Simply the Best
I bought my first copy of MotorSport and took it on a school trip in July 1967. The cover photo was Jim Clark preparing to board the Lotus 49 at Zandvoort to practice for the Dutch Grand Prix, taken from the roof of the pits before he went on to score the first victory for the Cosworth DFV. It also covered Gurney/Foyt winning Le Mans and Dan taking the Eagle to a magnificent victory at Spa. Has there ever been a more iconic issue? I still have that magazine, it lit my motor racing fire which still burns. It’s still the most honest and trustworthy periodical today, I wouldn’t be without it.
App works fine when online. Offline not so much
Had downloaded a few magazines for a trip. Went offline, tried to open the magazines but they wouldn't open - despite being marked as successfully downloaded. I also can't delete the downloaded magazines. Clicking on the delete bin does nothing. What a complete mess this app is. Really not impressed. Surely this is basic functionality for a magazine app? Poor experience and I won't be resubscribing.

My only request is to improve offline performance. I’m regularly on the overnight sailing from Hull/Rotterdam and P&O’s at sea Internet service is poor, and so I download the things I wish to read before sailing. Sadly in the case of Motorsport, a ‘downloaded’ magazine is usually missing articles, pages and many images when read offline. Having read the title continuously for ca. 50 years, this issue is not going to cost you a subscriber, but I know it could be improved. Best, JulianJHepburn

Interesting to see to see all previous poor reviews have disappeared. The recent update has still not fixed all issues and has created new problems.
Basics are poor though has good features
Accessing the magazine on an iPad is a frustrating user experience. Initial download is rapid but excludes all images including ads. To actually download the magazine every page must be viewed one at a time. Therefore it typically takes five minutes to download. Very frustrating if you want to download the go offline to read on train or plane. Could do much better with some proper UX thought.

Latest update fails, again - updated
26th May app update seems to have cured the download and read offline problems. Pity it took 2 months to correct a poorly executed update. Though that’s quicker than the last time an update of this app caused the same problem. (Like to think lessons had been learned). I’ll give you 4 stars for content and reserve the fifth due to the poor update rollout. Could do better. Original post 31st March: This is so frustrating. The magazine content is great, but yet again the app has been updated and now I can no longer download issues for offline viewing, even though it detects an active subscription. Can’t even access the ones I saved previously. This seems to be a recurring theme with this app. Each time it’s updated it takes weeks to get it properly sorted. If only the app / program were half as good as the magazine journalism it would be great. But it isn’t.
Awful update
I have similar problems to others in the recent update. Including a couple of issues that have grey squares instead of photos. When I mentioned this to Motor Sport they fobbed me off and said it was not their problem and to contact Apple.
Articles seem to be contracted
Whilst the APP as some superb content some of it seems to have been cut short from what appears in the magazine. I have requested information about this from Motor Sport but nothing as been forthcoming.

I always thought that the mag was the grownups motor racing reading. Over a period of time I think the impact has been diluted by the insertion of articles such as the latest watches most of, if not all I could never afford. I shall not be renewing my subscription and changing to a totally different magazine Classic and Sports Car.
Constant quality writing.
Motor Sport was one of my earliest magazines in the 60s and I’m still reading it. Boddy and Jenks were my pages to turn to and the writers today still keep the high quality of articles.
Frustration….
So you are a Motorsport subscriber and you get an email about some new article or even an old article…. So if you click on the email link it, doesn’t allow you to read the article, or you click on the app…..and the article isn’t there either…so you try to search for the article with the search function and still the article doesn’t appear even if you type in the article title from the email you received. Motorsport is a good magazine and the website has lots of good content and the archive too…..but the app, emails and website obviously do not speak to each other to allow a nice use experience. It is probably quite a simple piece of coding to sort it out so why don’t they do it…..indifference, or just a deliberate attempt to annoy a long term reader and subscriber….
Good content, flakey menu
The content of the articles is first-rate but the menu options, eg to quickly go to a particular page, don't work on the iPad Mini. It makes navigating multi-page documents a real pain.
Average app
This would be much better if there was a My library section, where I could see all the issues I have bought, instead of having to scroll through the all issues section.
Quality Reading
The best motorsport magazine on the planet, always has been and always will be. Informative and interesting, keep up the great work.
Great content, very poor app

Great mag; app not quite there...
Really like the magazine, but the online version frustrates with confusing, counter-intuitive navigation. Difficult to know where you are within the magazine and lacks the flow you get when you read the printed product. Video content a bonus.
Good in some ways, poor in others
Rather than just go for a straight page by page reproduction of the magazine, this app tries to turn it into an interactive experience. This works well in some parts, but not in others. The good - the articles are good to read in their scrolling format. The app has a nice feel to it. - being able to blow some photos up to full screen. - the links to related content elsewhere. - sometimes it's more convenient to read the magazine on my iPad The bad - the prominence given to some of the advertising content - I don't want an interactive experience with an advert but presumably these advertisers pay big bucks and must be humoured. - the absence of the smaller adverts (the interesting ones) - presumably these advertisers don't pay enough to need to be humoured, so the outcome is that this is a shallow edited version of the printed magazine. - the index is so long that it is difficult to find things. This must be the only magazine index that helps you to find an advert! - old editions are just in PDF format rather than interactive. This is a result of a recent change of app provider. Unfortunately these PDFs crash my iPad so I have lost access to them. Someone has put a lot of work into trying to create a different sort of magazine experience but I am left wondering why did they bother? I believe that the app has won awards - maybe the computer geeks love the technical achievement but it's the reader's experience that matters. The absence of some of the content means that this is not a true alternative to the printed edition. I don't want someone to choose which parts of the magazine I will be allowed to see. I get it as part of a subscription bundle but if I had to choose I would take the printed version. This may be the way that magazine apps will go in the future but I think that this will be looked back on as a primitive early attempt.

App fail!
Similar for me. All my old digital magazine have disappeared. If I download them again, they disappear again after coming out of the app, including the latest edition. Please reinstate previous version, this version just doesn’t work.

Is there a point to this when currently the app talks of the Members Meeting and what will be happening when it was cancelled some days ago? Reviewing subscription wile chaos continues as app clearly out of date.
Not working
Downloaded the update that allows subscriptions, subscribed for a year for 75 bucks (gulp), and still see only the free issue that I downloaded weeks ago with the first version of the app. I believe there should be a new issue available in the store section, but nothing's showing up, I got no confirmation that my subscription was even received, and there are no help menus or settings menus that show my account or subscription information. Compared to the other magazine apps out there, this one needs some pretty significant work. OK, AFTER DELETING AND REINSTALLING THE APP I WAS ABLE TO ACCESS THE LATEST EDITION, SO I'M REVISING TO THREE STARS. LOVE THE MAGAZINE, BUT STILL STAND BY THE FACT THAT THE APP ITSELF NEEDS SOME POLISH. THANKS FOR GOING DIGITAL GUYS!

I see that all stories now require a subscription with a month's free trial. That said I can read motorsports news on other apps for free so reluctantly I have deleted the app.
A wonderful magazine
I have been reading Motor Sport since 1949. A magazine without parallel.
Frustrating viewing
Pausing for a while during reading a magazine causes the app to refresh, send you back to the base page and lose where you were reading.

iPad app doesn’t store downloads
Hi Recently the app has stopped saving magazines that pat I’ve purchased and downloaded. Every time I open the app I have to download the magazine again - not useful on an airplane! This has been like it for about 4 ,months now. It does however remember which magazines I have purchased.
