Low Screen Time blockers cost money. I’m just happy this one was free.
Predatory app
When you start the free trial, the app claims it will give you a reminder before it’s set to renew. I didn’t receive a reminder at all and they took $50 from me. I couldn’t even get a refund from Apple because the subscription isn’t eligible for a refund. Horrible business.
Helpful but buggy
It’s amazing what making it slightly difficult to access Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok etc. can do for your life. It saves me so much time and makes me feel free from the chains of the big tech bros. I enjoy my 15 minutes a day, and try not to unblock once it’s used up. When it comes to unblocking thoigh, the app can be quite buggy. Sometimes after I reset my limit it gives me only 10 seconds instead of the rightful 15 minutes. I’ve had to uninstall the app before because it kept mistakenly giving me notifications when I was on one of my allowed apps. It can be buggy, but I’m sure they’ll be fixing all these things in the future.
Drop the aesthetics
I like what this app *does* but I cannot stand all the extra bs you have to work your way through before it’s functional. I don’t care about gems. I don’t care about streaks. It’s messy, it clogs the app up, it reduces functionality and hurts the user experience. I DREAD entering the app because it’s that painful to use. Just keep it simple and focus on what you do best, the app limitations, and simplify and clear out the rest of the junk.
New App made me quit after 2 years
The app used to be amazing, simple to use, straight forward, the update ruined everything. After 700 days of continuous use, I will be moving to a new app. Shame
Best appp ever
I got my Screen Time down to zero minutes. I know that is crazy and on average days my screen time is 20 minutes I used to be 18 hours not even joking.
Still worse
Planning to delete today; as another reviewer said - all these “features” are distracting and not the reason I assume most of us downloaded the app. I have a 457-day streak and says I’m top 21% of global users. But daily basic use is mind-numbing and frustrating - I don’t have the patience or interest to document all the user experience issues. More work than what it’s worth to me. I have a 1-year+ Opal streak and it looks like I have to update my app settings (which are allowed, not allowed, etc.) And even though I have a Pro account, I’m receiving prompts that it’s only available for Pro accounts. It’s so confusing and has been frustrating to try to open an app that I legitimately need access to…gahhh. I may end up cancelling and deleting if I have to set it up again. It also says my screen time is up 39% since using Opal the last year ?!!
Amazingly helpful, but I’m having some small issues
This app has been unbelievably helpful in reducing my screen time, but I’ve run into some small issues. First, on my focus report, one day will say that I had zero screen time despite that not being true. Secondly, I had to turn off notifications due to the same notification regarding a time keeper rule repeatedly being displayed, even when I wasn’t using the app connected to the rule. Aside from those small issues, I completely recommend using this app, there’s only time to gain from this app.
New updates broke time limits
This app used to be really great, but recent updates have made it practically unusable. I typically keep my social media apps blocked as to avoid distractions, but on certain occasions where I need to unblock them it does not work. I will go into the Opal app, unblock the social media app, go into said app, and it will be immediately blocked again. To ACTUALLY unblock an app, I end up having to go into Opal multiple times. Sometimes, I will get notifications that my time limit is up on the app while I'm not even using it. It works well to keep me off my phone, but the time limits are flawed.
Bad update
Was a great app before the big update. Now it’s way to slow, lags all the time and there’s just too many information and buttons. Deleting it now sadly

it literally barely works any more
it’s super laggy, buggy and annoying, and doesn’t reset my limits unless I do it like 5 times. I’m deleting it for an app that just does time limits, that’s literally all I want it to do and instead you add a bunch of stones and scores which I would be fine with if the time limit wasn’t the only thing that doesn’t work anymore
App used to work, but regardless of what I do I can’t open it
I’ve had Opal for the past 8 months and it’s been great, but over the past week I just haven’t been able to open the app. If I reinstall it and try to reset it all up, the app crashes on the select sample block screen and if I try to reopen the app I’m presented with a black screen for 30 seconds and it crashes again. Would be 5 stars if it worked
Works but data space hog
This app is great for helping reduce screen time but it started to take up more and more space on my phone to the point where I had to delete it. If there were a way to remove some of the data, for example, the “gems”, to save space it would be perfect. As it is I stopped using it.

