The Best
Extremely useful app. Everyone must have it.
No more updates
I don’t know why the developer stopped doing updates and deleted his socials. It’s such a great app and still could’ve find something better.
Good enough but…
Would be great if it had Siri, calendar and reminder app integration or at the very least calendar integration having to do duplicate entries makes this app annoying to use.
No response from dev, backup broker
Love this little app and have been subscribed for a few years. But the dev hasn't responded to my email sent many months ago regarding a backup bug. Backing up hasn't worked since day 1. Will cancel this subscription since it looks like it's no longer under development.
Abandoned?
I was super excited to use and support this app when it was released. I’ve had a Plus account from day one. But at this point, there hasn’t been a single update in a year, the website still says the app is being released soon, the developer has disappeared from social media and has never responded to me after several attempts to reach out. The app still works, so I’m happy about that, but it sucks to be paying for an app that has been abandoned, with no way of contacting the developer for support. My subscription ends in June and I won’t be renewing. You can’t have an ongoing subscription model and abandon your users! A major reason devs switch to or offer subscription models is so they can continue development!
Just so delightful
This is such a fun app that allows my family to look ahead at all what’s coming. Just a delight to use
Was great but abandoned
Sad to see support and maintenance has been absent for a year now. I used to pay a monthly sub for this and it has a great design
Great, but recurring events are buggy
I enjoy this app quite a bit, but have noticed that recurring events don’t actually show up once passed unless you kill and reopen the app. Although there’s an “email” item in the help section it doesn’t actually do anything, so no other way of notifying the developer.
really cool app, but 3 events isn't enough
for free you can only have 3 events which is way too little especially for somebody who doesn't want to pay a subscription. would be nicer to have way more
Good countdown app that has been abandoned
Update on 11/25/2025: While this is a good app, it can’t justify requiring a subscription. While updates were frequent at first, it’s been over a year since the app was last updated. That’s fine for an app you pay for once, is fully featured, and just works. It’s not fine for an app asking to be paid for monthly or yearly. There’s also the one time payment option of $29.99. The app is good. It’s not $30 good. Original Review: I’ve been looking for a great countdown app for a while. So many have inelegant UI or don’t function the way I would like. Up Ahead to the rescue! This app looks and works great. I like the layout and how you can see the number of days between countdowns. Being able to choose custom patterns for each countdown is a nice touch. The only issue I have is being able to bring myself to paying monthly, yearly, or such a high lifetime price for a countdown app. I use it as a nice to have, but not a necessity. While I can justify paying for a finance app or even a Twitter app, I have a hard time justifying paying a subscription for a countdown app. It’s possible that I might change my mind as the app is updated, but as of right now, I’ll remain a free user.
Amazing app
So fun, get the premium, so cheep, so much fun
Simplest thing doesn’t work
Never would update my lock screen to show the new event widget.
One of the great calendar apps.
Beautifully designed and the widgets are perfect for keeping track of upcoming events. If you could add calendar events from it, it would be even better. If it could sync between iOS and MacOS, it would be a six star app. ✨🤘✨
Kinda limited
Unless you want to pay a subscription it’s pretty much useless. Honestly it’s a reminder app. Not worth a monthly sub IMHO
Development Paused?
Has development of this app stopped? Sound effects have stopped working for me in Up Ahead. But I see there have been no updates in the past six months.
👍
👍
No Calendar integration
Doesn't sync with Calendars, which seems like a gigantic oversight, as the thought would be to create two of the same event if you wanted it in your calendar but also in the admittedly beautiful Up Ahead.
Love the iOS but needs iCloud sync
Favorite app on iOS, but trying to use it as a macOS widget is tough only because the data doesn't sync from the cloud. I have to do a manual backup in the iOS app and then a restore from backup on the macOS widget every time I update something from my phone....making it more cumbersome than helpful. Any plans to change this in the future?
I’m a lifetime subscriber, and there needs to be an iPad app.
Calendar integration needed
Good idea but unless selecting events from Calendars is available, hard to rate 5 stars. Being able to add things from Reminders and other task managers would be a good feature too. Also, we should be able to set Monday as starting square for grid widget, currently it’s disorienting. Plus, Streaks App suggests icons automatically based on the title, same feature would be good. Subscribed for a year, could purchase lifetime if these were available. Design is very good.
Excellent!
Does exactly what it promises and does it so well. Design is on point, fun, and engaging. 100% worth trying out if it seems even mildly interesting.
