I first downloaded this app when we were planning our last house. Paid for the download to share with our builder and even though I was just winging it, he was impressed. Since then I have used it mostly just when planning a room layout or playing around (mostly playing around). I noticed that some of the items I have in older floor plans no longer exist, at least in the free version, like the deck base. I am still able to copy those spaces to other floors so I’m good.
2 free designs - scam
I forgot why I'd not used Magicplan for a while. I reset my password and found I had a few designs still saved. So I opened a couple of them in 'read-only' format, mindful that I only had 2 free edits available to me and each design that I opened lost me one free credit until I had none! What a nonesense.
Free version is okay being that it’s free.
They are out of their mind to ask for $12.99/mo for this app. Free version is okay but I would never pay for more than $4.99/mo for the basic “Sketch” version.

Eazy, quiqly, covering what you need
Paid subscription, but I cannot access my account — and support is inaccessible
I purchased a paid magicplan subscription, but I have been unable to access my account. I have requested a password reset repeatedly, but the reset email never arrives. I checked my inbox, spam and junk folders and tried multiple times over more than a full day. I then contacted magicplan support. Their AI support agent acknowledged that the issue requires investigation by a human Support team and instructed me to click “Escalate to Support.” The problem? The escalation link leads to a 404 – Page Not Found page. I reported the broken link, and the AI support agent responded by asking me to click the same “Escalate to Support” button again. I did — and it still leads to the same 404 error. So at this point: * I have paid for a subscription I cannot use. * The password-reset system is not working for my account. * The escalation link to human support is broken. * I have spent more than a full day trying to resolve the issue. * I am still dealing with an AI support bot instead of a human who can actually restore access to my paid account. This is extremely disappointing for a paid professional service. I am happy to update this review if magicplan provides actual human support, restores access to my account, and addresses the subscription time I have lost. Until then, I cannot recommend paying for this service.
Needs abilities
It’s great for small builds but very time consuming for big builds. Does not have a way to copy and paste multiple rooms at once. You can still copy individual rooms but then you have to move each room. P.S. if you add a tool to copy and paste multiple rooms make it where you can rotate and flip them like you can individually. Also make them able to move as a group.
MagicPlan Review (Professional Surveyor Perspective)
I use MagicPlan professionally to create floor plans for residential properties, including large luxury homes. Unfortunately, after extensive use, I can no longer rely on the software for larger or more complex projects. Major Issues 1. No Autosave During Active Scanning This is my biggest complaint. While actively scanning a property, there is no automatic save feature. If the app freezes or your phone dies, you can lose a significant amount of work. For professional field work, this is an enormous risk. 2. No Way to Monitor Scan Size The app appears to become unreliable on very large homes (around 2,000+ sq ft of active scanning), but it provides no indication of how much has been scanned while you’re working. Because of this: * You don’t know when you’re approaching the limit. * You can’t proactively save your work. * You simply continue scanning until the app eventually freezes or becomes unstable. A live square footage counter or memory usage indicator would solve much of this problem. 3. You Can’t Safely Pause to Save Because the scan is continuous, there is no practical way to stop and verify your progress without interrupting the workflow. You’re essentially forced to keep going and hope the app doesn’t fail before you’re finished. 4. Rooms and Walls Disappear After Saving This is the most frustrating bug I’ve encountered. During the scan, everything appears correctly in the preview. However, after saving the project, entire rooms or walls can disappear. This means: * The preview cannot be trusted. * The saved project is different from what was verified. * You may not discover missing rooms until much later. For professional work, this is unacceptable. 5. Curved/Round Rooms Are Not Reliable The software struggles with circular or curved rooms, especially those with multiple windows. Even after carefully measuring these spaces, the saved room often does not preserve the correct shape. 6. Large Projects Are Risky I recently surveyed a 6,500 sq ft home. Because my phone battery died during the survey and the app had not automatically saved my progress, critical portions of the project—including the entry and staircase—were lost. That forced me to contact my client about returning to remeasure areas that had already been completed. 7. Flashlight Limitation While scanning, I cannot activate my phone’s flashlight. This becomes a real issue in: * Dark closets * Stairwells * Utility rooms * Poorly lit areas Professional survey software should not prevent access to such a basic phone function. Customer Support I reported multiple issues to support in detail. Unfortunately, I did not receive meaningful solutions or acknowledgement of the problems. That was especially disappointing considering these issues directly affect paid client work. Final Thoughts MagicPlan has a lot of potential, and when it works it can be very efficient. However, reliability is everything for professionals. When software can: * Lose work because there is no autosave, * Remove rooms after saving, * Struggle with complex geometry, * Become unreliable on large homes, it becomes difficult to trust on important client projects. I hope these issues are addressed because the underlying concept is excellent. Until then, I’ll be looking for more reliable alternatives for professional residential surveys.

My second free attempt ended up being a blank because I didnt have clear direction on how to get to the scanning process.

Versatile
Magicplan works great as an initial design tool. If there were more items in the library it would be perfect. Especially items related to Australian design.
Such a disappointment
I remember trying this app years ago and thinking that the user interface was completely inscrutable. I thought I’d give it another try and, unfortunately, it remains so. The Help videos are a joke. This use case for Lidar is so powerful, but unfortunately Magicplan makes its magic a very dark art, indeed.

