I subscribed to this for the Mac early on as I enjoyed using it. Saw there was an iOS version but after downloading it became evident that my sub isn’t available for both. C’mon it’s not even a separate app, this is dumb.

Can you support Chinese language? Thank you very much。 At the same time, I think more features should be added, such as support for mobile phone quick recording, AI summarization and quick translation
Great Tool if You Pay the Full Price
The tool is good if you pay for the PRO version; otherwise, there is no way to save the transcripts. It offers various formats for saving the transcripts you create, yet you cannot use even the most basic one without paying for the PRO version. It makes little sense to use it to transcribe a video only to find you can't do anything with the result. While it does let you copy and paste the text into another program, a tool that offers a PRO option should still provide some fully functional basic features. Otherwise, it’s useless.
Graphics False Advertising
Well the product is good, I found out after purchasing the the Meeting function is only available on the website version and not this one - the graphics should be adjusted to let purchasers know that this version does not support the same functionality for meetings as the website
Excellent, well-designed app
This app gets a lot of things right and has a very nice native macOS design. Even perusing the settings is a joy compared to some other apps!
Just disappointing
I find that the main feature, transcribing YouTube videos works seldomly… I can’t find help. Disappointing.
Excellent work
Really love whisper, I have the Mac version as well and I think they are both outstanding. Not sure whether or not you’ve been informed but the iOS version is broken the keyboard does not show since 26.4. Other that hope it gets fixed soon as it’s a fantastic app.

Great application, it’s such a bummer that it can’t switch back to the previous app anymore. Apple knows how to kill a good thing.
It isn’t “free”
You can download the app, but as soon as you try to transcribe a video you’re hit with a paywall. 1 star for the bait-and-switch. If you had put this up as an $89 app, I probably would have been happy to pay that. However hiding it until after I’ve downloaded and installed the app and started a project… Well, I’d give you zero stars if I could.
IMPRESSED
Somewhere between 4 stars and 5. Overall, very impressed. it does most of what I need it to do, and has already saved me hours of time. I got a one month subscription to check it out, and i’ll upgrade now to annual. i’m transcribing a series of talks and q+a. The app does a great job of transcribing the talks 90%+ accurately. it also identifies different questioners’ voices, separates them out, and recognises when it’s the same voice asking a later question (speaker 2, speaker 3 etc…) . it’s all the more impressive because the audio isn’t great: voice memo on an ipad recording a room with 30 people. If i need to check a bit of the transcription, clicking on the word takes me direct to that bit of the audio, and plays it, making checking obscure bits of the transcription (like unfamiliar technical terms) very easy. it also transcribes the audio in a fraction of the recording time, just a few minutes to transcribe a 50 minute multi-voice session. the free version of the app has a lot of functionality, and probably enough on its own for a single voice. the pro app identifies multiple speakers. i’m being a bit mean giving it just four stars: it’s making a big job much, much easier, though there are still a few (very few) inaccuracies, that are pretty easy to find and check. one other little niggle is that it imports with american english spelling, and i can’t see a way to switch to uk english.
Weak app. It used to work much better
At some point the developers got carried away adding AI transcription engines, but in the end the only one that works somewhat reliably is Parakeet v3. I used to transcribe 90-minute presentation recordings through this app without any issues. Now even a 30–40 second video clip can take so long to process that it’s easier to walk away and do something else. Very disappointing experience. The app has become slower, less reliable, and far less useful than it used to be.
Why yet another subscription?
I already paid for the annual pro plan on Mac. Now, this wants yet another, even more expensive subscription here. No way. I will find another service.

