I enjoy this system better than the previous one I order. It’s worth the price!
An expensive waste of time
Upgraded to the iPhone 17. This is not compatible. Tried different rooms different backgrounds it will not pick up the target at all. The system is updated to where you need to purchase a weapon that’s compatible with the system. So the laser bullets are pretty much useless. The stand that holds your phone if you barely touch it causes the target to get out of focus and move so it’s hard to take a picture to show that it can’t detect the target that it’s asking for.
Great product.
A little challenging to get the enrollment process done. App could use some work with being able to delete the numerous extra shots that flood in at times. The instruction is excellent and the feed back is right on. This definitely improves my results at the range and is helping me practice at the range much more efficiently (read; less money on live ammo). So I know when I have put in some time with effective set-fire training g, I am training.
Reads wrong score, can barely hear the score
If I move just a bit when shooting it’ll read two scores, the second one because I moved. The developer also ruined the voice score announcement. Now it’s so quiet and right over the shot sound so it’s barely audible and at times I am not sure what I scored. 2-3 years ago it was a decent app, not sure what happened
App needs improvement
Update: Me again. My phone overheats like crazy. I can only get like two courses in before it gets really bad. Once improvement would be to reduce the time the camera is active. When displaying the instructions, no need to have the camera active. When a course is completed, again immediately turn off camera. Original: Great way to practice your shots, and fun for a group to practice. The app can use a lot of improvements. As a developer, I’d be happy to help out and take this app to the next level: Better courses, ability to select trainings/course by target, more games/challenges. My number 1 wishlist is ability to select trainings based off target. For the fun targets, the only way to practice them is to select a course and skip to the target we want, like “Control” and “Circles”. App does not open camera
App only opens camera for open shooting and some modes, tutorials don’t work. $160 junk, followed all steps to troubleshoot on website. Save your money. iPhone 15 pro max
Works most of the time
I have really been enjoying the training, drills, and tests. I don’t like that I have to continually swap from my camera app back to the mantis app to force it to calibrate. It seems to go into a sleep mode if lift calibrating. I have a iPhone 17 pro max.
terrible zoom because it only uses one camera!
the iphone 13 pro max has 3 cameras one of them is a 5x zoom so mantis should be able to zoom far with no loss in image quality it doesn't it only uses the 1x camera, which results in terrible image quality and so is unable to recognize target far away
I want to love it
So much great info and clearly well put together processes. But the use of the camera makes it almost useless. The slightest movement sets it off. The celebration doesn’t hold and it will often no longer see a target even if nothing changed. I could be several yards away from the phone and it flickers back in fourth. I do not see this issue with the MantisX app
Excellent Training
Laser Academy is exceptional! My sooting has drastically improved over the past 3-4 months that I have had the Laser Academy, Mantis X. I loved those so much that I recently purchased the training pistol and am really enjoying that as well. I’m able to shoot 3x’s as many rounds when training all because I don’t need to rack the slide after every shot. This training academy is superb and I highly recommend it!!
The app sucks
Sorry cool idea but having to refigure the app and then having to deal with them trying to sell me a membership for an additional $50 is BS.
Pistol course.
Great product, however the app seems to be glitchy. When going through the pistol course, the app won’t let me get all my shots off. The timer buzzes and I was hitting 100%. Also the app will periodically stop recognizing targets I bought through you all. Help
Doesn’t support bolt action
My main rig is a 223 that I really hopes to use this for training. My T3X when fired keeps the firing pin in the laser trigger keeping the laser on. A very easy fix would be to provide an option in the app to ignore the laser for a few seconds after a shot to reload the bolt. Seems to have been requested many times over the past few years but there is reluctance to provide. Sad as I otherwise cannot use the app effectively.
Best Laser Training App I’ve Tried… When It Works (But v2.0 Made It Frustrating)
Mantis Laser Academy is hands-down the best target-based dry-fire app I’ve used… when everything cooperates. It is incredibly engaging and effective for building skills at home. Unfortunately, the v2.0 update seriously degraded the usability that made earlier versions great. The biggest issue is the overly sensitive movement detection. If the phone shifts even slightly, the app locks into a “moving” warning screen and disables inputs like the START button. Tapping to begin a session often triggers this, forcing multiple frustrating attempts to get going. It’s especially bad with the phone in a 4-foot stand on soft flooring, where even subtle vibrations cause problems. Using the control target to start/stop sessions? In theory, yes , but good luck getting reliable camera detection of even one target, let alone two. The automatic camera adjustments and calibration that worked smoothly pre-2.0 now feel unreliable and finicky. I really miss the pre-2.0 version’s stability and responsiveness. I’d love to see these interface/movement issues fixed in an update. Right now, the potential is huge, but the execution feels like a step backward. Pros: • Excellent drills and feedback when stable • Fun, game-like training that actually improves shooting Cons: • Overly aggressive movement lockout ruins flow • Degraded target/camera detection post-v2.0 • No easy way to avoid the issues short of perfect stillness (impractical for real use) If the developers address the sensitivity and restore reliable controls, this could be a 5-star app again. As it stands, 3 stars. Great concept held back by interface regressions.
Amazing training aid
Although I am fortunate enough to have my own range in my yard, this is great for rainy days or winter is dark outside or when it’s hot outside or when I don’t wanna spend ammunition Nothing like practicing

