What people like
- Amp models sound really great.
- Very easy to start using.
- Completely free to download and use.
- Better than GarageBand for guitarists.
What they complain about
- Login and registration keeps failing.
- App crashes or freezes often.
- No support for third-party plugins.
- Hard to sync files across devices.
Very User-Friendly
Simple & to the point is what I've been looking for when it comes to studio effects & edits. Fender delivers premium results w/o the confusion. It really cuts to the chase!
Not accessible
Not usable with voiceover.
headphone problem
Headphones will not work on up-to-date imac. The headphones work on all other sound options on the computer. In the Fender Studio drop down menu under Audio Setup and Playback Device only imac Speakers is shown (speaker cable is connected to imac.) I want this app to work properly before I invest in a Fender Link device.
Server Error
As mentioned by others, can’t register because of a 500 Server error. Most of the Jams are locked but that doesn’t really matter because you can’t use the Jam mode! Update: Just receive a reply that the server problem has been fixed but I’m still getting the same 500 Server Error when trying to register. I even created a new ID and password which didn’t help! I realize this is a free app but it would be nice if it actually worked.
Doesn’t Work
I am trying to connect my Tone Master Pro to Fender Studio via USB-C and it absolutely refuses to display the Tone Master Pro under Audio Setup. This app sucks.
Great app just needs a Scarlet
I used this to record with my I pad and when I did it sounded not great but I bought a scarlet 2I2 and a scarlet solo works to and it sounded AMAZIN!!!!!!!!!!
Buggy
Not a fan of having to log in literally every time. Functions just fine but it gets annoying anytime I got an idea I get asked to log in before anything else.
.
The app really needs background audio support. When I switch to the home screen, the app stops playing, which is quite inconvenient. It would be great to have more guitar amp models and effects available — the current selection feels too limited. There are several bugs. The app often freezes or crashes, and I’ve had to reboot it multiple times. Overall, it has potential, but it needs more stability and features to be truly useful.
Works!
Awesome, plugged my old Zoom G5n into an iPad Pro. No audio interface needed. Plays stereo back through my dual FRFR speakers. Fun on the cheap.
Does’t work at all
I loved the idea of multitrack recording my gigs. I have a Presonus 24r mixer which suppose to work seamlessly with this app. As soon as i connect the usb cable it crashes. What a joke!
Very Impressed
Didn’t work initially, but Fender seem to have sorted it out. Works great now. Get it!
Registration issues continue
iPad m4 and iPhone 17. iRig usb. It worked once or twice. Hangs regularly when starting. It’s hit or miss getting it to start jiggling the toilet handle. Too unreliable to trust. Remove the hoops to jump through the inane anti user friendly login/registration and it may be practical. The export to desktop app is amazing but if you can’t open the app, its function brilliant or not is entirely inconsequential.
Error
I got the app, and first I thought it was great. But when I tried to sign up, no matter what I did, it said not authenticating, or error, and all that stuff.
It does what it’s meant to do!
News flash, clowns! This is not meant to be a complete DAW! It basically says that on the cover - if you could read..! I for one am happy to see putting out free utilities for guitarists and I think it’s going to do wonders for their brand, and in my case it’s bringing back a little love for the name in the first place. Keep it up, please! :)
Audio not working right.
I’m using this with a fender link io on an iPhone 17 pro max, and when monitoring the audio in studio it cuts out like crazy. If I change to monitoring the input signal on the I/O device it sounds fine there. Wiggling all the connections changes nothing. So it has to be a software or compatibility issue. I tired all different bitrates and sample sizes, no difference. I don’t know if it’s the hardware or the software, but it’s completely unusable. Developer said there was an update and to try again. There has been no update. Just double checked on the App Store again, and no update has been installed and no update is available. Still broken.
Nice idea, but buggy!
I love the idea of a simple DAW focused on jamming, and as a Studio One user I’m glad both products exist. But Fender Studio is extremely buggy. By day two it stopped playing or downloading any jam tracks. They start and fail in under a second, making the app unusable for my main intended purpose. The sign-in flow is also broken: I often get a 500 error, or it just fails with no message. After I finally get signed in, many jam tracks still appear locked and the app tells me to sign in again, even though I already am. Please fix these issues.
Ok to a point
I have a mustang micro plus, but without purchasing an expensive Apple USB 3 to lightning Camera adapter I can only record using the iPad microphone. Not sure if I’m doing something wrong, but simply plugging the Mustang Micro into the iPad doesn’t work. I do have a camera adapter, but version 1 so not compatible. Shame.
Re-synchronization issue.