Sometimes it doesn’t record. I don’t like the fact that it doesn’t continue to record if I go to another app. I have missed a lot of information with this app.
Huge fan, new bug
Love this app; genuinely changed my transcription workflow significantly and running on-device is fantastic. BUT: the new update has broken cmd+f search in long transcripts, which is a massive problem. Please, please fix this!
Expected Something More Like The Mac Version Of The App
I paid for and absolutely love the Mac version of this app. It offers a pay once option with the ability to optionally tie into AI models using APIs. It allows open models to be downloaded, including models that will recognize speakers if there is more than one. It is easy to select or copy text and then paste it somewhere else. This version of the app doesn’t do any of that. I know Apple gets weird about what apps can and can’t do but I’m pretty sure that none of these issues are forbidden and it has left me pretty disappointed with the transition of this from Mac to iOS/iPadOS.
Heard great things.
No way to get support. Unable to transcribe paragraphs or include punctuation. Transcribes the words pauses, cough, bells verbatim if heard. Unsure why people like this.
Amazing
This is such a time saver as it works so accurately and now supports a custom keyboard which makes it super inconvenient to use with whatever app you want.
Poor App, lots of inaccuracies
The Mac app performs reasonably well, but the iPhone app falls short. Translation accuracy is often poor, and the summaries generated are frequently inaccurate. Overall, the experience did not meet my expectations, and I wish a refund were available. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this app.

Very good, high-quality, on-device transcription, which you can even use as a keyboard to enter text such as this.
Getting Worse
Used this like a year ago and it was great. It seems like every update they push shoves more and more stuff into the app to the point where it’s very difficult to use now. Assigning speakers to a transcript used to be so easy, now it’s just constant clicking. You have to select every single segment you want to assign to a speaker, otherwise they will show up as “unknown.” Exporting transcripts is also way more confusing, with options completely hidden behind unintuitive buttons. Would not recommend this app.

if add in ability to customize key height and *add a row of number keys at the top*. Also autosuggestions with memory. People would probably pay to replace existing keyboards
A Very Approachable Transcription App
This app brings the power of the Whisper AI model to the Mac desktop. The transcription accuracy is great, handling technical jargon, multiple speakers, and challenging audio quality with surprising precision. The experience is perfectly tailored for macOS, feeling like a native utility. Drag-and-drop functionality for importing media is seamless, and the transcription speed (even when using larger models) is impressively fast on Apple Silicon. The ability to process files locally on my Mac without sending sensitive audio to the cloud is a huge advantage for privacy and security. Although my workflow has a few niche requirements that the current set doesn't completely address, the version on the App Store is more than adequate for most people’s needs. The developer is very active in the community and is constantly making improvements to the app. If you deal with audio or video files and need a solid transcription on your desktop, look no further.
Watch out Mac users
All features, including the one I really needed, are not available on Intel-based Macs. Speaker detection was critical, and of course this didn’t work.
Good Keyboard Feature
This shortcut make more useful the app. (Just need to add more languages than the English one) Also wanted to see some Shortcuts app integration in the future. The app is evolving so good. 😊
iPadOS keyboard essentially unusable
I only use the keyboard functionality, and that appears to work on iPadOS only. For file transcription I use whisper locally via CLI on the laptop. I want to like the app, as it offers the ability to use one’s own API key, but as a transcription keyboard it more often than not does not work. Tapping the mic button, it flashes as if it is starting a transcription, then reverts to the keyboard and does nothing. If I disable and enable full access it may work a couple of times, then stop. I hope it improves. I am willing to pay a reasonable one-time fee for the app, but I neither want nor need the pro options.
A good BYOK alternative
Many transcription apps want to resell OpenAI; for those who understand how OpenAI’s transcription works, an app allowing one to use one’s own api key is sufficient, and this app offers just that. More importantly, using one’s own api key is important to avoid model training on one’s text. It has no provision for custom prompts, but for simple speech to text it is much more accurate than Apple’s transcription, understanding ‘Stoics’ instead of ‘stoic’ or ‘Stokes.’ The keyboard functionality is not reliable. For example, now when I tap record in the app keyboard, a screen pops up and says it is starting dictation, but it never completes or turns on the yellow hot-mic warning to the control panel (which is a good reminder to turn off the mic in the app when finished). The keyboard is why I want to use it, for dictating into Obsidian in particular.
Great for local transcription of meetings
This is an indispensable tool for me. The developers have done a great job of bring a product to market incrementally with continuous improvements. I am happy to pay them an annual fee for it.
On device transcription model not working
We haven’t been able to get the on device local transcription model to work on iOS or iPadOS. It attempts to transcribe, but doesn’t generate anything.
Great but one feature missing - Custom Model and custom parameter
When transcriping people with specific accent we should be able to use custom model or at least custom paramters to obtain much better result. Keep your good work.
Good app with HUGE Achilles Heel
This app has so much good, but its basic interface KILLS productivity. Instead of having a “Toggle” button where you enable it to record and hit the same button to stop, they make you set a key command to open global, then it records, then you hit command R to stop. Kills 2 buttons on my mouse. Please tell me I’m missing something. Other apps have a toggle button, why is this great app stuck with such a backwards initialization process?
I want to love this app, but…
The transcription of recordings in the app often return as “[Blank Audio]” despite the audio being clear on the recording. So frustrating! If not for this, it would be 5 stars and I’d consider Pro.
One of the best app for AI Summary !!
One of the best app I found that create summary and develop support API key. I was able to record meetings on my watch and transfer it to the app to create great summary. I wish there was a way to change AI model for api key so I can use GPT 5, option to hide dictations UI since I don’t see it “ Would be an option to add a toggle in the setting to hide dictation UI. “ like the desktop version. Have some saved prompts to create different versions of summaries
Broken on Sonoma
App is completely broken on Sonoma, and there's no way to roll back. Transcription hangs at 99%. GPU is no longer used regardless of how settings are set. What a joke.
Helpful App. Need Traditional Chinese Output
Whisper has helped me greatly for turning the English and Chinese recordings into transcripts. So far it seems like there are only Simplified Chinese and Cantonese Chinese. I wish the developer could make Traditional Chinese an output as well, so I don’t need to use another app to translate the Simplified Chinese to Traditional Chinese.