Constant resetting- bugged
Constantly blocks the app right after you reset the rules. Had a streak of over a year, and noticed this bug throughout my use but it never happened more than once a day. Today I finally decided to delete this app, after resetting the blocking rule over 8x in 5 minutes. If you are going to have an app that blocks an app, make it good. Do not recommend.
Love it, but... 😔
i love it a lot. the theme is right up my alley, and functions are great. but y'all updated it and took some things away! first, i appreciate you putting back the crystal on the lockscreen. but please put back the title of the focus? or make it optional? i used to love looking at my phone and seeing my own affirmation/reminder before i even attempt to open any apps. now it's just the countdown. makes me feel like i'm waiting for something rather than working towards something.
good app but it crashes
i tried it and liked it, stopped using it, now went back to it again but every time i try set up the app it crashes after giving me recommended blocking times. it works to block my apps but if i go back to the app it’s just black. please fix this 💔💔
Bring back exclusions
I started using this app 12/25, and it was a total game changer for my ADHD. However, it has slowly become less and less effective for me with all the changes and updates. I used to be so proud of my screen time- it was sort of gamified for me, seeing how low I could keep it. There used to be a feature to exclude apps from being included in your screen time, which was a big part of what made the app so effective for me. I was always discouraged seeing a high screen time on my device from apps like maps or Spotify or my audiobook apps, especially because I often forgot to lock my phone. Opal gave you the option to exclude those from contributing to your screen time. I also use a row counting app when I crochet, and it was great to exclude that because I have it open for hours at a time. When the feature was taken away, it was really discouraging to see my screen time shoot up. All of a sudden just having my row counting app open shot my screen time up by hours. Having time that is EXPLICITLY analog and intentionally offline contribute to a previously motivating feature was such a bummer. I feel like the app worked well initially, all of these extra features and changes make it much more unusable for me. I think all of the rapid changes should be introduced slowly. When people find something that works, especially people struggling with attention, the apps influx of changes can be frustrating and render the app less effective. Don’t make changes for changes sake.
Laser Focused
It took some discipline to get used to, but it has really given me a lot of mental clarity. I didn’t realize how addicted I was to some apps and it was good to get control of my life.

i love this app, great for blocking and keeping me on track in school but i do it with my brother who’s on android and he doesn’t get to change his gem. i would love if he also got gem!
So many questions
It asks you so many questions you'd rather suffer from distraction than answering this app 🤦🏻♂️ When developers want to learn that an app should just get to the point and not waste user's time with lectures and questions!!
Free version is excellent!
Edit: since the new update, very buggy. When I reset a limit and return to the app it gets blocked in a second very often. And sometimes on random days opal doesn’t block any of the apps I have limits for. This persists after closing and restarting opal, deleting and reinstalling opal, or closing the target app. Still holding out hoping these issues will resolve Old review I’ve tried apple’s built-in, the tree one, and other app blockers, but this one is the most realistic and practical one. I especially appreciate the weekly reports. Gives me a clear view of whether this app is helpful. And the graphics are pleasant and simple!
Shortcuts
La app es muy buena y apenas la volví a descargar por la misma razón. Y me estoy dando cuenta de que no hay mucho soporte con la app de shortcut de Apple . Creo que hay muchas posibilidades de usar app de Opal com shortcut y fuera más versátil. Ya que la app se centra en hacer más productivos a sus clientes esa sería una forma usando atajos. Recent update made it useless
I loved this app. It helped me to stay away from social media, however after recent update it barely ever blocks any apps and I find myself doom scrolling for hours before I realise the apps should be closed.

Terrible Update
Used to have this app and it genuinely helped me get my phone usage way down. But then it updated (assuming to collect more data on users bc it asks so many invasive questions now - also notifies you to constantly open the app for no reason) making it unusable after it finally asks you do you want the premium version. The app loads a black screen and then closes itself, not worth the redownload. Disappointing that prioritizing greed killed a perfectly fine app.
Screen time
Please bring back to option to disable apps from adding to your screen time. I have not been on my phone for 6 hours scrolling I’ve been researching about enzymes! Please 🥹
Not great
Once my free trial ended it kind of stopped working. It only blocks the apps part of the time. If I’m in the app when the blocks happen I don’t get locked out of them. The last two weeks it’s also gave me a report that I have used my phone for 0 minutes a day when honestly my phone usage hasn’t really gone down at all. I’m on it far too much. So that’s disappointing. It wasn’t super expensive but it doesn’t work at all.
Good App but recently fallen apart
The app was useful and allowed me to control my time and still provide a good system of control. Since they overhauled the app like a month or two ago it has turned much more buggy. A lot of it is extremely glitchy and frustrating and the app freezes and crashes frequently. I didn’t see the necessity of changing it so dramatically in the first place.

