What people like
- Great for people without local studios
- Lots of live and on demand classes
- Workouts are intense and effective
What they complain about
- Music feature is terrible and annoying
- App crashes and buffers constantly
- Support never actually responds to emails
- Hard to cancel your subscription
Great workout anytime anywhere.
I used to do Barry’s in person classes. During Covid and after kids I started working out with Barry’s in my garage. It gives me the intensity and direction I need to get a great workout with limited space, equipment, and time. I can take it with me everywhere I go. When I travel for work or fun, I can do Barry’s in the hotel gym or anywhere I bring my bands.
Great workouts, terrible app that Barry’s has abandoned
The workouts themselves are good, but it’s painfully clear Barry’s doesn’t invest in this app. At this point, it feels more like a money grab than a serious fitness platform. There’s very little new content, and the search and filtering are awful. You can’t even search by medium or heavy weights. Classes are frequently mislabeled, so a workout that says “medium weights” may require something completely different once you actually start it. The app also crashes far too often. Worse, if it crashes during a workout, the partial class frequently doesn’t appear in your history, leaving you to somehow find the class again if you want to resume it. Even though the app supports Apple Music, the volume doesn’t work properly with the classes, so you can’t hear anything. It works with Spotify and Barry’s lame built-in streaming service, but not Apple Music. There’s also almost none of the motivation Barry’s builds into its studios. No meaningful milestones, rewards, or recognition for classes completed. More than a year ago, Barry’s promised Ride + Lift classes, and they still haven’t appeared. This could have been an amazing extension of Barry’s and a genuine competitor to Peloton. Instead, it feels like they were afraid of cannibalizing their live classes and decided to let the digital product slowly die. The workouts deserve better than this app. Until Barry’s actually invests in it, I’d recommend Peloton or another online fitness platform instead.
App is So Slow
Workouts are great and I love that there are live and on demand classes. I also recently discovered that some of the on demand classes were previously live classes that I can use for a workout which gives me more options. However, the app itself is very slow to load and it can be frustrating. When I first open the app, the Home tab takes maybe 10-15 seconds to load and show me the content. Then when I try to schedule a class, it’s slow to load when I click on the buy & book tab and the schedule is buggy. Sometimes when I scroll down the times on a specific day, it stops loading class times sometime in the afternoon. I have to fully close the app and reopen to see evening times show up as an option. I’m on a new iPhone 13 pro max and have plenty of phone capacity. So I don’t know why things on the app would be slow for me. Hopefully this improves soon.
Confusing
Want a simple app to see calendar of available classes at local gym.
Help, I’m stuck in BFE w/out a Barry’s
There are some solid workouts on the APP. I typically filter through the workouts prior to decide what is best for that day and bookmark my favs. Downside: Wish they would attach some playlist to go along with the workout we can follow along with to have music match the highs and lows of the workout. Also they need a nicer studio to record these workouts. Other than that, It’s fine. -Wayne
Bring Your Own Music
World class workouts that are comparable to the in-studio intensity if you were doing double floor. Tommy is one of the best but all of the instructors bring it. I do not typically drip with sweat doing other weight classes using other platforms. I like the interface with my music playlists.
Useless Filters and Extremely Limited Catalog
The filters don’t work. There are a bunch of classes that require weights when applying the bodyweight only filter. There isn’t a single bodyweight arm workout in the entire catalog. The only cardio workouts are running. How on earth can they charge $40/mo for such a limited selection?
Disappointed
No new content or live workouts paying 60CAD month either price it lower or produce more content
Great Instructors But Infant Execution
First, I love Barry’s. The workouts and instructors are challenging whether in person or on the app. But the tech execution leaves a lot to be desired. You cannot effectively listen to your music while listening to the instructor (bc they don’t have music rights). If no music rights then add visual cues at the bottom of the screen for run changes. Same goes for weight training! The viewing screen is small horizontal vs full screen vertical or horizontal. Without full screen how is anyone supposed to use this on their phone while in a gym. Steep app price for subpar tech execution.
The update last week👎🏻
The update last week has made it impossible to browse by class length (class time) now while browsing/ filter the half the class times are not displayed on the screen, making it impossible to select.
Won’t let me access free trial
I have never downloaded the app, never taken a class but upon trying to sign up for the 30 day free trial, it won’t let me and will only let me pick the monthly option. If there’s issues with signing up you already know it’s gonna be a hot mess. NEXT!!
Very weak class substitute
Not enough classes, low energy trainers, workouts are boring and repetitive. If the goal is to make the in person experience look 100x better, congratulations because the digital version is horrible. Better off doing peloton for 1/3 the price.
