It’s Ableton what can you say
Amazing app to compliment the desktop version. Love sketching ideas and opening them up in the studio!
Constantly annoyed by additional paid download
I bought note years ago and they have slowly improved it over time. Until they added a new device, which they charge for: no problem, I just won’t use it. BUT IT IS CONSTANTLY ADDING IT TO MY SETS in a trial capacity, without the ability to adjust the sound. Please add a preference to not include devices I don’t own - even if you do there are already sets which are tainted.
I would like to give it 5 stars
It has the most amazing workflow for recording your jams. 10/5 stars for that, do not ever change this, it’s perfect. Loading samples though it’s at the other end of the scale. Even recording to pad is unnecessarily complex. Just takes too much time. We need drag and drop from playable list in the folder. Please please
Sample on iPhone SE
Hi I don’t know where the sampler application is it’s not there for me?
The Innovative Solution
Very useful app for making a bank of found sounds on the go . It’s a very powerful tool / companion too Ableton Live Suite and because of its usability and simplistic nature it’s always available in your hand . I started on this on the week of its release and have seen it grow and change into what we have now . Pro :The cloud is great and uploading too it is very easy. Con : there is some hidden changes too the important aspects of Simpler as it doesn’t load in the same format. Pro: it has the ability to capture audio straight into each drum rack pad with some rudimentary edit and manipulation functionality. Con: as of yet there is no 32but float function which can make it challenging too monitor and record in real time .Pro: there’s a grid with quantise and nudge functions etc . Con : it’s a bit fiddly to get into could do with a latch /gate function on a single button for quick editing so you can monitor the other sounds and output while making changes. Pro : there’s a mixer that utilises touch strips and allows for gain structure. Con. It’s a challenge too see the level of multi touch fader movements on smaller phones while editing. I rate this app a solid 8/10 . For where it’s currently at with a few more granular and spectral functions and some au integration it will be a great daw on your phone . Well done and Thank you . Too everyone at Ableton excited and inspired for what you do next 🙏👏
Disappointing update to pad layout
Hope its a bug. Displaying larger range of notes on pad has ruined how I use the app. Less accessible now that there are too many buttons on the pad closer together. Hope they at least provide an option to get back to the old pad layout
An ongoing note user
Please add the ability to change pitch or tempo of samples recorded, it would be pretty sweet to get everything in sync. So far I’m enjoying the latest beta
Bluetooth audio too laggy
The concept is great, but it’s crippled by the latency of Bluetooth audio. Very disappointing musical experience, purely because of the lag. Only buy this for devices that have a wired headphone jack.
Please simple Sidechain to kick
Everything is amazing but I'd love a simple kick sidechain please I beg you
Ableton live lite license should be advertised more
Only got this app for the live lite license. So good for learning/deciding if you want ableton for cheap
Good only for iPhones
There should be two versions of this app: one for iOS and one for iPadOS. It works fine on an iPhone but not on an iPad Pro. Apple is focusing a lot on Logic Pro for iPad, and I'm worried Ableton might miss this chance.
Worth getting an iPhone for.
Bravo.
Huge keys are a problem for playing any synths
Love lots about this app. Please please develop a better keyboard - impossible to play such huge keys! Cheers
Almost A Great App - Please add a step sequencer
Overall quite an inspiring piece of software. When in the right scenario (i.e when you can use the speakers or have a headphone adapter handy) it can be quite an intuitive experience getting sketches/ideas down. My biggest gripe is the fact there is no step sequencing option. In 2024 99% of people who use an iphone use wireless headphones due to there being no headphone jack, resulting in a delay in sound. I’m a bit flabbergasted that the developers have not really taken this into account, despite recently releasing compatible hardware that can step sequence (Ableton Move). I was under the impression that the whole point of this app is being able to write music anywhere. Unfortunately due to this oversight I don’t think that is the case. I find using alternative apps like Drambo a much better tool as it has a flexible step sequencer so you don’t have to rely on finger drumming/audio being out of sync. Hopefully this will change in a future update, if/when it does I feel this app will be a significantly more useful tool.
Great app!