Lost Work
Have had the app for a couple years. Buying a house so added the plan to help visualize furniture. Updated app and lost everything
Good, but subscription model is not right.
Feature wise this app ticked all the boxes. Within three hours of my time, going into a house cold, I had a somewhat accurate floor plan, and notes on what needs doing to the house along with photos, and this all exported to a PDF I can provide to a contractor. As a DIY dad, I want to contribute financially to the developers to say thanks for the time they saved me, but I will not be signing up to a $60 monthly subscription for what will be a single project. I know they need to pay for servers and offsite backups, so if I were using this professionally I would not think too much as it is a great time saver. It took a bit to work out how to tweak the plans. In particular separating out an open plan room into kitchen vs living room was hard. I needed to do this due to different flooring types. The report with photos and notes had been fantastic. I would like to have the ability to call out separate tasks for different contractors.
Complicated on an iPad
Trying to do a room within a building is not for the faint of heart. Goo be easier.
It’s not intuitive and it’s expensive for what you get.
I like some stuff about this program but there are a few things that I don’t like. It’s not intuitive and trying to do simple things takes forever to learn. (I used to use autocad for work.) One thing that is really annoying is it seems set up for the USA. Lots of objects are missing. There is no gas boiler. The kitchen cabinets and plumbing / appliances objects need expanding.

This app sucks. Was difficult to set up and use. They also want your street address and access to about everything on your phone. I’m not interested in giving the world access to my home interior.
Subscription options poor
Loved the app, used it for helping me design and visualise our first renovation year and years ago. We are now moving on to our second renovation and hopefully long term home and I’d planned to use magic plan again. However, I’m not a business, I don’t need 10 projects, but there’s no option for a one off payment to build just one more plan. Think that’s really disappointing and will have to find another app
Sadly didn’t deliver
Such a great concept and in my trail project it worked fine. But when on site abroad where us was critical it kept crashing on wifi and 5g so a total bust and caused allot of issue with project. Support were little or no help.

Just wanted to import a photo of my floor plan but the ui is so confusing I couldn’t work it out. I installed. Edit: I worked it out but the app needs to be easier to use and less ugly
A game changer
It doesn’t get much better than this app. I’m a real estate investor and everytime I get a new project it goes straight into magic plan and I draw a floorplan and start working it from there. This app has been instrumental in my success of add on additions / redesigning and just seeing my houses come alive. I would give it 10stars if I could. And I’m only using the free version.
Wildly frustrating
While the LiDAR and scanning functionality of this app are quite good, the rest of the software feels lack luster, confining, and unfinished. Half of the time I can’t even get the project to populate on my desk top, trying to rework errors in the scan itself was impossible in some scenarios, export to sketch up was also not supported for me. Spent hours scanning an apartment complex I own just to have to go back and do the whole thing manually on sketch up.
Amazing app! However…
I love using this app. It’s so easy to use and the basic pack has most objects available so it gives you a good taste of the features. However, I think a few things could be added/improved. I think that multiple styles of furniture should be added as well as more furniture and decorations. Colour options for everything should be added in too. I also think the ability to move objects while viewing the room in 3D should be an option.
It’s good at first but …
I’m using this app for over a year as an interior deaigner, it was good at first but the subscription fee is too high compare with what I can have: limited object, the dimensions are not so correct sometime, the app has bug in which sometime when you copied the rooms, walls were disappearing and all the objects jumped to other places. It’s really annoying! With the fee, I would expect better quality and objects. Moving to a better app now! If you only use this app for personal uses, it’s ok but for business, it’s not!
Im confused
It’s seems like it’s a good app, but a pop up ends up blocking my view so I am unable to use it after five seconds.
Great Service
As a contractor this service makes estimating a breeze. My only concern is that I confused the $250 monthly fee for an annual fee. Not sure how I missed that detail but otherwise I am very happy with the application.

After use 1 year. I say that it. After i spend 20 min and scan house. This app didn’t save and didn’t create plans.

This is the best floor planning/surveying app so far!
Terrible Support
Having used the plan commercially for a number of months I can say with honesty that 80% of the time you’ll create good plans with self manageable edits. However for the other 20% of the time when support is required, when time is ticking and the plan is urgent you’ll become very anxious with the lack of phone support, the speed at which an enquiry is worked and the days it will take them to fix simple issues. It’s a shame to be writing this review for an app that could be amazing. I’m sure in time it will improve.
Land surveys
When drawing a land survey, there should be the option to manually type boundary dimensions and angles using textfields. Moreover, angles should have the option for using cardinal headings, and being able to lock boundaries and corners. I would love to see Magicplan available in the Mac App Store and for Intel Mac’s.

Not intuitive at all
I've installed then uninstalled this app several time over the last few years, ea h time forgetting how frustratingly unintuitive it is. You can't just add walls and then piece them together in a freehand manner so unless you take the time to get familiar with the behavior the developers want you to follow, you'll just end up angry and frustrated. Definitely not for me.

App was decent enough, but who wants to pay outrageous subscription prices? $900 a year, for an iPhone app? Who do these people think they are?! There is no app that is worth that to me. I’ve used a lot of them. I am a carpenter/ property manager.

Liked it for a quick mock-up but lacks on detail
Spent some time working through some ideas here for some renovations. When it comes to custom ideas some adjustable items just don't render. Items appeared in the right place for the floor plan but 3D render they appeared in the middle of a joined room.

Really ?
Tried the free use version.. took loads of measurements, planned the room out. Spent a few hours adding items n customising measurements. Saved plan. Couldn’t share, so signed up and it blanks everything with zero saved plans. Great stuff
Was great.. until now
Was using the free mode to the best of my ability. Now the all of the objects have disappeared, and in 3D mode my rooms are all closed off from each other and it won’t let me remove any walls. Needs errors corrected.
