Fast and easy
For a singer-songwriter, this is the perfect tool. For years i’ve recorded my ideas in iPhone Notes, but often wish I could’ve done it with a metronome. I do have GarageBand loaded, and it’s wonderful, but it’s overkill when you just wanna get ideas down quickly and easily. This app fills the bill. Nothing fancy, but it’s incredibly easy to record a guitar track with a built-in drum loop and add three additional tracks (vocal, harmony, bass) if I need to. One thing I discovered… I couldn’t use my Bluetooth headphones because of the latency issue, so I had to use my wired earphones (glad I still had a set) bought a USB-C to 3.5mm headphone adapter to connect. Small issue easily fixed. I love this app.
Ripped Off!!!
I don't won't to hear excuses. I already paid for this app, now you want me to pay for it again?? What an absolute shady business practice. You're not getting my money twice. I smell class action here. You basically stole from all of us. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Imagine buying a microwave, and 5 years later the company comes to you and says.... You know, 5 years ago we didn't charge you enough because we're idiots, so if you want to keep using your microwave you already paid for 5 years ago, we're going to need another $100 out of you. LoL Whoever gave you guys that advice deserves to be punched and fired. I look forward to watching this app fail and go out of business. Thieves.

Great recording app, stole my access
I bought this app when it first came out years ago. I paid for it. Not much, but that was the agreement. It’s easier to use than other apps. Recorded a bunch of songs on it. But then all of a sudden in mid project my access is taken away—not cool. I understand the need to increase revenue, but it should be done with in-app purchases or only get enhancements if you subscribe, but at very least a fair warning my access was dwindling would have been nice. Not cool! Now I’ve got unfinished songs I guess I’ll move over to Garage Band cause I ain’t subscribing at this point out of principle!

Even though most things on this app are quite obvious not everyone has the experience and knowledge to start using this technology without instructions. There must be a manual that is somewhere as you know even how many pages it is but all I can find is a coming soon. So where is the 33 page pdf document. I would gladly pay for this product if it is included. What’s up Rick

FOLLOW UP. If you don’t like bad reviews, Stop stealing from your customers! Figure out a way for customers who bought your product, to keep it. Imagine That if you can. Stolen Studio $$ I purchased this app a few years ago for its ability to offer some reasonable on the go recording options. Imagine my surprise upon finding out my one time purchase had been changed to a monthly subscription application and I only had a certain number of uses left. Suffice to say the kind and beautifully assembled song and dance I received from Mr. Smith in customer support was nothing short of hyperbole at its finest and far too long for me to include here. They want more of my money and didn’t consider offering a refund. Instead they offered a few more uses as a gift. I say skip it. It seems as though they hate customers who originally bought their product. Due to their poor business model they decided to just steal customers money and say we need more. Grow Food Yourself!
I like it except for one key feature missing
This is a fun and extremely basic but intuitive little multitrack recorder that allows you to record up to four separate tracks, just like the old cassette four-trackers from the 80s. There are very few bells and whistles save for some on-board drum loops which I think are new to the app and they are very helpful for setting down a groove for adding your guitar tracks, bass, etc. tracks. The one key feature missing I mentioned in the review title is such an obvious feature for guitarists that I can't believe it's not been included in this most recent update and that is the ability to loop the tracks like a looper pedal so you can practice a lead solo or other part. I hope the developer can add looping on the next update because that would make this a solid five- star app for simple, quick recording and practicing without the complicated learning curve on other recording DAWs. It would be great to be able to flip a switch for the transport to loop instead of having to hit the play button again when it stops.