I personally love Opal. It’s the only blocker that works amazing and offers a free service.

Reset limit broken
Reset limit has been broken for ages now it literally doesn’t work. I have 15 min a day and resetting it only gives me like 30 seconds or it works randomly. Checking reviews it seems a lot of people dislike the new update. I understand that you need to push for higher profits but looking at companies like roblox, sometimes this will genuinely bankrupt you. I would make the app simpler and make new features more optional, and definitely make the app less laggy and buggy. Still a good app but very annoyed w it recently and on verge of uninstalling
Undo the updates
This app was amazing until the recent update changed the UI. It really ruined the app for me. It isn't intuitive anymore. It is very sad because it really helped manage screen time with the previous interface. Now, why is the little unblock oval floating over the Home Screen so prominately? Why stuck in dark mode with sizes of text all over the place? Why are the buttons so small and transparent? It is all now cluttered and hard to find. Also I want to easily start sessions anytime and be able to start simultaneous other block sessions at different lengths. This is not possible now. The single session takes over the whole screen, it doesn't allow access to any other parts of opal when using the instant start blocking feature. This is so bizarre. I want to access the app to review rules, look at settings, etc. not lock the entire app during a session. It's essentially useless. Please restore what was great about opal.
Good, but needs a better update
The app is very very slow when I try to use the unlock button, sometimes it’s so laggy, my screen crashes or freezes up, some other times I would scroll on the minute thing, and I want it to be 15 minutes but it’ll say “break for 2 minutes” or “break for 5 minutes” when I legit scrolled down to “15 minute break” it’s so laggy it’s ridiculous. I’m on an IPhone XR. So it’s probably the system doing it too.
You probably need this
I was soooo annoyed by this app at first. And then I had to stop and self reflect. This app is actually great and much needed. I almost got annoyed and deleted it out of frustration. I’m glad i didn’t.
Used to be a great app
I don’t normally review apps, but feel the need to with this one. Like others have said, this app used to be great and really helped me limit my screentime. Since the recent updates started rolling out, I’ve found the app to be fairly useless. The amount of bugs alone is embarrassing. These are the kinds of things that should have been caught during testing. I try to click a button and get no response. Then it won’t let me exit a window. I close the app and restart it, but buttons are still non-responsive. I realize this is a big ask, but please consider rolling back the app to the version before all the new updates. Then take this feedback to your developers and have them start from scratch.

I downloaded it thinking I’m gonna be able to delete it and I really want to now because it’s annoying me that he’s blocking the app. I don’t want it to block and now it won’t let me delete it so I’m giving it a two stars.
Updates Ruined the App
I am very disappointed to have to write this, but the latest big update revamped everything. But this revamp wasn’t even good, it ruined everything for me. Not only did it stop having hourly check ins, but I can’t have multiple apps unblocked that are crucial to my daily life. I need communication, fitness, studying, and mapping as unblocked but it stops at 9 apps total. On top of all of that, the unblock feature became broken and it doesn’t even have me wind down before using an app. The app feels like its become super limited and intended for purchases now. Updates have ruined it for me.

Worst app OAT
So laggy and glitchy. You reset your time limit and then it still blocks your apps 5 seconds after. It drains your battery expediently fast. So many features are behind a paywall. This app used to work fine but after the recent update everything went downhill.
Good Run
I’ve been an opal user for the last 132 days and today is the day i finally wrap it up. Opal has helped me so much but the new update completely ruined the app. If i have 1 piece of advice, go back to the old version. The new opal, isn’t THE opal. Thank you for the last 132 days.

So I have my opal set up to turn off my distracting apps around three hours of screen time I do happen to reset it quite few times in a week but lately like 5 minutes ago it turned off at five minutes why?
