Improvements
gave 4 stars because it could use more features for iOS users and a better homepage. Other than that, I don’t really have a problem using my iPad as a backup for the camera. I usually teach with my iPad standing vertically, and there are also iPad stands available that make it convenient to use for teaching classes. I don't like the automated AI replies. It's better if the Palfish Admins will definitely reply real-time. We lack management support. No wonder teachers are flooding the group chat with whatever comes in their minds that should have been posted in their Moments.

We suggest salaries will be sent directly to our bank without using any third party app as the deductions were very high, its like you were absent for 5-10classes and we carefully take and attend our classes cause every penny is very important to us.Thank you

Avoid this company…RUN
I used to really like waking up at 4am to teach with PalFish. I worked with them for over three years and was a well established teacher sometimes bringing in over $3500 a month. Even before the changes in China happened things started to go downhill. Pay cuts, fines for silly things, making you watch silly videos on how to teach. Anyway in early 2021 I had to cancel 7 classes as I needed emergency surgery. I appealed with all my documentation and was told sure you will get your money back. Months passed and no money was reimbursed to me. Finally one day 12 months after my appeal I decided to ask again for the money I was owed and in return I was sacked and my account was deactivated!!! Thanks PalFish 👍👍 So if you are thinking about teaching with PalFish my advise would be….don’t RUN, RUN, RUN!!!
PalFish is great! But the App has issues since the last update.
I love working for PalFish it is an amazing platform. The staff, admin and teachers are great! The students are amazing. However since the last app update there seems to be a lot of glitching. It will say unable to connect to network often but my network is full. I even have speed tests to prove it, all other applications and even other devices are working perfectly. This leads me to believe that there is a problem with the latest app update. I am unfortunately bearing the brunt of it I even got two official warnings because of the connection issue as well as Kate for several classes, yet I am trying to enter on time. Please sort out the app, I would hate to stop working for such an amazing company and be fired because the app has an issue.
Palfish Update
I really hope Palfish can add landscape support for iPads and tablets. Many of these devices are used in landscape mode, but the app only works in portrait. It looks awkward on camera and makes it hard to look naturally at the students during class. 😅 Please consider adding this feature to make teaching more comfortable and accessible. Some features like camera effects also don’t work properly on laptops. I hope Palfish can improve the overall functionality and compatibility across all devices. It would also be great to have more camera filters and background options to make lessons more fun and engaging, especially for younger students. And please, do not just focus on the design updates of the app. Functionality is just as important. Improving these features will really help teachers have a smoother and better teaching experience. Despite those issues, Palfish is still a great platform because I can teach using my phone, tablet, iPad, or laptop. It is very convenient and flexible for teachers like me, and I am looking forward to more functional updates in the future.

Works well, great for teacher development.
Used to be my favorite company. No longer.
I taught for PalFish for 3 years. What was once a beautiful place to work for where you got paid fairly and had good relationships with teacher admins has changed completely. After the Ministry of Education in China changed their rules on foreigners teaching ESL online pay has dropped to an unlivable wage for most people. Teacher and student customer service is almost non-existent because of lack of staff. The company no longer cares about well-being of teachers and I haven’t heard of a successful appeal for real emergencies in about a year. Instead, when my home was in range of a forest fire and I was suddenly evacuated during the night I was told I should have found somewhere to teach that morning (it was impossible- im in a small town. There was nowhere to go and cell service was barely operable and main roads out of town were closed. I was never reimbursed for fines - teachers in the Philippines have been fined for cancelling while there have been serious life threatening typhoons threatening their homes and families. It’s all very sad. If they do pay enough for you to live in your country then great! But, don’t expect to be helped or feel cared about as a teacher when it comes to the company itself. If PalFish ever gets its act back together I’ll happily change this review. Until then, I feel people should be informed while considering to work for them.
Mostly great experience
Update: Palfish recently cut pay without much warning, turned off Western teachers’ ability to send messages to teachers and students for a two week maintenance that has lasted wayyy longer, messaged me that they were removing me from the kids’ course the day before class, and now, won’t respond to my inquiries for getting my pay. I thought customer service was bad before, it’s nonexistent now. Admins aren’t responding. Even when I tried to be added back to the kids course so I could at least make enough for payout—no response. I’ve taught with Palfish for just shy of 4 years. This company used to be pretty good as far as pay and the overall teaching experience (minus customer service), but over the last year and recent weeks, it has gone completely downhill. I DO NOT recommend this company. I really like being able to make a living from my living room. There are so many ways to make money with this app. I actually quit my hospital job because I make more with PalFish, working less hours per day. My issue with PalFish is the customer service: Good luck getting a response unless you bombard them with messages until someone finally decides to answer. And if you happen to get a response, be prepared to either be ignored after the initial conversation or get no real solution to your issue. ....If you can overlook the subpar customer service, you may find that the pay, freedom and great relationships with students and their parents outweighs the negatives. Overall I’m pretty satisfied with PalFish.

Camera Rotation
Hello PalFish team, I would like to suggest enabling camera rotation for iPads. While the app interface rotates when the device is turned, the camera remains fixed, which limits flexibility during classes. Allowing the camera to rotate would greatly improve the teaching experience and make lessons smoother. Thank you!

