OMG i hate subscriptions but this uncovered so much and I trust consumer reports

This is seriously a hidden surprise and gem. Maybe once or twice a year I'd subscribe

I expected better

If you use more than one email don’t waste your time. Any of the data aggregators such as Lexus Nexus, just simply reject the request saying they need more info or you have to reply to an email to confirm it’s you or just simply deny the request. Tracking what the app has done and what did work is confusing. And the gotcha is the number of specific requests is limited. I think you may have to pay for additional requests above the quota? Not sure on that. Overall just a bad experience with the app. But give it a trial effort like I did and don’t renew if you are unsatisfied.

Thanks Consumer Reports

I’m surprised at the depth of the information shared by companies I have no knowledge of or business with. It’s my turn to check these companies out.

Will not stay logged in

A good effort but seems worse over time. Every time I open the app I’m logged out. I use “Sign in with Apple” and suspect they don’t like this, or possibly some tracking protection on my network. Either way it’s a poor experience. And as others have said, if you use multiple address or email addresses you must expose them all in every request. Not great.

Ambitious but Clunky

TLDR: Great intentions, clumsy execution. Not totally useless, but not worth the $60 subscription price. I have had some minor successes using Permission Slip, but unfortunately it falls short of what's intended in today's cavalier regulatory environment. The majority of our hundreds of requests had no response (understandable, not Permission Slip's fault, our flaccid congress hasn't any spine to stand up to write or give teeth enforce any laws here). Another minority of requests came back successfully acknowledged and acted upon (great). Another large minority came back with 'action required' in the app, which almost always means 'X sleazy data grubber has acknowledged the request and has sent you a sketchy, vague email that definitely went to your spam email inbox a month ago and has an expired link that you were supposed to click on to acknowledge this reasonable opt out request.' One or two of these is one thing, 80+ "action required" statuses like that is just impossible. Sorry, Permission Slip is just unable to do this and thus fails to really achieve its stated goals. Idk that it's worth it anymore in a world where any corporate overlord can mug you for data and no one is going to do anything about it. There is no power to enforce here, these companies need to be sued for *TRILLIONS* of dollars and their management jailed 25 to life. Maybe then we would finally see change here, until then I'm not paying for this app.

Consumer Reports Recommended

I love the concepts of these types of data privacy apps. My issue is who may be on the other end. Are they selling a bill of goods? Are they truthful and reliable? I’m willing to give a CR recommended app the benefit of the doubt.

DeleteMe takes you hostage

When I got the notification that the app was being bought out by deleteme, I didn’t want my data transferred to yet another entity, so I deleted my account. DeleteMe then contacted every data broker I’d filed requests with, years before, to tell them to cancel my deletion requests, and giving them back my information. Absolute malicious app.

Unable to report a company

Great idea, but I question if it will really work. Looking to request that they add a data broker that they are missing. I am able to fill out the form, but the app will not let me submit it.

Not life changing

I thought the entire premise would be that the app would do all the work for you. Not the case in over 95 percent of companies listed that I have accounts with right now. If you would like to opt out, here is a link. Now go do what the app said it would do.

Over charged

It said this was $59.99. I was charged $68.88. I cannot talk to anyone about this extra charge We have been working on this. The permission Slip people have worked to help me find the answer that they did not charge more than the $59.99. I paid with Apple Pay and they sent me a statement that included other subscriptions but did not list them. I thought it was all charged by PS. This is a good company to deal with.

★★☆☆☆ United States · v2.0.6 · 20 Oct 2024

Kind of disappointing

This is a great concept. Execution leaves much to be desired. I was able to send out a handful of requests before it ran out of suggestions. Two granted, one denied, the rest perpetually “under review”. Neither great nor awful, but there’s no way I would pay $60 per year or $20 per month(!) for the “plus” version after the lackluster performance of the base version.

Doesn’t seem to do anything

I am all for the the idea of this app. I have previously sent several requests manually to companies, and would love to have something that makes the process easier. However the app’s requests don’t seem to work. I had sent in multiple requests several months ago, of which one was successful, two got responses from the company for more info, and the rest are in infinite pending limbo. Compare this to manual requests which get responses within a day. I’d love it if it worked but so far it seems like placebo.

