No iPad version
It’s unfortunate that there is not a version for iPads. Very awkward to rotate my iPad to read the app. So I didn’t renew my subscription. Will renew when iPad version available.
Confused
I am simply trying to access to the electronic edition of the Sun - the one that looks like the print edition. I am being re-directed to a different digital version. I cannot figure out how to correct this. Why make it so complicated?
Still awful
IOS 15. Does not work. How come all the others do work. How long before an update? Impossible to contact. Canceled my subscription. Well an update happened, worse, useless app. Buy another newspaper, these people do not care. Canceled my subscription.
Vancouver Sun news app
Use many news apps. The content is great but this app is unnecessarily difficult to use. Poorer compared to others. Review ease of use of your competitor’s news apps and please adapt.
Some good journalism but it is ruined by the app
A major city such as Vancouver needs a serious newspaper, and many would support it if it had a good app. There are still some good journalists at the Sun who report on subjects in depth. However the app is slow and you have to wait for each section to load, making it too painful to browse through the paper each day for interesting articles. It is sad to see the paper failing for such simple to fix reasons.
If there there was a zero star rating that’s what it deserves
I have reinstalled this app several times and after one use it stalls and I get a blank. I pay for the subscription and have for years but when I contact the Sun I receive an email thanking me but they are busy. Weeks later I get another email saying they are working on it. Hah. Lousy service VS!
What a rude disappointment!
This morning when I went to download my Sun newspaper, I learned I had to download a new app! I like the old format better. Today’s news that downloaded with my new app is all days to weeks old. I don’t want to choose which news streams I might like. While I am not interested in sports and often sped right through that section in my newspaper, let me choose page by page, not by checking off boxes. This app is a loser and if it isn’t replaced fast the Sun will lose me as a reader. I have been reading the Vancouver Sun for 55 years but maybe seeking other sources in the immediate future unless this app is replaced. One star is about 9 too many. I am not impressed and sad to be losing my favourite and very talented journalists.

Why does this app exist?
I subscribe to and read several newspapers online including The Globe and Mail, New York Times and The Guardian. This app is by the worst interface. It is unfathomably slow to load. The content doesn’t seem to get updated more than once or twice a day. Breaking news is best found elsewhere. Overall, this seems like relic from about 10-15 years ago. If only the Globe had better Vancouver area coverage.
“Share to” no longer working
On iPad and iPhone, “Share to” has not been working for a few weeks.

What a mess
Where did my paper go?I know how to read a paper, not this jumble. This is something I don’t need or want.
Doesn’t allow you to select and look up words
Unacceptable for the newspaper of a multicultural city. I can't select a word to look it up in the dictionary. Maybe they’re trying to prevent copying of their content, as if preventing selection of text will stop the few who will do that, while causing all the normal users to suffer. For me it's the dictionary lookups, for some it'll be the Speak selection feature, for others it will be the Translate feature, and for many it will be the upcoming Apple Intelligence summarize feature. Nope, you can't use any of those features with this app.
App keeps freezing
Unfortunately the iOS app freezes after a few days requiring a blunt force fix of an app instance delete and the a new download to restore the app (temporarily)

Subscription still requires advertisements to load
Even though you pay for a subscription, if you have an add blocker on your network it won’t recognize the subscription. You have to close the app, disconnect from wifi so it just uses cell data, and then re-open the app for advertisements to load. You can enable wifi again after that, Might last a day or 2 before you have to go through it again.
Loads slowly or not at all.
The top stories loads somewhat slowly. The next sections takes minutes to load each one. The later sections never load. You’re constantly asked to reenter your password. Honestly, I’m considering not te-subscribing, because the app is unusable.
An app only a mother could love
This app is very functional, does everything you'd expect it to do, I particularly like how it dims articles you've read. Functionally its faultless, but it's just so god damn ugly. I feel dirty looking at it. It's like 1996 geocities website ugly. The drop shadows, the bevels, the gradient filled content area, the Microsoft Word corporate bullet point icons. It's embarrassingly bad, and you should feel bad. Keep the functionality as is, but redo pretty much every visual element on screen. Plain white with blue text like your website would be better than this monstrosity. For this I give you 3 stars, and may God have mercy on your soul.

App is unpleasant to use
I subscribe because I believe in supporting my local newspaper. However, the app has a horrible way of forcing ads even on paying users and faking clicks on ads. I have never seen anything so bad with other apps. Other papers are building solid digital subscriber support, but this seems designed to do the opposite!
So slow
It takes forever to load on my 3rd gen itouch. Otherwise fine for keeping up to date on local news.
Lacks the most basic device interoperability
If I like to read articles in portrait mode on an iPad, the app should rotate to this orientation. Really basic user experience overlooked. Ads incessantly violate your eyes as you attempt to read an article.
Article sharing freezes app
The app now freezes when the share button is pushed instead of showing a useless grey article with all the icons missing. They really need to do more testing before pushing out releases. At least the in app email feedback system works again in this version.
Way too slow
I go to other apps for news now. The new van app is cumbersome and slow and takes too long to load up. It need a lot of work. I will be back when it’s better….

I like the app but I find it crashes on regular basis ... It needs a fix

Poorly written, lacking even the most fundamental features such pull to reload.

So either download the app and pay a subscription OR just go to Vancouver Sun on your internet browser and read everything for free. Great work!
What a mess! Why the change? Makes no sense
This is an absolutely horrible app. The old app was great. The new app is absolute garbage.