Schöne, einfache App, ich benutze sie gerne zum Songwriting für Ideen zwischendurch. Den fünften Stern würde ich vergeben, wenn man beim exportieren direkt in soziale Netzwerke senden könnte, um die Idee z. B. Seinen Bandkumpels in die entsprechende WhatsAppgruppe zu senden. Ansonsten eine sehr nützliche App 😉

Hello, this sounds like a wonderful app but cannot find any instructions on how to use it. I will gladly change my rating if someone can point me towards some instructions.
Bluetooth headphones?
I’ve been using StudioMini for 10 years. It’s very easy to use. But something I just discovered: bums me out that the app won’t connect with my wireless Bluetooth headphones that I’ve paired with my iPhone; All my other audio apps do, Spotify, podcasts, etc. My iOS is up to date, what gives? Also, after 10 years, I’m still hoping for an update that would allow user to change tempos of the pre-recorded loops. Simplicity and ease of use makes it worthwhile, but it would be a GREAT app with a few tweaks.

EXCEPTIONAL Music Recording App!!
First and foremost, this app deserves WELL above a 5 star rating!!! As a singer/songwriter myself, I have been using this recording app religiously, since at least 2010, and to-date, I have not found another studio app that can even touch what Otreus has done here with StudioMini. It is truly one of a kind; created by two brilliant friends that share a passion for music, and most importantly, a genuine desire to create a platform for other’s to create, record, and mix a studio-quality production. This app truly gives you the tools, *at your fingertips*, to take what’s been in your mind, and turn it into a masterpiece. The quality is remarkable, and this app only continues to improve and surpass expectations when it comes to mobile recording. It allows you to seamlessly play every role in the production process; you are your own audio engineer. It’s designed purely with the user in mind.. What sets this app & company apart from the rest, is their outstanding customer service. These guys went above and beyond to help solve the issue I was having, as well as, welcomed suggestions. They had a quick response time, almost immediate solution, and made me feel involved in that process every step of the way. That speaks volumes.. All this to say.. Never Reviewed An App
Edit: 2024 Update Well, all good things come to an end. A year ago I was very proud to have my review featured on Otreus’ home page. I linked to them on my website and thanked them even. But now, like the review by user Uncoolcentral, I was forced into an update when my old phone broke and I got a new one and I had to download the 3.0 version. Considering that .99c * 12 = 11.88$/ year and I had formerly used StudioMini from 2017-2023 through a one time purchase of 5$, making it .83c/ year, that is a 1431% price hike on a tool I was sold as a one time purchase. I do not care about Bluetooth, I don’t need to pay nearly 12$ a year for panning I can do in Reaper, I was never unhappy with the exporting options which while rudimentary were easy and fluid. I read here my music isn’t locked in, but playback was prohibited so I would never have discovered this as the most fundamental aspect was blocked I wouldn’t have assumed higher functions were blocked. The stereo function possesses an extreme degree of latency on my iPhone 14 Pro Max and I haven’t found it to be worth using myself. I paid the month fee this month to “get access” before finding this so I could offload my stuff but I doubt will keep this subscription. I am extremely disappointed. I wish that I could have the legacy application back and this new version was a separate application. Idk if that incurs a secondary dev fee if 99$/ year or not to host in the store and as a person working on a bachelors in software development I can understand wanting funding for projects; but as a user I feel alienated by this change and beyond disappointed. StudioMini was formerly my favorite musical product in existence and now it is just another musical product in a wilderness of plugin makers trying to nickel and dime musicians who most likely get paid in pennys. Congrats Reaper, you’ve won the crown. The 50$ Resper license is what StudioMini will cost a user in 4 years and .12 months but is infinitely more powerful and a MacBook Air is comparable in price to an iPhone and portable to all scenarios I ever took StudioMini into. Edit: 2019 update, still the best 4$ I have ever spent on music. — Seriously, this thing is more powerful than most studios in the 90’s. I am amazed at how light and powerful this DAW is. It turns my iPhone 7+ into a recording machine that is quick, efficient, and easy to migrate products from. 5 stars, two thumbs, etc. Et al. Edit: One year and a r er half later I apparently forgot that I ever wrote a review for this and came here to say that I have never reviewed an app before and— but apparently I have. I still love Studio Mini, I have made so many songs on this and it’s really simple to use for getting started with learning DAWs and continues being useful even after. I moved internationally and had to leave a lot of my gear behind but luckily I still had this until I can actually get some amps and mics.

