Terrible Quality, Terrible Service

Constantly missing ingredients (even the main proteins!) and the ingredients that do arrive are poor quality. They sometimes offer a very small discount but it doesn’t cover the cost and inconvenience of getting the ingredient yourself. Honestly this service has made my life more difficult and the whole experience has been a disappointment. I’ve never received a correct shipment. The shipments themselves are often late.

Once great now who. Knows

The last three weeks have been less than half of the order ingredients and the half that does arrive is damaged and spoiled with packages haphazardly thrown together and spilling the customer service is horrendous and the same automated response of an unforeseen issue can’t really be unforeseen if it’s been the same pattern for a month the service has been dwindling for some time now it’s definitely time for a change

Great app. Even better meals.

I’ve ordered from a handful of these meal kit services, and for me, Marley Spoon is the best. Others either repeat the same meal choices over and over, or use the same spice/seasoning packs with every meal. Marley Spoon really does offer new, exciting meals every week. You’ll never get bored! And final product is 🤌 Cannot recommend enough. I mean unless you hate non-boring food 😝

App good. Service bad

I keep ordering 26 items per box, 20 meals, 6 market items. I keep receiving about half the items I order due to “supply constraints”. Then I have to email support about missing items and they give me $30 credit. Like I’m missing $100 worth of food, but hey, here is $30 for your troubles. And then that $30 is credit, so you need to buy another box to get any use out of it. And go figure, next box has the same issue. Order is never fulfilled 100%. Maybe smaller boxes arrive without issue. But then don’t offer an 18 meal box when you cannot fulfill 18 meals. Don’t let me add more meals when you cannot fulfill those meals.

Not the best

The premade microwaveable dinners are not that good, and I had constant problems with the wrong items being delivered or being inedible. It didn’t help that FedEx delivered my boxes late several times, and often in terrible condition. Customer service was not particularly helpful, and sent me form letter answers which did not address my concerns. When I responded, they ghosted me.

Need more interesting meals with ingredients I wouldn’t necessarily have on hand.

At first, we were really excited about our meals from Marley Spoon. But lately they have become very mundane and more like express meals. I can pick up chicken and green beans, or pasta and sauce, at the store. And that’s not very exciting meals. The Mill seem more like for working with kids who want a real quick meal. We like to cook together and take our time. Hopefully meal choices will improve.

Great meals

Loving Marley Spoon. It takes all the fuss out of meal planning and shopping. We are eating healthier too. I’ve learnt to check the nutritional info when selecting meals to avoid the really high fat choices and have been pleasantly surprised by how good the meals are. It’s rare for me to modify dishes as they’re quite tasty. Once once the delivery was delayed by one day and I’ve never had anything missing. Would definitely recommend.

Need to optimize app for iPad

It is super annoying to open this app in iPad and have it force you to vertical orientation. Too Many Issues, Do Not Recommend