Really liking the slicer. Is it possible for you to add the arpeggiator to the drum rack? This will allow more creative ways to play back slices. There is a work around where you can copy a clip from an arpeggio made in a synth instrument into the drum rack, but I would like to see this implemented. Great work with the app!
Not like Live at all
This app is not useful for anyone with a loop based workflow. It would be so easy to add a mini session view with warping loops but you aren’t doing it. And midi is so painful with no piano roll. Apple keep censoring and blocking my reviews, let’s see if that happens again.
Good but needs more midi mapping
Needs more mapping options or support for midi controllers
This is a lot less seamless than I was expecting it to be
Promoters all over the Internet are going on and on about how seamless this works with note. I’ve even heard the move referred to as the push to Ableton, as the move is to note. That Hass to be the over exaggeration of the century these two platforms indeed have their strong points but they do not work in conjunction with one another you literally have to do you work upload it download it do you work on a different platform of low to download it and then do you work on your original platform. Talk about interrupting the creative flow like what is this? Honestly why cant the Move act as the push does to live with note? In real time and acting as a pad stores, and allowing you to change settings of note on your move? I feel ripped off. I’ve had this thing for over three months. I was thinking I’m gonna learn this. It’s gonna get good it’s gonna get good. It’s so simple. There is nothingThat anyone needs from the move if you have Ableton Note. When I go to Ableton Note and I go to Mary settings on my Arturia Midi gear shows up in the list.Having a push like version for cheaper for the note dj W is a great idea and you guys try to make it sound like that’s what the move is but the movies not that so I don’t know. As I read this I keep removing stars from my review I’m just like baffled. Can somebody from Ableton send me an email and show me how to make the move into notes, sidecar basically? And allow real time changes just as a midi controller word.Because after hearing all this hype, and how satisfied everybody is that there’s a little tiny pad box that does literally lets you do nothing but let you manipulate a few presets… that’s why I was saying, a much cheaper and a real time, solutionIs to go out and buy the Arturia mini lab three,Use it as your midi controller, and program the cc of your knobs & faders & pads on minilab,That way you have a real time midi controller that can actually control ableton note which I have to admit is getting much better than when I first downloaded it like four years ago or whatever it was. Can someone tell me what I’m missing? Why is move good? What does it do that my mini lab three can’t? (I also have a move but it is far from seemless…)
Freezing clips, XY controller, editing/drawing/copying automation
and other things that would rule if available
Best app on store
This is hands down the best music app on the store. You can quickly prototype tracks no matter where you are in the world. It's insane how capable this little thing is. You can sample straight from the microphone into the app including lofi recording of iPhone audio that's playing. It's so beautifully ugly. There's a little synth in it. You can record yourself twiddling the controls for automation. You can set the key to limit yourself to. It has all the sounds you need to make a song right there then you can export it to Ableton as easy as sneezing. I'm not kidding this thing is amazing.
Only able to have 2 effects and no compression
Seems like there’s no compression and instruments are limited to two effects each.
Good groovebox
It’s a nice little groovebox that can sequence rudimentary beats and allows for multitrack recording in both midi and audio. I feel for this to live up to the brand and function though, we absolutely need the midi scroll. Having a midi scroll is necessary for most purposes. For example, when using a groovebox you may want to play in another track or create the loop to jam, or compose, along to. It is a very user friendly application but a midi scroll would increase this tenfold.
Bluetooth headphone - crazy latency
Unusable for me, the latency is too crazy, sounds right through the phone speaker but headphones is a no go. Shame I wasted cash on it.
It’s a good note pad for ideas
And has pretty good functionality for the price. I would really like to see better midi controller support. My launchpad pro should be able to control more. Most of its functionality is lost, which is frustrating. 5 stars if this is fixed.
Loading samples
Hi Ableton first I honour your musical technology is clearly the best there is and it’s amazing I have one small problem with recent update loading samples I’m a drums a bass producer and hold thousands of samples and recently I have had issues loading the folder to access samples stored on my phone please may you take a look into this guys Thankyou so much
Mic doesn’t work
Install didn’t request permission to use mic so can’t record. Pointless, so tried reinstalling but broken app wouldn’t uninstall. Can’t reinstall “over” it.
