for the people
perhaps one of the few apps and services that were made for the people. it's free, fun (all the extra little facts and mini word puzzles), and to the point. seriously appreciate things like this in a world where every company is always trying to milk your time and money
Garbage Bc Of Ads
I’ve used this app for the past 10 years and it has always delivered me info quickly. Now, it’s just a garbage app taken over by advertisements where you have to search for a tiny X somewhere on the screen to get out of it. I’ve had enough. 10 year user, GONE.
Best dictionary!!
I have used this dictionary for many, many years and I love it! This is the only free dictionary that has it all! I use mine when I read my Bible or for just learning how to pronounce a word.
Pro version missing grammar quiz
It’s been a no- show for about a month. I keep the app updated.
Games!
Great app. I love the daily games, but the mismatch often malfunctions. Giving a score that should be perfect but becomes 3 of of 5. Maybe the squares are too narrow?
Very good app
This is my first time of using the app and it’s perfect
SORRY
Too much junk to try to sort through to find the dictionary. Never did find the dictionary.
Love the ability to add words and idioms to flashcards which aids in quick revision.
Stripped them of a star because I wish there were an option to change the colour of the widget to match our theme. Right now the default is blue and it looks so hideous on my black-purple neon-themed screen. Besides that, this app is a ten on ten. And there’s another bug. Whenever I type something into the search bar, the previous word in my search history automatically fills the search bar. So I must delete it and retype my search term every time.
Ads are awful
Has some bugs and the ads choice is disgraceful. Dictionary works fine except when popups cause delays.
Great until…
This app was great until a very inappropriate add showed up. So I deleted it. If you get this app, plan on some inappropriate adds at some point. Not recommended for kids.
pretty good
I like the layout is still like the website so its easy to use. How they have extra word problems and articles us also very good. Plus the ads they do have arent overly the top obnoxious.
scam
paid for ad-free version, but still get ads—why should i pay for the pro version when i’ll probably be scammed again
Dictionary
It is great to learn new words but the bad thing is ads but it is still awesome to download you can level up your brain level to advance and that’s why it’s amazing to download
Porny ads
I’ve recommended this dictionary to my students—but no longer. Porn ads are a reason to boycott anything, but especially a dictionary.
Great but annoying ads
Great dictionary! However, lengthy ads and their intrusive timing have become incredibly frustrating that I am forced to cut back on my usage.
Games
It’s everything I wanted it to be and it has cool games to learn from! And I’m 58 years old.
Political
I noticed that the examples of use are political
FEATURE REQUEST
1. List of Words and Idioms, alphabetically to enable browsing at will like book dictionary. 2. Sepia mode. 3. iOS themed icon and search bar to look even default-like.
Restore ad-free purchase failure
It won’t allow restore my ad-free purchase, all my flash cards are lost when I changed my phone.
Excellent, and flawed
Its functionality as a dictionary and thesaurus would be hard to surpass. However, they also allow scummy scamware ads that pretend to be system messages from my phone. Ultimately, I decided that I’m more discriminating than that. Why would I lend my phone to such a vendor? So I deleted this app.
Helpful app
Excellent application to look for the meanings of unknown words. I’ve using it for many years already and it’s been very helpful. 100% percent recommended!
Blocked
I use this app very little and today got a response that I was blocked for a violation—I have not violated anything……I have left my feedback for them but have not received a response, glitch in their system? I see others having the same issue
Retyping the first word again
Why does the letter which i type everytime gets deleted by itself and i have to type the same letter again to searh for it’s meaning? This happens evertime when i open the app and type the first word to search for..kindly sovle this issue..it’s been like happening forever!
Worked well for a while
I’ve been a user for several years. For some reason dictionary results are not in English. I cannot find a way to switch to English. No customer service available.
Ads on what seems to be just about every 3rd word
When you finally get to lookup a word it’s a pretty decent app. Getting to the point of being able to input a word , not so decent ….Ads galore being bad enough , but I can’t really complain it’s free. then ad into the equation that more than half the ads are some sort of time based ad page . You have to stare at this weird ad for anywhere from around 10 seconds to a half minute or more before a micro x will pop up in a random corner , or a button to move the process along so you can get to the x. Which ok , still, it’s free. But… then ad in that about half of these ads don’t make a clear way to end the ad .unless of course you’re willing to go where the ad wants you to to purchase something . Then every now and then I get what I hope is an ad , that pops up making it look like the dictionary app is suddenly closed ( no longer see dictionary screen and can see my Home Screen in the background )asking permission to some setting(s) within my phone , followed by a big apple alert screen saying my phones been infected with 120 viruses! I just left the app to see if there was something here explaining what’s up . Now if I swipe up I can see the dictionary app is on a“protect 360 pro” app page that looks like I’m here in the App Store but still labeled as the dictionary app.so hopefully it was just an app ad for “protect 360 pro”that uses extreme fear tactics .?.? But wtf, I have older relatives who’d definitely be downloading something after seeing what I just did out of that extreme fear ! Edit: thank you for responding . I was in a small state of shock when i was led to believe my phone was “infected by 120 virus’s” . Finally figuring out it was just a hard sell ad was a mix of relief ,and then anger(at the advertisers). I probably should’ve cooled down a lil more before reviewing . Ads aside the dictionary is great once you get to it .. again being a free app i would’ve never complained over a 30 second ad every other / few lookups . But those scam ads should be illegal .ive removed some of my comments and upgraded my rating a bit . The only negative i can say is those trap you on a screen ads that come up consistently and lately the new ones that basically are like phishing scams ..i will definitely look for the report ad option next time ,thanks for the heads up . 3 stars is because no half stars (solid 3.5 overall experience that would be 5 without scary ads lol) ..i dont use dictionary all that often, but, if this changes in the future and the threat ads get removed i will update again accordingly.
