Very impressive, modern
I have switched ground flight schools to Sporty’s, the difference is night and day. Very impressive that it is online, iPad, iPhone, Apple TV, CarPlay!
Great content but buggy app
Very often the app freezes and you have to close and relaunch the app because it becomes unusable. VERY OFTEN. .
Visuals need modernization
I love Sporty’s. Many of the visuals and animations are well done. However, I feel the animations from Pilot Institute surpass the visuals from Sporty’s when it comes to learning, especially on weather training, which I have gone to for clarification. Sporty’s test prep is really good as well as the AI CFI tool. 10.92 will not run and on macOS Tahoe version 26.5.2. It crashes 100% of the time.
Glitchy - curriculum didn’t prepare me for the test.
I have found several glitches throughout the app including frozen loading screens. One of my study sessions froze resulting in a 73 because I couldn’t finish answering the questions and was forced to grade the session. Now I can’t delete that session that glitched because although the feature to delete is there…it doesn’t work. There are a few question in the library very poorly worded. I accidentally did the sport pilot course first and lost many hours of work toward my PPL. Switching courses in the app is super confusing. The only reason I knew I did was because my CFI caught the mistake when he checked on my progress. My much bigger problem is the teaching method. I spent hours watching videos and taking quizzes that did not prepare me at all for the endorsement tests at the end. Ultimately I had to practice sessions that I failed over and over until by sheer volume of failure I began getting questions right. I am a professional with a degree and advanced training in other fields and have never seen a process as convoluted as this. All of this would be fine if this service was free. It is not. This is an expensive course that does not teach you what you need to be a successful pilot and successful student. I’m not sure how this course is so highly rated. I will pass my test but it will not be because this course was so dynamite. It will be because I put in many many hours on my own getting ready for my test. Disappointed. Very.
BUGGY!
I can tell the content is of highest quality. However, when simply wanting to review by listening via the app on iPhone, audio and video cut out, app freezes every couple of minutes, have to restart and the cycle continues. Hoping to get some advice as to if this is a known issue or just me!

New update makes chatdpe crash for ppl. I can’t even use it at all as when I get a question it immediately crashes. App was great before but for the amount of money I’ve spent on this app I wouldnt expect to update it and then have it deemed unusable
Needs fine details worked out
Most of the videos are ok just a bit dry. It would really he helpful to add some type of humor to ease the boringness of the subjects. questions and answers are good and similar to the PAR (written test). When practicing on the study prep flashcards some of the questions don’t add any context to the question so you really don’t know what question is being asked and is quite confusing sometimes. Overall its a good study app it is just a bit antiquated when it comes to modern teaching methods.
Great info poor interface
The information is great. When i try to go back none of the videos populate forcing me to back out of my courses and re-enter my classes every time.
Bad practice tests, not broad enough
The videos cover a surprisingly limited amount of the information you need for the knowledge test. Production quality is high but quite a few of the videos are starting to show their age in 2025. The biggest issue, though, is the question bank and especially the practice tests are not representative enough of the actual FAA knowledge test. You’re MUCH better off going with Shepard Air for test prep.
Excellent Resource
As a rusty pilot working on my first flight review in 9 years, I’ve found this content to be extremely helpful. I’ve also purchased the G3X lessons to help familiarize myself with the new avionics. One bit of feedback to the devs: The latest 9.4.2 update crashes whenever I hit the Next Video button.
Not reliable
I’ve used this app for quite some time and recently deleted it from all my devices, dialogs hang, it crashes a lot. I’ve switched to just using the WEB interface. Very disappointed but Sporty’s can never duplicate my issues.
Really Good, but Test Prep needs some work
It would be really nice if it was possible to select a number of questions to study when practicing specific categories, as opposed to only being able to select the categories and being forced to study every question in the bank.
Keine konkrete Vorbereitung
Die Themen werden in kurzen Videos sehr gut erklärt. Den meisten Videos schließen sich Fragen an. Leider haben diese Fragen nichts mit den tatsächlichen FAA Fragen zu tun und umgekehrt bereiten die Videos auch nicht konkret auf die FAA Fragen vor. Ich verstehe den Sinn dahinter nicht. Im Ergebnis Kommt die böse Überraschung, wenn man die richtigen FAA Fragen sieht und das Lernen beginnt von vorne.

Pretty annoyed by the fact that I’ve taken two full length exams (2 hours each) for my commercial and Instrument written exams only to end up with the App crashing when I hit the submit button. That literally represents about 4 hours of my time wasted only to retake them now. It’s happened twice and I’m not happy with it.

Hate the new update....
The update is awful and the new layout is not user friendly. Also I paid over a hundred dollars for the Pilot Workshops real world VFR and it doesn't work anymore after the update. Horrible update and I wish I could undo it. Now I feel like I was scammed into buying a course that doesn't work anymore. I will probably use Kings Schools from now on.....
Excellent Training
Concepts are well presented and easy to follow. Manuels and practice tests at your fingertips. We’ll thought out training.
Too many wrong answers
I honestly expected more from this app. It is expected that some Q and A will take some time to be updated to reflect the new regulation changes but it it unacceptable to have questions that are not reviewed before being published.

Sportys seems fine, wish the app worked better
So far I've just been studying on my computer and everything has been working well with sportys. Annoyance had come though when trying to read some handbooks from the app. My app just gets stuck in an endless loop of downloading. Wouldn't mind easier access to reading for those times that I cant watch videos!

Crashes for test prep
The app needs an update. In the private pilot course when I go to the test prep tab, it crashes immediately.
Perfect for your PPL written
I passed my PPL written solely using this app. 9/26/2024. People say they score 10pts lower. I scored dead on my average. 83. The question bank has to of been updated to match the test because 90% of my test was verbatim to the 50ish practice tests i took. For PPL specifically: this app is perfect for blasting questions AND ACTUALLY understanding.
LITERALLY EVERYTHING COSTS MONEY
I downloaded the app because I wanted to get my pilot license BUT as I started the instrument rating course as my first step, it tried to charge me. Don’t buy, just go get actual pilot training.
Desktop site is much better
This app is fine for what it is. I would say the best functionality of the app is allowing one to download the videos for offline use. Overall the desktop browser site is 99% of the time what I use just because the tools for studying tend to be much better. Also you can click to watch specific parts of a video pertaining to a question on the desktop site. The app is good but could use some work and I find myself gravitating to the desktop browser version even when on the iPad.

Great Information and Videos
Used it for my VRF and got 95% on my written and now using for my IFR.
Mediocre At Best
There are much better and cheaper sources around, the only good thing with Sporty’s flight training programs are they have some of the best practice tests around. Other than that, videos are dry and vague, and the rest of the app is charging you for free resources. I do like Sporty’s the Company for Aviation Products, but outside of that, these courses are good if you’ve learned the information elsewhere and just want to go get class done so you can take your checkride. I mostly used this on PC, I gave it a two star review but they didn’t post it to their website so I chose to review here. The App “Private Pilot Test Prep” on the App Store here is 100x better in every way.
