What people like
- Shows great trivia about songs and artists
- Beautiful display for music playing on TV
- Developer is responsive and fixes bugs fast
What they complain about
- Screen brightness jumps to max unexpectedly
- App crashes constantly or stops working
- Subscription charges are confusing and unfair
Love it
Nice app for gigs
Awesome when it works, but the problem is…
This is a great app when it works. The problem is it doesn’t work more times it does work. I usually use the song display and it’s forever searching. I really want to use this app, but I can’t depend on it
Great app
I love using this app to display the track when playing a vinyl record. I just wish there was an option to see the lyrics to a track when using the music display mode.
Listening function stopped working
I used to use the listening function to identify songs. This function doesn’t work anymore. It just opens the settings for the app. I already have all the permissions allowed in settings but the listen function isn’t working anymore. Please fix this issue.
Chinese version
we have a large amount of demand of this app！
Not gôd anymore
I loved it when it worked
Adds to Music Listening
Appreciate the developer's efforts in improving the app.
Crashes more than it works
App started out good but now crashes on every use. Never works when I click to get more information. I really want to like this app and might go back to liking it after the bugs are fixed on, hopefully, future updates.
What am I missing here?
This app has one main purpose as I see it, and that is to improve the display of the song currently playing on your device. Only… that’s not what it does. Sure, you can start up the app and choose Now Playing and see a pretty cool view of the song that is now playing. But when the song changes, this app doesn’t seem to be aware that a different song is “now playing.” You have to terminate this app and restart it so that the currently playing song is shown onscreen. I know this can’t be the intended design so is this maybe a bug? Whatever it is I hope it’s fixed right quick because the app in its current state is useless. Incidentally this issue is present for every device I’ve tried so far, from iPhone to iPad to Apple TV.
Great app
Great app does everything it should..
Doesn't work
I bought this on the strength of an Apple News article and app store reviews. But it just doesn't work, and I have tried for weeks. Perpetual ‘searching for music’. Waste of money. Luckily only £9.99.
Beautiful and compelling
The app does everything exactly as advertised and is really well done.
Crashes on launch
Needs to be fixed, otherwise useful when it worked .
Works off and on
When it works, it works well. Access to microphone is allowed. After trying several times, it works sporadically. It will stop listening by itself, or it decides to listen and work. Would be nice if lyrics came up automatically when the song does, instead of having to navigate to lyrics.
Vinyl, CD, and Digital Scrobbling
All of my music listening habits are tracked using the apps’ feature called SongDisplay, which uses Shazaam to identify the song then tracks your habits in Last.fm. This app does more than you can ask for and it does it well. I have not used many other features because I was searching for a way to track my vinyl listening habits on a digital platform.
Monthly subscription is not an option
I wanted to test it out for a month. Even though the subscription options in the app show a monthly option, a user cannot proceed to select and pay for the app that way. Only the annual option or lifetime option are active. This technical disconnect between what’s displayed versus what works doesn’t give me a lot of confidence.
Very informative and useful
This is a much, much better alternative to Genius, which I was using before. I love finding out trivia about songs, albums and artists and Nowplaying present the information in a clean informative way. There are some issues – the app resets from whichever page you’re on when you switch to another app, and many source links show as garbled URLs. I hope it keeps getting worked on and improved. Also, to the devs - I’d recommend a name change! Searching for Nowplaying, it’s buried deep below many other apps.
Can’t figure out how to get the full screen display set up
App works as stated, finding and letting you know the song playing (just like Shazam), however, I downloaded the app to have use as a display for the music playing in the room. I cannot figure out how to get the full screen display shown in the snap shots.
Widget falla
Nice app.
If you are looking for the ‘behind the scenes’ info about a track or artist that Shazam lacks, you probably would enjoy this app. The developer is responsive and actively maintaining/improving the app. Another gem of this app is the Display feature, especially on an iPad and optionally mirroring to an Apple TV. This is quite nice if you listen to Internet radio streams that don’t have metadata, as it provides continuously updated track/artist info of what is currently playing.
Purchased app
And then he makes it free
Extra information? Where is it?
And I see no widget…
Compatibility with older iPads
At the moment the app requires iOS 17, but ideally we would like to run the app full time on deprecated hardware rather than on new devices. Any possibility of enabling the AppStore to allow downloads of previous versions?
Shazam is way better and faster
Played 2 songs and never found even the title…. Whatever glad it was free
Good Idea
Occasionally delivers wrong result but I guess that is probably at Shazam's door. Biggest “complaint” is that there is a lot of wasted screen space on ipad screens. In non expanded mode it probably only utilises 30% of the screen. No portrait mode either. It’s all about nice presentation, lets make the artwork bigger.
music app i didn't realize i needed
this is so nice for setting up on an idle extra ipad an leave it running catching any audio everywhere automatically in a way that feels much more natural than shazam or other "look up current playing track info" app.
App crashes
Unable to use as app immediately crashes.
Can’t get rid of prompt for Gold
Love the app and paid for Gold straight away, yet get prompted to enable gold every time I press more info. Getting to be so annoying as to be a deal breaker. If I’ve already paid I shouldn’t be getting promoted all the time.
Buggy
Limited information. Unlike Shazam, one can’t use this app to identify a song playing on the same device it’s running on.
Great but room for improvement
Generally great but some big errors, such as listening to the album Heroes by David Bowie and according to the app, the music heralds from a live recording. More work needs to be done on matching up the music.
No lyrics no support for gold dimming problem
Potential but looks like a mess on my uphone14promax foo foo. Lack of support is a no no in my book.
Trivia is fake
Trivia part is nonexistent, unless you probably pay
Really cool app with lots of features
Lots of features crammed into this song identifier app. Really slick interface. Not sure if I would pay for the "gold" subscription personally, but it looks to be good value for the money if you use the app a lot.
7-Day Gold Trial Scam
The app says you can sign up for Gold for 7 days before paying for it. Somehow I was charged for a lifetime gold membership which Apple won’t refund. The gold membership isn’t worth it in my opinion.
This app needs to be fixed
Every time I search for a song just before it finds this song or right after it finds a song or write as it finds this song, it will brighten the screen up to all the way up brightness and I have my brightness really low if not all the way down to zero because this is a bug that you need to fix and my auto brightness on my phone is off so it’s clearly an option in the app that’s turned off by the fall and you can’t turn it off or it’s a bug because this is insane it should be happening. This has never happened before this needs to be fixed as soon as possible. I’m serious it’s very annoying and I am getting really fed up with this app because it hasn’t done this before you need to fix this bug.
Features have been taken away
When I downloaded the app, I was able to put the app into an always listening mode, and see my history. That’s been taken away behind a £22 subscription. I wasn’t aware that there was any sort of trial period