Bought this not knowing I needed a computer to import audio. Why would I spend money on a studio app if I had a cpu.

This is a really good recording software, it reminds me of the days I spent recording onto tape with my old tascam 4 track. I really like the simplicity and the end results but unlike a tape deck you can't just hit eject and share it with friends and that's where this app falls down for me. Mixing down is fine but sharing is a fail, you/I can't export to other apps directly. I can't find a way to directly upload the results to sharing sites. This is a total pain. I can access the files over wifi on my iPad but from there it's a dead end. On my Pc I can save the files but all my music software is on mobile devices so it then has to go from pc to my iPad for a tinkering before sharing. To have to insert a pc between iPhone and iPad is annoying. Even if I install it on my iPad the same problem exists. I'll be looking into the iPad version but if it's the same but bigger forget it. If you just want to record Demos without sharing I'd recommend this as it is a good app for that. If you could upload to Dropbox or something similar for me it'd be closer to 5* but sadly it's lacking this feature. It would also be nice to change the tempo of loops, I'd be happy if that was added as an IAP. All in it's pretty good!
Songwriter’s Best Friend
StudioMini has been a go-to for 10+ years. The ease of capturing song & lyric ideas, along w the ability to multi-track “on the go” is priceless. AND - all on the smartphone and other devices. I’ve had many cuts and a #1 that originated because of StudioMini on my phone. I can’t wait to see what’s in store with this DAW powerhouse in the future! jp
Another lame subscription
Updated review after rugpull. Wish I could keep the app I paid for. Sigh. Forced to “upgrade” to having to pay all the time now. At least they were kind enough to give me a few days free so I can offload my files before the app ceases to be usable. Should’ve known if something is too good to be true…. It’s probably just a matter of time before they make the product you bought unusable unless you pay up again and again. Will pass. Thanks for the good times. Great app for throwing ideas together, love the simplicity of it. There are some features I do wish it had (like a way to scroll trough time to listen to specific parts* or cut /trim audio segments..) but I also feel like being limited is part of the point of the app. I find that this works very well at what it does. Not a full studio, nor do I think it was it intended to be one, but it’s a wonderful tool and worth having for brainstorming ideas or recording demos. I wish there was a deluxe version too, love being able to work so quickly when creating, but would be great to be able to have a little more editing ability or at least a scrolling ability so you could punch in at or listen to certain points and not have to start over each time *Edit: I can’t believe I’ve been using the app this long and didn’t catch that you can scroll through playback- I still think it’d be handy to be able to use that to start recording at a particular point in the song - another suggestion would be having the loop track also have recording function so you could use that as either a loop or a 5th track? Bottom line Overall I really love this app and have no complaints, I was hesitant but had I known how much I’d end up using and enjoying it.. totally worth it. Thanks for making a cool product.

Have used on both iPhone and ipad.Could do with Bluetooth headphone monitoring and some more drum loops however, it’s so user friendly and glyph get some really great quality recordings
The ding
Great for quickly and easily getting your ideas down, but suddenly crashed and reset to blank. Empty. No retrievable songs. All those rare moments of inspiration lost. Pen and paper next time. Be warned...

Please update with some effects for the vocals, adding atleast up to 2 fx for each vocal, and is there a way for it to be like audacity but mobile

Love it. Great app to record demos or just noodle around with sounds. File export could be better, and make sure you back up your jams. Recently upgraded a phone and lost everything! Still a very solid app though.
Okay, but why no pan?
This is potentially a great app, but why is there no pan control? This makes it practically useless for the iPhone 4 which only records mono via the inbuilt mic.

