SIBO savior
Thank you so much
Yikes
I just downloaded the app and looked at the initial recommendations. I immediately saw many options that I’m deathly allergic to and no option to scan them out. The app is worthless for me.
I good but one thin
The only thing Is that it does not have the grocery store I go to which is market basket
would be good if it worked
good idea, good potential, but it’s so slow, and sometimes the QR scanner just doesn’t work, never loads anything. so disappointing. refund requested
When it works
Nice app when it works but I’m finding that half the time it won’t even open up, even when I have 2 bars on 5G. You can forget LTE! Makes no sense to me why it won’t open half the time when I have a good cell signal. Just seems like it’s not very stable to me.
Nice App
It helps a lot just in seconds to know about vegetarian products
Don’t try unless you want to buy
I downloaded a trial for this app. It wasn’t useful to me. Unfortunately, I did not cancel in time and now I’m stuck with a $30 app that I have no use for. I submitted a refund request through Apple , twice, and was denied. There is no way to contact this company or the developers. Download at your own risk or you will also be $30 poorer.
Really helpful for managing IBS
I have found Spoonful very helpful in managing IBS. It’s super easy to scan a meal or look up ingredients to determine how FODMAP friendly it is. A real game changer.
Seemed a bit to complicated to use
Didn’t show certain products so I got confused
I was happy at first
But I don’t think I can trust this app after all. There are clearly high FODMAP foods that are considered low in this app. On more than one occasion I have messed up my stomach trusting this app, even when scanning the specific products. I’m trying to learn what’s ok and what’s not, and it’s not easy to read labels when you need your reading glasses at the store smh. Might end up canceling the membership even though it’s not much. But if I can’t trust this app I can’t use it. Feeling sad because every time I start to feel better I end up eating the wrong thing!!! Someone needs to monitor these things!
Alpha Gal
The Spoonful app has been an important tool in getting a grasp on managing a new diet after an Alpha Gal diagnosis.
Switched to Fig
Not trustworthy. Turns out that cashews are not FODMAP compatible
It’s a nice app!
Honestly, so far for my FODMAP diet! Only thing I dislike is having to pay a subscription.
Not helpful for corn allergies
I love the app idea and the layout but unfortunately, this shouldn’t be used if you have a corn allergy. When looking for “certified corn-free products,” nothing comes up. The “compliant” corn-free products that do come up are often reported to be cross contaminated by others with this allergy. A corn allergy is extremely difficult to navigate so kudos to the developer for even including it on here. However, if you want to find corn-free food or gluten-free food and you DONT have a life threatening allergy, this is a great app even with the free option.
Review
When it works, it’s very helpful. But most times when grocery shopping it suddenly stops and ask about a free trial and will no longer scan. I PURCHASED this app so no idea why it keeps saying I need to purchase again. Frustrating and I want my money back!
I LOVE THIS!!!
i’m baking a cake that my brother with alpha gal will be eating & it’s so simple to scan the ingredient’s bar code or look up alternatives & bake w confidence 😍
Never accurate
^^
Helpful!
Very helpful! I’m new to GF and feel less anxious now using this app
Great information - impossible to access
Although the app has helpful information it is incredibly challenging to access. The search function does not work properly and displays “no products found.” However, when I google the product a like to the spoonful entry comes up… From the google link there is an option to download the app, but you cannot open the same page. This wouldn’t be an issue, however the qr code has been scanning thing incorrectly.
Need subscription
I got this app because I want a better understanding of what is good to eat on a vegetarian diet and what isn’t. So of course I downloaded this app to scan products, and it’s a wonderful app! But you need a subscription in order to continue the use of the app. You only get five free scans and then you’re done. It gives you a list of ingredients that might not be suitable to your diet, and it tells you if you’re in the clear or not, and it gives you a clear explanation as to why it’s telling you these things. For these reasons it’s a wonderful app, but you need to pay.
My Low FODMAP Advisor
I have depended of the spoonful scanner to give me quick advice on the ‘safety’ of a product before I purchase it. Love this app! Keeps my gut happy. ☺️
Caution!