Constantly stuck at calibration screen and it’s literally a 10% chance this app works properly.
Perfect home trainer
Great product I have recommend to the Agent in my Agency. The only complaint is the product sometimes records two shots when you only fired one shot that is the only reason I did not give it 5 stars. I tried adjusting the camera manually, bought the camera shades. It appears to record the initial shot and the end of the laser movement. Note it’s not a lot of movement and it doesn’t happen all the time. It only hurts during app competition and evaluations. You can live with it if you’re just trying to focus on basics and develop good muscle memory. I still recommend for new, developing, and even seasoned shooters. It will definitely save you money on ammunition.
Nice idea, in practice annoying
Got this for my birthday for dry fire practice, when it works it’s a great tool. Setting it up so it works is pretty annoying. It’s very sensitive and is constantly losing my target so can’t develop any kind of rhythm. I’m using the tripod with my phone about five feet away from a small target and range set to 3 yards and it will not register the target. Opening the settings shows my shutter is just moving up and down without any input from me. If I try to reposition my phone or the targets it starts simulating rounds like the bank robbery scene in “Heat”, which frankly doesn’t lend itself to a smooth experience. I just find myself putting it away after ten minutes.
Lack of Blackbeard options
The basic idea of this app is good, but the fact there are ZERO Blackbeard specific courses available, and all of the drills are more geared to pistol shooting is kind of lame. The Blackbeard unit wasn’t cheap, I expected a lot more support for it specifically from the app. I’ve had the system for roughly 6 months or so and barely think to use it anymore because the lack of updates and Blackbeard support have made it kinda boring.
Fun and effective
I’m a new gun owner and I bought the Mantis Laser academy right away. Best thing I could’ve done! Get a great feel for the gun. Got a great feel for the sights. The training classes are fun and effective. Not the same as firing live ammo, nothing is. But training trigger control and getting my sights down has made a significant difference at the range for me. Worth every nickel!
Like the challenge, hate how I am treated
The Idea and all the drills are very nice, but sitting in front of this app watching a punishment timer makes me feel like an i…t. For this I payed 60 bucks?
Need to be Fixed
after every drill change the app get stuck on calibration and is unable to unlock the camera black screen all the time even after relaunch .
Laser Academy
Vorab, die Schusserkennung funktioniert ohne Beanstandung. Dafür hatte die App eigentlich fünf Sterne verdient, allerdings nervt es dass man das Mantis X über ein zweites Device auswerten muss. Das hätte man auch gerne kompatibel machen können. Ebenso fehlt eine Gruppenfunktion. Die Software wirkt im Gegensatz zum Mantis X nicht wirklich fertig.
Pretty good
Just tried it and I like it but already found some annoyances. If using the tripod on carpet your phone will move slightly when selecting options and it will say something like "moving" and not let you select buttons like to start the drill (I know I can use the paper target). Can we get a favorite button for drills? I would like to only see the couple drills I use and not see jingle bells and die hard all the time. I get a lot of accidental clicks while scrolling. Also when calibrating, the text box for instructions covers half the screen so I can't see the crosshairs I am trying to move.
Worth Your Time
Mantis is great for getting practice time in between range sessions.

Great except…
The only thing that I would say could improve this would be if I could listen to music in the background. For some reason when I start up a drill the music turns off and I can’t play it in the background. I think this is because I am using the camera for the target. Other than that small thing, the app and everything works great.

What happened to dual single target? I had it now it’s gone??

This is such a great training aid! So many different drills to help perfect your skills.
SCAM
Bought this kit brand new and sealed, it claims with the code you get full access to the app. The code says it has been used. I would not recommend this product, not only does a brand new code somehow say it’s been used, but the app is pointless without full access. What a SCAM.
As advertised
App does what developer says. It’s up to you to put in the work. Personally I think it’s invaluable if you don’t get to the range more than once a month.
Phone or other hardware issue but frustrating to use
I was really excited to get into this app and as all things when it works it works good. I have the travel version of the paper academy and when I traveled brought it with me. Using the tripod is a little frustrating every time. Went to make a minor adjustment the screen either recognizes a hit or the phone moves locking out the buttons. Light settings are extremely sensitive and makes it somewhat annoying to deal with. If o could get the app to work like I have only once or twice I would love it . I hate to say it but the versatility idea is right but the implementation of both hardware and software needs something not sure what that is
Fantastic Practise
Laser Academy steps you through drills and courses with an X10 that will give feedback on accuracy and trigger control without a trip to the range or expending ammo.
Bad update
Ever since doing this update the app will not turn targets when turning phone horizontally. The targets are washed out and not detecting most of them now. I have tried it on multiple phones and still the same.
Supported hand only
For the most part its a good training aid more for the discipline of practicing everyday. Major flaw as an example is For the support hand only challenge of needing 80 or better the sensor will pick up slide reload as a shot so your working on 90+ at times and you engage the slide for the next dry fire and you get a 7.9 or some absurd number. Thus I have attempt at least 200 plus shot work clean and accurate then on my next slide movement it bombs. Needs a fix for sure. Would I buy it again probably not simply because there are challenges that are not written properly and the sensor is at tome inefficient to say the least.

LaserRun Training
Verwende Laser Academy jetzt zusätzlich zu MantisX für UIPM LaserRun Schießtraining mit einer Pentashot LC14, klappt prima. Man sieht Schußbild und Punkte. Wenn bei Laser Academy noch Tipps zu den Schussbildern kommen, wie bei MantisX, gibts den fünften Stern. Aber ich bin jetzt schon sehr zufrieden.

Iphone … kein Sound
Nach einigen Wochen Pause heute neues Training … aber kein Ton der App beim iphone. Kein Timer. Kein Schussgeräusch. Nichts. Neustart von iphone und App brachten nichts. Liegt das an der neuen Version 1.10. ? Jedenfalls ist die ganze Sache so unbrauchbar!
