What people like
- Game works perfectly offline without needing internet
- Fast forward feature makes the slow pace manageable
- No microtransactions needed to enjoy the main game
What they complain about
- Ads interrupt gameplay constantly and are hard to close
- You must pay or watch ads to progress easily
- Buildings cannot be moved once you place them
One of the best!
I’ve adored this game for years and I’m eager to get it on the Switch. I love the music so so much, and the stimulating strategy isn’t too overwhelming or stressful for me-I find it rather peaceful even in its chaos.
Slow, unclear
This game sucks. I wish I could find good resource building games like we used to have- I love Castle Story and I played Here Be Monsters on Facebook. Nothing is remotely close to those world building games.... you can't do anything to interact with the world and none of the interactions make sense.
Challenging yet fun
I think the age should be 10+. While is a fun game concept I think younger Childern would not like it. I also wish villagers would keep working even when away from game. Thanks
Confusing and Limited
Started playing and immediately didn’t like it. Very limiting, with no way to move or demolish anything, no way to interact with people, and very unclear on how to check on or manage resources. Also, the women apparently don’t count towards the population, so they are uncountable and not interactive. It’s unclear if they do tasks or not, bc you can’t assign them anything or see what they’re up to, though the sprites appear to be working. Kinda sexist and pretty confusing
Broken Ads
Fun game with a lot of map options and many ways to create your town. It, however, gets a little irritating that so much requires watching ads (unless you want to pay $$) to do, but the ads are getting more and more stuck. First it was just the SnapChat ad that didn’t give you an exit button, but now it’s almost every ad. No way to forward to another window or close the one you’re in. So, for example, to build a farm you may watch an entire ad for the prestige but then have to close out the entire app just to get out of it, forfeiting the prestige you just watched it for. The most recent update specifically states “to fix broken ads” sooooo just letting you know that it didn’t work.
Easy game
Well balanced without frustration
What????
I downloaded the game a few years ago and had deleted it. I just downloaded it again, and I see why I deleted it. It is literally unplayable. I don’t want to watch YouTube videos to learn what to do. If it takes that much to even know how to harvest crops or work with animals, the game is not well developed. I can’t even clear trees. Deleting for good.
Good game
I just wish we could move our castle…(and other buildings after they have already been placed without destroying them)
Constant rebuilding I’m done
Simply- I’d have to watch 20-30 ads in order to afford to rebuild my whole city every hour or so of play, which doesn’t include the rebuilding between a mass rebuild. You’re constantly having to spend resources and prestige on rebuilding after each winter. Prestige is earned mainly by watching ads. It is not worth it. I’m all done after 3 days of playing.
Tutorial not enough
For someone who has no idea how to play these games, a tutorial on how to implement each item would be helpful. I had no idea how to get herbs to my doctor. Took me way too long to figure out. :-(
Отличная игра!
Мне очень понравился геймплей вашей игры, очень высокая графика, интересно играть, все реалистично, все как я люблю! Спасибо за впечатление! Удачи в разработке обновлений!
Has had too many ads for years
Game hasn’t been good since like 2014
Time management
Townsmen is simple and technical in moderation. The perfect way to practice time management and planning during down time.
Leave me alone!
Fun game, but it would ask to be rated three or four times a day. So it gets a 2.
Need more options added.
This game is good to play. * May I suggest that you add the ability to move buildings instead of plowing them down and having to rebuild them? * Storage is never enough in my warehouses, please increase the storage amount. * No matter how much beer or wine I buy, it’s never enough. I get so tired of the constant reminder/warning. I buy beer and wine and as soon as I go back to the game, it’s gone. WTH! * Why am I limited on what I can sell or buy? I will never get ahead in the game if these limits stay the same. Great game but needs to be adjusted.
Awesome!
Been playing this game for years!
Ads in mid-game
Seemed like an okay game until I was interrupted by an ad in mid game. Uninstalled.
It’s great but......
Could maybe do with a bit over an overhaul now, love this game and it is in my opinion the best city builder out there, which doesn’t require you to complete difficult task to progress, and I love sandbox mode! Could do with being able to move buildings etc once placed rather than having to either leave where they are or destroying and rebuilding!

