Customer
I’m very excited with the service I received from this company and looking forward to using them in the future!
Terrible app
This app freezes when you open it. It makes my phone heat up like crazy and drains the battery. It often crashes. Also, when you upload images from your phone and there is an error, they show you the error but there is no recovery path. Would also love to see AI image tagging for easy curation.
Love it
Love the app, I would just love to see the aspect ratio in the albums instead of squares. It’s make it easier to pick out pictures
Deeply bugged
App cannot open any gallery that I have, it constantly spins the loading icon and never refreshes, this must be fixed, it has been a problem for years
Upload broken
When I try to upload photos to an existing gallery, from an iPad, the upload button shows then disappears. After I’ve selected more than one it always flashes 1 on the button then disappears. I can’t upload photos while on vacation! Would also be nice to filter photos by the apple photo albums. When you have raw images and edited all in the same list, in square format, it is very difficult to choose the right ones. Long time user that otherwise loves the service.
The Best!
I have used SmugMug for many years- prob 7/8 and love it! I use it for personal and for sharing images after events! I love the ease and categorize options I can customize!
Auto upload issue
I've been a customer since 2010, never had an issue in general, all the sudden back in February of this year it stopped auto upload on my iPhone, I've contacted customer support and tried to fix the problem but nothing, something changed back in February which is when the app automatically performed the last auto upload and even if I try to manually auto upload it doesn't work either.
Iconography
The new icon is a joke, right? It’ll change back in 24 hours, right? OMG, is this an app for those in pre-school now? Really, guys?
Limited features on app
If I can’t have full functionality on the app, why bother
Buggy
The most buggy, glitchy, slowest software ever. SO ANNOYING! I never leave reviews, and even before I’ve researched seeing if anyone else deals with it as much as I do.
How do I unselect a folder?
The app is acting bizarre. I cannot unselect a folder after moving it and I have to close the app every time
Fix download bug
I can’t download my wedding photos to my iPhone. I keep getting an error noJSON
Everything works, design could be better
It’s a nice app to have on your phone if you want access to your photos, to look at or show to people when you’re out somewhere, or even to make minor edits if you want to. That said, I feel like the design of this app doesn’t quite match how I want to use SmugMug. First of all, SmugMug’s strength is in how it lets you build galleries - curated collections. It’s not supposed to be a social network, with a “feed” of photos. If that’s what I wanted, I’d use Instagram. It’s also not a photo backup of all the random photos I take with my phone. I don’t want screenshots or pics of receipts on my SmugMug account. If that’s what I wanted, I’d use Google Photos. So why does this app constantly pester me to turn on “auto backup”, with no way to opt out of that alert? Why is the homepage of the app a “feed” of recently updated things, instead of my gallery page? Please SmugMug - lean in to what you’re good at and what we love you for and ditch the rest :).
Most important function doesn’t work
I use smugmug to back up my iPhone photos. I pay a premium for this feature. It doesn’t work. It always gets stuck leaving hundreds of photos not backed up. It’s terrible. Problem is I’m stuck after using it for years and it would be a pain to migrate everything. Update 6/16/26: of course I already emailed SmugMug about this. Two days later they responded, “There is a bug within the app right now that our team is working on. When a fix is sent into the app store you will receive a notification from us to let you know to update.” Today, 4 days later, there is still no fix or notification. It must be a huge bug or a low priority for them. Wouldn’t recommend this app to iPhone users. It also doesn’t save Live Photos as live—converts them to stills. OneDrive may be better.
Crashes with larger galleries
When I try to view a larger gallery within the app, it attempts to load all thumbnails from beginning to end, even if I quickly swipe to the end. Then it crashes. Even worse, it forces all my other apps to reset. Please fix.
Smug mug rocks!
I love smug mug! Smug mug is really!!
Hello Spinner
The blocks of the spinner flash round and round, round and round, round and round. The blocks of spinner flash round and round, all while I frown. Specifically, the app opens showing my name, then a faint banner indicating that my site is private during trial. (I purchased the Pro subscription.) Below that is the spinner. Yes, I updated the app. Five minutes later, it is still spinning. Goodbye.
Could be better
App was very useful for access on the go. Having problems now after I just updated the app and it’s not opening. Also, it would be nice to have the ability to change gallery password directly from the app
Like it but…
Lots of bugs in IOS 25.x and iphone 17 pro. While scrolling online or offline many images are ok vertical but blank (all black) when rotating the phone to horizontal.
