Wow! I have been using the Phys.org app for years and this most basic of app functions hasn’t ever worked — the app would always crash on launch — but today it did. I wonder what changed… Well, nothing it seems. Back to normal crashing the following day.

Absolutely infuriating that I can not look at anything I have saved.
App crashes to view saved articles
I love this site and was excited to get the app. I got the app about a year ago or so and noticed immediately the app would crash whenever I tried to view saved articles. At first I thought the app was still getting figured out and didn’t mind it. But till today, the app STILL crashes to view saved articles. The fact this simple bug still hasn’t been fixed is beyond me. Fix this simple bug and this app would get 5 stars. I don’t understand how this hasn’t been resolved. Edit: this review was written almost a year ago and unfortunately it seems the app/site developers could care less about resolving an extremely inconvenient and frustrating bug. I recommend reading articles from this site as you get the best source of immediate scientific news and research updates but anybody that can reach out to the direct developers, please do and let them know about this unfortunate feature. In the app, trying to open my saved articles list causes the app to crash.
Excellent App
Wonderfully informative and well formatted. I use this app every night. Dark mode needs to change the blue color highlights to a lighter colour because It is impossible to see in low light.
The app crashes when you tried to view saved articles
If you try to click on the little heart to view your favorite articles, you are met with crash. The end. No articles. No fix. Update: if you uninstall and reinstall, and then choose the restore purchase option, you can now access your favorite articles folder, which is completely empty.
Why serve ads when I’ve subscribed?

Good design, missing key features
The Phys app has been a great source for me to read current articles and news. But the app is missing two very important features: 1) There’s no search option. I can’t search for keywords of topics that I’m interested in, so I’m just at the whim of what the app presents. This option is available on the browser version, why not the app? 2) You can’t sync your ScienceX account to the app. So any saved articles don’t transfer over to the app. If these two issues were fixed, I’d use this app much more!
Needs Stage Manager Support
This app would be great if it was supported by iPadOS 16’s Stage Manager mode…

Articles are nearly impossible to read as they flicker and reset back to the top constantly.
Great Readings but…
I love the app’s reading material. I feel like I’m out making discoveries with the science community. The app,itself just seems crash often and the biggest reason I don’t use it as often. I would like to see maybe blogs and better notifications such as me wanting to see updates on discoveries or maybe just filtering for subjects on the cosmos!
Wonky app
Been trying my hardest to really use this app as a source of information, yet every time I try to click on my saved articles the app crashes. Every.Single.time. It's frustrating
Love the content, but no app update for 2 years???
I needed something to replace the doom and gloom of daily news that was destroying my brain, and I love the content of Phys.org. Great articles, concise and conversational writing. Also LOVE the fact that full article content is actually surfaced within the main interface, rather than constantly linking out to external sites like some other services. But this app feels like someone made it as a side project. No ability to toggle between light and dark mode outside of your device OS, illegible dark blue links in dark mode, very few features beyond the ability to sign up for subscription, and - despite lots of obvious bugs - no updates for 2 years??? So I’m guessing this project has been abandoned? Too bad, because I feel like they have great potential. But I’m not paying a subscription fee for something that has such infrequent developer attention.

It won’t open and the developer won’t help
I really love this app when it works. After the last IOS update, it refuses to open. I’ve tried contacting the developer on their site but their Capcha isn’t working so I can’t submit a request for help. How can I restore this app so it works again?
Just one thing....
I find this app to be stupendous with one somewhat sizable flaw: every time I go and click on “favorites” to see the articles that were my favorites, I’m kicked out of the app. It’s very irritating. Still an excellent app overall though.
Website is much better
Phys.org website has ads, but that’s much better than being forced into a subscription with this app if I want to read more than ‘Spotlight’ articles.
Love the content, app needs work
The the right side window for the article keeps flickering and taking me back to the top of the article. I love the Phys.org content but as a paying reader please fix the app!

Stopped work…
This app stopped working on my iPad after updating to the latest version of IOS. But, the app works on my iPhone after the latest update.
Interesting Information for $11.88 per year
Four stars because of the known and already reviewed about bug of marking an article a favorite with the heart. Trying to go back and see your favorites crashes the app and exits it immediately. Aside from that there are some nice configuration options to tailor your news feed. Also nice that this is credible information, articles posted to pier reviewed journals, etc. please fix the favorites crash and I’ll continue my subscription (over a year now...) and update my review to 5 stars.

Hard to read on smaller mobile
I just downloaded this app and can tell that I will love reading the articles, except they’re going to be a bit hard to read. The font of the titles in the list of stories is small, and there are dark blue fonted words throughout the stories that are completely illegible. I use “dark mode”, which may be a contributing factor.

Unreadable
The dark blue typeface used for hyperlinks renders it unreadable against the black background. You need a lighter colour.

There were continual updates on the app. Crashes occur and some bugs need to be terminated.
Good Source of Science: For Now, Choose the Website
the open-source version of this application doesn’t allow many of the desirable web features. my greatest desire for the future is the ability to navigate subjects such as physics and chemistry without all the noise from other sciences.
Fix Tech Feed
Tech feed had not worked for over 6 months. Can you at least make the effort to fix it; that is if you even bother to read the reviews.
Excelent app - great source for science news
This is great app - about 10 stories per day that are interesting to read. Unlike many other free apps I've tried - this does not have disturbing ads in text. Other feature I like - possibility to view original website page without leaving the app. Rate feature seems to be fun, although I don't use it. I would like to see more customization options - but that is only availbale in paid version.

Lovely, but broken
When I scroll through an article, this app frequently snaps me back to the beginning of the article.
Could use some work
I love the app, don’t get me wrong - always have something phenomenal as the notifications. I’m always checking it, truly amazing. The only issue I’m having with as a subscriber is checking my favorites. The app closes when I do so. If that was fixed it would definitely be a 4-5* in my eyes!

Too much Political Indoctrination!!
Several years ago this app actually had cutting edge scientific articles but now it truly appears that the app has succumbed to woke politics hoping to indoctrinate their feeble minded readers. Big disappointment!
Subscription not working
Can't see any of the content even though it says I'm subscribed. Deleted and reinstalled. Signed in and out. No dice. Sort it out or give me a refund.

Waste of an app
This is trash. When you go to the website they promote the phys.org app but they want you to pay a subscription to be able to use gestures that are freely available on their website. Why on Earth would I pay you to access content via the app when you already provide it for free on your website? Why release an app if it isn’t at least as usable and accessible as the website?
Needs an "All" tab
It would be helpful to have an "All" tab that consolidates updates from all of the topic areas that you have selected. Since the app doesn't have an "All" tab, I have to go to 8 unique tabs to get updates on my selected topics. The lack of an "All" tab makes the app too wieldy for expedient use. A paid subscription should be able to provide this. Otherwise, the layout and info provided is fantastic!
Awesome
LOVE this app! Much nicer than following them on Twitter and trying to sort out from the public timeline. Nice and clean app with fast response.
Stopped working after a few days.
The app still sends push notifications but when I open the app to read news, nothing is displayed. Where the news items are supposed to be, there is only a blank white screen. I guess the app only supports paid subscriptions now? Would not recommend.
