Works intermittently
This app is so inconsistent. It’s terrible. For the last couple of weeks, it will not allow me to open an article. I’m signed in so that’s not the problem.
Like the app, but…
Overall I like the app. I appreciate being able to get Sonoma County news no matter where I am. I am frustrated though by the functionality. Often, I can click on and article and it brings that artcle up in a new window which I can save or share. But this function often disappears, sometimes for a day, often longer. What gives?
No new stories for 4 days and counting
The tiles haven’t updated since Wednesday. The only way to get current news is to go to the e edition but a phone screen is to small to see it well. There are major fires burning in the area and it would be good to have some information available easily
Clicking on links Seems broken
Like someone else said in another review when I click on a link now and tap on it, nothing happens. It kind of flickers and then does nothing. I checked that I was logged in and I checked to see if there was an update for the app that I had missed or something but no. My subscription seems current and the last update was four weeks ago. I hope somebody can fix this because it’s really really annoying.
Older iPad
My IPad will not update to the new version. I am so disappointed. Since I really only use the iPad for reading the PD, I have to cancel my subscription. So sad.
June update eliminated pdf version for me
And when I try to sign in on the pop-up to get it back, it doesn't recognize my password, and when I ask to reset pw, it fails to send link to my email address (yes I checked the spam folder.) Oddly, I'm still able to access stories via Latest News.
Links are broken
The app has a frustrating bug where tapping on many articles does nothing. More than half the articles I try to open don’t respond and restarting the app doesn’t fix it. Do better PD.

Great local paper
Articles are topical, accurate and cover both local and national news that are of interest. A very enjoyable read
Why is an update required so often?
Of all of my apps, the Press Democrat app requires me to update the most often. Please stop requiring updates so often
Stories keep crashing
Stories are automatically closing themselves after I try to open them on my iPhone XR. I never had this issue with the older version of the PD app. Very frustrating.
What a mess!
I follow a link and get “that page is not available”. I am asked to subscribe with no link to log in to my existing account. I click around, find a way to log in and I still can’t find the story about the 49ers win, I was informed about. You have work to do; it all worked well before.

Comics on phone
The prior version allow viewing comics in landscape mode. This version doesn’t. Thus version will show the same article multiple times in single article mode.
Buggy
The new app is incredibly buggy and prone to crashing. The most annoying thing however, is the fact that it is crammed with animated advertising, even for those that pay plenty of money for a subscription. The eEdition is not bad, but can only be accessed after waiting to load and unload the add-filled home page.
Slow to load
Overall, a reasonably decent experience, but far too slow to load.

Worst news app
It took several tries to be allowed to subscribe to the PD. After repeated “something went wrong” messages I was finally able to subscribe. I’m sure there’s some way around this but I have yet to find it. At present I can access a tiny thumbnail page from today’s edition. If i click on the page, it opens a random article from that page. I have no idea how to increase the page size or how to choose what article will open. I believe I’m computer literate. I’ve been online for about 30 years. I’m reasonably competent at navigating websites if the website is reasonably accessible. It seems like the PD is deliberately trying to chase readers away.
A terrible update
Thie newly updated app barely works on an iPad. Frequently the text version does not open and the only way to read is to expand the image and scroll around for columns. This morning the app showed only the newspaper from the previous day and there was no way to get an update. I have not once been able to read the comics, the baseball standings, or the weather from the app. I have the strong feeling the developer told the PD the app was ready and they just released it witn no QA. Two stars is generous. This app seriously has me considering cancelling my subscription after 15 years. (Fortunately the website seems to work.)
New app needs one improvement specifically
Unlike many others here, I don’t have a problem with the new app EXCEPT for one thing. In the E edition when I go to the comics, and enlarge any particular comic on my iPad, it never gets clear. It remains blurry and not easily read. The old edition app would become super clear no matter how much I enlarged it. Once they fix this issue I could give it more stars.

Doesn’t Seem to Work Anymore
I get an error message every time I try to open it, both on my phone and iPad. Tried deleting and reinstalling, but it didn’t help. I liked it when it worked.
Puzzle problems
Why do I loose what I’ve started in a sudoku puzzle whenever I leave it or get kicked out of the puzzle? Someone please fix that….the crossword puzzle needs some tweaking as well. Why doesn’t the paper come up sometimes it tells me no internet when in fact I have all the bars and settings says I’m connected?
Worse app ever!
Not user friendly at all. Wish me luck in trying to teach my 92-year-old mother how to navigate it!

Everyday I enjoy the PD.
Paid for ads? Seriously?
What is new but not mentioned with the latest version is an ad banner across the bottom. I pay for online access to the PD. I do this because I no longer live in the delivery area but I want my lifetime local newspaper. My expectation is that I should be getting an electronic copy of the paper- ads and all. You could charge me more for this, but you have no business charging me for the dubious “privilege” of being accosted with an extra splash banner ad every time I scroll to a new page or adjust the size of the one I am reading.
My morning read......via travel....
Not only do I enjoy reading about all the happening locally,regionally,nationally and globally, I get to do all of of this and more(sports & weather) while I’m thousands of miles away. The articles are extremely well written, very informative and most importantly, the whole staff is relevant. While travel has its perks, not as much anymore, having the PD literally at my fingertips keeps me grounded and makes me feel closer to home. Most ppl don’t travel as much as I do, so this “option “ given by PD is one that I would insist upon for all who will begin too or already have begun traveling abroad. Thank you very much for all your hard work, it pays off for me!!! Don’t change a thing, But if you have new ideas or concepts that you are entertaining, you must first present to me foe approval before moving forward with the additions and/or changes that would be implemented by the PD!!! Phone app not a good fit for 24" monitor
I have a 24" monitor the this app can't be resized larger than an iPad Mini. It's like examining an elephant with a magnifying glass. This is not a good change and does not make me want to continue my subscription.
My Morning Ritual
I look forward to every morning to start my day with opening up the PD. We are early risers. Days I am not excited about heading out in the cold to pick up my delivery, I can start online. Either one or the other is nearly always available. Thank you for your reliable service!

Problem “popping” (opening in new page like eEdition) articles - now fails only in current edition but works for previous edition. “Popping” feature added manually as not automatic yet.
