- App freezes and runs very slowly
- Support never actually fixes login issues
cool
it is a good structured app with all information I need
Underwhelming
It died when USA bought it. Woke POS Newspaper!
Used to work but now freezes on iPad
I’m a OregonLive subscriber and happily used this app for years on my iPad 9th gen. Sometime in the last month the app became unusable with slowness and freezing. I have no trouble with other apps. I removed and reinstalled but this did not work. Finally my workaround was to remove the OregonLive app permanently and add a Home Screen link to the Oregonlive web page.
Annoying: Now Only Fragments of Articles
A so-so app has taken a monumental downturn. The OregonLive app now only includes the first paragraph of each article. It’s a poorly designed and flawed attempt to get readers to subscribe, yet every complete articles are accessible at no cost on oregonlive.com. What’s the point of the app now?
Janky so dar
Usually the app works well as. However, there’s been two instances in the last two days since I’ve been using it where, despite the fact I was already signed in it hasn’t let me view an article saying, “to continue reading you need a subscription…”. After I push the button saying, “ restore purchase” and got a message from the app that said “ purchase history restored” the app simply went back to the original page saying that I needed a subscription and never let me read the actual article. Another time, when I clicked on a link in an article within the app, it took me outside the app to Oregonlive.com to read the article, again blocking my access to the article when it did so and saying I needed to sign in.
No longer useful for local news
So much content is now under pay wall, increasingly each week, so not useful source of local news
Poor performance!
Often very slow. Even in the background, it makes my phone sluggish. After two or three articles, it begins freezing for a minute or so.
Paid subscription, massive ads
There are so many ads, even though I am a subscriber. The ads are so invasive it slows down pages loading on my I pad, I doubt I will keep subscribing.
Rip Off Artists
There is nothing good to say about OregonLive. I subscribe to two national newspapers and one UK newspaper and never have been denied access to any of them. I am continually being denied access to Oregon. The Oregon AG should investigate them. They are ripping off their subscribers.
Gone downhill
Deleted. The opinion section turned into scare tactics. Yes Portland is dealing with big city problems comparable with those of most cities on the west coast. That doesn’t make good content. All bad news divides the community, we need to be shining a light on the good. The grassroots community efforts are what MADE Portland. Let’s maybe elevate those?
The intrusive ad at the top of the screen
The layout of the app is good except for the omnipresent ad at the top of the screen. I don’t mind ads, but it’s annoying and drives me to the web version of the site instead. Take a page from The NY Times how to display your ads in app.
Love the Paywall
Love how all the left-leaning media outlets have gone behind paywalls.
Annoying. Not Worth Subscribing
Even as a subscriber, ads auto-play interrupt AirPlay content running on background apps. Sponsor links are hypersensitive, counting any brush of the screen as a click… Dreadful.
Mediocre news for Portland.
Never update, or you won’t be allowed to read half the stories without paying a subscription fee. They replaced most local updated news with advice, sports, and articles about places to worsen your obesity with expensive food and justify your alcoholism with beer and wine bars. Occasionally they do good in depth articles about abuses of our shifty politicians on both sides of the spectrum. Unfortunately they seem to have gotten rid of most of their reporters, so when something big does happen, they won’t be equipped to cover it. I sometimes miss the comments, but I think they made me irritable most of the time anyway. I’d rather not know how many racists there are around here.
Paywall extremes
Far too many articles are behind a paywall. Makes this app functionally useless.
Ads, costs & cluttered
It’s like they’re not trying. This app is just as terrible as the rest of the news apps. It’s sad this app replaces a newspaper. This is just fast trash in your face with constant pop ups and marketing. Then, the interesting article is one you have to pay or subscribe.
Good for news with frustrations
I like format and content, but since they added subscriber content only articles it NEVER remembers I am a paying customer and I just logged in so I have to log in for every subscriber article. Doesn’t seem to remember me and this happens on iPhone and iPad. The fact it doesn’t have Face ID along-in doesn’t help. Arrrrrrrgh!
Access
I subscribe thru the app but am blocked from reading the entire article ….
App is buggy!
The Oregonlive app crashes, won’t save articles, and won’t allow sharing stories.
iPad app loads slow and freezes
Very frustrating. On my brand new iPad, it loads slowly and then after one menu selection, freezes and won’t allow selection of another.
Paywall barricades
I’m a paid subscriber but keep getting paywall ads when I try to read an article. I’ve contacted support services numerous times in an attempt to have the issue fixed, but nothing changes. I guess I’ll just keep up on the news by reading headlines. Not much value for $99 a year.
Doesn’t recognize subscription
I’m a longtime subscriber, have logged in properly, yet the app keeps demanding I login to continue reading, which doesn’t work. The thing is broken, not that it ever worked very well.
