Great service, App needs fixed
I have been receiving Dinnerly boxes for about 3 years. I tried one other service for a few months but came back to Dinnerly pretty quickly. I love the meals and the ability to filter by various types. The app used to be one of my favorite apps and one of the reasons Dinnerly was better than the other service. But something changed in the last week in the app. The app now only works in portrait mode. I use a keyboard case for my iPad and prefer apps in landscape mode. Please make Dinnerly available in landscape mode age.
Missing ingredients, recipe cards, and shipments
I subscribed for about a year and would regularly get boxes that didn’t have all the ingredients didn’t have recipe cards or delivered damaged or not at all. The recipe collection used the same ingredients so I ended up getting really sick of eggplants and zucchinis and sweet potatoes but I didn’t have a lot of other choices.
Some non food related issues
I’ve been using Dinnerly for several years now and I’m quite happy with the food quality and choices. I was going to give this a 3 star review based on secondary issues, but I felt the food plan alone deserved the 4 stars. OnTrac is not a very good delivery service. Delivery instructions on file and printed on the label say “deliver to back door”, which is in the shade. They continue to leave the box on the front porch, directly in the afternoon sun. The porch is elevated with 5 steps, I’ve caught a few drivers on camera standing below and simply tossing the box onto the porch, splitting the box open and occasionally damaging the contents. App issue. I use this app on my iPad, and read cooking instructions from the iPad when cooking. The latest update stops the app screen from auto rotating. The ingredients screen never rotated, portrait only, which I’m fine with, but the screen would rotate when you hit the start cooking button so I could rotate the screen to horizontal and lean it against the wall behind my cutting board. Now it stays in portrait, which means if I try to lean it against the wall or set it upright it’s sitting on the charging cable coming out of the iPad. Now I have to sit it flat on the counter so I don’t damage the charging cable and it’s taking up space needed for cooking. Could you please update the app and bring back auto rotate. Thank you.
App useless
As a first time user, I’ve found the app quite frustrating. It continually times out, spends a lot of time loading, and can be difficult to navigate. Simple tasks take Longer than they should because of the apps issues. I’m hoping the recipes and meals are better than the app experiences so far, as the ordering experience hasn’t made a good first impression.
STOP THE ROTATION
We and other families talking in online forums whom use your app find it highly annoying having to rotate from portrait to landscape after selecting the meal to prepare and feel that the app should be in landscape format entirely. STOP THE ROTATION NEED!
Thank you
Meals are on time. Food is fresh. Recipes are tasty. Cooking instructions are clear.
Started great, turned into a complete mess
This was great for a while but has turned HORRIBLE - food does not arrive, no communication, or arrives spoiled and late. Would not recommend.
Good
The food and especially amount of vegetarian options is great. However their freezer packs usually leak, and the goo won’t come off of anything.
Went downhill so fast
I’ve always had shipping problems, but that’s generally a FedEx thing. However, they forgot to ship my box and I didn’t get a tracking number until an hour after I was supposed to get my box. By the time the box got to me, two days late, it was warm and the ice had melted. I requested assistance to see if they felt it was safe to eat. No reply. So they don’t even take food safety seriously. It speaks volumes when you need to go back an entire year to find a positive review
Blank Settings Pages
Many of the settings/menu pages open up to a blank white page, so I have no choice but to use the website to make any edits.
General Comments/Questions
1) it would be nice to have a general questions/comments page in the app. 2) We have an air fryer now. It would be nice to have some alternative cooking options on recipes. Maybe a toggle switch so you can choose on different recipes. Depending on the recipe it could be choosing between the stove or air, oven or grill, oven or air. The ingredients shouldn’t be any different so it would just take a little reworking of recipes and some programming. A nice perk that wouldn’t cost much to provide.
Great for vegetarians, but cancelled
The number of tasty vegetarian recipes is surprising and really great. Unfortunately Dinnerly has been on a downward trend for awhile in terms of on-time delivery and supplying the correct ingredients. I’ve since cancelled my subscription
Good Service—App needs one improvement
I’ve used Dinnerly for a long time now and I am often happy to recommend them to my friends and family. I particularly like that I can purchase eight servings with relative ease since I’m cooking for a large family. The app itself is functional, visually appealing and easy to use for any nominally tech savvy person. My only complaint is the lack of Recipe PDFs on the app. They’re available on the website and should be accessible and printable from the app too. If I’m cooking and getting my hands messy, the last thing I want to do is tap or scroll on my device to read the recipe. I set up my orders on the app and would prefer to print the recipe from the app too. Otherwise, great service and great app.
