Feature request
Still loving my Tempest. Could you add a graph view of the stats you’re already tracking, like barometric pressure, humidity, etc? And if possible could the widgets show some of these other stats? Also tapping the widget to open the app seems to always crash/hang the first time since ios26.
Worked for 10 hours
I guess I have to use the online version!? The app worked for about 10 hours and now is stuck in a loop of telling me my station is locked to another account, but works fine online so I assume the app has some problems.
Rainfall Rate on the Current Conditions
Can y’all add the rainfall rate instead of the day before’s rainfall So instead of it showing yesterday’s rainfall it would show the running rainfall rate like: 2.50 in/hr, so that I don’t have to go to the chart to look at the rainfall rate from a few minutes past. What I’m trying to say is keep the rainfall rate more current. For the wind speed, could y’all update the graphing system because it doesn’t want to show all of the current wind speed and direction, it just shows the one minute average of the recorded wind speeds and plots them under one minute’s speed like for example, at 1:00PM the wind “speed” was 10 mph where there was more wind and less wind than that. Next, the lightning detection feels and seems off, where it’ll record 5+ strikes in a second or two and then it’ll not be there and it’ll say the last strike was either 1-2 minutes ago. Lastly, the radar map will not let me zoom all the way in to my house, if I would try to do this it would push me back about 2-4 miles away, or in other words it would show the rain or snow for another place when I want to zoom into my house close up to see what the conditions are. Could y’all add a feature where it would show the next 1-3 hours radar instead of the previous 1-2 hours, so it would feel like a true past/future-cast. And add a hurricane track where we can see where a hurricane is going to hit. So on the next possible update y’all should focus on these things by making the system better and more user friendly. All in all it’s a great system, but with a few things/bugs to be updated. That’s why I am giving 4/5 stars.
App is focused on the wrong thing
The user interface is not particularly well-designed. They’ve built the app around the weather forecasts, but that’s not why I bought this weather station. I have plenty of other weather forecasting apps; I want to know what’s happening right now in my backyard and that should be front and center in the app. You can get to the current data, but it’s buried. Plus, sometimes I can’t tell whether a piece of data is from my station or from an internet source. For example, if it’s raining/storming the rain rate, lightening and wind should be dramatically front-and-center. Furthermore, the notifications need some additional intuitive controls. I ended up using ChatGPT to build me a different app. Thankfully, the data is available via the API.
app WAS great
What the heck happened to the lightening distance feature? It used to show an independent line for each strike and the distance from the device (multiple strikes would stack, however). Now all we get is one vertical line for the day all stacked making it impossible to tell distance from device. Come’on Gainesville boys- you can do better. Upgrade the sketchy app. Signed, beta guy.
The great weather app
I’ve been using this weather station for almost a year, and my experience has been excellent. The installation was simple, and the data it provides is very accurate and consistent day to day. I only had one issue during this time, but Tempest’s support team was outstanding. They responded quickly and sent me a replacement station at no cost, which really shows how much they stand behind their product. It’s a reliable, well-designed system with top-notch customer support. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quality weather station.
Bad WiFi
I have over 50 devices on my home network that connected to my WiFi the first time but not the Tempest Weather Station. I have extenders in several locations so signal strength is not an issue. I followed all their troubleshooting recommendations with no luck. So at this point I will be returning it.
Good app needs temperature alerts
This is a nicely designed app with a good user interface. Given that many people purchase a weather station to monitor temperatures, it seems like a big deficit to not have the ability to set high or low temperature alert alerts through the app.
Hangs and crashes
Since last update. App stalls option opening, the man just crashes before showing weather data. Then opens fine on second launch. V5.40 (180)
Great hardware. Meh software.
I love my Tempest weather station. It integrates really well with Home Assistant and Alexa for hyperlocal forecasting. But the app is really in need of a makeover. It looks like it was made for iPhone 3G… things are arranged properly and it never crashes which is great, but it’s not using any modern design language. I hope to see better widgets and some Liquid Glass effects in the future.