So I misunderstood how to adjust the buffers in Fender Studio, my bad, so it's the bit rate and once I set it to 512, everything is OK. I've actually recorded several songs in the software and they came out pretty good. But tonight it started crashing. When you execute it, it won't fully open, it hangs and then it eventually closes, rebooted but that did not rectify the issue. Anybody else having this issue.? On a iPad Pro 12.9 from 2021. so this is an update, so I found a walk around for my issue, if I assure the USB cable is not plugged into my tablet when I execute fender studio, it opens just fine. I just have to make sure that the USB port is not plugged into my tablet when I first initialize Fender studio. Then once it fully executed, I can plug the USB cable and everything works fine.
Does not work
When I first saw the app, I got so excited But it does not do anything don’t download complete scam
Scarlett solo
I hooked this up with my old irig2 and it worked somewhat but has feedback issue with mic blending in I think(iPhone SE) so brought out my Scarlett solo and it recognizes the Scarlett as output but will not recognize it as input… very frustrating because I can tell I could love this app…my Scarlett works great with AUM and loopy…. I also have iOS 17 running… thanks am sure this great app
Effects Issue
I recently just got the Link I/O to work with the app and was super excited. I got my guitar to come through through my headphones when I’m hooked up to my IPad with the USB-C cable, but it won’t record any sound and none of the effects work. I tried to troubleshoot by looking stuff up online but it won’t even let me change the Audio Setup menu. I think this could be a great app but I’m very disappointed that it’s not working. If a developer could help me work through my problem I’d greatly appreciate it because if not then I have no choice but to send it back. Thanks
Registration of Studio failed. Error status 500
I have been so excited to tryout this app on my iPhone 15 Pro Max running iOS 18.6 since I read about it online a few months or so back. Unfortunately, when I log in to the app with my Fender account using Sign in with Apple (which I’ve always used and verified is working on the Fender website, Fender Play, and all the other apps) I receive the following error message “Registration of Studio failed. A error occurred at the server (status 500). When I click the menu icon in the top I see that while the registration part failed I am logged in and my email address is displayed. I’ve tried logging out and then back in. I’ve tried to log in over different wireless networks as well as over my cellular network. I even created a new account using a different email address but, nothing seems to fix the registration issue. Please help and thank you!!!
Incredibly fun
The amp models sound great. I’ve really enjoyed exploring effects chains, too. Couldn’t be easier to get started.
Wow, is it bad.
…And the award for the worst UI/UX goes to Fender. If you’re new to recording try Garageband instead of this utter disaster.
Great… however
This daw is phenomenal for a free app! However it does lack the ability to use plugins, and I’m sure a lot of people use them. i would love to see this as a feature in the upcoming future. Hopefully that’s not a problem. Cheers!
It's not working
I'm not sure if this is something to do with my phone, but when I first got this app, I was super excited because it was fender (Which is awesome, but it doesn't work. Whenever I tap "Jam" it doesn't let me open it, and the recording doesn't work either. It's prolly just a little bug, it would be great if y'all could fix this. Thank you.
Nice but needs work
The recordings are clear and the interface is nice but in my experience the metronome is really buggy. Sometimes it comes through in the recordings directly (it’s not the headphones I’ve removed them when testing) This forces me to close the app and reopen it which sometimes solves the issue and sometimes prevents the metronome from being audible at all. This makes the app go from real tool to just a toy. Happy to trouble shoot with dev if needed.
RECORD. JAM. CREATE.
Garage band who? This app blows the pants off every other music creation app ESPECIALLY if you’re a guitar player. DOUBLE ESPECIALLY if you like free official Fender amp sounds. A++++++
Not functional
Downloaded app, but does not work?
Fun app, one small glitch
i've been a GarageBand user for over a decade so I am coming to this app with that experience. What I like about the app is that due to its bare bones approach for recording guitars bases and vocals with no midi or virtual instruments to be found, I'm finding that it causes me to focus more on my guitar playing instead of relying on beats and backing instrumentation and I get a lot better amps and effects with this app than I do in GarageBand. if I want to use a drum loop, then I can simply import one from another program or I have the option to load one of the jam tracks and mute whatever instrument I don't want to use in the jam track, for instance, just play along with the jam track drums. A technical glitch I have however, is when I first connect my iPhone 14 Pro Max to my Behringer interface there is a delay of about 10 seconds where I can hear low level audio popping and on one of the channels on my interface the input lights blink for a few seconds then it goes away and I can start recording with the app normally. My interface is perfectly fine and I'm not experienced this issue with any other apps, including GarageBand, BandLab or any of them. also, I do not experience this with my 2017 iPad no issues with it, so I may just use this app on my iPad only until perhaps future updates will fix the issue I am experiencing with the iPhone. but overall, I'm liking this app and looking forward to see what Fender adds to it down the road.