Pay to have a widget but you can’t get backgrounds
You have to pay to add the widget to your screen ($1.99/month, reoccurring or do the monthly option or the one time fee ($29)). I figured why not it’s only $1.99 to try it. Doesn’t even have basic icons like legal/law related. And you can only get one background besides plain which is an ugly summer one. You have to “unlock” the other backgrounds aka patterns by using the app more. So to be clear, you pay to put the widget on your home screen and can’t even unlock the backgrounds. Waste of time. Also it’s not as aesthetic as people are saying. You get 6 boring colors without the options for text design, photos or any other type of design. So don’t waste your time and your money like I did.
Wonderful
Beautifully-designed app; the best I've ever used for tracking important life events. It would be great to be able to set repeating events to automatically adjust to a Friday if they land on a weekend (pay days, for example) 🙂
Subscription but no updates??
An OK timer countdown but sometimes a bit too cute for it's own good. Subscritions for an app are fine - but if there are no updates for almost a year then it's not so good.
up ahead is a GREAT app
which makes it sad that its only subscription based only. If its base features were free, or it was one-time purchase, it would be way more acessible and therefore way more popular, since it is really useful but not enough to be worth paying mounthly
Absolutely beautiful and simple
It does exactly what I need and is straightforward and not cluttered. I love how you can unlock different patterns depending on what the event is you create, but also progressively unlock patterns. Would recommend for anyone!
Greedy
Charging any amount of money monthly for a simple countdown app is ludicrous. They have arbitrarily locked the ability to see multiple countdowns on the Lock Screen behind their monthly paywall. I would actually pay a one time purchase, but never a subscription for something so small. I’ve deleted the app.
I like it
But not all events are adding the reminder I set?
Beautiful but extremely limited without paying
Only 3 events allowed on free version
Great design but no sharing sync
Great design, intuitive interface. But there isn’t a way to share events with other app users. I want to be able share events with my family. I want to see things they add. If this is available then I’d consider subscribing. Otherwise it’s too expensive for an experience that can’t be shared.
Great Quick Look calendar
As I’ve slowly gotten used to using this schedule app, I’ve found it is a great quick “up next” view, as well as counting down the days to an event.
Terrific design and feel, missing two things I want
I love using this app, but I am using it wrong: I want to keep track of dates in the past, not upcoming ones. Happily, the app does a good job of showing those too… but I’d like to be reminded periodically of anniversaries of those dates, and maybe have a widget that shows me some nearby milestone for today (“six months ago: thing” or “on this day in 2021: other thing”). Currently, it doesn’t do either of those things (which is reasonable! it’s not Up Behind), but everything else about it is fantastic—with those additions it would be perfect for me.
Over priced
Nice UI but super overpriced for a countdown app.
Last Updated 9 Months Ago
The app is pretty basic and does its job well. Can paid users expect any more updates or new features coming up? It’s been 9 months after all.
Best
The best app on my phone
Best count down app
This is probably the best count down app on the App Store. There hasn’t been an update in some time. I hope the developer continues to develop and support the app.
Money Grab
Amazing and sleek design, but $30 to have more than 3 reminders?! That is such a scam! I wanted to use this instead of my reminders app, but I can’t because I can only add 3 reminders. At least increase it to about 20! Disappointed.
They have an I think you should leave pattern
Very nice
iPad
IPad version please
Works well, looks good, but needs sync
I found this app as it was shared on Basic Apple Guy and featured by John Gruber at Daring Fireball. I’ve been looking for something that functions well and looks good. I really like the way new patterns can be unlocked by adding various events with keywords. While I am able to run this on my iPhone, and 15 inch MacBook Air, there does not appear to be any sort of iCloud data sync, which is unfortunate. I am able to go into my MacBook Air and the back ups area and use the restore option so that the events appear there as well as from my iPhone. Having an automatic sync would be awesome. Really hope to see this support macOS Sonoma, so that I can have widgets from Up Ahead on my desktop.
Simple, powerful, beautiful
This is an awesome and well-designed app! The interface is simple to add events and make settings changes to customize how you want them to display. After playing with this app for about a day, I could see the value in this and upgraded to the lifetime (completely worth it) for all the features. The designers made getting new backgrounds as rewards for entering certain numbers of events or events with key words (hint: if you want an anniversary reminder, use the word “wedding” to unlock the wedding background; you can always change the title after you unlock the pattern) so that makes it fun to set up initially. Kudos to the developers for making this chore less painful!! Then the recent update allows for another pattern unlock a week. Between the background patterns, colors, logos, and tags (which are new and I have yet to explore), you can customize and categorize and make your timeline look and feel how you want. 5 stars, cannot recommend this simple, powerful, and beautiful app enough!