Sequencing
Amazing app! Although I would love a step sequencer for drums and synths! It can be a pain to tap/hold notes to creat in loopy/hypnotic techno synth sequences.
No similarity to Live. Terrible note editing. Renders Bluetooth pointless.
To be fair, this isn’t marketed as an equivalent to Ableton Live - however even when taking this into account, I’m amazed how little resemblance this has to Live. The midi / note editing functions are just awful. Ableton could, and should, do so much better than this (especially now that Logic Pro for iPad is available). Kudos on the development of Push 3, honestly, but please now come and spend some time on this poor relation to Live.
Seems neat, but...
I find that the primary method of producing in this app, that being playing in your track live is impractical. Considering most phones now lack a headphone jack, I find myself mainly using GarageBand as a notepad and just re inputting everything into live manually. I can't see this app being used in any scenario where either just bringing a laptop or using other mobile DAWs is more convenient. All the app would need is a standard track view like Live or Garage Band and a midi grid editor. That alone would cut my workflow in half.
Excellent app, but PLEASE add some sidechain functionality!
I wouldn’t need to use any other iOS app to make music, if only this had a proper sidechain effect or function. I really need that and don’t fancy moving to my Mac to finish songs, which I know is supposedly the idea here, but it’s not what I want to do. Lots of apps have more detailed functionality, and it would be even more amazing if you allowed Audiobus or an inter app connectivity type of functionality, so you can use other plugins, or apps within this one, or route the audio output of this app, to AUM or something if you won’t add sidechain. There’s no excuse not to add these features now, so please do it. It will be THE BEST iOS music making tool if you do.
total let down
This app was a missed opportunity for Ableton. Everything is very basic and only caters to a narrow band of creation styles.
Great but….
I have been using Note since it first released and I really love it. Just having a stripped down music making app really focuses the old noggin. However every time I use Note I get frustrated by 2 things. 1. No Gridlines on the note editing section of the instrument view. 2. Can’t copy and paste a selection of notes to the same track or another track. I get that this is a super light sketchpad for starting tunes that you will hopefully one day finish off in full Ableton Live, so I don’t expect the whole Live feature set. But it’s frustrating to see new features added that seem like extra fluff, while genuinely useful improvements are being ignored.
Too short
Not enough bars to make a full length song. Otherwise, it’s good but it’s not enough to make an ACTUAL song. This isn’t very good, please fix.
Good app but missing critical feature
The app is quite nice, but I find it quite annoying that i can't draw notes into the clip manually, everything has to be played in which is made more difficult given the timing delay of Bluetooth headphones. There is a warning about Bluetooth and delay, but bluetooth headphones are typically what I am using on the go, the main usecase for this app. Being able to draw notes in on the grid would go a long way to mitigating this. Otherwise the UI is really nice and the app functions/ sounds great!
This app changed how I make music
I never usually write reviews but this app really has given me that much fun and motivation to make new music that I had to. Such a unique way to mess around with on the go, in bed all over the place. Can’t recommend it enough especially with how easy it is to transfer over to ableton on PC. Buy this now and have fun getting creative 🙏
Possibly the worst user interface ever on an app
The recording is super annoying, zero editing to be done, there’s quantisation but you can’t move anything about so if it’s off you have to re record. The play and record function is super annoying, if you don’t press the keep recording it disappears. Grid sequencing would’ve been a lot better. Also the sounds aren’t all that. Get Auxy if you want an app that can deliver really good sketches to bring into your daw. Honestly, how do people have jobs and keep them?
Yes looking forward to see it develop
Love it, I’ve been waiting for this for so many years. to be able to capture you vibe where-ever you are and then seamlessly just carry on later in live I use a small midi controller with note so I’m missing things like midi start stop, capture, clip and scene switching midi functions (midi learn) and control automation (device knob control)it would be so much faster to get an idea down, a sketch Also some kind of level meter on the clips page for each track would be nice I’d be so happy with all that
No Step Sequencer
Good start but without a step sequencer not a very practical mobile app due to latency with Bluetooth headphones. Look forward to future updates.