Auto upload doesn’t work
My auto upload doesn’t work
Easy to use
Acceptable loading times with cellular service, faster with WiFi. Easy interface and accessibility easy set up.i only have issues uploading Nikon NEF files onto the web.says file not recognized
Too many bugs
There seems to constantly be an issue with loading albums
Needs much easier favouriting for clients
I’ve been using smugmug for years, but they really need to add a simple method for clients to choose favourites. At the moment it requires a very clunky Event sign up. When all the other main competitors such as Shootproof and Pixieset have much easier systems, it’s amazing tha Smugmug still fails to match them.
Bugs that just don’t ever seem to get fixed
The app interface for this site seems to just get more and more frustrating over time. The collect virtually copy function of sending a photo to multiple galleries hasn’t worked on my iPhone in months, it constantly forgets all of my data I’ve saved for offline viewing, and to top it off it heats up my phone after just having the app open and then randomly crashes after 10 minutes. Lots of work ahead to improve this platform. I don’t want to leave for another interface but the continued problems might just force my hand. Please fix soon.
Buggy but potentially great
This is a great platform for organizing and storing photos. We have years worth. Using it on a laptop/desktop is easy but iPhone version super buggy! When you are in a folder, the + symbol to add gallery teases you - it hides or the menu disappears quickly. Very unreliable. You also can't move galleries between folders from the phone app.
Best Decision
I recently switched to SmugMug and will never look back!! The site is easy to navigate and the customer service is TOP NOTCH
Can’t read pictures
I went to update thinking the issue is updated but it still hangs
Easy to use
Like the look and feel and ease of use. Would like ability to change the order of galleries within a folder through the app.
Fix the downloads
The app continues to be bugging and I’m a long time customer of smugmug. I like to download my photos from the app for IG. Sometimes I’ll Download each one and my camera roll has the same picture 20 times. I have to log out and log back in each photo. Nearing the end of my smugmug relationship if it is t fixed sooner than later. Should also cancel Flickr as well since they own both now.
New logo lost the app its place on my Home Screen
It’s so bad.
Back-up on the go
Almost as easy as using the website. I love that my photos automatically sync.
Not for Busy Professionals
The app constantly crashes when I am trying to upload pictures from site. Desktop version is great but don’t bother with the app unless you want to get mad
Great App but Not Perfect
The app is lacking in organization functionality and also the ability to manage the info of images like title and keywords. I have to go to the web for that.
Keeps crashing
I can’t open the app to run more than a few minutes when it crashes. Even with the app updated. Very sad face :(
Auto upload is awful
Auto upload is the thing they need to improve on this app. It takes forever and always fails. Also i hate the new app icon
President
Excellent app!!
Uploads from Photos doesn’t work
This new update looks nice but it won’t recognize my photo library. I have allowed access to the entire library and it just spins. I am trying to send a client graduation photo proofs. I think I need to find a new service. This is not good. The most basic function isn’t working.
Smug mug rocks
I’ve used smug mug for years now. It rocks. Dependable storage, innovative options, reasonable rates, excellent storage capacity . What’s not to love? In europe, I was able to use my iPhone like it had unlimited memory ‘cause I confidently uploaded all my days’ pix to smug mug and cleared the phones memory for the next day of unlimited photography
Works for some stuff
Works well enough for viewing galleries. Auto upload just doesn’t work since they broke something on 4.12
Glitchy
App crashes often and has issues moving photos to other albums and uploading photos. Desktop version doesn’t have these issues
Logo
Hate the new logo. Reminds me of a Pac-Man piece. Very “loud” prefer something more subtle based on photography.
Bad updates.
Last few updates have resulted in nothing but an increase in the app crashing. Making the app pointless to use and have to use the actual website on a computer. Update June 3, can finally sign in on IOS 26.5 without crashing, but trying to upload more than 3 pictures at a time still results in crashing.
Smugmug
Très satisfait et ça fonctionne très bien cependant,le chargement avec Pac man pourrait être mieux....
Quite unstable these days
I get constant app crashes after a few minutes, likely related to autoload, which has not been successful for me recently, possibly in conjunction with iOS 26 (iOS 26.1, iPhone 16) Update: same issue persists several versions later.
Love the app, hate the icon
I’ve been a happy paying subscriber for over a decade. I love the app, hate the icon. So I regretfully hide Smugmug in a folder which limits how often I use it. You’re creative people over there at Smugmug. I’m sure you could put together an attractive brand identity. It’s time. I’d even be happy if you adopted Flickr logo and even the entire brand which has far more public cachet than Smugmug. I was so happy when you acquired Flickr. I hope you make better use of it by bringing the best of Flickr into Smugmug, including the brand identity.
Used this for YEaRs
Im very dependent on the quality and reliability
Problems uploading
Upload in app not working with iPhone photos
So far so good.
This app is easy to navigate and download photos
the new icon makes me want to throw up
change it back
Great but needs to be password protectable.
I want to use on a shared iPad at but will have to use the web app until password support is added.
