Nostalgia Heaven - New Comer’s Delight
I remember these back in the day. I loved mine. Only had a couple but went through them endlessly. When I got older and had kids, bought a couple for my son. He tried them but lost interest quick as it just didn’t hold his attention like modern gaming. That was about 10 years ago. Fast forward to present day. Cleaning out his nightstand and found the “Citadel of Chaos”. Picked up and started playing/reading again. Still loved it. Looking for an easy/modern “Adventure sheet” thinking that surely with todays tech there has got to be something automated out there. Did a web search, found a few things, then searched the App Store….WOW….JACKPOT!!! My friends….let me tell you, if you ever had ANY small inkling with these books in the past then this app is a no brainer. If you were even remotely curious about these books then there is no better way to get started than this app. If you are a new comer looking for an old school narrative adventure. Then I am delighted to tell you…your search is over. This app has done this experience perfect. PERFECT!!! It is so awesome. Old school feel with all the convenience of modern tech. Bravo to the developers, they couldn’t have done no better. So many cool little touches like atmospheric background music and effects to smooth old school dice combat with a modern touch. Works perfectly. Adventure sheet is lit!! So Awesome! Bookmarks to save your progress. They thought of everything!! Comes with one free adventure, and the books of the past can be purchased for 2.99 a piece! A steal!!! Bought Citadel of Chaos straight away and started my adventure. The developer has successfully created the experience I had as when I first played as a kid. So awesome. Thank you for that. Friends…do not hesitate, do not doubt. Lost my purchases
Logged in to see all of my purchases wiped and recover purchases does nothing.
Slow Updates
The way the books feel in the app is pure nostalgia. They practically drip the 80’s. They are, in short, awesome. However, the updates are very slow. As of writing this, it has been over a year since the last update was made and the last books added. I don’t know if this means that these are all the books were going to get, or if things are just going slowly, but be aware of this. Either way, the app is worth getting.
Cannot buy books
No matter what I do, the app will not let me purchase new game books. Whenever I try, I get an error telling me to connect to the internet first. I’m on my home wireless which makes no sense…
Skill check bugs
First book I paid for is Starship Traveller and there’s skill check bugs. I get prompted if I roll under my skill value (11) I pass. I roll 7 and get skill check passed popup. The only option that activates is the failed check path. This happened on page 326 but there may be others.
Childhood nostalgia
I grew up on these books. Being able to play them on mobile is a blast of nostalgia. And the extra features like maps and collectible artwork are a great extra touch.
Purchases are temporary?
Purchased house of hell. Played it. Went to play it an hour later, but I had to repurchase? It’s going to cost money every time I play? Too expensive!!!
More soundtrack options
I would like more soundtrack options. Maybe one that fits into bustling markets or cities would be good, or something with ocean sounds for seafaring portions. Overall though I’m loving this app!
Doesn’t start
Im giving this two stasrrs because of the nice startup screen. Unfortunately that’s what all I’ve seen of it so far. The screen comes up and there’s appropriate background sounds but nothing happens- if tappes, swioed, aind drugged every spot on the screen and I got nowhere. I waited an hour for the app to load but but it didn’t. It might be good, but I certainly wouldn’t know.

Great free adventure book
The free adventure book is a lot of fun. Unfortunately the free story doesn’t make use of adventure books’ nonlinear structure instead choosing to obfuscate the only viable linear path. I didn’t buy any of the other books. I recommend the free download, but I wouldn’t suggest paying for the others. Making use of the bookmarks feature will save a lot of repeats so I recommend using it.
Don’t want to purchase again
I’m disappointed that I already bought 4 of these individually but since those apps aren’t upgraded to the new OS if i want to play them I need to buy them again in this app.
Good, almost great
The best parts of this experience is how it evokes the feeling of the original books. But that’s also probably it’s biggest drawback, too. Flipping pages is interesting to start, but grows tedious over time when I’m used to simply scrolling my text like I’ve done everywhere else for years. The stat sheet is interesting, but to have to “pull it out” to see more items like inventory took a while to figure out. Thankfully, the app does offer some interesting items like auto-map generation that you’d otherwise have to do manually. Having to create your character through the intro pages of the book is slow and unintuitive, probably best broken out into its own “character creation” screen per book. And I’m kinda shocked that the app doesn’t have ANY achievements, which take advantage of the digital format. Ex: Make it through a book successfully, unlock an alternate cover image. Make it through a book without rerolling your character, unlock new flair for you avatar. There’s a deep well here to draw from. The thing is I get that nostalgia and intricacy can make for a compelling download, but to have me coming back to look for new books to buy means I have to really enjoy the experience, and there are just a lot of modern niceties that a digital device allows for that this app doesn’t take advantage of, relying mostly on the “how can we make this look like a teenager trying to play this on their overcrowded desk in their room at home.” Which has its place, don’t get me wrong. I just wish there was a more modern mode too.

