Dystopia for Reddit reviews
4.1 out of 5, based on 219 reviews.
What people like
- Excellent for users with visual impairments.
- Runs much faster than the official app.
- Interface is clean and free of ads.
- Simple design without unnecessary clutter.
What they complain about
- Reddit links often fail to open.
- App crashes randomly while you scroll.
- Login process is broken and confusing.
- Video sound does not work properly.
Amazing simplicity
Thank you for the recent update! This app is so helpful.
Sound doesn’t work
Decent app all around, but the sound for native Reddit videos hasn’t worked for months. There’s also no way to report bugs like this inside the app.
It’s great
Can y’all add a general search instead of just a search for subs?
Constant 403 errors
Used to be great but now it throws constant 403 errors.
Can’t log in with after glow
App is great to view Reddit with but, ur after flow log in to be able to reply to posts keeps giving errors pls fix
Customization on colors/ Home page add
PLEASE add home page. Thank you for the hard work. Best app for reddit, less adds and clutter. Wish there was home page only all, and popular are defaults. Customization options for colors on threads, like Apollo had would be nice in the theme settings.
Why do you need a Reddit account to use this app?
So I was told about this app through an iPhone users for the blind group list. I was going to get it. Or should I say I did get it. But the problem now is that trying to access the information I signed up for. I used my Apple ID and signed in. But I still have to have a write account? Why? Also, why am I not able to get the notifications for things I signed up for to be notified about? I’m giving this one star because this needs some serious accessibility issues worked on. Why do I need to have the official Reddit application on my phone?
404 errors
Nice, lightweight client with no ads/in app purchases. Only issue is when there’s a link to Reddit content within a comment I can’t open it because it just gives a 404 error. Would be nice if there was at least a way to copy the link so I could open it in my browser.
Great app, but abandoned
This is a great, simplistic, and accessible implementation of Reddit, but it’s slowly falling apart. It seems to have been abandoned. It currently lacks support for the new version of Reddit links, as well as being unable to open Imgur images, which means that quite often you’ll find yourself reaching dead-ends while browsing. It’s still worth using, but it seems to be fated to break completely eventually
No iPad Version
Just a single iPhone sized rectangle in an ocean of wasted blank space. Just supporting multiple columns is too much to expect?
Best Reddit App
Thank you so much for the update to fix short links.
Lacks so many features
Too many features that you wills expect to be in an app are missing: - can’t go to a thread from your profile by simply clicking on it or through options. - audio follows the button switch on your phone, so you need to switch your phone off silent to hear videos. - clicking all or front page sometimes just doesn’t work and freezes the app - zero visual separation of anything, it all is so jumbled together it’s hard to see why this is for the visually impaired - can’t touch scroll through most videos That’s just off the top my head. Not a fan of this app at all and I’m unsure how this is app is beneficial/ designed for visually impaired individuals.
Found a potential replacement for Apollo App
I’m like this a lot. It’s not assuming, it doesn’t stick a big logo of itself in the header like another app. It’s just does Reddit and does it well.
It’s okay
Could be better has some issues. Likes to randomly close on you so that’s pretty frustrating
Hurrah!
Looks like this app is being updated again!
Can’t link to reddit
I sign into reddit, get the link to dystopia page and no way to link. No buttons, links....nothing
Great features, not so great UI
Im very happy this one remains free to use, but the UI is not great. If font changes, and spacing of posts + the design language could be modified it would make it perfect!
Decent app, but no more updates
Seems like the developer has abandoned this app. Every now and then, I'll be scrolling and it will randomly crash and close out. I very rarely use the native Reddit app and this is a great alternative that still works.
Great app
This is a wonderful application. it's very accessible with voiceover, for the blind. I am totally blind, and it's wonderful to finally be a part of reddit. I heard all third party apps for this site have disappeared due to reddit's updates and fees? I truly hope this app stays active. All the other apps have disappeared from the app store. And the other app I tried downloading spits out a "fatal error." I really hope this can always stay.
Doesn’t let me sign in.
I log in to Reddit via browser and accept the permissions, but it doesn’t return to app and log me in via Dystopia properly. Restarted app, revoked perms and retried several times, still didn’t work properly.
Really good start
Firstly I hope we get some updates soon. The things that would be great are have the alphabet on the right side like Apollo did so you can quickly get to where you want to go. Other big thing is to have it show what subreddit it’s from when scrolling through the front page in a different location cause it kinda just blends in and is hard to read
Generally okay app, but ridiculous amount of permissions it asks for
This amount of permissions the app asks for if you sign in with your Reddit account is completely unnecessary and granting that level of access to any app shouldn’t be required.
Fantastic app
I swapped to Dystopia when Reddit started to kill third-party apps. This doesn’t have all of the features of the official app, or the pre-IPO unofficial apps, but it runs about ten times faster and is incredibly simple to use. There is so much potential for this app. So much. I really want to see this app flourish and supersede the poor experience the Reddit IPO gives to mobile users. Please make it happen.
R.i.p apollo
Due to the whole reddit third party app purge, great apps like apollo for reddit has been shut down. Fortunately, this app works really similarly to apollo. While some things could be fixed, such as video bugs, I definitely prefer this app over the official reddit app.
Issues clicking links
Links to reddit in comments and posts that are reddit links fail to open, throwing 404. Other times, reddit links will open in safari. Rather annoying.
Great app for visual impairment.
This app is great for people with a visual impairment. Thank you Dev for making this. I guess some people are upset that it isn’t a 1:1 clone of whatever app they used to use, but for people who were basically ignored by prior app devs and Reddit, this is a great way to make Reddit less frustrating.
Good Reddit Client
Minimal, fast, I’d like some additional customization for the swipe gestures and settings for media playback but other than that it’s a great app.
Not working in iPhone 15
Was a good app on previous phone. Now getting error: “The data could not be read because it isn’t in the correct format.” Nonfunctional.
This is good
Simple, light Reddit app that isn't the trash official app. Love this.
Excellent
Good app
Missing key features
No popular, no multireddit, no favorite subs, no updates! Weird whirring/cricket sound when viewing news articles in app.
Salvation
Seemingly the only alternative to Reddit’s official ad, I mean app… For that alone it is worth 5 stars and more
Minimal is beautiful
Great job.
Straightforward and accessible Reddit app
What’s not to like about this streamlined and clean interface? The accessibility features are top notch and the app runs beautifully. 10/10 - Many thanks to the creators - so glad this exists!
Potential
It’s getting 4 stars for now because there’s potential here. It doesn’t take much to be better than the dumpster fire that is the default Reddit app, this one is off to a good start. If it ends up 1/10 as good as Apollo it’ll still be 1000 times better than the default app. If it gets to that 1/10 level, I’ll definitely bump to five stars. I have high hopes, although I also fully expect Reddit to find an excuse to kill this off too.