Great Weather Station
This is a great way to see what the weather is at home and at any other place you might be or want to know. You can save locations in your browser to look at later without having to search the Map. I also have the Light Map. It also has everything on it that is on the Tempest.
Worst forecasting
Still can’t believe there is no Apple HomeKit integration. Ifttt is $$$ now. Also, the forecasts are never correct. It’s going to rain in 30 min. Nope now it’ll rain in 45 min. Nope… I give up on this app and hardware.
Time changes
I'm surprised that you haven't permanently fixed zoomed out graphs of temp etc at 3 hour hash marks to start a day at midnight after DST vs standard time chsnges. After a change the graph day starts at 11pm, then 2am, then 5am, etc
Seems as though you need to be the owner?
Would be great to view a tempest with a public URL.
I thought this was free?
Why does the Apple App Store want me to pay $7.50 to download the app?
One suggestion
Overall a quality weather station for weather nuts, but PLEASE swap the high and low temperatures
This app hallucinates
This app makes up fake data when the sensor fails. Also The tempest hardware is junk, breaks down after a couple of years.
Needs Apple TV app
This is a good app and I especially like the Apple Watch complications. The blaring missing feature would be an Apple TV app. I would love to have this as an option for people staying at my vacation rental.
Update broke the app.
Today’s update broke the ability to view the data. When clicking the top, instead of seeing the data, a page explains Nearcast Technology with no way to exit.
Family and friends share
I mean it’s a awesome app for an young little guy like me! The only thing I wish I could do is share the weather app with other people so my family or friends can look at the weather too.
Great app for my station, and weather’
Been a user for many years, since WF was in crowdfunding. Love the product and app.
Base stopped connecting
After many years of use this stopped working - can I connect seams like the hub
Here’s a software enhancement suggestion
Under settings, there is the tempest map option where you can look at all the stations around the country with the toggle between weather or stations. It’s kind of annoying that you have to keep zooming in trying to find out where you’re at to look at other stations in the area. Since the homepage of my station already has the radar integrated, why don’t you integrate the tempest weather station button on that page ? because it’s already zoomed into your location?
Buggy
Station data takes forever to refresh. Please fix.
Needs an update
Considering the price of the weather station one would assume that there would be a way to add data inputs and that there would be artificial intelligence added into the user interface to expand the overall performance
5*
Breeze to set up, well designed w/ good interface, & responsive service.
Total Junk
Please fix this useless app! This app is useless! It’s nothing like the very good mobile app. The mobile app at least shows the days rain total. Does not show last lightning strike, rain total yesterday, no brightness nor solar radiation etc. UNESS you make the app 50 inches wide on your screen!!
App crashes
This app would be great and a 5 star if it wouldn’t crash. I love my Tempest Weather station. The app, however, not so much. Every time I try to open the app it immediately closes and I need to open it a second time. So 2 clicks every time. I use the map…try to zoom in and the app crashes. It’s not very stable.
Too Slow to Load
App used to be great, open the station and see all the data. Now it takes for ever to refresh. Some time the data is blank
Wind speed, not accurate
For the most part, this weather station is pretty good, everything seems to work fairly well except for the anometer. This thing is so far from accurate it’s not even funny. I have it mounted 12 feet above my second story roof. The wind here is gusting easily to 40 miles an hour as I typed this and this thing hasn’t registered over 18 mph. Completely unacceptable if I could return it, I would.
Works great
This app and the accompanying weather station work great! Easy to install, configure, and connect to Rachio and Weather Underground. If you want to know your hyper-local weather, this is the way to go!
Fix it or remove it!
I waited for yesrs for an integrated map, however a drop it and forget solution is unacceptable. It constantly stalls, locks up, etc., anytime there’s anything but a default view. Unacceptable!
Apple Watches complications gone. Widgets done work. Needs a few updates to make it great
Well, you guys ruined the watch complications. They no longer work.m since last two updates. Ugh. Widgets stopped working too Please add air quality and pollen.com alerts and resdings on to the app so I can get rid of these other crumby apps
Recent Updates
Most recent updates broke the app. It won’t update unless you force close and reopen. Watch complications aren’t reliable now either? Did anyone test this? No fix?