Legit works

They are an independent and nonprofit they only ask for donations. They also went through the time to go through the terms and conditions of these companies, so you know exactly what data can be collected from you. I know it works because occasionally I get a reply email from whatever company had my data!

Basically useless

If you live in a state that doesn’t have the laws saying they have to remove your data and stop selling it upon your request, they will refuse to comply and most states do not have this law. Waste of money.

Does this app do anything?

Notes and Multiple email addresses problem

Great idea but - could/should help keep track of which companies I’ve requested to opt-out from. Can't be totally automated I realize if I opt-out via a website but a notes area or a button to indicate I've done the web form on X date would help my memory - I second the reviewer who points out that sending a bundle of my email addresses together is actually the opposite of helpful if (when) the receiver combines the addresses into one identity. The solution seems simple though: Send each address independently, as if a separate person is sending, rather than "bundled" as a single request.

Great product, but one odd thing

I enjoyed this app/service, and the fact that there’s no charge makes it a great place to start taking back some of your privacy. One odd thing I just noticed: I got a feedback request email from the app. When I clicked to give feedback, it took me to a Google Docs form. Google? I mean, data mining is kind of a thing everywhere, but isn’t the purpose of this app to encourage people to remove their data from organizations that have less than stellar privacy protections?

They sell your data

One would think a data privacy app would respect your data privacy. Read the privacy policy. They give your data to marketing companies and other assorted data collectors. I suspect they do rather well because who would suspect a data privacy app?

— Wise-Orphan

★★☆☆☆ United States · v1.2.2 · 21 Jan 2024

It’s buggy and partially useful

The interface is buggy. When it sent me a six digit code for confirming my phone number, I made a mistake typing the first few digits, and I could not backspace and retype it. when it asked me to enter my address for sending to the company I wanted to stop tracking me, the address entry interface froze on my iPhone, and I could not go any further, specifically when I selected my state from the dropdown list. I had to force quit the app. Happened twice before I gave up. I have one of the most popular phones in the world, an iPhone 14 with all the software fully updated. And the usefulness is questionable: I currently have a Netflix account, and the only option was fully delete my account, which of course I don’t want to do. Hopefully the app gets less buggy and more useful over time.

Not so good

Seems to be a waste of time. Every vendor I select, the program wants me to join the “Plus” side of Permission Slip ($59.00 annually). If you don’t join, it tells you to make a manual request yourself. Doesn’t seem to do anything. Developer response doesn’t change my assessment of this app - still not so good. Only confirmed my assessment. This app does NOTHING!

★★★☆☆ United States · v1.3.0 · 29 Jan 2024

Good but fatal flaw

Great idea for a tool to help consumers manage their personal data. The fatal flaw, however, is providing your email addresses, one time, up front, which Permission Slip uses to send one request per email to each company you choose. I use Apple Hide My Email to create a different email for each company, making it impractical to enter many emails up front. Second, it provides any one company with a compendium of your emails that can then be cross-referenced in a profile. The fix is easy … change Permission Slip to where you only enter relevant email(s) for that vendor. Maybe there’s a primary email entered up front, however, give the user the ability to override it, as well as add any others.

Not working even cannot log in , no help with login and glitch

I wish I can somehow get refund , biggest problem is there is no help to just log in. My screen stuck at making account as new user. I do not even see log in screen. I also did not get help with password or log in ( reset) This glitch ( cannot get to log in screen ever no matter what I do ) not resolved and there is no help ( just email and they do not help) I regret paying for app I cannot even log in. Worst app I ever used No web version either. I delete redownloaded app. Still only shows new registration page and cannot get out of this page no matter what I do!!

Disappointing

It worked as advertised for a variety of small companies (at least I hope it did). But for the three biggies — Amazon, Google, and Facebook — the app suggested I take care of it myself. It did give step-by-step instructions for each one, but unless I misunderstood something, the only options were (1) download my data from them, and (2) delete my account. (1 )doesn’t help, and I don’t want to do (2). What I want is to tell them Don’t collect my data and Don’t sell it. Is that possible?

APP requires choosing each co. individually.

I expected to be able to set one request and have CR take care of the rest for $59.99 per year. Not so, you have go through what looks like hundreds of companies if not more than 1000 one by one.