I was looking for an app that’ll scan for my friend’s allergens, and so I was testing it out on something that had his allergens. He is allergic to all nuts, so I scanned an ALMOND butter smoothie. The app said “no almond detected”… so use with caution…
So far, So good
So far I have really loved this app. Instead of just telling you a color,it also breaks down what it is exactly that maynotbe right for you. And it does this by store as well!!
Not that useful in Australia
Not all that good here. Heaps of foods missing, even obvious ones like a can of chickpeas. Also, the substitutions are hilariously bad. A good replacement for a cup of tea is apparently gluten free bread. There's some things on there, so it might be worth doing the free trial. If you're just starting out on fodmap like me though, it's not that good.
I want to love it
I really need this right now. On a very restrictive diet as I’m breastfeeding a baby with a sensitive stomach but sometimes I scan things and it says it has ingredients it doesn’t or it says it doesn’t have dairy but it does. I do submit an error but I really count on it to be reliable.
Very helpful
This app has been super helpful. A struggle to find vegan options.
Limiting
Really? Limiting the amount of times you can search stuff?
Really good, but …
Great app, just scan and get info. But I’m not crazy with the monthly or annual subscription fee.
Glitchy
Originally worked wonders for me but now the app seems to keep glitching and won’t show me any products or load properly? Unsure if some bugs need to be fixed or something. Would change to a 5 star rating if I could actually use the app at all, especially since I’m paying for it
Slight disappointment of products
When in Tesco I am disappointed at the lack of product that are not bar code read and recognised.
A smart shopping helper
This app has helped me so much choose the right foods for my needs. And they are so helpful adding new items quickly. Thank you!
Wish I could use it!
Another app hidden behind subscriptions. Can't even search through their lists more than 6 times before you HAVE to use the 7 day free trial and then that's it! Booooooooooo 👎🏻
Billing is tricky
The app may work okay, but its info differs from online websites that have low fodmap info. I have no idea which is more accurate. The billing system is tricky: it indicates I signed up for both annual and monthly subscriptions. I admit that BBC I haven’t waited to hear back from the developer before deciding to just cancel while I can. I don’t want to risk double billing.
Good for low FODMAP but needs improvement
I kept clicking to email for help but it took me back to the troubleshooting page so I couldn’t get help, the app is great if the product is on there. I don’t know how to change which country I’m in.
Very helpful
Not all products state whether they are gluten free or not. This app helps to be able to scan a UPC and it tells you. There are several other allergies it can alert you to as well!!
Bar code
Does not work very well, takes too long to get it to work if at all!!!
Helps me a lot
Was diagnosed with with celiac in June of this year 2024 and was at a loss when buying groceries. Being able to scan food items when shopping has made it a lot easier on me . Thanks :)
Scanner doesn’t work
Pretty slow and the scanner just loads a white screen so is unusable. Good information on what I can access.
Very Helpful
I’ve been using this to help me shop during my run of SIBO. A great and easy to use tool for better gut health.
Not happy
This app opens up another level for you to order food from a service. Which I did not like the selection.
So far so good
I’m having endless digestive issues; after trying various deletions I decided to try low FODMAP, which seems really daunting to navigate. I just found this app, & it seems to make the whole complex process easier. I have tried it on a few made-in-Canada products; one product was in Spoonful’s database, one I had to add but the app could at least give an estimate of the product’s suitability. I think this app will really help me with a low FODMAP diet. 4 stars only because I haven’t had a chance to try it further. Update- suggestion - ability to scan in a recipe, useful to know if you should make it as is or can modify. After 4 days of using it I find it very useful.
Spoonful
We love this app and use it everyday!!! So very helpful with child who needs it to be more independent and with family members and friends not familiar with her diet! THANK YOU!!! And for quickly assessing and adding new products!
Don’t forget to cancel on time.
I enjoyed using the app when I needed it, but the day it rolled over for another one year term, I sent an email asking to cancel. Although I sent it the same day I received an email telling me it was billing me for a year, I was told (3 days later)that they can’t give partial refunds, so I have no choice but to pay for a whole year I don’t need.
A big help!
So glad to find this app/subscription. I still have to double check ingredients—for instance all forms of cellulose are made from corn but the app lets products with this on their list that’s supposed to be ok for me. The app whittles down the amount of research I have to do, though.
