Not the best but the privacy is worth it
The main issue i have with it is the letters on the keyboard are too close together. It makes it incredibly easy to make typos and its a bit frustrating. The text predictions are mediocre at best. BUT that being said, its the only keyboard app for iOS that is (hopefully) truly private and not spying on everything you type and collecting and selling your data. Plus points for being swiss based. Will definitely recommend it to people who are seeking privacy over convenience.

This keyboard is awesome for phones especially iphone. The normal iphone keyboard is a nightmare. This types better and had auto correct that actually works
Awful. Annoying. Stupid.
This keyboard is awful. The auto correct is incredibly bad, stupid, intrusive and annoying, it renders this app useless. What a waste of time! SO INCREDIBLY BAD!!!!!!
Great keyboard, terrible autocorrect
The free version keyboard is great. A couple of the pro features would be nice but its not worth paying for. However the autocorrect is bad. And it costs money to get the feature to fix the bad autocorrects. Still a better keyboard than apple, which i had to stop using because of its autocorrect as well
Paywall garbage
every decent feature that you might want to use to customize your typing experience is locked behind a paywall. So even though I have limited time with the app, I’m already giving up on it.
Can't do apostrophes
This is almost good. For one, it doesn't need to upload all typing data (unlike Gboard and SwiftKey). But the auto correct, while on average better than the stock iOS one, can't handle apostrophes. For example, "Id like to", "Well wait here" and "dont do that" don't auto correct. This is a pretty low bar to not clear for an autocorrector!
Space key/? Issue addressed
Change the space key sensitivity to high and the ? won't accidentally be selected. This was my only annoyance. Now my typing is so accurate and easy. Typewise: you should set your software so if it sees a lot of question marks then backspace is from typing, you pop upw suggestion to do this
Long press city
Paid for a month specifically to get the ? and . button customization, only to find that they weren't customizable at all, only the long press functionality was. Pointless. If I wanted long press to be the solution to everything I'd have stayed with the default iOS keyboard. Vibration on keypress is the worst offender by far. I type so fast that sometimes it skips a vibration and completely throws me off. Currently there's no option to have swiping the space bar move the cursor, again you're forced to long press.
A nice step
Haven't used the app consistently enough , but I feel its a decent 3rd party keyboard away from my default . Could use some work I would like some more theme's, or even better a custom theme with a color wheel or hex selection. The current custom theme option is disabled . I don't know if I overlooked, but a keyboard key sizing option as well for Portrait and Horizontal views. .
Hits and misses
I appreciate the larger keys. The key keyboard takes a little getting used to it, but it’s pretty intuitive. I like the swipe to delete. There are a lot of things to love. A big problem, though, is it doesn’t remember any of my hashtags words and I can’t attach gifs That becomes a real problem when my feed is full of #words and I have to keep typing them in over and over. Kinda defeats the purpose. Then I have to leave the app to go submit a GIF I’m not giving up on it just yet, but those are two big barriers for me
No Apple Text Replacement
I want to give this keyboard a fair shot, especially because it's not owned by the tech Goliaths, but it doesn't accommodate Apple's built-in text replacement. Tech support says it does, but I've tried all their recommendations and get nothing. I use TR hundreds of times a day, so... Disappointed.
4 Years strong on this
Been using this for years now and the only way i can type now is with this app.
Doesn't work, simple as that
Regularly corrects actual words into an incorrect word. As in almost every single time you type a word. Possibly the dumbest "smart" keyboard I've ever used. Completely useless as typing a simple sentance takes six times as long. I used it to type this review and it took almost eight minutes.
Needs liquid glass update
So far I'm enjoying it and I'm interested in getting used to it. The keyboard doesn't seem to have been updated to liquid glass, however, as evidenced by the awkward black rectangle of the keyboards space within the rounded space of the new design language. The app doesn't seem to have been updater in some time, which worried me about this getting fixed.

Including word suggestions like "it's" Still better than ios pathetic keyboard.
Still getting used to it
After a few months here are my impressions: Hex key shape is genius as bigger keys = less mistakes. So is the anywhere erase / unerase and swipe up for caps. On the flip side the bigger keys = less keys per line, so the disposition is not typical of most qwerty layouts, so there is a slight learning curve. I find the auto correct could be better. It sometimes makes mistakes. Using 2-3 different languages it doesn’t seem to try and figure out which language you’re currently using, and makes suggestions that aren’t always pertinent. So still room for improvement.

Love this keyboard. It's always been good to me. I wish they would update the app to fit better with iOS 26.

Haptic feedback too intense
I love this keyboard but I don't use it because the vibration when you type is too strong. All other keyboards for iOS use the lightest vibration possible, but not this keyboard.