Rip off
They did not let me choose a meal just made me pay for 2 meals k would never eat and I’m allergic to one of them. They won’t fix it either
Too Many Issues
This was my first time ever trying out any kind of meal delivery kit. I work nights and a single mom, so trying to meal plan can be an overwhelming process. Pros : The first box was cheaper than most other meal kits that I looked around for. Cons: The company charged me before I even placed an order. Other companies let me decide if i wanted the box or not, and when I declined , I didn’t get charged. The site was confusing , and I tried multiple times to edit the meals. While other sites allowed me to add food allergies, Dinnerly didn’t , and I ended up with meals in my box with lemon recipes. I am deathly allergic to lemons . I tried multiple times to edit my meals in the time frame I was given, and I was pushed with error codes every time. I cancelled my membership immediately after signing up due to this, but was still going to get my first box regardless. I got my box today, and the packaging wasn’t separated by meals live I’ve seen other peoples boxes from other companies. I ended up having to throw away over half the box from the lemon recipes, and the lemon touching other ingredients that weren’t packaged individually. I tried this to save money, and ended up spending more money on groceries to replace what I had bought from Dinnerly that I couldn’t eat.
Easy to make with excellent taste
As a college kid you think meal services are to expensive than came Dinnerly. After having over meal services while back home while parents were paying I can say the taste is absolutely on par with great instructions that make cooking easy. Instead of paying $70-$100 a week on going out or fast food get Dinnerly and enjoy some great tasting home cooked meals. Perfect portions as well
Horrible Meal Kits
I’ve tried for 3 weeks and each week at least 2-3 meals in my 4 meal plan were wrong They don’t send the orders you pick and ingredients are always missing
Start cooking feature.
Since the last update, the app won’t allow me to open the “start cooking” instructions only the “cooking steps” This doesn’t allow the screen to stay open while following the recipe. It’s just annoying having to tap the screen every couple of minutes to stop the phone from locking.
Used to be excellent, not so much now
Having consistent delivery issues where boxes are left in public lobby where they can be stolen instead of delivering to my apartment door. Also getting low quality, half rotten vegetables. They always reimburse you but it leaves you stuck with making last minute runs to grocery store. The whole point of subscribing to a meal kit service is to have the grocery shopping done for you. Dinnerly needs to improve asap.
OK
Good app. But I won’t recommend it because the portions are way too small. Also, it is much more expensive then just doing groceries (I know, we pay for the service, and I appreciate it). The only problem for me is that I would have to cook extra rice and salad for every meal because. Also, it is much higher in calories then what I would normally prepare, because the recipes use a lot of butter, Mayo and sauces.
What sorcery is this
I hate cooking, I hate cleaning the mess, when I cook the kitchen explodes. Everyone knows I suck at cooking. However for the last month and something I’ve been getting these boxes, I’m astonished about it! It’s crazy how good the meals are! My partner repeats! He’s all over the moon and I am soo quick with it I have time to clean my little mess because is just a little mess! Never in my life I imagine such a great app. I love it!
Worst meal subscription
Worst subscription box ever. Packaged raw meat on top of produce and meat leaked all over. Tried emailing twice with no response.
Love our weekly Dinnerly’s
We have tried many of these meal boxes, but the ease of recipes and app with recipe cards made this our ongoing one. However, in the last few weeks, we’ve noticed that the app is not working as well? We used to use the ‘start cooking’ link, which gave an easy overview of steps needed. This link no longer works? We can still see and follow the recipes, but we loved the other view. Can you please fix?
Meals are nice, but numerous issues with service
Our first box arrived late, so the ingredients sat in their box for 2 days. When we did get them, the meat, fish, and dairy were still “cool to the touch” which makes it ok I guess? However, 2 of the 5 meals were missing key ingredients which meant we couldn’t make them without a trip to the store to buy said ingredients. Not a great first impression. We’ll keep going for another week or two to see if it was bad luck, or an actual reflection on the company.