Rain is rarely accurate
I bought this primarily to keep track of rain on a remote property I manage and unfortunately the rain totals by event on average are off by 50 to 100 percent. I have a manual rain gauge that I installed next to the station and if we get a heavy rain the station might read 1.5 to 1.75 inches whereas the manual rain gauge will be filled to the .75 inch mark. I wish there was a way to self report for my station to help it calibrate the sensor closer to reality.
Top notch station and app
I’d contemplated buying a tempest weather station for months since last major hail storm destroyed my previous weather station. I received / deployed the tempest station 1 week ago. The station and app provide a robust data collection. I greatly appreciate the battery charge info. I cannot attest to rain accuracy as we’ve had no rain since installing. The hardware and tempest mounting provide a clean, non-invasive mounting. Very pleased in all aspects of equipment and app thus far.
rather worthless- cant adjust rain totals- never correct!
Do how difficult is it to allow station owner the ability to change rain totals?? This is NEVER correct against a Davis OR CoCoRaHs basic rain gauges. Without this ability? Its a total waste.
Bruce
Love it. It would even be better if an app was added for Apple TV.
Latest update reduced performance
The last update did something to affect the app’s ability to update information. The late March changes caused the app to stop getting information from my station. If I force stop/start the app it starts reading the information but after a couple of minutes the app starts saying the reading are several minutes/hours old. Restarting the app refreshes the readings.
Radar
I love my station but when it comes to the app I wish you had future radar. I have to use other app’s to see if a storm is going to hit us clip us or miss us. If you do have it please someone help me to find it
Useful for Day to Day Activities
I have 4 Tempest units deployed and find them very useful for day to day activities and fro planning. The app provides a lot of info and the notifications for lightning and rain are great. Best station and app I’ve used.
Unreliable
Unreliable app and weather station, even when it is online.
UV forecasts
Great hardware & app. Could you add a UV forecast? Thanks
does not show rain or wind. logs out constantly
very underwhelmed by the app and station. every time my computer or phone is shut down the app clears my login that I need to manually re-enter. Still has not shown rain and wind seems to be very far off actual.
Current Location No Longer Available
I can see my sensor location and weather but I can’t get my current location weather info displayed either on cellular or WiFi. It says can’t connect to server. I have done everything to fix it but no luck
Nicely done app for the Tempest personal weather station
Quick information on demand. The historical information from my personal weather station has been very helpful. And it’s nice to know actual conditions at my home via the app, especially when traveling.
Widgets stopped working
The latest update impacted the widgets on iPhone/iPad and also the Apple Watch. They are all blanked out.
Missing Dark Mode and some UI changes
Great job with the hardware and great start to the software. First of all, please add dark mode in the app. I have mine on an all day display. It would be nice to take advantage of timed iOS dark mode. Second, you give us the ability to click on parts of the Home Screen in the app but nothing making it obvious what details will be provided… the top where is shows temp, conditions, and wind speed… an obvious button or something to let people know it will provide more data if clicked. Otherwise… great job and these small changes will help streamline the UI for all users… basic or advanced.
Let down by details
In overview it covers a lot, but some details are quite disappointing. Weather is generally quoted to 9am (or 3pm) for good reasons. Making a day start at midnight means the daily minimum is useless - you cannot tell which night the min occurs on, nor what the min is for any given night without going to hourly data. They have refused to add an option to quote mins and rainfall to a daytime setting. The graphs are sad. When you zoom out to see a useful period, it hides most of the detail. The graphs don’t overlay multiple useful variables except for “rain rate” which unfortunately dominates the rainfall graphs.
Impressive but Feezes
It’s rare that I give a 5-star app review, but this one is deserving. A very impressive weather station technology and great app. Update: Changed my rating to 4 stars, as it seems the device does not detect very light rain very well. The signal to noise trade-off for the haptic rain detection is not ideal. Update: App frequently freezes and have to close and re-open it.
