Terrible reader
On a basic level, it can’t even download PDFs in a way that the text can be read. Sentences in words are all stacked together without space in between them. As a result, the reader just spells out sentences instead of reading word by word. It’s even worse is that it leads out components of sentences cuts off paragraphs. The reader is terrible. The voice is not smooth and cannot distinguish acronyms from words. I wish I never paid money for this garbage.

Good but some words are badly pronounced
This is actually an app for turning PDF and other files into audio files. However, there are some glaring mistakes with pronunciation of very common words like “reached” or “sunshine” that you think would not be difficult to pronounce even for an AI bot but they apparently are.
Accessible, intuitive, and easy to use
Came across this app and now absolutely love it! I find it to be the easiest way to save webpages and news articles and other things I want to go back to and look at and use as references for things like books movies other lists of information that I want to keep for the future

Great, but has a few bugs
I’ve been using this app for a few years and overall it does 90% of what I want. The only gripe I have with it is that it doesn’t play very nicely with AirPods. It seems to interpret the in ear detection as a toggle so that sometimes when I take out one of my AirPods from one of my ears, it will just start playing. Occasionally it also starts playing on speaker when I put my AirPods away.
A good concept but….
I really wanted this app to deliver, because the idea behind it is genuinely strong. Having a simple way to load and listen to saved content, especially for things like road trips, is exactly what a lot of people are looking for. Unfortunately, it hasn’t quite lived up to that promise in practice. CarPlay integration is the biggest issue. It’s unreliable, often failing to load saved files, and at times not playing anything at all. When you’re on the road and relying on it, that kind of inconsistency becomes frustrating very quickly. The text-to-speech quality is another drawback. The voice feels quite robotic and lacks the natural flow you would expect. Compared to newer tools, the difference is noticeable, and it makes longer listening sessions harder to enjoy. I recently used the app on a road trip after preparing over 30 files in advance, which should have been the perfect use case. Instead, it became more of a distraction than a help, with repeated issues interrupting what should have been a seamless experience. There’s a solid concept here, but the execution needs refinement, particularly around stability and voice quality, to really make it dependable.
Rating glitch
This app has asked me to rate it SEVEN TIMES!!! It use to have a four star rating, but this constant need for validation glitch has cost the app a star

Very good
Very good TTS reader with decent voice pitch setting. I love that you can export audio files. My only wish so far is that there was an option for correcting pronunciations.
Not great
I’m surprised by the high reviews. Voice is so robotic with incorrect pronunciations. There are instructions to upload from other platforms (I was looking for Dropbox) but the instructions talk about buttons and features that aren’t there? I want to test it out fully before I pay for the full version. I need an app like this - but this one is not good.
There are still 2 bug
The "Select All" Button in the last 2 versions does not work. Before many versions, the "previous title, next title" buttons of Dynamic Island did not work in gray. === 最近2个版本“全选”按钮不起作用。 很多版本之前，灵动岛“上一标题，下一标题”按钮灰色不起作用。