I was a raving fan of Marley Spoon for more than five years, essentially since the company was getting started, and I’ve watched it grow tremendously over that time. Unfortunately, I’ve also watched the quality of its operations and customer service decline to the point where I finally cancelled my subscription. Over the years, I have experienced just about every issue you could imagine from a meal-kit delivery service: wrong recipes, missing ingredients, spoiled or moldy food, delivery delays, incorrect items, billing issues, overcharging, and promised credits that were never actually applied. I kept giving Marley Spoon the benefit of the doubt because I genuinely loved the service and wanted to remain a customer. I kept telling myself things would improve. Instead, they progressively got worse. The final straw for my family was receiving an entire box of meals that we did not order. Not one incorrect meal, the entire shipment was wrong!! Making matters worse is how extraordinarily difficult it has become to get meaningful customer service and in contact with a human representative. Trying to reach someone by phone often means dealing with automated/AI systems that send you through a loop without actually resolving the problem. Email support hasn’t been much better; in my experience, responses can take days or even until the following week. When you’re dealing with spoiled food, an incorrect delivery, or a billing problem, waiting that long for assistance is simply unacceptable. I’m also extremely concerned about the billing discrepancies I discovered. After reviewing my credit card statements from approximately the past year and comparing them with the charges amounts displayed in the Marley Spoon app/account, I found multiple instances where the amount charged to my credit card did not appear to match what was shown by Marley Spoon. There were also occasions when I reported spoiled or moldy ingredients and was told I would receive an account credit, only to later discover that the expected credit had not been applied. For a subscription service that charges customers, there needs to be absolute transparency and accuracy when it comes to billing. What makes this especially disappointing is that I wasn’t a customer for a few weeks or a few months. I stayed with Marley Spoon for more than five years. I remained loyal through countless mistakes because, when everything went right, I genuinely enjoyed the meals. But eventually loyalty has to go both ways. I have now cancelled my subscription and moved to a competing meal-kit service, and so far the difference in reliability and customer service has been significant, like day and night. Marley Spoon has a good concept and some genuinely great recipes, but the complete operational failure problems, lack of accessible customer support, repeated fulfillment issues, and my concerns regarding billing ultimately made the service impossible for me to continue using. After five years of being one of their biggest fans, Marley Spoon has permanently lost my business. And frankly, if I were Martha, I would be embarrassed to have my name associated with the customer experience this company is currently providing.

OrderLate. Wasn’t Great. Left Irate.

My first Marley Spoon box was a complete miss. The delivery showed up after the cutoff window — I have the timestamp to prove it — yet the company insists it was “on time” without providing any evidence of their own. The ingredients had labels, but nothing tied them to the actual recipes. No grouping, no color coding, no logical organization. Trying to cook a meal felt like a scavenger hunt with missing pieces, and the recipe cards I needed weren’t even included. I couldn’t make a single dish. Customer support responded with a sugary tone, but absolutely no substance. Every time I asked a direct question, they dodged it and repeated the same talking points. Not one of my specific concerns was addressed. I even filed a BBB complaint. The company responded twice with nearly identical copy-and-paste replies, and the case ultimately closed as unresolved due to their refusal to answer the actual issues raised. Bottom line: I paid for meals I couldn’t cook and got customer service that sidesteps real problems. There’s potential here, but the execution and accountability need serious improvement.

Repeated fulfillment failures and useless credits

I canceled Marley Spoon after weeks of delivery and fulfillment problems, including delays, missing ingredients, substitutions, incomplete meals, and painfully slow customer service. The final straw was my last box. It was supposed to contain 8 meals. Marley Spoon contacted me beforehand saying 2 meals would be unavailable and issued account credit for them, so I expected the remaining 6 meals. The box arrived with only 4. They failed to even notify me that two additional meals were missing. Even worse, their standard solution throughout all of these problems has been account credit toward future orders. My final box was actually purchased using credits I had accumulated because of problems with previous paid boxes—and even THAT box arrived substantially incomplete. Credits are not meaningful compensation when customers are repeatedly having problems with the service they are being asked to order from again. I have spent far too much time reporting issues, waiting for responses, and trying to get orders I already paid for properly fulfilled. I canceled because I completely lost confidence in Marley Spoon’s ability to reliably deliver what I ordered. At this point, I don’t want more credits. I want the money I actually paid for my previous failed orders refunded. Meal delivery is supposed to save time and make life easier. Marley Spoon accomplished the exact opposite.

Terrible customer service

I created an account to be able to see what meals they offer. After reviewing the options, it want a good fit for what I want in a meal kit delivery service. Within 5 minutes of creating the account (and adding payment information since it’s talked go be able to create an account and therefore see the meals), I cancelled. Since the account was created after the window to cancel orders (but apparently not to place them?) an order was submitted and I was charged despite no longer, and frankly not even initially, wanting the meals they had to offer. Upon reaching out to customer service to resolve this, I was told there wasn’t anything they’d do to refund or cancel the order and the charges stood. There was no options given, only references to their ordering policy; it felt like a scam to get money even if you don’t want their services. I ended up having to dispute the charge with my credit card provider instead and am still awaiting decision on that when a simple refund would’ve fixed the problem entirely. I would not recommend them.
