What people like
- Great for deciding which books to buy
- Summaries are clear and professional
- Huge library of book summaries available
- Perfect for busy people learning on the go
What they complain about
- App crashes and freezes constantly
- Search function is incredibly slow
- Audio playback has many bugs
- Login issues with corporate accounts
Excellent
Great place to find information and knowledge, very friendly
Blinkist much better
Get abstract has more titles … but in theory. They produce a review and not a summary and with this way they communicate that they have more titles. Also they have much less audio . UI is 10 years old with very bad UX.

App schlecht programmiert
Da ist Luft nach oben. Lieblos programmiert.
Echt schade. Ich hoffe das ändert sich bald wieder.
Simplify
Business book by koch & Lockwood really had good practical advice that is helping me reshape business plan fir the new venture i stepping in.
Unable to sign in
Hi, The app is not signing me in. I am able to sign in via the web browser.
Accent
Great app. Please add option to choice a female or ethnic voice. Thanks,
App eigentlich ok.
Ohne installierte App…
Widersprüche in Abos
Excellent book abstracts!
As a 24+ year reader of the Executive Book Summaries service, I find these concise, yet full abstract is right on the money. Very happy with this service, and will recommend this to anyone who does not havetime to read a book from cover to cover.
Crashes at Login via SSO
The app is useless as it crashes every time (iPhone and iPad) once I try to login with my corporate account. Website works fine but the app needs fixing.
Great but book collection is low
This is a great app but the collection of books for personal growth is very less. Some of them are not available but are available on other summary apps. I hope this improves as I didn’t see any improvement since last few years.
Great concept, horrible audiobook voiceovers
I don’t have time to sit and read so I opt for audiobooks while doing chores. I want to love it but the automated voiceover for audiobooks is just torture, want to delete this app.
Too expensive for non corporate folks
This app has grown on me. I really like it now. But, I believe this is aimed more at businesses rather than your average joe. To really get my use of this app, I would need the pro subscription which runs $300/year! That is just too darn expensive for me. Wish it was more reasonable…
Fantastic
Simply the best short form, audio interface, and collection of content.
Simply amazing!
Must have book summary app. Not exactly cheap but definitely worth it.
Love the app
It keeps me up to date in terms of latest books and summaries that are useful
Extremely slow search
When I type a term to search it seems to search while I am typing which results I’m ridiculously slow results. Especially if I have a typo, basically end up waiting around for minutes for it to come back. I don’t understand how this can be the case. Please fix…
Very curious but app does not seem to work properly on IOS
I have been wanting to try this app but whenever I open it on IOS 14.4 it fails with “request timed out”. When I managed to find a book I was not allowed to read the summary despite the “free trial”. Edit: After reinstalling, and using email instead of twitter for the signup, I was able to use the free trial. There are still some usability issues with the app: 1. Slow searches 2. Not saving the state of where I was when reading a summary when I minimise the app, and then having to search for the book again. So 3 stars for great content, but a not very usable app.
SSO authentication does not work on iOS.
Need to use work laptop to read and listen to book summaries.
Good way to digest books quickly
Generally liking. But frustrated by the fact that many of the books I want are still pending approval for summarising.
10+ Year Subscriber!
As a busy executive I need to stay informed, updated and relevant to new information and new concepts in the business world and with my hobbies. Getabstract helps me quickly review new books before I go deeper and purchase. If you are as busy as I am this is a no brainer decision!
App has so many glitches
Love the site but the app always glitches on my iPad. Searches return nothing, all links don’t load anything, I can’t follow any channels... sometimes the app works but not as of lately.
Storage
It’s a great and informative app but it seems there is a limit to the amount of books it stores in my library...books I’ve chosen to read later or have finished reading. Is there a way around that?? I also believe an option to highlight findings will enhance the experience. Also a feature that allows me to leave comments or voice notes for my self will help to reference back
SSO not working
Not able to login using SSO. Always gives Load error after providing email id.
Thomas
Love it.
Crashing immediately?
This app is crashing immediately when opened. What could be the problem?
Content is fantastic, interface a bit buggy
Extremely well-written summaries read by clear, professional voice actors. The content is first-rate. However, the interface often freezes, restarts, and disconnects. Hope that future versions will fix these bugs.
Crashes all the time
Really good content in terms of summaries... But for a company who charges 300 $ /year ! Its a shame to have a mediocre app like that. The concept is really cool but plz update that app ASAP!!
Good App
But can’t delete recommendations
Great summary
The information presented create in me a sense full filled understanding of the individual books.
App doesn’t launch
It seems to be constantly timed out. I have uninstalled and installed again and still I haven’t been able to open it. Tried on two iPhones. Same result.
Very useful for busy people
GetAbstract helps me get involved with authors and topics that I’m really interested in, allowing me to do it in a way that adapts to my day to day. I recommend it to people who enjoy taking a moment for personal growth and relax
Very ordinary app...
The website content is so rich and you can search across categories, find out the top rates books and find related books. This app does not provide any of those important features and hence have a lot of scope for improvement
Critical feature missing...
I drive a lot, so the ability to filter out summaries without audio would be key.
Very optimal!
When someone recommends a book to me, I always read the abstract on Getabstract, and if the book seems knowledgeable and helpful, I buy and read the book. This way I can save myself buying a recommended book that wasn't that good.
Continue where I left off?
In today’s update you promised that I could finally continue audio playback where I left of when I take a break from it. It doesn’t work! I even reinstalled the app... still nothing.
Crashes during search
When I try to search for something, the app crashes after two or three tries and this happens for every search. Please fix this.
Disappointing
Frequently crashes and freezes and slow to load content. Haven't used the audio function so can't comment on that.
Needs optimising for iPhone 6
Pretty crude UI. I expect better from something advertised to HBR readers.
Great Resource
G A has a large library to chose from & available to read or listen to. It’s great to have access to so many interesting reads, in a summarized format
Just does not connect!
What a crappy app from such a great content provider! The app always says that it cant connect to the network. Its a shame!
Great app
Very easy to use, lots of variety. It would be better to see a monthly option of a few books a week so we can explore further into the abstract.
OK ... But
The synopses are way too brief and provide no info on their own. Though the intro says "You will learn X", the brief doesn't actually contain much real info other than to talk about what the book will talk about. Watered down - Would find this app more valuable if there were more "juice". Maybe it is just the ones I have read, but at this point I won't be subscribing or buying more downloads unless they start to include more info.
Offline audio does not work!
Great looking app but audio versions do not play offline despite the fact that when saving to favourites any file with an audio component takes longer to add and a 'download' bar is evident. This really undermines the usefulness of the app - I want to be able to listen to the summaries in the car. Also seems strange that as an existing subcriber the app still offers me the option to "buy" the summary - surely it should recognise that I am a subscriber? Fix the offline audio issue and my rating would be a FIVE.
