What people like
- No ads interrupt your reading flow.
- Audio pronunciations help learners a lot.
- Word of the day is really clever.
What they complain about
- Many words are missing from the list.
- The app crashes when you open it.
- Support never actually helps with problems.
Outstanding app
This is a great app to have for the most part is very specific and vast
Too eager
To replace scientific truth with Orwellian nonsense…. Gross
Wher is blossom?
Nice app, but I thought it would have games like blossom that are at m-w online
Missing words
Why are some words not included in this dictionary?
Just Says Error Now. Please Fix
I cannot search anything in this dictionary anymore. Every time I enter any word into the search field, I simply get the message “Error.” I’m putting in established and accepted words. Very odd. I’m using this application on an iPhone 13 Pro Max if that helps to diagnose the issue at all for the developer. I hope the developer will please look into this problem with the program and please release an update that hopefully fixes the issue. Thank you if so, thank you for the hard work and time no doubt put into this app and God bless.
Focused On Its Purpose
I so appreciate the absence of advertising that interrupts and distracts from trains of thought.
They don’t update it with new words
The web version has many words not contained in this allegedly “premium” version. E.g. absquatulate
What is Dictionary Plus
I just don’t see the new bells and whistles. What does it do the other app can’t do? Both apps stop the Ads but what does the plus mean? Help me understand…..
Weak definitions
I really messed up purchasing this. Merriam-Webster is pretty surface level compared to the OED. But beyond the shallow definitions, the app doesn’t seem formatted for the larger iPhones and the UI is surprisingly sparse (not in a good way). Also, there’s no search history or an ability to download anything. These are basic features I’ve seen in nearly every other dictionary app. I feel like a sucker having paid $10 for this. Sigh.
Okay in a quiet area
Trying to use app when at work to try And find out how to spell something by saying the word using the microphone feature in noisy area or even in mild noisy area microphone can not pick up what I am saying. I can use normal txt feature using microphone iPhone picks up just fine. Same microphone on the phone. App needs little better microphone software added to it.
Helpful & educational
Use for research and learning new words.
Why
Why do I need to log into a dictionary app I paid for?
Good but could have more features
You can’t view a list words without looking them up first. I wish I could view words the way you could in a physical dictionary. The search function only works if you spell the word correctly so it can be hard to find a word you can’t quite spell exactly. It does have a thesaurus feature which is nice. And it has weekly word games included. Overall worth a purchase if you use a dictionary often while traveling.
14.3版本经常秒退
打开没一会，滑动界面就直接秒退
Useful, but lacking
I’ve been using this app for a while and it’s handy, but it is not comprehensive. It’s missing many words that are included at merriam-webster.com. Supposedly the app receives updates to the wordlist, but it’s not clear what determines which words are included or not. I get that it’s one-time fee model which means you won’t always have the latest words, but some words have been around long enough they should’ve been included from the onset.
Can’t live without it
Always useful!
Can’t search
Just updated the app and now when I try to search for a word, all I get is “error”
What a Winner
My go-to dictionary has been Merriam -Webster Dictionary for several years. In addition to definitions, each entry offers synonyms, antonyms, and a pronunciation.
能不能解决一下闪退问题
能不能，可不可以，解决一下闪退问题？
Good but bad widget
Good dictionary. But a bad widget design. Their earlier widget was clean. This one is clunky. Could you do something about this?
good app good dictionary
Used once and never tried anything else since
Instant crashes once logged in
After logging into the account, the app instantly crashes.
Widget with white frame
Not a fan of the new thick white frame around the widget, looks chunky and distracting. Why fix something that isn’t broken!
As a reference for simple English to extended English
Better use for non-English speakers. Generally, used for fresh English speaker. Please increase more content on life basics, live necessary, or hardship people’s need for give some simple guidelines that would be more self-helpful for self educated ones, such as food notices or social suggestions between professional ones that can reduce bad interaction with others.
PLEASE UPDATE THE DICTIONARY
Please update this dictionary to work on iphone 12/12 PRO and IOS 14.
Love this app!!
I use Merriam-Webster app everyday and have learned so many words and their spelling. I love “word of the day”.
Lousy download
DON’T BUY. I purchased the app and registered it….it only gave me the free version. You can’t get the app to reflect the purchase. No human support only a lame letter they are real busy and useless articles to help. No where to get a refund or at least fix the problem!
Using the dictionary while reading fiction and non-fiction
The only way the dictionary must be improved is to define more words, especially words used by writing in English in North and South Asia.
Disappointed
Why have you removed the "choose the right synonym" paragraphs? They were the best thing about Merriam Webster. And the reason I bought the app.
Dictionary review
First time trying it so we will have to practice
No Google
You are my ‘go to’ in writing a precise message that inspires me and hopefully the reader.
Displays advert popups
This app circumvents my iOS settings not to display advert popups.
Review
The app is very convenient to use when I am reading on my iPad. I have the app on my iPad and iPhone also.
Not as good as before
The recent update has resulted in significant slowdown of accompanying audio file.
It’s just OK
Needs updating. Many words not in dictionary.
Who Knew?
As a lover of language (and teacher) I think there is no better English dictionary app than Merriam-Webster Dictionary+. I appreciate the clear listing of definitions, audio pronunciations (especially valuable for English language learners) and, my personal favorite, Word of the Day, which not only provides new insights into language that I may or may not be familiar with, but does so with clever, well-wrought commentary. Bravo!
Stop changing word definitions
Don’t want to use this dictionary anymore since you now routinely change the definitions of words.
OK
Dictionary is ok, Merriam-Webster just need to make some definitions easier since learner’s isn’t available on mobile
No wildcard search?
Why?
Great dictionary but…
Would like an UI option for the search bar and mic buttons to be nearer the bottom of the screen so I don’t have to stretch my thumbs.
Excellent
Use it ALL the time
App freezes
App doesn't work anymore. Freezes now on opening logo, which has the search box superimposed on it. Using an iPhone 6.
Please bring Dark mode
Would love to have a Dark mode
I hate new design
I paid for downloading it just because i like the previous design,it's totally different from the free version and other dictionaries. But now it's gonna become normal,i start regretting paid for this.Hope you can revert it to previous design.
Ok
Pretty cool but, I know that I can find better easily. It’s like 60%. Just pass.
Dictionaries are for readers
I love to read real, physical books. When I come upon a word whose definition I do not know, I learn firsthand what that word means, and often how it is used in different contexts.
Failed to load properly
Stop to respond after iOS 13.1.1 update Reinstall doesn’t help
Some words are missing
Some of the words like SOMNILOQUY is not in the dictionary. Please get it updated
Needs to be updated...
...to support iPhone 6 screen sizes. It just doesn't look right at all. Updating it for Apple Watch but forgetting about the app itself is a missed opportunity.
Esskay
Great app !!👍
