Really good free app
Its free work goos
Needs Work!
Making this free does’t make it better. I’m really not happy that I gave away my personal information to this company… for NOTHING. The overall UI looks fine… and that’s where it ends. Nearly every feature is frustrating or counter-intuitive to find and use, there are too many widgets, and how can there be a ‘Friends’ tour without making clear how to invite/incorporate friends? Honestly: it feels like a Senior Project that never got finished. While the app has promise, it needs someone dedicated to making it work on a full-time basis… most frustrations I’ve uncovered should be simple code fixes. Why they would advertise in the NA BMW MOA mag is beyond me.
Missin speedometer
The route planning is the best of the programs I've tried. I would like a speed display and also a speed limit display, cf. Calimoto or Waze. The color scheme is also quite a rainbow and would be nice if it could be changed by user.
Needs development in usability and mobile friendliness
The very first thing you want to do when you land on any new app is to get started easily and right away. When you land on a new navigation software the first thing you want to try out is to plan a new route. And that most usually involves waypoints and POIs. And you want to create the route it fast, easily, intuitively. In Tourstart vreating a new route is made unnecessrily complex. The app is not easy to take in to use, having a too steep learning curve to figure out the operating logic. Especially on a small device (like mobile phone) drawing the route on a map does not work well as it is an inaccurate method and results as too many misses and then re-iterations to make the route right, and you need to start the drawing functionality again always after lifting your finger from the map/screen, and then you will not likely hit the line accurately enough anymore on continuing the drawing and then your route is screwed. The search functionality of the app does not support searching a place and adding that result as a waypoint directly from the search. Also is not supported adding new waypoints during ongoing navigation. The map does not support intuitive methods to add waypoints per a certain tap sequence or options for example by tap and hold. Overall the app user interface and operating logic is made too complex, not intuitive, and the app does not apply common idioms implemented about on all navigation software and apps today so is not supporting mental models the users already have. The app may now try to differentiate from others by its unique fesign but ends up trying to be too much different, individual, and unfortunetely now stumbling on that. Simplify, simplify and then simplify once again. Make a reference study on the most popular navigation apps on the market today and see what is working well on them and support that on Tourstart app by remembeing that millions of people use those apps already today. If you want to win users from them you need to be in par with the functionality in some extent. Then differentiate your app by certain amount and by distinct look and feel. But, simplify! The Tourstart app is a good start and likely will have market value per the number of recreational motorist out there looking for alternatives for the G and A monster apps that actually do the navigation part really well but then lack significantly in route planning features - and that is the niche for Tourstart and that Tourstart would need do implement exceptionally well. Keep pounding!
Great app
Great app
Not ready for release.
Looks like it may be an ok program, eventually, but currently is lacking; (Jan 2024). Not intuitive at all. I searched every icon presented & could not find how to place a waypoint or to ‘draw’ a route. Waste too much of a prospective user’s time & we’ll head back to those apps/programs we know.
Tourstart RideTwister rocks!
I love the RideTwister slider and the limitless route recalculations it offers. I've experimented with numerous apps, but at present, RideTwister stands out as the best. Using the slider to modify the twist intensity grants me a broader range of route options compared to any other app I've tested.
Has it improved recently ?
I used it four years ago and it was less than adequate. I saw in the BMW Motorcycle Owners of America Owner news for January and February 2024 that it is now free for MOA members. Has anyone tested this recently and put some feedback out anywhere?

Wow! I wouldn’t even give this app 1 star but I guess I had to. To complicated and I ran out of time quickly to figure it out. Finger draw would have been a good concept but to small to use and it doesn’t follow the route I wanted to go. I could sure use the app space for something else. Sorry Tourstart, your gone! Deleted! Just like that! Ha!

I've been struggling with Tourstart for hours and hours... but too much is too much! It's potentially great, but it does not simply work!

Nice layout. Simple concept. When navigation gets on board it has the most potential of any motorcycle app as of late. So far so good!

Not ready for prime time
I tried to download some maps to no avail. The app said it was downloading, I have plenty of signal and after two hours no maps and the app confirmed that. Oh I tried to find what was the problem and went the FAQ and tried to use the users manual, which was a joke. Nada, nothing. A waste of time. I don’t like being a negative nelly but I found nothing in the app that worked. I use navigation apps at my job all day every day and when I am traveling ashore. I’m a big fan of backcountry hiking and have mapping programs for those pursuits. I have an app for when I am bicycling. The Tourstart app can not hold a candle to any of them. There does seem to be some good ideas in the mix that unfortunately don’t work and I have high hopes that with diligent efforts on the developers part they may be successful eventually. I would not have this available to the public until you have vetted it with people in the know as your going to ruin your customer base with negative ratings. So my suggestion is to take it off the market, work like hell to get a good stable product, change the name so old attitudes don’t follow you and make a splash. Seriously
I don't get it.
I am highly experienced with iPhone navigation apps like Waze, Google Maps, the iOS maps, mapquest and many others. I spent over an hour trying to figure out how to make this app work. It is glitchy and lacks an intuitive interface. I never did figure out how to get even one route programmed. I even spent the $14 for the full features. Money wasted.
