonian on line
Not an improvement, waste of your time. The previous version was organized and read more true to the analog version delivered to our address.
I love the new format!
I have spent a week navigating the new format and I love it. Sure, some stuff has changed but all in all I appreciate the larger pages in the print version and the navigation on the online version. Thanks!!
Terrible new interface
I can’t stand the new digital interface! It’s hard to navigate and not intuitive 👎🏼👎🏼
A big “NO” to the new format
This new format makes it twice as hard to find what you want to see! The extra In-depth is OK but try finding the television listings! You no longer even have the channel numbers listed. The Home section on Wednesdays doesn’t have the number of recipes as the old format. I don’t like to have to flip through each article on a page, even the comics are one strip per page, and if you want to enlarge something this new format will not let you do so. I have been a subscriber for many years as were my family before me, but now this new format makes me wonder if it is worth subscribing to anymore.
The Oregonian
Great news paper.
New Online Edition
Your new online edition is truly terrible. It’s impossible to navigate it. When you click on an article it jumps to some other random article. There’s no way to go from page one to the sports section other than page by page. You really need to go back to the drawing board on this.
Bad Decision
Not a fan of new format. Print tiny. Difficult and time consuming to navigate. Have been subscriber for nearly 50 years. Change for good is OK, but this isn’t OK.
