I honestly feel like they have bot accounts. Where they have people that initiate conversation just to keep you on the app wasting money. The settings don’t work whether if you pay or not. Whatever you’re looking for you won’t find it on here. I honestly feel like apps like this should be put out of service.

Good app but I got banned for no reason and I want to appeal this cause I miss this app
Endless updates.
It seems like every time I’m opening this app, it’s a consistent update coming my way. I wholeheartedly get It, but imagine attempting to use an app and they literally block all activity on the app, to redirect you to an immediate update when none of my other apps do this.
APP is Good BUT FULL OF BUGS !!!
Really needs work and maintenance some matches don’t work the app stalls the same card stack repeats and it’s still very restrictive overall but love the concept it’s a great app just needs work

Horrible app. I live in a populated city. I had over 30 likes. In a month and a half I have yet to make one match of me swiping. 2. I filled out my profile completely and yet there are bottom tier women with empty profiles and terrible pictures, why weren’t they declined. As bad as BLK is, it’s the better option by a long shot. This is just a money grab.

Not as Exclusive as Advertised
I initially joined Black Gentry with high expectations based on how it was marketed. The app presents itself as an “elite” platform for Black singles, and the approval/waitlist process gave the impression that members would be more curated—professionals, established individuals, and people intentionally seeking serious connections. However, after joining, my experience didn’t really match that expectation. The user base felt very similar to what you’d find on more general dating apps like Facebook Dating, with a wide range of profiles that didn’t reflect the “high-value, professional” branding the app promotes. It didn’t feel especially selective or curated in practice. Another downside for me is the paywall. Unless you subscribe, you can only see who likes you once every 24 hours, which makes it difficult to meaningfully engage with the app without paying. I personally don’t feel motivated to pay for a subscription when the overall experience already feels inconsistent with what was advertised. Overall, I think the app has potential, but it may benefit from either tightening its membership criteria or adjusting its branding to better reflect the actual user experience.
Waitlist and glitch
I want to be able to experience the wonderful things I’ve heard about this app, but I’ve been on the waitlist for months at this point. I hope it’s worth the wait. As for the glitch happening; if I close the app and go back to check if I’ve been accepted, it tries to have me recreate my account, but also says I need to login first with no way to actually go back and doing so. I have to delete the app and reinstall it to be able to login again.

Illusion of Exclusion
I feel like they’ll approve anyone who doesn’t have provocative pics and substance on profiles doesn’t matter like you’d think a members-only app would give. I created a thoughtful profile according to their instructions and process to approve members but when I got approved I was disappointed to see blank or barely complete profiles. I actually paid for a 3 month subscription because I want to see who likes but I don’t feel like it’s worth the money at all.

Are there really this many updates or is it a glitch. I update and then 2 days later it’s promoting again, besides that I like the app, but it’s annoying

I get it the developers need to make money but locking all likes behind a paywall is crazy and the cost of membership is too much. You have to pay even before seeing if the app is worth the cost.
Not what they advertise AT ALL
The mission of the app and the execution aren’t aligned at all, much like me (an ambitious and intentional woman) and the men on the app (a bunch of dusty bums). The idea of this so-called “members only” space with detailed profiles being prioritized is an absolute lie. Most profiles have next to no information and are full of YN looking insta photos with grills, middle fingers, and bottles. I was hoping for something more akin to “The League” but for OUR people but instead I got a waste of bunch of nothing. Additionally, they constantly let you know you’re receiving likes but without paying, I never come across those profiles because their algorithm (intentionally) sucks. They want your money so they never prioritize profiles of people who have already liked you. I also think that’s a terrible business play because if I saw a couple of those profiles and matched with solid men, I’d be more willing to pay the monthly subscription. So glad I didn’t spend any money on this though.

The women are attractive and I’ve met a lot of people. So far the experience has been smooth. I like that you can send messages for free and also see some of your likes without paying. Which is better than a lot of other apps.

It is one of the worst apps out there
Just like all of those lousy dating apps Black Gentry is easily the worst. They want to advertise their products for free but you will have to pay just to see who can match with. After that it’s a complete scam and then the app wants to pay out of pocket for more services which the basis membership doesn’t help the first time…
Profile approval
It’s been 3 years I’ve still yet got a profile approval how like I don’t understand

Abysmal customer service. If you accidentally pay for a subscription and request a refund—without utilizing a single feature—they categorically refuse to assist and immediately weaponize their terms of service as a convenient escape hatch. There is no discretion, no empathy, and no semblance of customer‑centric thinking. Their posture makes it unmistakably clear: they prioritize financial extraction over fundamental fairness, and they would rather cling to policy than exercise even the slightest degree of human decency.

Doesn’t fully load for the first minute close the application and allow it to load again the logo just flashes constantly when it does load it freezes it shows notifications are present and then you open the application it is a blank screen and in the middle of writing or uploading or communicating commenting on public form the app closes out on you and everything you have wrote or done is lost. It becomes a bit of a nuisance to deal with.
Can’t match anyone that likes me
I had so many likes on this app and I’m swiping right and can’t seem to find the people that liked my profile and it’s so hard to get matches on this app for some reason. At least on hinge and tinder u will find the people that liked you at some point

First off, this app banned me for no reason at all. Met a guy named John D Walker who stole Ryon Walkers identity claiming that he was a Military person stationed in Gaza. He’s a scammer. If you met him, Run! Ladies beware if this person. He’s good at what he does. Met him on this site.

App is a waist, in order to adjust your location search you have to subscribe, i have multiple likes but can only view for free after 10, then when i use it the women are 200 miles away while i’m in L.A. 😑.
Too restrictive, trying too hard to come off as exclusive
Not only is there a cap on how many times you swipe right but there’s a cap on how many times you swipe left?? Also there’s a restriction on how many free dms you can answer. Which is super pointless if you’re unable to respond to the people who dm you first. It’s not worth paying extra when the free version is too restrictive. Feels exploitative of the fact you want to make money off people who are obviously desperate to date within their community and then on top of that the app makes it harder to maintain those connections. Not sure how long this app has been around but if they want more user success they should take off the restrictions. Also it’s laughable they have this fake DBS thing to check your profile meets the standards for example no flexing money in your pictures, throwing gang signs or putting up the middle finger” yet I’ve seen so many profiles like that. Whoever’s doing the cross checks clearly isn’t thorough enough!

This is like every other app I’m not understanding how some of your people don’t get it. You do not have to pay if you’re a free subscriber all you have to do is match with the person. If they choose you and you choose them, then you are able to talk freely. I think some of you guys are impatient and just don’t understand the app.

Downloaded this app over a week ago felt it was reasonably intuitive to get setup (it’s why my star rating isn’t lower than three Once i created my account however i was met by a message informing me that i was now “on a waitlist to be approved and that i should ensure my profile was over 75% filled out which I have This message further informs you that you will be “manually reviewed” and you will be informed when or if you’re approved by way of notification What it fails to say is how long this takes - frankly either they have one person in a dark room frantically trying to “manually review” people’s profiles or they are all on holiday Either way I NEVER leave reviews but I can’t figure any other way to express my disappointment as they do not offer any means of support for waitlist questions…as mentioned I’ve been on it for a week and a half if nothing changes at the end of this second week I will be removing the app - nothing is worth this much hassle frankly