Great app, BUT no audio when using AirPods…
Love this app. It’s a great “note”pad for quickly jotting down musical ideas to expand on when you’re back at the studio. However, I haven’t been able to use it because I frequently travel on public transport and I can’t get it to play any audio through my AirPods. I’ve tried un/re-pairing my headphones, restarting the phone, closing all apps, etc. I’m pretty tech savvy so I’m confident that I’ve tried everything possible and scoured the settings to see if the solution might be there. Unfortunately, it seems that Ableton Note just doesn’t work with AirPods; which is a shame since - being an iOS app - I’m sure a significant portion of users will be using AirPods.
Best app for making music imo
Love the ease and simplicity of this app, import sounds amazing feature A lot of the preloaded kits are already really decent
Save your money
Meh. Not there yet. Needs to be… more fun to use.
Beautiful addition to the ableton world
The simple interface makes throwing down ideas relatively easy, if you can play what you are imagining that is, although there is no step sequencer as of yet you can still quantise and nudge your midi around to tighten it up so you don’t have to have master timing. Its really seems to have been improved upon very quickly, even since Ive had it for the last couple of months. I really look forward to see how it develops, and would be happy to pay extras for certain additions and he same way koala has when they launch major updates. I’m fully invested in the ableton ecosystem, for me it is simple and intuitive and it doesn’t overload they eyes with information. But saying that, I’ve just bought the push standalone after dabbling with the push 2 for a few months, it’s an amazing price of kit. But I have had imaginings of a touchscreen app which can integrate and provide another layer of visual feedback, assist with moving audio around and also help with arranging. Because of the motions used with touch screens i imagined it to be called “Pull” for push , haha It would really compete against the likes of the Akai force and would most likely be purchased by any push standalone user as who doesn’t have a mobile touchscreen device these days. Anyhow, I look forward to see what’s on the horizon and also start to explore live 12 when it arrives. Thanks
Looks good for a start but. . . .
But AUV3 hosting is a must. And Audiobus as well so it can talk with the rest of the amazing iOS music app community. No midi in/out, no audio clips? Plus I t would be nice if I could use my push controller.
Great idea…
Great concept, I really enjoy this app. But there are some key missing functions for my workflow. Need better sampler options like sample chopping, really need audio tracks, send/return tracks to free up track fx slots. Love this app but it’s clearly nowhere near its full potential. I love the simplicity and how fast it is to get an idea out. But it only works for certain workflows and therefore certain genres. Not expecting a full blown iPhone DAW, but would love to see this become more versatile as a musical notepad!
Great Ableton mobile port
This is really good. I don’t usually leave reviews, but I felt compelled to say a thank you to the developers. They’ve managed to cram a lot of Ableton’s basic features in a small package, and it feels very intuitive. I can imagine people crafting full albums in this thing with enough time and dedication. It’s incredible to think how far technology has come when you compare this to an old Akai sampler back in the day.
Severely lacking and cumbersome.
Layout of the app is strange, it's difficult to get confortable with and cumbersome to use. It's missing must-have things like a piano roll to build chords with and clips that contain those chords which can be laid out in a traditional fashion like in ableton's arrangement view. Not having these things (things that app store competitors have) are deal breakers for an app like this. There is no compressor and no way to sidechain too. This is also a major letdown and turn-off. Overall I don't recommend this app. In its current form there are far superior apps in the app store to use for mobile sketching/notes/ideas. Will definitely update my rating if this app is improved and the glaring omissions are added later on but for right now with these things missing the competition is just so far ahead to the point that this app is redundant.
Note is an outstanding start
Wow. What a stunning user interface and an intelligent selection of some of Ableton’s greatest sounds. However, the step sequencer is desperately needed. Once that arrives Ableton Note will be an absolute weapon. File management’s clunky too. I’d happily pay a monthly subscription for faster development and unlimited file sync.
No step sequencer
Audio lag on Bluetooth makes finger drumming hard. Not good for mobile use. Really needs a step sequencer. Lots of free apps with more functionality.
Needs more features to catch up to GarageBand
Ableton Note is missing a lot of features that are available on GarageBand on the iPad. It does not support midi controllers. Notes can only be captured by pressing pads on the screen and can’t be entered into an existing capture. This app will need to add a lot of features to catch up to GarageBand.