App has glitches.
That was my first 50 min workout and the video stoped every 20 sec. for first 20mins. Very annoying.
Hooked
Never enjoyed classes, now I can’t stop with Barry’s X
Will not let me cancel
I’ve been trying to cancel subscription for three months
What happened to the playlists?
New music feature is terrible, the playlists should be set by the instructors to fit the workout. Having to set music really cheapens the quality of this app and program.
Stale content
Love the classes but they rarely produce new context. Need more content!
Great App
Love the BarrysX app! However if you have iOS, I would recommend you take live classes using your web browser. On demand classes work great on the app.
App Setup Fail
App will not let me finish setting it up. I log into my account, I uploaded my photo and bio, but then the final page is blank. I’ve reset the app, redownloaded it, but still am unable to complete set up. I’ve contacted Barry’s but never hear back.
Disappointing
Really disappointed with the new update. Part of working out with an instructor is having them choose the playlist. I hated the music option Al the way through the workout. This new update is just not the same. Also, half (if not more) of the workouts are gone.
Great workouts but no Chromecast
Strength workouts are better than Peloton's but really annoying that it doesn't play through Chromecast. Means I have to use a tiny screen. If they built that functionality my review would be a 5
Barry’s-wherever you are
This app is a lifesaver if you need that Barry’s community but you aren’t in a city with Barry’s 💪. Always brings 🔥to my workout
Love Barry’s, but App is SO GLITCHY
I love the programming… I do Live Barry’s X classes… and today my app crashed FOUR TIMES during a Live class. Crashing 1-2x is normal for the app but this was absurd. I was connected to my home wifi, which I always am, and I know my wifi had service since I was on zoom/work calls all day.
Music
The running is good but all you can hear is the treadmill and breathing. Working so that participants can hear the music and use it to motivate themselves would be wonderful
Great workouts
However, I just don't love the small screen and the dark background. I've done a lot of other apps and lighting tends to be a lot better. That said, the workouts are really good, which makes up for darker environment
Booty and Abs workout
Instructor was going to quick on the transition with the long band and dumbbell set should give like 10 seconds more. And I didn’t have music working on my end since I was trying to play my Christian workout playlist on Spotify. The expert was just saying it working on his end but not mine. Tears!!! So once again I didn’t have no music. That why I haven’t been on XBarry live and just go on the past recorded video.
Love Barry’s, but this glitch is ruining the app.
I first tried Barry’sX about a month ago (free trial) and it was fantastic, even though I do miss 2 rounds instead of 1. Last week, I started a membership and every video is pausing 1 minute and 48 seconds in. I switched to my iPad, updated the app, tried a different video, found stronger Wi-Fi…anything I could think of. Wasting my money and my time. Please fix this glitch.
Very good
I like this where I go to train once per week
App Store
Why isn’t Barry’s x on the App Store?
Settings it’s not easy to sent up and find classes
I
Great app- well worth it- esp on the road
This app is fantastic- so many great instructors, and so many great classes on demand and live. Kept me in shape and motivated while traveling for work. Highly recommended. It also got me off of the couch during the pandemic- thank you Barry’s!
New Update
The recent update is highly disappointing, particularly the new music feature. Moreover, despite assurances that our favorite videos would be promptly restored, ALL of mine continue to be missing.
Only 1 set of tread + floor
I was so excited about this as a Barrys regular pre-covid. I’m not sure why all the bootcamp classes are just 1 round of tread and floor. What makes barrys workouts so effective is short sets of ea h which allows you to recover from cardio while working on strength and vice versa — my favorite classes were 3 sets of cardio and 3 sets of strength/floor, 10 min each for a crazy 60 min workout that burned 500+ calories. Having 25 min sets of each doesn’t have the same tabata effect. Please consider adding these types of classes! Until then I’ll probably stick with Peloton workouts.
I live in the Artic Circle
The internet is not great here so I’m unable to take live classes. I love the recorded classes so I can just follow along. It’s a great substitute since I miss taking class at Barry’s so much!
Extremely difficult to cancel Barry’sX membership
The only way to cancel is by emailing support. I emailed them 6 days ago, and still haven’t heard back….
Slow app, on demand classes have mediocre music
I love Barry’s, and loved Barry’s at home. Barry’s x is a phenomenal idea that needs some tweaking to keep its momentum, and provide the value it promises. The app is one of the slowest apps I’ve seen and the sound often doesn’t work (buffers). The workouts that involve running are really limited. The music on the on demand workouts is pretty bad, I would suggest paying more for licensing to better music.