Account sign in
Current version for Mac does not support Sign in with Apple. iPad and iPhone app support it. Update: Fixed sign in but now it won’t load anything from the server. This seems like a fantastic way to practice without having to pull out all of the gear but if the app is only half baked then I might as well go through the effort of pulling everything else out
Unable to import .m4a files?
Seems unable to import backing tracks in Apple’s m4a format
Best sounding mobile recording app!
Fender Studio is great! the Fender amps and effects sound amazing, the vocal effects are fun and the app is super easy to use. Love it!
Update needed for sign in issues
After the update: Now allows me to sign in but says registration failed. Tried with both a Facebook and google log in, same error
Cloud save option would seal the deal
I’ve been trying spending some time with the app - primarily as a ‘capture ideas and work them up’ tool (rather than finished recordings). It’s a competitor to GarageBand for my workflow. Tldr: I prefer it to GB but not being able to sync files across devices and collaborate with others means I personally will end up sticking with GB. Longer notes - love the phone interface, and the amp/pedal modellers mean I can skip carrying around a headphone amp as part of my portable recording kit (I use a mustang micro in my guitar to GarageBand set up). Love the ability to tap out a tempo for the click track too. Feels more intuitive than GB in a lot of ways. But with GB I can work on something on my iPad, then finish it off when on the go on my phone, by saving the project in my iCloud Drive. I’ve not managed to get that to consistently work with fender studio. I love that it’s free and not tied to iOS, so band mates who don’t have apple gear could get it and work on projects I send them - but at the mo I’d have to export the projects, send them to them, and reimport them, rather than being able to collaborate if we’d saved them in some shared cloud space. Not a dealbreaker, but makes version control a pain. Those specific use cases might not apply to you, in which case, I’d say it’s a great option. For me, I’ll keep an eye out to see if any changes along those lines come in the pipeline, but stick with GB for now.
Additional Plugins are activated if Fender Connect account is synced
I saw that the login peripherals were fixed because I used my apple account to sync with my Fender connect account finally! However the additional plugins that come with when you sync fender connect aren’t included into the program. Do you have an ETA of when this will be fixed? I work in UX and I think the rollout should’ve just included an MVP 1 of the base features. And an additional MVP afterwards that included the additional plugins—just a thought.
Buggy
Crashed a couple of times and it’s impossible to set up a precise loop, because it just moves the playback position and not the endpoints of the loop, which makes it unusable as a practice tool. Seems like a beta version right now, but worth watching when/if they fix it.
Amazing and fun
I have been a pro audio guy and guitarist for a long long time. I grew up with analog tape, made an early conversion to ProTools, engineered tons of albums. I now use Logic X and Reaper on my Macs. The ability to mess with the backing tracks is a plus. This could function as a software amp emulator nicely even without the recording/editing. Yes, the processing is a little limited but covers most needs. If they included access to AU or VST plugs then this would be a total game changer. Even as it is, especially for FREE, it is amazing. Thank you Fender!
No audio monitoring while playing
See above
First Version Has Some Kinks
The app seems to work at the beginning when I connect my iPhone to the a Volt 276 it would let me record, but then it’ll the app keeps going to the background. I have to exit and restart the program to be able to edit…. Nice try… I know that this problem and is solvable.
Good basis, missing features, sign in is buggy.
The basic app works well, but it needs some ability to add keyboards and drum beats (other than by importing samples) if it’s to be more than a glorified notes app with a built in amp sim.
There’s no sound when I use on the apple mac
It’s working flawless on my iPhone, then I decided to install on my MacBook, but for some reason the audio is not working :(
Nice and clean
just nice daw for who does Rae music and recording. Nice one
What is this?
I’m a Studio One user and was cautious when Fender bought PreSonus. I felt better when they came out with the “very good” interfaces designed in cooperation with Fender. This app; however, definitely has me worried again. The interface is nothing like Studio One, and I find it so stripped down of functionality that I would never use it. No third party functionality, no chord track (for an app aimed at guitar players), and no TAB integration. Why not have an ReAmp out channel (same as in Studio One) to integrate with the PreSonus interfaces that have a built in Guitar In/Amp Out feature co-developed by Fender? The selection of Amps and Stomps are very limited (not enough to build a proper digital pedalboard for some applications). I thought they would’ve built a very stripped down version of Studio One focused on singer/songwriters/guitar players. One of the complaints I have of Studio One is that it’s too focused on electronic music and not enough on other genres (like folk/bluegrass/outlaw for me). It seems like this product is so disconnected from Studio One (again, I’m a Studio One use and the interface wasn’t immediately intuitive for me) that it doesn’t seem like their strategy is to bring the two together and leverage what they already have in Studio One. It would make sense to me that they would want to make a natural pathway from this free product to their paid Studio One offerings. Very confusing???
Buggy. Missing features.
Unable to delete recorded audio. Unable to delete session. Solution, delete app entirely.