Not quite
Whilst it does a pretty good job for a much more reasonable price than most it stubbornly will not play through apples AirPods and jumps sections of text which is annoying if I am using it to help me learn text
Okay it’s the best
Only because the “Are you enjoying this app” pop up keeps assaulting me every time I open this app and desperately hope it stops after I leave a Written review along with my forth 5-star review, YES I might use this app a little too much for reading my fics. Biggest perk is it’s free even if the AI voices are a bit rough. I did find a way to upload a slightly better one but still not the greatest. I’ve gotten used to it. I like that it saves my stuff in one place. Again it’s FREE, so beggars can’t be choosers. Room for improvement, but don’t think that’s the goal for the creators of this app because I’ve had it while and haven’t seen many changes. If you want delivery for the cheap price of FREE, this is your reader app.
Free is good, paid is not
The free version is good for what it is. You get a good voice, from iOS, and some good features. The paid version does not add any substantial features unfortunately. The very advertised AI voices simply require you to have api (that you already paid for) to use here which is not ideal. In other words, you won’t get that feature if you do not have api, which is a core feature emphasized by the developer as a selling point. This is not a very good practice imo. Edit: developer response is worse than the problems that the app has. They should at least respond well instead of: this costs less so it should be less quality than the other apps. Like dude, we know but you have claimed better quality for less and did not deliver. Now, as mentioned elsewhere, you can download eleven labs, not the pro, and get the same quality as the paid version for this. Or simply, as I did, write a simple code to download Azure voices and listen to books on you device. This is not worth the money, even if it is a fraction of the cost, unfortunately.
The best deal around
I have mainly used two reading apps before this one, ElevenReader and then Capti. ElevenReader was free, then it started trying to change insane amounts of money, so I had to find an alternative. I used and loved Capti (which was completely free, and unlimited) for a while, but then the company shut down the service. I was heartbroken about it, as I have very long days and love having something to listen to besides just music. I was searching for an alternative that wasn’t over priced for simple text to speech, but also wasn’t extremely robotic and unlistenable. Then I found Speech Central on the App Store, and while I didn’t have high hopes, I tried it out. I was very pleasantly surprised, not only are the voices free, but they’re good! After a few days, I bought the $10 upgrade, which is a one time payment! A rarity theses days! It’s compatible with car play, which I greatly appreciate because I drive long hours often. I have noticed a few issues / glitch’s here and there, such as there being soft static in the background of the audio when used in the car, but other than that the rest are very manageable and barely noticeable when they do happen. This app is 100% worth the $10 payment, and I hope that the dev(s) keep up the great work!
Aaron voice Removed
I listened to this voice a lot when listening to stories on here unfortunately it seems it has been removed as an option from your catalog, cause you care to explain why you removed it and how they were returned it quickly It’s the only voice audio that is bearable and is accurate to certain words and phrases.
It’s a good app but help is lacking
I am trying to use this App to scan a few pages of a book and I am not sure I am doing it right… I do not know when to turn from one page to the next. The help section is incredibly short and has no information on how to use the scan feature.

No Russian
It’s disappointing to see that Speech Central includes support for numerous lesser-spoken languages, yet Russian—spoken by over 250 million people as a native or second language worldwide—is completely absent. This omission is hard to justify. It raises questions about whether this decision is based on linguistic priorities or influenced by political bias. Language should unite people, not be subject to exclusion based on current geopolitics.
Great app but my repeat mode does not work
Great app but my repeat mode does not work (it is disabled) and I can’t find a way to activate it. I even subscribed to the premium to be able to use that feature but it doesn’t work. Can the developer help me? I would like to be able to repeat an article or multiple articles over as long as I need (I use this app for my affirmations ) can you help me ?
Broken Apple Watch functionality?
I could not get my Apple Watch Ultra to play a 3MB PDF after many tests over multiple days. Watch support was the reason I downloaded this app.
Good enough I bought it
It’s good. I bought it 15 minutes after using it. But then I continued to use it. I imported my study bible. Initially I was about to complain that there didn’t seem to be a way to change or “flip” pages. In the sidebar, I selected seek and that was where you could click next chapter, previous chapter, etc. That’s not very intuitive. It also crashes or hangs. Still pleased with the purchase.
Ideal solution with ethical business model
One-time cost is refreshing in a world of subscriptions and it works great! Just make sure to download “Premium” voice in Accessibility settings. Sync with desktop version is seamless & super appreciate the privacy profile (nothing shared with Developer - everything local to device by default).