Crumbling company was once great
They paid their teachers competitive wages at one point. I was successfully teaching for more than 4 years, and had complete 5k class hours. But the dishonestly along with the pay cuts was not only a factor in my leaving, but an enormous let down that a company I once loved had become what it is now: a complete failure. They are failing their teachers for sure as they pay so little now. However, it -s much worse when you realize they are failing the students as well. Parents and teachers share screenshots of schedules, showing clearly what the teacher thinks they are opening fir availability, is wrong. Deception and bad news with e dry decision they make, concludes a zero recommendation for this company an employer as well as an edu actor.

THE WORST
Palfish has become a complete joke. I was a teacher here for two years and used to make $30/hr. I really enjoyed teaching the kids and was the #2 ranked teacher in the company in 2019. It was a great job for traveling and working remotely. Recently, I decided to start teaching with them again and unfortunately realized very quickly that the company has become a total scam. They advertise that you will make $11-$17 per hour which is a huge deduction from their previous pay rates. THEN, when you begin teaching, you actually only make $8 per hour ($4 per class). Palfish has gone from being a good, fair company to work for, to a falsely advertised scheme. Also, they are now outsourcing most of their teachers to the Philippines and literally pay them $2 per hour ($1 per class). This is a horrible and unethical company! Do not waste your time with them.
Crashing
I really enjoy teaching on Palfish and have made a really great amount of money in the past 5 months. I am however having a problem with the app crashing during class on my iPhone 11 pro. The problem is happening since updating it yesterday. I hope the Palfish tech team can identify the problem and fix it quickly.
Pretty lame
Seemed like an easy concept, I am a Native English speaker, have done lots of teaching and online teaching, plus I have the 120 hour TEFL certificate. The mock/trial class went very bad. Not enough direction given so I was told to do it again. I prepared and tried again, but still no full explanation of anything. Then I was told I was not wanted. It’s ok, not the first time I’ve been rejected, but this was just strange. The whole layout and concept didn’t make much sense, wish there was more explanations so I could do the job correctly.

The worst teaching platform
The admins don’t appreciate teachers at all. In fact they don’t even care if you succeed or not, if you’re ill one day or not. They don’t understand that without teachers, this app wouldn’t exist. They’re rude and ignore you when you have a question or need help. They can remove you from the course for no reason any time they want with no explanation. I have never been disrespected like this in my life. Stay away!! I was hired by BLINGABC and it’s been great! They even pay much more. Bye ungrateful PalFish!

I have been teaching with power face for quite some time now and I really couldn’t be happier.The extra cash has definitely been helpful and I love the job! The children that you teach are so sweet and eager to learn, for the most part. I look forward to going to work and that doesn’t happen very often for me. It’s a living if you’re desperate
I’ve taught for PF for over two years and while I’ve had some seriously positive experiences, a lot of it is hampered by cryptic, vague algorithms and the overall feeling that you’d better be available at least every couple of hours of every single day to make any real cash. Over the past two years I’ve seen the incentives get nerfed to near irrelevance and the pay rates become more and more conditional. At my peak I was making $2000 a month but then they changed the points system and my pay went way down. Basically, it’s fun if you’re desperate or travelling pre-2020 but don’t expect it to be a career and don’t expect to get any respect.

They do not care AT ALL about their teachers. They just want to make money. Unnecessary fines, ridiculous complaints and they LIE to teachers AND PARENTS. I worked her for almost two years and they cut our pay by 40% and didn’t even tell us until a week before they did it. They took away our messaging so we cannot message students at all and it’s been 2 weeks. Clearly they are trying to silence us but that will not work. We will find a way. Please do not waste time and effort for this company. They do not care about you.

I’ve been a teacher on PF for several months and have run into an access problem: I cannot log into the system. Like many PF teachers, I do not know Chinese. I have found no clear (English) instructions on how to contact support to ask questions. No link, no email nothing. Teacher support is essential to every successful school. Please let me help my students by helping me!

Confusing and does not work all the time
More confusing than working in a classroom. Using my laptop that is not an Apple it doesn’t not work properly. You need an Apple iPad or an iPhone. If you have to have a classroom setting in the background you cannot do this when traveling. Definitely not as good as in person!
Students are awesome
Have a great time being a teacher on here I myself have dyslexia and having a disability where students can except me and understand I’m not perfect but still appreciate what I’m able to offer also learning from the students that I teach they are very understanding and compromising now as far as the platform it has major glitches that can cost you I don’t do this job as a main income anymore due to these glitches that has been very disappointing to try to fix or to explain your case they do not pay you back as quick as they take your money and no matter how many screenshots you have if they feel it’s a time frame within their timeframe of their updates and them fixing their app without giving you a notice or the students a notice and you’re involved with can’t except calls can’t text can’t upload your lessons due to these issues they will not take responsibility so this job is only A good job for those who don’t take money too seriously and just want to have fun teaching and learning Chinese culture from the students this is just my perspective but I hope you have a blast and whatever choice you choose and if you have been a teacher and able to work with these glitches kudos to you and keep up the awesome work alright y’all have a good day

Difficult to navigate, hard to use, overall awful just go to Cambly or Magic Ears, it’s easier to use and less frustrating and annoying don’t waste your time or get your hopes up with this app.

Can’t creat login and no app support
Hi. I’m trying to create a login but no matter how many times I enter my phone number and it says “code sent” I do not get a code to my phone. It only states my phone number on the code sent page but not the country code so perhaps your setup for Vietnam country code isn’t sending a text there? I tried app support but it’s all in Chinese with no obvious way of changing it to English. So unfortunately I’ve had to go through this review way. Perhaps I can change my review if my problems are solved and I can completely use the app one day. Interested in teaching. Regards
