Great app to track pool chemistry
I have using this app and continue to find unique features such as effects of adding chemicals, playing what if to achieve CSI targets, knowing how much chemical I used in the past year, etc. It is full of features that other apps do not have and they continue to improve upon it.
Can’t record more than one log?
I picked this up, to have something to track what my pool readings were the last time I tested it. For the first recording, it seemed to have worked (though, the interface was a touch janky). I went to record my results a week later, and all I get is a box that says I need to have premium in order to record another reading). I can’t even simply override my old results. Just, blam, a box saying I need to upgrade. Waste of time.
Good but Room for Improvement
Overall, I like what this app does and I think it is definitely worth the cost of the subscription. I love having this app to keep track of pool test results and to easily calculate chemical additions needed. Love that it is designed to help with SLAM, too. My two requests are: 1. Please add limited account sharing between (at least) two people. I want to be able to “share” my pool with my husband so we can both **add** and view the data for our mutual pool. It’s so annoying that only one of us can “own” the pool data 2. Graphs. Please, please, please add the ability to view data as graphs over time. Seeing a monthly graph and an annual graph would be so interesting and helpful. Anyway, I like and appreciate the app, hope it will continue to improve
The app seems handy, but lacks features and support
The app seems very handy in helping you figure out what chemicals to add to keep your pool, clean and beautiful but my biggest draw to the app was the ability to set reminders for things like backwashing and filter clean out. The issue is I don’t receive any notifications regarding these reminders. I checked both the app settings in iOS and in the app itself and don’t see any notification options. I’m not sure why it’s called a reminder if it doesn’t remind you to do these tasks or that these tasks are overdue. I tried to reach out to support via the App Store listing but get an error message saying I’m not allowed to access their support portal. If I can receive push notifications regarding these types of routine maintenance task, this would be five star app.
At least it works on the iPhone
I have been using this app on my iPad for years. And it has worked very well with most of their enhancements being pretty useful. About two months it just stopped being functional on the iPad. The moment you tap any field and enter anything it freezes and is just utter garbage. Fortunately it still works perfectly on my iPhone so I have had to shift over to that which is why I gave it three stars.
Simple and effective!
I use the free version for my own personal pool, but I do have to say I love how simple and effective this app is. As others have commented, there is probably room for a little bit of improvement, but I really enjoy this app and appreciate the simple design.
Desktop version is better
For whatever reason, this does not give the same recommendations as the desk top application. Desktop app said 56oz of autistic acid. The app said 8 oz was needed. Follows the app and needless to say….needed 56 ounces 🤦🏻♀️
Kinda Glitchy
Since taking over my pool maintenance, this app has been beyond helpful. My pool tech was clearly doing bare minimums. However, app is a little glitchy. I have an SWG and I can’t get a recommendation on chlorine treatment other than running my chlorination at a higher %. Troubleshooting says to toggle back to free chlorine, but that doesn’t work and it’s annoying. Also, when a reading is within a target range (like calcium hardness) it shows I’m outside of the actual number I may have provided. Either let us put in ranges or respect the ranges provided!
Logging adding chemicals doesn’t work
This doesn’t work if you log the addition of a chemical from inside the testing screen. Let you log the addition of a chemicals in suggested amount or different amount claims it saving doesn’t actually save anywhere. You must go to the home screen and log the addition separately and save all your current numbers separately. Pretty major functionality for the developer to not know doesn’t work
Good app, but won’t sync
We cannot get the app to sync across devices. The app is still useful, but the inability to sync across devices is irritating. One adult has to be in control of all the chemicals. Other than that, the app works exactly as described and is very helpful. It would be useful to have a link for support in the app. I could not find one.
Test Logs & Recommendations at your fingertips!
The title says it all; test the water, record results, follow the suggested chemical additions. Buh bye pool store testing!!
Pointless
App is completely pointless. It will not log anything, even if I lie to it and tell it added something, it does nothing. Every category says “no test logs”.
Prefer Old UI
I’m still not crazy about the new color scheme but do like that you’ve restored some of the old features like number of days since last test and target ranges, so thank you for that. But why don’t I get the smaller squares on my overview tab to show all my results on a single page without scrolling? I’m using iOS and a screenshot in the iOS App store shows it this way. Plus a friend using your android version has it this way as well.
Interface issues
Style updates seem to have made the interface buggy. When adding acid for pH, it kept displaying the wrong chemical after I selected something else, or displaying one chemical with quantities for another.
New Update
Appreciate the update, but not sure this one is easier to use than the previous layout. And all my backup disappeared when I updated! It would be great to have the higher chlorine value listed in the SLAM settings when you’re dealing with mustard algae too.
Exactly what I was looking for
Worth every penny. This app is a godsend. Takes all the guess work out of keeping a balanced pool. Love the “Effects of Adding “ calculator and the “Timeline” feature. Pool school is also a great reference.
App ok-IMPOSSIBLE TO CANCEL! 🤬
Way too hard to cancel. It’s been years and still being charged.
Latest update
Latest update has a bug. Example when trying to input. Target free chlorine it does not allow to erase the digit that is currently there and just keeps adding more digits.
Requires Subscription
I can’t update my pool’s test results after logging my first values. Entering a new log requires a subscription and there is no way to update the values of the initial log. The inability to do this makes the app nothing more than a glorified math chart, so I see no point in using it.
Ahh, the update we didn’t need
Nothing worse than a perfectly awesome app getting an unneeded new look. Simple and easy ‘improved’ to clunky and more clicks.