Uses 3rd party voices (Apple, Microsoft, OpenAI, etc). If you’re not familiar with the Spoken Content, you might make my mistake and assume it’s only old, barely intelligible voices. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Spoken Content > Voices and download some of the Enhanced and Premium options. MUCH better experience.
Many bugs, slow to fix, have to be an engineer to use AI voices
No reason to use this app now that Eleven Labs has a reader with better quality voices right out of the box. They are not even charging for these AI voices now and have tons of voices to choose from. Their app also isn’t frustrating to use because of bugs in basic functionality. I have to frequently restart speech central to fix bugs using the AI voices that I pay extra for…not any more.
Am I missing something?
I download this app to use or text to speech, but it is no better than your native iPhone text to speech. The voice is like a robot. It’s not good unless I’m missing something.

Broken after update
The latest update has broken the app for me. Pdfs i try and upload now says “Error. Data couldn’t be read because it isn’t in the correct format”. Um…its a freaking pdf, which this app claims to be the king of. Even my old files (which are ALL pdfs and worked fine before) now display this error message. Whatever, moving on, its not like there aren’t a million other pdf readers out there.

Slider is broken, voices are built in
I’m unable to slide to any position in the document as the progress slider doesn’t work. Record on the built-in iOS voices, which are awful for long-form text (as of mid 2024). If you’re tech savvy and have enough time on your hands, you can sign up for API access on a third party such as Azure and plug in your credentials, but that’s not a great user experience and will leave you risking expensive platform charges that can’t be seen in this app. Something like that needs to be built-in to the app and charged as a subscription.
One-time Purchase for the Win!
This app has been incredibly useful to me and it is such good value for a one time purchase of $9.99. I’ve tried other TTS apps before but you can’t beat that price. The voice is good and settings are very customizable as well. I’ve read hundreds of books and articles with this app.
Cannot use without freezing
If you want to take what I wrote as an attack, that is your choice, but it doesn’t support your claim that I was rude. As a paying customer, it is irrelevant to me if the incident is isolated or not. That is not my concern, and definitely not within the scope of responsibility on my part. What is my concern is that my purchase was not working correctly. If you take issue with my communicating that in open forum, perhaps you should make sure your contact forms are functional. They are not. I tried several times to submit a complaint quietly, but was unable to do so. It’s probably not great customer service to attack a purchaser of your product. ***************************** I asked for a refund and was denied. Appealed and denied. I won’t apologize for not being pleased when an app that I willingly paid for doesn’t work well enough to be useable. I wasn’t asking you for a refund. I was informing the readers of my comment that I was unhappy enough with this app to request a refund. Your app may be good, but if it doesn’t work, then buying it is a risk that costs real world money. It’s not rude if I choose to express unhappiness with an ill-working app, no matter where I choose to comment. Every time I try to scroll through my booklist, this app freezes up. It must be force quit and restarted but it never fixes the issue. Refund requested.
Great App
I had so much study to do and only gas time to read on an evening. This was a struggle after longest was soon asleep. Thus was the almost perfect solution. Whilst occasionally translating nonsense and splitting words it is still a great option. It means I can read on the go and repeat and repeat until it sinks in!! I love this app. 🙏

Consistently *skips* text as it reads, making the app pretty much useless. Sad.
No longer working after update
It was one of my favourite apps prior to the most recent update but now clicking share on a website does not add it to books and articles and I haven’t been able to listen to anything at all.
A life-saving app
This app has been a life-saving app. I’ve always been an avid reader, but lately my concentration for some reason has been stifle. This app allows me to read whatever I’d like to read easily quickly and efficiently. I thank God for the inventors of this app you have been sent from the Lord.

Be careful with the archive!
On the whole I love this app, I have it on all my devices, but the functionality is best on the iPad. The major issue is the archive, I accidentally swiped my document into the archive, brought it straight back but lost all my bookmarks and annotations which means I have to listen to the whole book again. If you could fix that it would be the perfect app.

Cependant lorsque viens le temps de lire un livre ou un plus long article, il est impossible de s’y retrouver puisque le visuel est modifié en formet « texte » nous y perdons toutes références et pas moyen de retrouver sa page.