Start cooking broken
Start cooking button no longer works removing the feature of keeping phone display on been like this since last update
Excellent Value Super Convenient
I enjoy just how quick and easy it is to organise my meals for the week. I normally purchase 5 meals a week so I have one for dinner and take the remainder for lunch the next day
They send the cheapest food by default
If you don’t select what meals you want every week they will send the cheapest meals they can to you. The app knows what you enjoy already when you go to pick your meals but that isn’t factored into what they send by default at ALL. The food sent is based off of the 7 very general preferences and meat selection only. Not worth $75! It was originally $55 when I signed up. Just avoid this scam company.
Start Cooking button stoped working
App is great but start cooking button no longer works
Question:
Why do I need to download another app to find out when my shipment is arriving? I’d also give this subscription more stars if they were better about dietary restrictions and substitutions, also if it had a better UI, but I imagine that factors into cost. Hungryroot is better in those aspects, but is also twice as expensive. Is what it is.
Service is great, app is not
The app has never been the most intuitive or easiest to navigate but has generally been functional. Since the last update, the “Start Cooking” button no longer works - so no step by step for the recipe. You can view the whole recipe at once but that view won’t keep your phone display on and it’s easy to lose your place. I’ve noticed a lot of people complaining about this issue but it STILL isn’t fixed weeks later
Simple and light
I’m enjoying how easy the meals are to prepare, and how tasty they are with few ingredients. Well done to the chefs! Also I’m impressed with the quality of the fresh foods. And I like the fact that there is little waste!
Unprofessional, rude, scammers
Utterly disgusted. It made a second account without my knowledge and charged me twice for two separate boxes. One I never even authorized. And when I reached out to customer service they proceeded to yell at me and then refused to admit their wrongdoing and refused me a refund. Will NEVER use them ever again. Not to mention the constant missing ingredients, late packages, and my orders would consistently be changed back to the default meals that I did not choose
Love it!
I love this meal delivery service! They have so many options including dessert and breakfast. I love that they offer low carb, vegan and vegetarian options. Most of the recipes have been delicious. Here are my thoughts on how this meal delivery service could be perfect: have an option for swapping out proteins. Also, I realize you generally don’t send spices to keep costs lower but you can include those ingredients in the recipes that we have to provide because some of meals have been very bland. I’ve had to look up other recipes on the internet to add more flavor to some of the meals; for example the chicken pot pie. No spices were included or even mentioned besides salt and pepper. Other than that this has been my number one meal delivery service. So great to have all the ingredients sent to you instead of running around from store to store finding all the ingredients for a recipe!
Was good for a few weeks
The app is great and easy to use, no issues there. The first few boxes were great. I was spending less time at the store and didn’t have to worry about what to cook for the family, just picked my meals on the app and followed the instructions. Great time saver. But lately it’s just one thing after another and I’m tired of dealing with it. Foul smelling broccoli last week. Spoiled grey-colored ground turkey the week before that. Missing ingredients one week, one time they didn’t send nearly enough panko for the Katsu and I ended up having to run to the store. Just now I open my box and find a couple of wrinkled softening bell peppers. I know this is a budget friendly service and didn’t expect award winning produce but why would anyone send visibly spoiling meat or vegetables to a customer? You’re going to give my family food poisoning. So that’s it for me, canceling my service after this review and going back to good ol fashioned doing-it all-myself. It’s the tried and true method for ensuring that things are done right.
App barely functions
Really not sure how they manage to break their own app so often, but everytime there’s an update something else goes wrong with the app. As of the latest version I can’t load recipes or see the correct lineup of recipes I’ve currently received. If you’re going to make thing’s contingent on using the app, it might help to make it actually functional????
Karyn
The only thing that I’m not real happy with is your PEAS. Too big, I prefer baby peas
Bad all around
Three times my box came like it’s been through war, tape not securing the box properly holes and rips throughout the box. Absolutely ridiculous. I wish I can show you the videos.
Easy
Well organised delivered on the day and on time thank you
Won’t work anymore
The app use to be good but now it won’t let me open the recipes to go step by step how to cook them. I click start cooking any nothing happens. Time to use a different dinner service. 👎
App fixes?