Nice, but needs work
Using the pro version on iOS 26.2 on an iPhone 14 pro. First of all the blank space below the keyboard is extremely unfortunate. Not a fault of Typewise but I think any other gripe I have with the app stems from this. Many times the keyboard covers the input area and you cannot see what you are typing. Sometimes it covers it only partially. Can typically work around it by swiping out of the app and then back in. I see this with many apps but it is most bothersome with Messages and Teams. The issues aside, the keyboard is far superior to the stock keyboard once you learn how to use it efficiently. Unfortunately, unless things get better with a future update, I won't be able to continue my use.
The keyboard makes thibgs different
If you dont like change then the octogon keyboardprobably isbt for you. But it makes for a unique experience in typing. Only con is i cant move the curser by dgagging the spacebar. Only can you erase by dragging letters
Space bar is awful
Editing to add, the auto correct is the absolute worst I have seen with any keyboard. Misses simple words and replaces both misspelled and correctly spelled words with nonsense. I've given it a solid month since reinstall. I like the hex keyboard and backspacing but apart from that the app is trash. Love the keyboard, but the space bar configurations are awful. Having them in the middle is a mess, but having two keys at the bottom isn't much better. This needs to be fully customizable or there needs to be a way to make the keyboard below any other keys. Trying to get a space but constantly getting ? is maddening.
Novel and useful
Typewise takes some getting used to, but I find I can type more easily on it than the normal keyboard. It's missing support for typing shortcuts, though, and that trips me up sometimes. If they had shortcuts support and one-tap delete last word, would finally be the keyboard I've always dreamt of.
I’m typing worse on a cool looking keyboard
I only tried the free trial so idk if the logic is fixed when you do a subscription, but the autocorrect is horrible. I’s will always be undercapitalized, contractions don’t work and it autocorrects words terribly. It will even suggest an autocorrect and just go back to the wrong word, and a giant window will pop up, stoping your work to tell you how to click the top row like you’ve never had that before. I love the mission for not selling my privacy but the product at the end of the day is still worse than free.

OPTIMIZATION REQUIRED message Every Time
I loved the app for all of one day. But I cannot use it now without the "OPTIMIZATION REQUIRED: Typewise app to optimize your dictionary." message covering up the keyboard. I have to click out of it EVERY time I want to type! I went to the app to figure out what that meant. There is no answer. I went to Support to figure it out. Your stupid AI bot seems to have no idea what it's about, responding as if I am just searching the internet. It does not even recognize the phrase or know what app I am referring to! I have to uninstall. What a waste of nearly $30!
Its so close to being perfect
Personally, the hexagonal layout isn't for me. But that's fine, i like the option. But a few things bug me. I wish here was a way to swap the period and question mark keys. They feel backwards. The haptics need an intensity option, because i love haptics, but they're way too intense. And also the ability to make the keyboard slightly larger. Its a little too short and cramped, specifically with the traditional layout. But the swipe gestures are incredible, and its very snappy
Subscription for a keyboard
Come on, I am okey on buy the app and have access to all benefits, but a subscription just for a keyboard is insane. $1.99 per month just for a peace of software running on my own phone on my own electricity. Good keyboard but developers wants to retire on a virtual keyboard
Free vs: Paid
The AI or whatever is used for predictive typing deliberately refuses to offer the obvious choice identifying it as a paid option. Rather annoying. Works well single handed
Fat-finger Friendly
I've used the app for about two years, and it has greatly increased my productivity on my phone. The regular keyboard is difficult for me to use. Sometimes an app will spontaneously switch back to the native keyboard (mildly annoying), but this is one of the few apps that I really depend upon, and I have not seen anything that provides a similar "big key" alternative.
Bait and switch
I paid for this app 10.00 for the year and it wants me to upgrade to 25.00 a year just for it to give me word suggestions. This is a standard expected feature on all other keyboards. Don’t buy this. It doesn’t work and is frustrating to say the least.
Best Keyboard for iOS! But could be better.
This keyboard has a lot of strengths compared to other iOS keyboards: punctuation marks are easy to access, the auto correct works well, and it's pretty customizable! But it has really bad emoji/gif integration. No search bar in the emoji menu, emojis never appear as a text suggestion, and there's no ability to add gifs. I would buy the pro version of this keyboard in a heartbeat if I new those features would get added. But they've been requested for over five years now, so I doubt they're coming unfortunately...

