Unreliable

I hate this app so much. The number of times it’s screwed me over by being inaccurate I can’t even count, but there’s no alternative. It has one job, and it does it poorly. Also, why is it a separate app from the PTV app?

Tracks slow trams

Melbourne has some of the slowest trams in the world due to decades of poor urban planning. The app does a pretty good job of substituting for signage at stops where they haven’t bothered to build any, I haven’t tried any of its other functions.

— Tobias123

★★☆☆☆ Australia · v2.8.0 · 11 Aug 2026

Frustrating

Recently the app has refused to work. It will show nearby stops and favourites but, more often than not, it will not connect to real time updates. Very frustrating. I use the PTV app or Google Maps instead most of the time.

Phantom trams

Mostly good. Issue is with phantom (tracked) trams that never turn up and those that appear without being in the app. Interface and features are stuck in the 90’s.

Suggestion

I like the update to show how busy a tram is and like that you know the size of the tram coming. Would be nice if the tracker could show the trams that will terminate early e.g 19d rather than 19

Review

This app always says the wrong times, don’t trust it. This app told me the tram was 2 minutes away so I sprinted for my life, being unable to breathe the tram arrived 6 minutes later, I was about to pass out after running that fast, good with all the stops but horrible work with the timings, very dissatisfied

Nice app when it works

Tram tracker is simple but does exactly what it needs to do. The problem I have is that it will eventually start to crash every time I open it. If I delete the app and re download it, then it works normally again. Besides this annoying issue though it is a helpful app.

It's a great app until it was working, now it's been 4 weeks and it doesn't work and no one even triea to fix it! This was the only good app for tracking the trams and now it's gone

Ok but is super buggy

Generally I like this app as it’s accurate and includes any disturbances, delays and detours. I’ve been using it for a year and a half and have had no issues until the last few weeks. Every day in the evening it crashes when I try to check nearby stops when I get to St Kilda. It works every other time, just not in the evenings in that area. I have tried closing the app and reopening, deleting and re-downloading and nothing has worked. It crashes every day, this is super frustrating.

Absolutely underrated app

I don't understand why so many people have been saying tramTRACKER is so bad, because in my personal experience it's the best and I wish there was a suburban train equivalent. First of all, the app works perfectly fine. Everything loads, there are no bugs, and the ETAs are accurate enough. The only issue I've had is when I go to the list of tram routes and tap on "Network", nothing loads. I believe this was supposed to be an image of the tram network map that just won't load anymore, but there are so many other places to find the Melbourne tram network map, such as inside trams, at tram stops, and online, so you don't really need it to load on tramTRACKER. I've also found that I don't get push notifications for service disruptions despite having turned that on and allowing push notifications from tramTRACKER, but again there are many other ways of finding out about service disruptions. Already tramTRACKER is good enough for telling people how long until the next tram, but there's even more. You're able to filter upcoming tram arrivals by whether or not they are low floor, which is great for people with physical disabilities, and you can also filter stops by if they have a raised platform, if they have a shelter, and if they have myki machines. You can also favourite stops and give them names and stuff so you can easily access their arrival times in the future. This may seem pretty basic, but surprisingly the PTV app (which soon should be the Transport Victoria app, for those reading this in the near future) doesn't have any of this. A couple more features I like: 1. You are able to search up the location of individual trams by their number. This also shows the scheduled departure times for each upcoming and previous stop, and the route number and terminus is shown at the top of the screen too. From here you can scroll left on a stop to send a push notification to your phone a couple minutes before that tram reaches the selected stop. 2. When looking at the upcoming tram arrivals for a stop, you get a little picture of what your tram will look like. This I personally like because I can then tell from that picture what tram class I will be getting on, and although most people won't really care about that, it might still be helpful to have a picture of what your tram will look like. In conclusion, I think tramTRACKER is great when it works. In all the years of me using it I have had little to no issues with it and will keep using it until it gets shut down for some reason or until I die. It's just that great.

A gem.

I’ve been using this app for many years and it works perfectly. Routes I use the most are favoured and quick to access. The app works great without location services turned on. It even shows how busy each individual tram is, patronage wise. Great time saver for me. Well done to all involved.

Its ok

I mean, yes it does its job attract trams however it’s just kind of finicky like sometimes it’ll stop working for me personally it’s stopped working for almost 2 weeks hasn’t started working again and to be honest you can kind of do the exact same thing with maps or Google Maps by just using the public transportation option and I’ll tell you when they get there as well as your entire trip time including walking. Not just the tram time though it’s a bit more accurate than the maps version and gives you a bit more data, but really to be honest. it’s kinda just easier to use maps

A Melbourne must!

I am new to Melbourne and use it everyday! I love how you can find a tram stop closest to your current location on the map and from there figure out how long the tram wait time is an its route. It does need a trip planner to make it perfect.

Tram Tracker suddenly not working

I’ve had no problem with the app for years till today. Now when I tap my tram stop, the app only shows the stop number and a message that it’s ‘unable to retrieve the requested information’. No clues as to the problem. Could be the IOS update a week ago? Who knows? It’s a waste of time trying to get any support or suggestions, like a time trip back to the 1990s. I’ve uninstalled/reinstalled without success.

★★★☆☆ United States · v1.4 · 22 Nov 2011

Good start

I was in Melbourne on holiday for a weekend. While this app was fun to play with, it lacked the trip planning functionality that would have really put it over the top. It would be fantastic to be able to type something like "St. Kilda" or "Casino" and have the app suggest the ideal route for me. Lacking these features, it was basically just a novelty item that was fun to interact with. The in-tram feature is brilliant.

Crashes when 'Updating'

App seems fine, but it's telling me I have 154 'updates' to download, including Stop Updates and Route Updates. The total download is 40.4kb (why, at this size, the process isn't simply automatic I don't know), but takes about 5 minutes to download. My device (5s) gets very warm while this is happening, too. Upon finishing the download, or within around 20 'updates' of finishing, the app crashes and I'm back to 154 available updates. Am I to assume the app is useless when so much of the stop and route information is out of date?
