Worth it

Absolutely worth it. Takes a bit to figure out where all the buttons are for adjusting the rate of cards/days or hours and whatnot, but once you've got the hang of it, the app is so excellent. Great way to support the developers and actually study on the go whenever you want to

Not Beginner Friendly

My experience with open-source isn't negligible, so I feel a little annoyed about this app's presentation. Flash-card nomenclature must be something else, because just trying to sort the cards in your deck is a bizarre and not entirely successful endeavour, which always sucks. Seems like a little 'quick-start' guide might bring in a lot of backers.

Love Anki

Anki is probably the best program you can use for learning a language. I initially was hesitant to buy the app bc of the price, but it was definitely worth it to be able to study when I’m not at home, and after using the free desktop version for years it was nice to support the developers. My only issues with the app are I wish it would auto-sync when you open the app (and would be nice for it to auto-sync when you exit out of a deck), but remembering to click the sync button before and after every session isn’t a huge deal. I also wish you could change a deck’s settings from the app, but that’s also not a huge problem.

★★★★☆ Canada · v25.09 · 7 Mar 2026

Neato!

The app honestly is great, it’s good for anyone who is taking content heavy courses and can’t spend 5 hours a day reviewing every single flashcard and instead offers an algorithm that gives you back the cards you are weak in rather than wasting time just reviewing cards to already know. Also just a reminder, if you can’t pay for it, just use the website, stop complaining when there’s literally a free alternative. This app has consistently helped my memory. Sure, the UI seems a bit old, but I feel like that’s a bit irrelevant considering the more simple and bare bone your UI is, the better retention you have to the actual flashcards. My only complaint is that many features on the desktop version aren’t on the app, such as cloze card creation or preferences to import things like anking.

It wasn’t really obvious that not only do you have to download the Anki mobile you also have to download the desktop app to get shared decks. This is a pain and it should’ve been clear that that was required in my opinion.

Not sure why other people are complaining.

This app works just as described. It syncs with the website. Syncs across my iPad and iPhone. I’m happy to support the developer as he’s already given it for free on Windows and MacOS as well as Android. I think if people are having problems it could be an end user issue and not the app itself.

Apple version doesn’t work

I fell in love with the (free!) android version, which allows pen deck creation, easy downloads from other decks shared online. ★★★☆☆ United States · v25.09 · 27 Jul 2026

Not user friendly. Wasted $24.99.

I wanted a simple flashcard app for creating my own multiple-choice study cards. After entering 50 cards, the app only allowed me to study 20 because of its default learning settings. I also found it difficult to locate my decks and change the study limits. This app is probably great for users who want a spaced-repetition system, but if you’re looking for a straightforward flashcard app where you can study your entire deck whenever you want, this wasn’t a good fit.”

good way to support developers

New users should first spend time playing with the free desktop app, as using this successfully requires buying into a new philosophy on how to memorize material. But for those who are bought into the Anki method, buying this app is a great way to support the developers. Useful for language learning and any kind of memorization of a large number of facts.

Great took, terrible app for a ridiculous price

We can all agree how great Anki is for learning a language. But to charge £25 for an app that’s barely fit for purpose is insane. What do you mean I can’t get notifications when reviews are due? There’s not even a widget. I’ve read the creator’s reasoning for charging so much for the app but it makes no sense. This app needs an update if you want to justify the cost.

Attention developers

Could you guys please update the app to allow cards to disappear completely without only hitting one day. I would really like for the cards to disappear when I hit the one minute or 10 minute button. If I have a small deck, it just continuously cycles through the cards regardless of if I hit one minute or 10 minutes, they’re still there in my deck, and I still instantly see them. It would be really nice if they completely cleared out of the deck, even for that small amount of time. It’d be nice to see the congratulations you cleared your deck and then the cards come back after 10 minutes or one minute. It could be a setting that you can turn on and off for people that may or may not want it. If we can do that, I’ll change my review to five stars. Thanks:)

Not for dummies!!

I will admit yes i am dumb probably very dumb, but all i wanted to do was make flashcards and you know thought this would be like quizlet just you pay for it once instead of paying for a subscription, which is one think i will say yes get it for the one time purchase, but also know what your doing when you get this app. I wanted to make flashcards and review them like regular flashcards. nothing more nothing less, just repeating the flashcards ovwr and over. until it said “Congratulations! You have finished this deck for now. If you wish to study outside of the regular schedule, you can use the ⁨custom study⁩ feature”. i didn’t know they give you a limit on you only being able to review in one day, and everytime i wanted to review them again it wouldn’t let me for some odd reason. yes i know you can make custom decks but i just wanted that one i didnt want to make more decks for no reason!! i tried googling it but the stupid ai bot wasnt any help since thats all you get now days is ai bots! but not only that this app has so many gadgets its so hard to find what you want to do with them!! half the time it doesnt even follow through with the command you wish the cards would follow. Im not sure but like i said im probably really dumb and should just stuck to regular flashcards because this app is nowhere near that!!!

★★★★☆ United Kingdom · v25.02.2 · 27 Apr 2025

Excellent App

I’ve had this app for quite a few years now and it’s something that I continually come back to when trying to learn something new. It syncs across devices with ease and the fact I have access to my Flashcards on my phone means I can study wherever and whenever I want for long/short periods of time. This app has so many different features and options (of which I only use about 5% of) and it will definitely seem intimidating when you first try to use it but as long as you keep it simple in the beginning you will eventually find what works best for you. I only didn’t give it a 5* because of its very complicated settings and options but there’s plenty of YouTube videos out there for tips and advice. Pro tip: Get ChatGPT to make you Flashcards for your subject of choice (learning Spanish currently for me) in a format that can be imported to Anki (txt file seems to work well) to save many hours of manually creating them. This is well worth the money and I would recommend it to anyone.

Needs UI improvements

I'm more than happy to pay the sticker price to support Anki, which I've been using on desktop for over a decade at this point. However, the UI is in a very poor state and does not follow iOS developer guidelines. Since the app isn't open source, I am assuming this is a mobile wrapper built on the same Qt framework distributed on mac and windows. At a minimum, I am expecting a native Swift UI with left and right edge swipes working for a paid app. New users without the desktop experience might not be as forgiving. Consider opening the repo to contributions, as this iOS app has been left in such a state for years at this point.

Serviceable, but too hard to set up

For $25, getting started from scratch should be extremely simple. There should be no inherent assumption of, or reliance on, a preexisting web-based system. I should be able to just download the app, download some decks from a cloud accessible on the app, and get to studying within minutes. So this does what it's advertised to do, but it's way too inaccessible for $25. Oh and for a $25 app in 2026, the word "iTunes" should not appear anywhere. That's crazy, man