Wheres The Globe Icon?
I love this keyboard. But I can not for the life of me figure out how to get the Globe Icon to show up while using this keyboard on my iPad min 7th gen. I use the globe button to switch between my keyboard and my Clipboard app. Can't get it to show up

Love the design, hate the auto-correct
The hex layout is revolutionary, but the text prediction is abysmal and antagonistic. Some text substitutions I fought against just to write this review: hex->her, layout->la out, ios->Io's, prediction->predication I have to turn off autocorrect to keep my sanity. Feature wishlist: completely custom layouts, swipe entry
Love the privacy features, hate almost everything else
No swipe texting. Autocorrect is unbelievably bad, even with the premium option. Using this app to text is SLOW, not because of the hexagon layout but because I have to go back and correct the autocorrect multiple times. Sometimes it'll change the same word incorrectly several times, which is quite irritating. I like the swipe-backspace option, the color options, and the hex keyboard itself. I got this app because I was purging my devices of google apps and I wanted a keyboard that didn't keep key logs, and I will likely keep it until something easier to use comes along with the same privacy features. I won't miss it, unless the autocorrect gets fixed at least. Why does it not have swipe to text? Edit Mar 2026: I give up. This keyboard is so incredibly annoying to use. The autocorrect will change things in wildly incorrect fashion - type a word that might end in s? Typewise will add that for you whether you want it or not. Then, after you stop typing to go back and delete the s, *it will put it back* and make you do it twice. Or, if you have a word ending in y, like "seriously" ? Typewise will change that to "serious y" EVERY TIME. And then do the same annoying thing mentioned previously and try to correct it twice. Another incredibly annoying thing - if you attempt to insert a word, it will often delete the following word because it thinks the inserted word is a replacement. And then will not advance a space without two swipes. It will add spaces inapropriately. In fact, it just tried twice to change that to "in appropriately". But it will also add spaces and/or delete characters at the end of autocorrect d words sometimes. I'm leaving that typo as an example. On the occasions the autocorrect works properly for an actual typo, it will hold the original incorrectly-spelled character string until another typo is made, AND THEN REPLACE THE PREVIOUSLY-CORRECTED WORD WITH THE ORIGINAL INCORRECT SPELLING. Like, who tf is programming this way? I bought the lifetime premium subscription, but it's not the money, it's the fact that this app bills itself as an AI-powered keyboard with strict privacy controls and at the same time makes no effort to be a *good* keyboard. It's a selling point, but the keyboard itself is so unbelievably annoying to use that I'm moving on. I was hoping it might get an usability update after this review, but it did not.
Nice keyboard
Nice keyboard, but comma is hidden so it is difficult to use. No button I could find to switch to the other keyboards. Does not hide when hardware keyboard is attached.
Hex keyboard is pretty sick!
I'm not sure I'll stick with it as I prefer swipe typing and hoped I could swipe with the hex keyboard but good nonetheless!
You have to PAY to protect your DATA and PRIVACY, and for everything else
They advertise privacy and offline mode, but just about every single function in the app is behind s paywall, it's ridiculous and scammy
Just one problem
Full honesty here, typewise is my favorite keyboard. Whatever it is that makes me like it so much, it’s just perfect for me, except for their one big problem. The one feature I would love for them to add- swipe to text. Where you can swipe a word and it registers that word to write it.
High hopes
Really wanted to like this. Bought the lifetime. But it’s not conducive to everyday life. No voice to text. Predictions were worse than apple keyboard or SwiftKey. Spent most of my time cursing it out.
Good, but not as good as the standard IOS keyboard
I love this keyboard, and while I do prefer the hexagonal design to others I’ve used before, there are features the standard IOS keyboard has which Typewise doesn’t, and forced me to switch back. Specifically two: Swipe Typing, and one-handed typing. Swipe Typing is fast, easy, and a feature I use almost constantly. It’s a shame Typewise didn’t have it. Swiping enhances the keyboard’s efficacy by a lot, at least in my experience. Also, the one-handed keyboard is useful for when you have to multitask, or you only have one hand available to type, which wasn’t available with Typewise. Which sucks, because I was just getting used to its design, and it actually does make typing faster if you tap normally. But swiping is more time-saving, and because of my ADHD, I’m always using my other hand for something. • —— • Also — though more a personal wish than an actual issue — it would help if there was a spare section, or option to create a keyboard with specifically chosen characters, or such to individualize the user’s needs. I wanted to replace the period with another symbol (&) since double-tapping already automatically ends a sentence, and I barely used the period key. Some symbols I regularly use required more tapping and scrolling, and consequently took more time compared to the standard keyboard. I also really wanted kaomojis — buuut this is less important, plus it would kill the focused, minimalist design that defines Typewise. That is, after all, what drew me to the app. If we could design our own keyboard, or have a separate section we can put in our own essential characters, it would be a huge improvement! I would switch back to Typewise in an instant if these features were available!