The greedy developers who made this app created something awesome, and it was entirely usable until they started putting basic features that used to be free behind a pay-wall.Now you can’t use any models except the Base model
Résultats mitigés
J’avais fait un test avec un bon micro à quelques mètres de distance en prévision de l’enregistrement d’une assemblée. Pour un court essai les résultats étaient bons malgré le son pas trop fort. Cependant, on dirait que plus l’enregistrement est long, moins les résultat est bon. À la fin la transcription rend carrément les armes et répète des bouts de phrase. Pour le moment la version payante ne répond pas à mes besoins. Je vais surveiller la version gratuite et réessayer la version PRO lorsque les résultats seront plus convaincants.

Great app!
I purchased the full Pro version of this a long time ago, and it’s shocking to me how—even after all this time of asking and waiting—Whisper still cannot create transcripts with paragraph breaks. The entire transcript comes out in one massive paragraph. The “Segments” option is equally useless because every single sentence is then placed in its own paragraph. Who writes or reads like this?! For a 30-40 minute speech, this is absolutely agonizing and tedious to fix. If humans can intuitively listen and generally know when a new paragraph should start, AI should be able to reasonably decipher where the natural breaks are in a speech, based on the audible pauses or subject matter. Really disappointing.

Much better than Apple's own dictation
I do wish the keyboard name can be shorter though, Whisper Dictation — Whisper is kind of unnecessarily long for no good reason besides making the menu digustingly wide when switching keyboards.
The app is not intuitive, not convenient
... and the app itself recommends one uses the free voice memo app for longer recordings. Why pay then? Developer needs to make a better version, connect it to the desktop version, etc.
Very helpful app
On starting, I failed to download the correct 'model' as it is called without which you can't select the files to transcribe. Once I got that right I have found this really, really helpful. My iMac M1 is not provided with enough memory to run the most accurate but slower transcription (!) but in fact one of the faster ones is perfect for what I want. In the settings there is a Find and Replace where you can supposedly train the app to transcribe particular words but I am not sure how well it works yet. The app could be improved but the Pro version is a reasonable price for unlimited access. I'm not even sure how much one would need the Pro version, and anyway you have a week to check it out first. This has saved me many, many hnours to hard typing!
Sloppy documentation, inscrutable error messages
App doesn’t work on the several devices I’ve tried, and the developer’s documentation—accessed from inside the app—is vague about its limitations. Error messages just say “couldn’t process the file”, with zero indication of why (device strength, file format, audio encoding, file size, etc.). It’s possible this is great under the hood, but when the hood is krazyglued shut it’s pretty hard to tell.