I love dinnerly and the food is delicious, but since the last update, the Start Cooking button no longer works. Fix please! Thanks, appreciate you guys!
ADHD friendly and also super yummy!
I’ve been getting Dinnerly boxes for me and my husband for several weeks now and haven’t had a disappointing meal from them yet. It’s hard to say whether my favourite thing about each dish is the taste, or how easy and quick most of them are to cook. This service is great for those with busy lives, people who don’t like to cook or spend much time in the kitchen, and even those with ADHD like myself and my husband. It really takes the stress out of cooking and makes it much more straightforward, and helps me keep track of all my ingredients for meals and know for sure I have everything I need. Also, the app itself is great. Love the layout and design, and it’s simply and friendly to use. Haven’t had a single issue with it.
BUY IF YOU WANT A MESS, INJURIES, AND THEFT!
I received a box from Dinnerly roughly a month ago, the food looked yummy but the ice pack inside was exploded!! When I opened the box i saw EVERY piece of food was ruined. The sludge also covered my entire kitchen floor and burned my hands and toes from the cold. I’ve put in multiple customer care requests (with pictures!) and haven’t been contacted yet! and this was at-least a month ago!! I usually don’t leave negative reviews but I spent around $80 to deal with a huge mess and suffer a minor injury. I work hard for my money and it’s ridiculous to have it wasted. Huge waste of time, money, and energy. PLEASE refund me this is ridiculous!! And btw I had to go hungry that week because I spent all my money on this ridiculous box. PLEASE give me a refund!!!!!
Need printed recipes
Hi. I have an old Skool /anti-tech husband & a son who has Autism who prefer printed recipes. Any chance of getting printed recipes in the box please? Also - need Dot points in instructions please! Thanks
Same problem with the BUGS
What happened to the the Start cooking button?? And while we’re at it, how come there is no app support when you click on the help for app support? It just takes you to Dinnerly‘s website with their frequently asked questions. Nowhere is there a place to give feedback to the developers… so leaving these low star reviews is the only way of getting their attention, unfortunately.
bug
In this latest version the recipe steps won’t actually open when I press “Start Cooking.” I have closed and reopened the app many times and still have the same result. The iPad version is working correctly but iPhone is currently broken
So easy
I like that it takes the stress out of deciding what to make for dinner at the end of the day. It also lets me cook meals I wouldn’t normally make.
Terrible customer service
Have made mistakes the last few boxes. Started small missing item here and there then a damaged package. Now a whole box just didn’t get delivered and they can’t do anything until a manager can talk to me and that could be in up to 24 hours. This is my food. Not just a shopping item. What should I eat since this is my grocery?
Would not suggest this dinner service
I tried to save some money with this service. When I first saw it, I was so happy that this seemed like the only one that wasn’t overcharging for their services. Right until the first box arrived. First box arrived 2 days late. I picked the box up and it was leaking. Brought it in and I was already nervous that everything had gone bad (because it was 2 days late.) somehow one of the meat packages got a hole in it and leaked all over everything. Most of the potatoes they sent me were rotten (they were rotten when they put them into the box.) I took pictures of everything and threw it all out because it was covered in “meat juice” and emailed their company. After having to reach out twice, I was credited the box amount back to my dinnerly account. So I gave them another chance because mistakes do happen. Next 2 boxes were both 2 days late. They started trying to save money on packaging so by the time the next 2 boxes arrived, all items in the box were warm. And half of them were not the ingredients I needed for the recipes they sent me. Don’t waste your time or money with this service. Going back to grocery shopping and recipe hunting online!
Missing Ingredients
Received my first box (3 meals for 2 people). Of the 3 meals, 2 were missing 1 ingredient each. Not a very good first impression. The app & web page also still show that the order is “on the way” when in fact the box was delivered at 11am and it is now 8:30pm. As a result I suspect the shipping status glitch may be why I cannot select the meal and notify them of the missing items. I did cook one of the meals today and it was good (thankfully I already had a red onion). But if missing items are a thing with this company (as others have mentioned) a cancellation may be in the future. We’ll see what happens with the next delivery.