非常非常难🤦
Add Arabic language
Nice game, but we need to add the Arabic language. I feel lost in it. It needs a language.

Super difficult even on easy mode
It’s a hard game, always low in money, no matter how much you sell things or increase tax. it’s very frustrating and not enjoyable to play at all.
A must try
Brilliant game, that's it; the whole concept is brilliant for those who enjoy this type of game. I've been playing it for the past 2 years, on&off. Playable Offline, does not force you to do anything, you don't get blocked by tasks to build you town, interesting scenarios, brilliant time lapse... I mean for a free game..., what else can you ask? Well, to start getting rid of the townie that can never reach is destination unless he's told to swim. Different building options within the same build up chain like; a community centre working in the same chains as the tavern, rotating buildings and ability make them invisible would be nice. What about a sand box creator? Overall development milestones with a change of architecture and new technologies/building chains... Perhaps some different cultures and environments would spice the game up, it does look a little white world, but without compromising its simplicity... Tough task maybe? I'll tell you an easy one... Ads in the middle of game play? Low blow ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️➖1️⃣ Anyway, I'll keep on playing... Offline, after all, still brilliant game!
Solid game. Unreasonable ads
Really great concept, gameplay, animation, I liked it. Just couldn't get over the impossible to exit ads. I could never get bonus rewards for ads because the only way out of the ad was to restart the app, so frustrating. Also, the constant ad banner up top PLUS unavoidable periodic ads seems a little over the top. If you want to retain users, pick one or the other.
A great game but it needs more.
I enjoy the game greatly but have started drifting away from it. Why? It needs more in sandbox mode especially at higher levels and late game. More in what way? Not sure. Maybe buildings or activities. Here are a few other additions I want to see though. 1. More storage space in warehouses. In the late game they fill up as soon as they are built. 2. Ways to increase forest regrowth. Another late game limiter. 3. More large maps for sandbox mode. 4. A use for gold beyond necklaces for quests and market. Maybe a mint that converts it into thaler.
Best game ever
So addicting and fun I love it
Отвратительно!
Включаешь игру, а там на пол экрана вылазит реклама, вот и играй как хочешь, отстой полный
Love it
Very cute, very rewarding game; would 100% recommend. However, I've a few improvements for the developers: - More sandbox settings e.g. Unlimited coin, all buildings unlocked... - Some sort of building locator as I always struggle to locate my mines in particular. - A setting to make buildings invisible so I can see what's behind them? (Especially large townhouses) - Would be nice to be able to rotate buildings. - A button to make all my dirt roads into cobble, it is exhausting doing this by hand. - More decorations, e.g. More statues, or plant pots? - The build button (the hammer) is sometimes off screen, e.g. When building very close to edge of land. - The "townie cannot reach destination" thing is annoying. Especially when the townie is trying to get to a decoration that's surrounded by other deco. E.g. A nice fountain cannot be surrounded by flowers or they'll complain:/ - The trade guild can only be built once. - More buildings? E.g. Nicer looking large townhouses and cathedrals? - Finally, I know it's not a modern day setting, but it's a little sexist. The women stay home and go shopping, whilst the men work. There are also no people of colour. I just think representation is important. Would appreciate you taking a read, I love this game and only want to see it do well. My review may be subject to updates as the game changes. Thanks :)
Restore transaction
I’ve purchased this game on Samsung and now would like to play again on my new iPhone but I have purchased the whole game and would like to restore transactions to this phone is there any way to do so
Great graphics but I’m totally lost
Tried this game again after a years gap but still can’t get a grip on the gameplay. More tutorials please!!
Game is awesome!
I played this game in jail when they gave us tablets in 2020 and recently started playing again how I’ve missed this game killed a lot of time playing . And now back at it again as a free man . Wooooohoooo
Stole my money
Scammers! They made a purchase on my behalf without my consent.
