What people like
- Records are generally accurate for names
- Good selection of historical records
- Better than Ancestry for some users
What they complain about
- iPad screen looks tiny and useless
- Hard to cancel subscription or get refund
- App crashes or won't let you log in
- Expensive with no free trial available
Best app
Way better than ancestry.com - very user friendly
Free trial
Cannot end my subscription as it isn’t showing in my App Store. Can’t end subscription in the app itself. Really feckin’ frustrating.

I’m putting the information in
I’m putting all the information in and it’s not really giving me anything back to work with
Transcript error
My grandmother is recorded correctly in the image of 1939 register, (Abbott) but the transcript has her surname wrong (Penny). It has used the surname of the person in the line above! That has created a considerable waist of search time!
Finding out the facts
Stirna family
Do not pay
I paid for one month and it signed me up and has been charging me!!! I can’t request a refund via Apple and the app says cancel in Apple. Very misleading and I’ll be making a complaint to get my money back!
Clunky, slow app
Every time I use the app I come away less happy about it.
The trial was not possible….without actually buying.
I found it very hard to cancel my joining subscription. I realise it could not help me but had to join to try.
Shady
Well you’ve had your money but can I get onto your site no!!!
Crashes
I’m a paid subscriber but the current version crashes trying to load my tree so is unusable.
Pretty poor app
Not good doesn’t perform well the website version is much much better than the app.
Very disappointed
I got baptism info on the app but using that information on the website it doesn’t show me anything, in fact it says nothing found
Not working on iPad
Working perfectly then, oops broken message IOS 17:7:5 any work around please, deleted, uninstalled, reinstalled, cleared cache and history. I can visit via browser and fine, just app stopped working 😩
No keyboard
Gave up immediately as the app doesn’t work on an iPad Mini - no keyboard input possible.
Subscription
The app itself is good and helped me find interesting things about my family however, I tried to cancel my subscription but there is no where for me to cancel it. I contacted customer services and they told me to go in the app and cancel it yet the app says you cannot cancel it in the app. I have been charged £9.99 since my free trial has ended and the lack of clear instructions is ridiculous.
Slow and limited but good amount of records
It’s a slow app compared to others like this, selecting filters during a search is limited and I wish that the tree was easier to use. There are a good amount of records to look at and it’s nice to see s updates regularly.
Hints
Some great hints from find my past. Thank you.
What the hell?
It won’t let me use my emails no matter what I MADE 5
Can’t see the point
I use the website as a paid subscriber all the time, and it’s very good. The app unfortunately seems to lack all the functionality of the website. I’ll admit I’m accustomed to the website interface but the app is so clunky. Can’t even see the family tree properly let alone do straightforward filtered searches. I’ve deleted the app already and will stick to the website.
Accurate but limited options
Every grandparent that got mentioned was accurate, but 59 pound for 3 months is crazy. I found out that my great grandad was in the 1st world war which is interesting but i wasn’t allowed to look anything into that unless i paid ridiculous money. There’s not even a free trial or anything to subscribe to either. It was interesting and accurate to see there names and what have you but anything interesting about them you won’t get to find out. I get that they was my family but i will NOT be spending 59 pound for them to tell me they had the flu one time in 1428 BC 😮💨
Finding wycherly’s
ABSOLUTLEY brilliant have found a few 1500 ‘s ancestors need to confirm and find ancestors from William 1741 to previous stuck at the moment but have made brilliant progress thanks to find my past x thank you yours sincerely etc
dont bother
downloaded, open the app it says to login but theres no signup button and obviously says my email isnt registered when i tried it? fools cant even set up an app🤣
First Thing
Just opened the app on an iPad and it looks like it’s stuck in a size suitable for a phone. Would have expected it to resize for an iPad screen. Will continue and give more feedback later, hopefully better score also.
It’s ok
I find the app a bit clunky to use and I don’t like that I have to sign in every time I use it on my own device. Nevertheless, it is nice to carry my family history research in my pocket.
Very good
Great information
Waste of time
This app simply doesn’t work properly. I’ve tried numerous times to put in information which doesn’t save properly. Extortionate price for subscription. Better off with Ancestry.
Not suitable for iPADs
Tried the app as I’m getting errors using the website on chrome but it’s useless. I only get a postage stamp size bit in the middle. It doesn’t fill my screen. Looking at the tree is useless as I can only see three relatives at a time. .
Disappointed no iPad version
Very disappointed that the FindMyPast app isn't able to use the bigger layout of the iPad to show more detail. Its main competitor, Ancestry, is already taking full advantage of the bigger screen.
1939
Love looking on this
Confused
App far more difficult to use than website
Hopeless on an iPad
The content offered is great - but it’s really annoying that the app isn’t optimised for use on an iPad. You have a lovely big landscape screen and a silly little narrow picture in the centre. How can you look at a family tree in portrait?! Considering the cost of using FMP this is poor.
Good records but
There are a lot of good records, but there are a lot of transcription errors. There are also too many times when the website doesn’t work properly and throws up an error. The iPad app is disappointing. Why is the area of the screen so small?
Find my past
Useful tool
Problems
Unable to log in. What is happening? I have paid for a year but am unable to do anything.
Struggling to use app
App just isn’t iphone friendly. Struggle to navigate the app, make additions onto the tree & search and view records. The website works well on the computer however not too good on the mobile phone.
Mrs
Expensive!
Ipad access
Very poor used on Iphone and on desk top no full Screen capability glad i am not paying for access to site.
Pointless
Just don't bother. Very limited on what you can do. Find My Past website doesn't like my phone either. Just use it on a desktop.
Doesn’t work like it should
Lack of functionality and doesn’t fit when we’ll used on iPad. Deleted.
Can’t sign in
I can not sign in. Whenever I try to sign in, it loads for a while and then tells “no internet connection” even though I have internet.