Wrote two new ideas for songs super quick! got the tempo, melody, vox and keys soooo fast - sent it to my brother- the drummer- for preproduction and is already starting to work on it- super intuitive- look forward to some simple effects per track to get a little more direction of the general idea. It’s the voice memo for the musicians!!
Bait and Switch
I have a bunch of recordings I made in StudioMini years ago. Now I find out that because I’ve updated the app I’m only able to use the app a few more times without paying a monthly fee. When I originally purchased the app it was a perpetual license- by once, own forever. If I knew updating to the latest version would cripple the app I would not have updated. Devs: you’re undermining your support. When people would ask me about recording on a mobile device I would drop the StudioMini name. Now, I’m going to tell them to avoid it. Smooth moves. I understand developers need to make money, but this isn’t the way.
Middling Program with major limitations
This software is quite an achievement compared to 4 track recorders from days of yore. Having said, once you get beyond its ability to allow you to lay down basic layered tracks on a phone - an iPhone 8 in my case – the apparent features frustrate rather than spawn creativity. The problem is, the year is not 1995 and even back then, 4-tracks allowed for flexibility in adding vocal effects and provided inputs for drum machines with a range of tempos. This does neither, at least without high-tech savvy, and missing both those, a musician will experience huge frustration with the results. I’ve recorded many a tune at an undesired pace, overly rushed or too draggy, and it’s a big disappointment to hear those songs now. And choices of reverb or echo would greatly enhance the experience also, but sadly, nada. Added to that, there is no ability here to “punch-in” so any performance errors require the entire track to be stopped and redone. Big loss on that. Finally, nothing can be played externally from within the program over Bluetooth, so forget about checking out an early mix in your car or Airplay. All in all, for high schoolers or young amateurs, this has some usefulness, but unless the developers are actually active on improving this, keep expectations very low. None of these things have been dealt with in the year or more I’ve had the program. Too bad.

How can you record a track in time without a metrenome? You cant hear other tracks whilst recording, im glad i downloaded it from an itunes voucher that i needed to spend!

This app is pretty good and I would like to use it when recording with my band, but it would be much cooler if you could loop your own recordings instead of just ones that are pre-recorded. That would make this app totally worth the money and a detonate 5 stars!

I am loving this- wanted to be able to do this for years. Very simple to use. Shame I can't edit any bad bits out of tracks or record over the end but that ups your game & makes you perform better. Best so ever. Thank you so much.
No input monitoring !
Lack of input monitoring makes it difficult to play along to recordings. There is no way of adjusting the line signal either if your using the iRig or Peavey input devices. The pre recorded drum loops are handy but the tempo is fixed and can't be changed to suit your song ; you can do this in the Sonoma four track app. One thing I do like is the count in feature but apart from that this app needs a lot more work to make it usable. For the price of a pint this gave me five minutes of entertainment then I deleted it. Cheers!.
Missing some specs
It would be handy if you could also download the mix I also miss the possibility to turn down the input volume of the mic. for live recordings you need to use a external mixer & mic other than that it's a nice and simple app to make a quick recording
Easy to use
This recording app is the best I have used so far. With the recent updates, it is user-friendly for people who are blind or low vision. The communication between myself and the developers has been excellent. They’ve been forthcoming with information and very willing to help with directions and guidance as how to use the different functions. Great job!!!
Trash app.
Don’t see what gets people so excited about it. Limitations upon limitations....for the price of 5 dollars. There are free apps better than this for basic recording. I’m a professional media producer. I was made curious by all the positive reviews. Now, I’m feeling ripped off. Skip this and buy Multitrack DAW.
Update for iPhone 5!!!!!!
The iphone 5 has been out for well over a year now, this app should be updated to the screen size of the iPhone 5 Other than that a great app and does exactly what it says!
Dissappointed
The idea behind this app is great. I can see it being a great resource for musicians; however, I was really dissapointed with the quality. It is difficult to use because the buttons and levers on the screen are hard to control. It is hard to understand what this app can and can't do and I find that it is a frustrating trial and error game. There are too few features to make this app worth while. It could use more tracks and the ability to add drum fills and breaks so that the drums aren't so monotonous. It would also be nice if you could set the drum speed because the given speeds don't always fit with the songs I want to record. Hopefully updates will come with more features and better calibration.