Best Pool App
I can’t love this app enough. I’ve been a subscriber for over 7 years. Easy to input pool test results. The app tells you what is in or out of range and gives you the amount of chemicals to add per volume and type of pool. Must have for every pool owner!
Sure wants me to buy premium
If I try to do ANYTHING it tells me to upgrade to premium. It let me enter exactly one pool test result. Now? Constant prompts. Looked everywhere, as I assumed the free version would be one pool, one test result per day. But apparently it’s one pool, one test result ever?
Great app but lost history
I love this app. Have used it for several years to calculate and track everything for my pool. Only bummer is an update from a month or so ago wiped my history. I emailed for help but haven’t gotten a response.
Change to menu
I liked it when all of the chemical adjustments needed were on 1 screen. Now I have to click into each test result to see what chemical to add.
Stupid simple
I was a new pool owner. Still am. However I don’t feel like it. Between buying a good robust Taylor kit, this app, and some hour a week, I know how to manipulate and manage my pool to my liking. The app makes the math easy and it is verified by the results I get when I follow up after chem additions 24hrs later. Can’t be happier with the app and its results. Only thing I want added is the ability to toggle the alerts for “out of ideal range” off. If I’m setting my ideal target already, then benchmark the alerts to that,or allow us to toggle them off,or allow manual ranges to be set. Otherwise I’m satisfied.
Cheap, wrong, misleading
This app is literally wrong in some cases and misleading in others. Best avoid if you care about your pool!
I love it, but …
This app is terrific. It will track everything you test/add to your pool and will tell you the exact amounts of what to add. But it’s totally NOT intuitive. It needs more user friendly options such as directions on how to record test results. I get it, but they just changed the app with no notice. This is a great and very helpful app once you get to know it and figure out its nonintuitive screens. Needs per screen helpful hints or hover hints. Yes, I’d recommend because it’s the best one out there for managing a super clean pool.
Where is my fave app?
What happened in the update to my pool app? I should’ve never updated. Layout is awful. ☹️🫣
Less Chemicals, More Fun
This app is from TroubleFreePool which is a non-profit forum of pool owners who want to help other pool owners enjoy beautiful, clean swimming pools without using more chemicals than necessary. They are super knowledgeable and very helpful. This app helps pool owners know exactly what chemicals are needed and how much of each chemical to use. Great app for a great forum!
Lost all my data
Upgraded to a new phone and lost ALL my historical data. Apparently you need to manually backup and restore data, unlike just about any modern app. Will not be paying for this any longer out of principle
New look needs a couple of tweaks
I’ve used this app for a few years now and it’s great. Nice work on the new framework and UI; it looks clean and modern. There are a couple of little things the old UI used to do that I find myself missing: 1. The logs/timeline used to give a “time ago” measure instead of just a direct date. I found that really helpful because I log when I add water. Whenever I add water again I check the logs to see when the last time was. Before, I could quickly see: “10 days ago” and know immediately that’s about normal without having to do any date math in my head. Even if it took another tap to get this info, it would be super handy. 2. The dashboard screen used to show the ideal ranges in each box. It’s useful to have the check mark to see that I’m at a good point, but it was also nice to compare that to the range to know if I’m getting close to going out of range. Now it takes an extra click on each box to get that when it was available before at a glance. Thanks for all the hard work on this app…I’m constantly recommending it to others with pools!
Update is awful. Completely different app.
Why change perfection?! This is not progress, I been a devoted user for several years and this app was an indispensable tool that was unmatched by any other pool app but this radical update has changed this into something not considered as progress. They layout is cluttered and not any easier to navigate. I hope the developer is reading these comments about this feedback and taking a deep thoughtful consideration into returning back the app to it's format and design. I really dislike this completely NEW app design and already starting to look another tool format like this was originally. Please change it back..
Amazing app
Keeps my pool crystal clear, tfp is the best resource for all pool related questions
Bait and switch
It let me add a single log of test results and then wants me to subscribe to an app that provides basic functionality. I tried deleting the log and it still wants a subscription before allowing another log. It’s a pretty bad look for Trouble Free Pool.
Great app
Would be cool if you could customize your own safe ranges (to comply with health department ranges for public pools)
Updated and lost historical data
The new version automatically installed and now none of my history prior to the update shows in the timeline.
Good update
The return of some sorely missed features is great - such as the top text ideal/recommended summary. UI is overall easier to read also. I use the app multiples time a week!
App is slow now
This app used to be great. It has been super slow to open lately and unusable.
New version not so great and data gone
The old version worked just fine. This new color scheme and user experience is lame. No idea why there was a need to change it. Worst part is they nuked all the historical data when they launched app version 507.
Great for tracking everything; chem descriptions
I’ve been a paid subscriber for several years and find this a great way to track my test results and chemicals added. The summer 2034 update adds very helpful descriptions of each chemical in the menus where you log what you’ve added to the pool. One minor request: when logging chemicals added, I’d like a unit type for “count” or “pucks” so I can log the number of trichlor pucks added instead of specifying it in ounces.
Well darn
I read where TFP said the app works with the current iOS 18.5, but I’m having the spinning wheel of death when I try to make any notes or add chemicals. I was able to successfully add my test results, but nothing past that. Please get this corrected, this truly is the best app ever. We have had a gorgeous pool every summer with the help of TFP, PoolMath, and TfTestKits. Thank you!
