MCAT Prep by MedSchoolCoach reviews
4.8 out of 5, based on 1,302 reviews.
What people like
- Videos are clear and easy to follow
- Flashcards help with active recall
- Instructors explain things very well
- Great for reviewing on the go
What they complain about
- Nothing works without paying for premium
- Ads and paywalls block all features
- Questions have spelling errors and broken images
- App crashes when trying to buy
Flashcards are remarkable
I have been able to efficiently practice active recall with the flashcards made within the topics. I love that the flashcards are verbatim from the lectures and the questions are good quizzes for comprehension and retention. I love the app as a whole, the only thing I would change is the audio, it would be better as a voiceover because some videos I have to replay because I couldn’t hear well
Opening Issue
Bought the app and when I open it it just sends me to a different website website. Unresponsive.
So incredibly helpful that it makes a schedule for you
I wish we could download the notes and/or whiteboards because reading them on a phone isn't ideal but truly so helpful
Paywall
It seems like an absolutely amazing study tool, but the entire thing is locked behind a premium membership.
Best MCAT Content Review
This app has been the absolute best for content review. Reading books only does so much. I have enjoyed using this app in addition to the Kaplan books. The examples in the videos are wonderful. The videos are clear and concise as well.
Paywall Galore
Cannot do anything on this app without paying for premium. No practice questions, no flash cards, no lectures. Confused by free download just make people pay from start.
Only subscription
You literally cannot use this app unless you have a subscription.
Podcast by sam smith
Ever since I started listening to Sams podcast on spotify, I cant UNLISTEN it every time I am out driving - or while doing some chores . Lots of appreciation and love for these life saving podcasts covering all high yield content 🫶🏻
Fake free app
I know it doesn’t explicitly state that the app is free but when you first log in, it asks if you want to use their “premium” subscription. If you don’t go “premium” and stay as “basic”/ free, then you can’t use any part of the app
The app isn’t working
It looks promising. I am looking for additional study material for my MCAT in 28 days, BUT app isn’t working 🙃. I am trying to to purchase a subscription and the app shuts down when I try to sooo….. 👎
Thorough review of content!
Supersedes the 2k+ programs available for a MUCH more cost effective rate
False Advertising
This is not a free app as it’s advertised. You literally can’t do anything within the app unless you pay 70$ per year. If it was advertised as that, I wouldn’t have an issue, that’s a pretty reasonable price for MCAT prep. But it’s advertised as free which is annoying and makes me want to spend my money elsewhere.
everything requires the premium subscription
i just downloaded the app to get some structured studying in over winter break… it SEEMS like the app would be useful, and i wouldn’t mind paying the subscription to use it closer to my test date, as $20/month or $70/year isn’t insane, but it’s pretty misleading to present as a free study tool when everything is locked until you pay.
Overall extremely insightful and didactic app
Thank you Dr Ken Tao for putting this masterpiece together, your explanations are straight to the point and extremely accurate. Definitely the best MCAT app I’ve used
Love but now I have to pay?
Like the title. Got started and it had some good videos, loved the question of the day. Now it’s all pay for it.
Not worth the cost
I got this app because it boasted a large question bank, and there is. But it is riddled with spelling errors, references images that do not appear anywhere, and no way to flag or report errored questions. Any of the videos they offer can be found free on YouTube from other sources, so yea you’re paying for practice questions. It’s $20 per month or $60 per year. If you need to cram a month or 2 before test day this might be worth it, but get ready for frustration and a hit to your question confidence.
Amazing Content and Tutor
The content is easy to navigate with lots of great information and the tutor is magnificent!
Decent when free, but not worth it paid.
They decided to go the paid model, which I don’t mind. But I honestly wouldn’t pay for this stuff. There are so many MCAT prep course options that this one isn’t worth it. It was okayish when it was free, with the only thing of value being the videos. Since the questions weren’t good and it was always comprehension, lacking prompts and critical thinking, errors and no passages at all, which is 80% of MCAT. Overall pretty disappoint it went the paid model, but I rarely used it when it was free in the first place.
Chemical structures don’t appear
The chemical structures don’t show up in the question and answer choices so the questions don’t make sense for the organic Chem and biochem sections
The best App for MCAT
I am really happy because is easy to use and the material it’s so great. Flash cards are awesome and also quiz sessions have explanations for every answer. Great job! Definitely based on evidence material with so good HACKS to increase the learning process.
Well…
Honestly I loved when it was free. I hate the fact that I have to pay to study for an exam that I also have to pay for. It’s already so many fees and dues in the process to becoming a doctor, the least this world can do is provide free studying tactics.
No grandfathering :/
I really wish they allowed early students to be grandfathered in. I watched their videos before and was using their app when i was preparing but ended up putting off my mcat. Now turns out they have a paid subscription just like every med school prep. Disappointed but theres always free resources available meh
Great Resource for a great price
So far so good. But I guess I’ll really know when I take the MCAT
Better options
It wasn’t free and they are just videos, so just go to youtube
Why is it not free anymore?
I use to love this app due to how accessible it was to those who could not afford to pay a full MCAT prep course. I clicked on the app today to do my daily review and they now charge money of 19.99 or 69.99 yearly. Why is it not free anymore? Might as well pay for a real MCAT PREP COURSE. Ridiculous….
Great app!
I like how well it is organized!
Not Free Anymore
People should watch their videos on YouTube instead of downloading this app
Great videos
The videos included in the premium package are really easy to follow along with - the instructor is good and knows their stuff. It’s a little surface level in terms of what you need to know, but it’s a generally good overview. It should be paired with book learning and other resources.
Good app buttt.
This was one of the better apps that I found I could not believe how in-depth it was and how FREE it was. Extremely distasteful to have an app that was free to all then want to charge them with absolutely no changes to the app. You rapacious people can not feel good about charging aspiring doctors even MORE money on top of all the application fees, practice exams, and many more. Just insane. I understand the cost of food is going up but come on don't take it out on us. #notcoolbro