Great Platform with A Flaw
A while ago I bought several of the game books when they were stand alone apps but there is no option to receive credit for these in this app. Seems like a slight oversight to me!
Bugs cause constant restarts
Almost unusable due to constant exits to iphone homepage on ios 11.4. Can’t recommend downloading or buying books using in app purchase.
Crash after dice roll
There’s an unfortunate crash that’s possible any time the dice are rolled on screen. The game saves often, but it does make it a bit frustrating to get through.
Fantastic
A great way to relive some of Livingstone’s books. The fast rolling makes the fights quick and satisfying.
Fix the glitch
This would have more stars if I constantly wasn’t kicked out of the game. When I’m rolling the dice for a battle it kicks me out and I can’t keep going. If this is fixed the game would be so much more better.
Fun but short
Bloodbones was fun but difficult. Ended up looking up how to win. City of Thieves on the other hand was fun but easy. Not worth 4 bucks.
Good idea but lots of bugs
Loved the books growing up, but both the client and the books are riddled with time consuming bugs. Give it a miss for now

A real nostalgic trip. Unfortunately additional books are a little on the pricey side.
A great way to enjoy these classics
The interface makes playing these games a joy. They could be a bit of a chore to play back in the day with pen and paper. My only hope is that some day the remaining books are added as they’re mostly out of print and very difficult to find at reasonable prices!
Cant play because of crashing
Literally cannot finish book 1, im Fighting the warlock in the end, and the app just keeps crashing on dice rolls. On a 12 pro Max. This has happened on mutiple saves. Dont buy

I love the stories and the puzzles, overall amazing. Although it would be better if there was more than only 1 free story.
Good Idea, unsatisfying implementation
So, as a long time fan of the Fighting Fantasy Books, I was so very happy to see them being turned into apps by Tin Man Games. I immediately went out and purchased the entire line up. I thought it weird they were being done as separate apps, but whatever. Today, I saw the Fighting Fantasy Classics app, and though “All in one place, this is even better” and immediately downloaded it. Opened up FFC and immediately noticed that all the book apps that I’d previously purchased were locked. Well, that sucked. I re-downloaded one of the old book apps because maybe it needed to be on my phone to unlock.. Nope. I clicked on one of the locked books, because maybe it’s just a UI glitch..(I QA software for a living)... a price point appeared, so I stopped exploring because I didn’t want to accidentally buy the book again. I went into Settings and tried Restore Purchases.. didn’t appear to have any effect... I then noticed something, clicked on a couple of things (I being deliberately vague here), and suddenly I was in one of the books. Went back out to the main UI and everything still appeared locked. Now, I’m left wondering... ... did I accidentally re-purchase one of the books? (don’t think so but it’s a possibility) ... are the books I purchased via the individual apps actually unlocked, but not appearing so because the UI can’t handle my case, (or is designed to lead me towards repurchasing)? ... did I actually just get around the DRM with a few button clicks to avoid a purchase.. is this software really that poorly made/going to be that buggy? Overall, happy to see the library being condensed into a single app, but so far my experience with that single app has been very unsatisfying.

Took a looong time to actually beat the first adventure, but it was fun going down the various paths. Wish the other stories were not quite so expensive, but I’m sure they are worth the price!

Hours of fun, reliving the old days of playing with the books! Periodically, it would crash but bearable enough to get enjoyment out of it.
Excellent transition
If you've grown up in the 80's with this series and you don't have the books anymore, this will be a no brainer. Even if you have the books, the transition to the app is flawless with added benefits. The ease of the adventure sheet digitally rendered is great. The combat system is enhanced with the re-roll ability and bookmarking is great too. I really hope the developers are able to add more titles (and maybe even the Sorcery set.

No fun!
Great resource
I love it. It streamlines and simplifies the process of playing these game books without sacrificing any of the original content or even illustrations. My only complaint is that there simply aren’t enough books to choose from. I’m not saying they should have all 60+ titles available right off the bat but for ages now there’s been a grand total of... 10. Just give us more books to read!!
Good but not as good as the original FF games on the IOS
Good but not as good as the original FF games on the iOS. Unfortunately those no longer work on iPad. Would like to see more and drop the price to 1.99
Good Old School Fun
For the pen and paper fan who needs a little fix on a plane ride or train. I have this on PC too and it’s better with the music up and larger screen space. I was born too late into the 80’s to have experienced this myself but am a player of many tabletops and pen/paper games and this is plain good fun. The art is awesome.
Disappointing
I so wanted to check out this game, but got nothing. Loved these books as a young kid. Thought they’d be awesome on iOS platform, but nothing loads. I had to reinstall just to load history and rules. But no books will load. Hopefully it is a problem that is fixed soon.
UI Needs Work
I managed to get the text large enough to play comfortably, but pictures cant be zoomed and that can be a big deal in parts of books. Good app though, worth trying the first free book!
Buggy. Work in progress
Glad to see the developers are quick to recognise bugs. Had a few issues with books not updating (pull the update!). Seems like a fun trip back to past RPG books. I enjoyed it so far.
