Fair warning my cfii was great and recommended this ground school above all others and i did a lot of ground with him for my ppl but this ground school is definitely my favorite study aid or backup to an actual cfii in person
Almost no videos, do not rely for test
I’m a big fan of Jason’s videos and all the great content he puts out on YouTube. However, I was extremely disappointed with this course. The course is mostly written and has almost no videos, which is why I would imagine most people would buy a course from a YouTuber. The app is great, works great on my iPad, however, the content is mostly text and asks you to read the PHAK. Additionally, the very little videos it does have, are very informal, don’t really use any visuals and at times are borderline unprofessional with Jason just talking from his RV while chewing gum. I’ve also done Kings, and I can say that’s a proper ground school. It’s exhaustive, every single section has videos, and felt very confident to take a test after taking Kings. Just wish Kings had a modern app like Ground School. Needless to say, I was extremely disappointed with this app, specially for being one (if not) the most expensive ground school that also uses a subscription model. DO NOT rely on this app to pass your test. You will fail.
Mediocre At Best
This a good app for private pilot training however substandard for instruments. Also the questions are old and a lot of time do not match the supplement, this app also has errors with sync between iPad and iPhone.

While the app works okay, it’s not as polished as some others. I went through a couple of the trainings and worked through some of the questions and study guide that are good but not the best I have seen. I have been listening to the podcast which is what led me to the app but I think the pricing is quite high for what it is- perhaps if it were a one time charge for lifetime at $300ish but yearly is just too much. Living in Grass Valley must be very expensive.

Frustrating and boring
This app is not going to teach you what you need to know for the written test. It has a very small amount of videos and the rest is just going through the FAA question bank. It’s extremely difficult to read the charts, even on an iPad Pro. Customer support will just tell you to figure it out yourself when you don’t understand how to answer a question. It’s way overpriced for just the question bank and the faa docs (that you can get for free from the faa).
Promising Pilot Training App with Room for Improvement
This app has several positive aspects, particularly its feature that guides you through specific chapters as you progress. However, I have a few concerns. Much of the content seems directly lifted from textbooks, which is acceptable but not ideal. My main issue is with the video content, which feels like an afterthought. I've used other apps like King Schools Ground, which focus entirely on video content - an approach I prefer. In contrast, this app's videos appear hastily produced, as if recorded on a cellphone or basic camera. They're also quite short, ranging from just 30 seconds to 2-3 minutes. Given the price, I expected more substantial content. Another significant drawback for me is the lack of compatibility with laptops. I wish I could use this app or access its content through a website on my computer. That's a big con in my opinion. Despite these drawbacks, I still find it to be a useful tool for beginner pilots like myself who are trying to learn. The app has potential, but there's room for improvement, especially in terms of video quality, content depth, and platform availability.
Great app for ground and flight, used for my ppl, working on IFR now
I really liked the app my local CFI recommended it (he had a coupon for a couple percentage point off full price). It really helped with getting my knowledge test endorsement (via the app). I used it for ground school and my locaL CFI could answer questions as they came up weekly when I was flying Before solo. I ended up missing the following questions on my written: pa.i.ak2, pa.i.i.e.k1 pa.i.f.k2e, pa.ii.d.k1, pa.bi.c.kw, pa.vii.bk2, pa.xi.a.k1. The only improvements I could ask for overall would be a a section strictly on aircraft logbooks , engine logbooks, and AD addressing section . My DPE hit airworthiness of aircraft hard with log books as well. I felt under prepared, but was able to come back. The flight portion was not problematic at all and I think the DPE seemed happy with my performance. (I passed first time so he wasn’t “unhappy” lol)

Great Content, frustrating limitations.
This app has been a very useful tool throughout my aviation journey. The information it provides is clearly created with care and grounded in solid research. There are dozens of helpful videos and references to the kinds of documents you’ll use throughout your training, and overall the content is excellent. What frustrates me, however, are the limitations. First, I’ve noticed syncing issues between my iPhone and iPad, which makes it difficult to study unless I’m in a situation where using the iPad makes sense. Many times I’d prefer to use my iPhone, but I can’t get it to sync my progress from the iPad. Another limitation is the lack of a desktop version. When I’m at home on my computer and would prefer to review material there, it simply isn’t an option. I also wish the flashcard and spaced-repetition system were more robust—specifically, the ability to review all content across the app, not just material tied to a particular section or module. Finally, I wish there were more interactive opportunities to be tested on using sectionals. As a new student pilot, understanding and applying chart information—even within ForeFlight—has been one of my biggest challenges. Although some quiz questions touch on this, they feel very surface-level. I’d ultimately like to see more depth and more content in this area.
Great App!
I found this app through recommendation from watching YouTube videos about flying as I prepared to start. It has been invaluable! The lessons are clear and short enough that you can jump in and do one or 2 even if you have limited time. But they are comprehensive enough to cover everything. I love how they keep updating and improving things. I have been impressed with how often the content is enhanced. I was able to study for my written well and passed the first time. I’m currently doing the reviews in preparation for my check ride.
Misleading!
Like most other apps, clean to be free, this one is also claiming to be free at the first page, but the conditions are hidden on the following pages or hidden sections. Apple makes a lot of money from these apps! I am not so upset with the vendor so much, but Apple, who is in complete control here not doing its job to prevent this kind of waste of time for its clients. Even after installing you don’t see three days free option until you start tinkering with the app, which I didn’t go that far as I was upset for hitting another misleading app. This is as expensive as the real ground school. Why in the world should I use this app instead of ongoing into a classroom which gives me the option to repeat it if I fail the exam for out, I don’t even know if the app is good and my rating is for the misleading information to get people to install which may be a loss of time for some. Also, this review window doesn’t work unless you thinker . The typing panel doesn’t come up automatically when you try to type in to the boxes. Apple should spend more time finding out about these problems, then collecting huge amounts of money from the vendors.
Probably great, but everything behind paywall
The app looks generally great, but there is not even one lesson unlocked to try. One has to get a subscription (which has 3 days trial), but better would be to have the first lesson unlocked so one can actually check it out before submitting a credit card. Downloaded, opened, deleted again. Too bad! Bet the app is great.
Instrument ground school review (1st session)
First time for me as CFI to peruse Jason’s training and I am very impressed with the ease and relaxed atmosphere Jason has accomplished with this app! Most refreshing and I plan to have my instrument students work through each of these. The learn more button and the imbedded references are seamless and much quicker than I can get the book out and find the info!
The Best PPL Ground School
I used TFP ground school for my PPL written test prep and scored a 95% first try! Excellent app, excellent content, excellent test prep, and fantastic flight training videos that are quick and actually teach you what you need to know. For different reasons I ended up used 3 different ground schools across my PPL training and I found TFP to be best! Also, TFP has a fantastic customer support team! 5-stars.
Hands down — the best ground school
Thank you for all you’ve done to make ground school accessible. I successfully completed my PPL checkride yesterday! As I had expected going in, I found the oral portion a lot less stressful than the flying part. Not that the flying was BAD, but your app left me very prepared. The DPE acknowledged as much, admitting he “dug pretty deep” on the oral to find my limits. This is in no way a brag, but an acknowledgement of the best ground-based flight training resource out there.
I’m learning so much!
This method of learning is great for me. I tend to be easily distracted or get really tired when studying. There is just the right amount of personal interaction to keep my attention and keep me progressing.
Transparent and easily to understand!