Addictive
This game is great I have been playing on it none stop but one problem it crashed and wouldn’t load so I deleted the app and reinstalled but now I have lost everything and put a lot of money into this game and can’t find any information on how to get all my progress back
Crashing
I used to love this game, but now it’s crashing constantly in less than a minute when I try to continue a scenario I started yesterday.
Entertaining enough Settlers 2 knock off
Would rather have been able to pay to buy it outright than be nickel and dimed for features that should be in the game (such as fast forward) but entertaining enough.
Game
I have been playing this game for years. I love it
Not good
Downloaded and deleted almost immediately, there’s an ad banner that just remains at the top of the screen while you play, the little “x” to get rid of it just takes you to the App Store to download. The play is rubbish too, looks super old fashioned, I did one task and it took forever. Don’t bother downloading
its a love hate game
love it but hate the fact you have to pay to remove adds and the add bar in the gsme is annoying
Brilliantly engineered to keep you hooked...
.....but will cost you ££££ in the process. The gameplay itself is brilliant; but it is physically impossible to generate the resources you need to progress in the game without a continual stream of in app purchases. For example, buildings randomly get set on fire, and you need “Prestige” to put them out. Prestige is gained mainly by buying it, or watching an endless stream of advertising videos. I like the game ethos; I would have paid good money for a game that didn’t insidiously require me to put my hand in my pocket for £1.99 here, and £2.99 there - SEVERAL TIMES EACH GAME - to make any sort of progress. I played the tutorial, one game where I bought the add ins, and one where I tried to complete it without spending any money, it was impossible - so I’m out; very disappointing.
Okay
Sometimes some of th male townies are invisible, road building is clumsy, like more choice of bridges and end of year accounts
Like Banished for Mobile
I love the old computer game Banished, and Townsmen satisfies in much the same way. I only wish it had some extra hard settings. But the gameplay is reasonable challenging and quite immersive, so that I have to set an alarm to remind myself to stop playing… A detail that makes a big difference for me: it can be played offline and doesn’t pull too much battery! Also if it was ever a “pay to play” game, it is not anymore. All you need is patience and thoughtful choices to soon have all the resources you need. Personally I think the game would be a bit boring without limitless fast-forward, so if you enjoy the game play and you only want to pay for one perk, that’s the one I recommend. Overall an excellently designed, well-balanced experience.
Shameless cash grab
There’s ways to include ads in games to monetise or get users to pay to remove the ads. Lazily putting a banner across the top of the screen is not it. Never doubt, this game is engineered to drive you to spend way more than the game will ever nhs worth through micro-transactions.
Good
This games is pretty decent however, the sandbox mode is not really limitless eh? Infinite cash & resources and this game will be magnificent!
Repetitive
Becomes rather boring very quickly
Adverts
I do like the game it does exactly what it’s meant to do :) keep you occupied for long periods of time it’s just a shame to fully enjoy the game you have to pay to remove ads as it unbearable if you don’t :(
Great Time Waster
The game is pretty slow paced but that’s alright because there’s a fast forward feature you can use. When it runs out, in game currency or an add can refill it for free! No micro transactions are required to play the game successfully, and there’s both scenarios that are story based and guided, and a fully open ended sand-box! I’ve “completed” a good handful of towns and still have a decent interest in the game, but it does have fairly limited features and may get boring quickly for some people. Overall, I would recommend this game to anyone who has free time they want to get rid of, and people who enjoy other city building games.
Crossed the line
I was ok with this, the ad’s in the top etc.. as the game was a bit like settlers and a nice pace. I draw the line however when you interrupt my gameplay with an advert which can be skipped by paying premium currency for.
Good
Needs more levels
Too many ads
It is a great game but there are too many ads which is frustrating when you are in the middle of doing things.
My review !
Well , Thank you all the handygames producers for discovering the game townsmen . I enjoy the game a lot but cause’ somewhere this game teaches me about my responsibility. (Well I think I am acting childish) But now I want to give the negative remarks as well if you don’t mind ! Currently townsmen is getting boring day-by-day , just because I completed each and every region , so I would like you to add more levels ( I mean , different regions ) so the players can enjoy playing TOWNSMEN! Yours faithfully, Mildred O’Sullivans