Gnxbertholl
One of the most comprehensive dictionaries I’ve used.
Bookmarks?
I had a lot of bookmarks and now I don't. Did I log into the wrong account when you forced logged me out after many years or did you stop supporting them?
Nice Application
Its a really good application to learn about words and practice them.
Dictionary?
Why is this called a dictionary? I asked for a simple definition and list of the word I sought with a nation after the word! Then a national flag in a column to the right. How is that a definition? All the notification choices that came before I even got that far scared me which leaves me with one choice, abandoning this bizarre app for less demanding and more productive, simple to use Dictionary’s.
Ridiculous reliance on decades-old Soviet reference.
Just why?
Favorite dictionary app
I've been using this particular dictionary app for a few years as of the time of this review. It's one of my favorite apps of its kind.
Premium app no longer supported, have to downgrade to free ad-based app
Not too happy with the latest events. I purchased the premium app years ago to avoid ads. Now they said it’s “not supported”. Odd. However the free version is supported- but you need to be bombarded with ads. :/ Might as well go back to using Google to look up words… I don’t want to be subjected to ads in my face always.
Helpful for a learner
The spanning of prepositional phrases is obviously the USP of the dictionary. The enumeration of the grammatical aspect and collocative explanations would make it Five Star.
Add free upgrade function is not working
Add free upgrade hasn’t been moved to the new version and cannot be restored. Disappointing.
web version is better!
app is harder to use, web version is easier. where’s ‘word finder’ on the app? 😕
Amazing!
I think this app is great! very straightforward, not hard to use and not very confusing. Its helped me wonders and it’s definitely worth trying if your the type of person who likes upping their vocabulary but also making sure what your saying doesn’t sound forced or wrong. I find this app a huge help especially when im writing or reading and need to figure out a word quickly without searching for too long or getting distracted, and i think others would very much enjoy this app as well!!!
Makes you buy the app twice
Scam and they raised the price. Money grabbers. And the commercials and pop ups are the worst there is-- make the app unusable. Garbage.
Loving it !!!
Just started using this. Everything seems good so far. Will update after using it for some time. Thanks!!
Was a brilliant App now no longer working
I have been using this for three now and up until the past few weeks it has been an exceptional resource. Unfortunately for no reason I can fathom it no longer enables me to activate a search; the adverts however on the bottom window seem to change each time I activate the App. Such a pity, hence the low rating.
Great but…
I already bought the pro version in-app. It still has buttons to get the pro version, which is very confusing. Also, the search bar needs to be at the bottom. It is neither ergonomic nor practical to have it at the top unless you hold your phone in a very unconventional way. Other than that, I love the app. I have been using it for years now. But I noticed that I am using it less and less frequently as it is hard to type things with the bar being being on top.
Best Dictionary App
This app is fun to just search for new words for your vocabulary, to use for school because it’s super convenient, to use for work if your a writer and need to broaden your vocabulary, for children and teens on the go…right in the palm of your hand’s, on your laptop or iPad this dictionary app is easy to use and super convenient !!!
Misinformation
AD banner before a definition stated a “CNN” newsflash, not the CDC, by “Dr. Gupta” which answers with an infomercial about the cause of Alzheimer’s. This ad claims it answers the cause of the Alzheimer’ disease which is a “study”with no citing of either who or when, propagated by a nefarious “big Pharma” with no label of which pharmaceutical lab, by Dr . Gupta who is not a geriatric neurosurgeon. Please give me Dr. Fauci, a virologist, a public health professional, from Columbia Med Scool, and a Catholic who said he believed in service rather than this RFK, jr. food ad.
Stopped working
app was working just fine and suddenly it has started to crash. And I cannot re-install as I would loose my bookmarks and flash cards. please help!
‘Define’ doesn’t work
The define feature doesn’t work at all if you’re offline. Yes, I have already downloaded offline dictionary and it doesn’t work when you tap define from other apps including Files.

Pro Purchase Not Restored
I already paid for the Pro version as a one-time purchase. After updating to the new app, my Pro access is gone and I’m being asked to pay again. This is not acceptable. Please restore my purchase.
Kicked me out!
Tried it and it said my ISP is permanently blocked because I use a VPN!
Useful app to some extent
Useful app to some extent
Disappointed
Slow with lot of vulgar ads and disturbances.
Awesome
It is very useful app
