Best Bible
The Jerusalem Bible has been my favorite bible for years. That’s why I was so happy to find it on line. It speaks to me, and I feel confident using it.
There are now ads this app. Why?
Why am I seeing ads? I thought this was a free app? How do I get rid of these?
Good
The only thing that I would like to add is to put our Lords words in red. Then I would move it from “good” to excellent.
Misleading
Disappointed. This is NOT - repeat NOT - the original 1966 Jerusalem Bible. It is the 1985 NEW Jerusalem Bible, complete with gender-neutral language.
Missing Books
Neither the index nor the content appear to include Maccabees 1 and 2.
glad this exists!
lyrical! super relatable translation! like easy listening but deep and powerful.. not "bible lite" but super relatable

The Bible should be free? Why do I need to see commercial at the bottom of page? They don’t fit the … Christian narrative cheap and skinkie ?”
Nice App
Love it. Flexible on pad or phone. Audio is easy and optional, though monotone. I find it very difficult to highlight passages. (I couldn’t, though seems to be featured). All in all, as nice app.
Like the translation HATE the politics
A Bible should not be stumping for any politician. Period.
Want to like it but....
1. Can’t upgrade to get rid of ads. 2. Can’t highlight more than one verse to copy. 3. Can’t contact developer except through Facebook; I don’t use Facebook. I’d like to like this app and pay the app developer. Alas, it isn’t easy.
Wisdom
I have gained new insight into the word God of Love and Mercy. Blessed be the translators.
Not the JB, but the NJB!
This does not correspond to the 1966 version, as advertised here.
Audio
It’s a great read ,the only problem is the audio . Some of the choices are scary or just odd honestly.
1985 version NOT the original 1966
This is the New Jerusalem Bible NOT YHR ORIGINAL 1966 version. It has been neutered with PC verbiage.
Ads for a different religion
Bible seems a good version, not happy that it shows ads for spiritualist mediums wanting to tell my fortune... doesn’t really fit in with Bible study
Great translation.
Love this translation and the fact that it uses Yahweh. Easy to read.
NOT the 1966 Jerusalem Bible
Per the previews shown here, this is the 1985 NEW Jerusalem Bible, which uses restrained gender-inclusive language. What gives it away here is that it reads "a divine wind" and not "the Spirit of God" is sweeping or hovering over the waters.

Computerized Voices
Disappointing. The layout is great. The indexing is right. There’s an obvious way to present the Bible. Lots of people do this well. But what I’ve wanted is an audio version, well read and well produced. Hearing this computerized reading is soulless. Scouting and useless. Deleted the app.
Settings need improving
I like the app, impressed to find that it had audio as well. However when I went to the settings all that came up was the first part of Genesis. This needs sorting, especially as I paid for the ad-free version.
Jerusalem Bible
I absolutely love this translation of the Bible. It is my favorite. It’s a little more poetic and easier to read.
Lost in space!
It seems that the developers abandoning their work! This app becomes orphaned, can’t activate any features, especially removing ads! All comments are at least 3 years old.
Review.
Very happy with this version.
Truly GREAT APP !! EXCEPT for ‘SEARCH’ BUG , will it be fixed ?
This app with it’s easy and clean and useful and up-to-date features and visual appeal, is exceptional, truly, hands down. It’s a 5-star app except for this: One problem which is a big problem for research •I search •get my search results list •select an item from the list •read the item •go back to the list •the list is gone The app does not retain the search argument or the search results list. Multiple items cannot be chosen from it. It is necessary to start over each time, to re-enter the search argument, to select multiple items from the list. When dealing with a long search results list, this bug involves a lot of retyping, losing my place on the list, and a lot of re-scrolling to get back to where I was formerly in the list. It’s pretty daunting for research, inhibiting actually. Do you plan to fix this? Please know I will monitor your upgrades and will happily change my rating to the deserved 5 stars when/if fixed.
usefulness of JB
I’ve been using this version for over 5 yes and love the simplicity of the language. It also provides an area for notes and helps you to highlight scriptures for quick reference points.
NOT the Jerusalem Bible
Change its name to “New Jerusalem Bible”. Counter to the app description, this 1985 translation is NOT approved for Catholic worship (except with special bishops’ permission). The original 1966 Jerusalem Bible is LOTS better.
Ads free doesn’t seem to be an option
The Bible is great, but I can’t find a way to buy it ad free.
The buttons don't work.
Good translation of the Bible, I start a year the reading plan but it would not work. so I thought maybe I had to buy. Nope, basically nothing works. You can read, change font or hit a very bad Computer voice recording.
Love the font.
Easy to read and navigate with notes and more.
Truth in advertising please
Good app, but I have two gripes. (1) “No ads” should mean what it says. Why is Google putting banner ads at the bottom of every page? (2) This is the NJB, not the JB. A Bible app presenting the word of God can't begin with two misstatements of fact.
Old Testament
God’s name is primarily used in the Old Testament & frequently. The use of the Hebrew spelling, Yahweh, in an all English Bible, is ridiculous & only serves to mislead the reader. It’s been said that this is the most accurate spelling & that out of respect for the divine name, the English spelling, Jehovah, should be avoided. However, this is flawed reasoning. The purpose of having the Bible in your own language is to promote understanding. Who uses Hebrew words in their lives? No one, unless you’re Jewish! Furthermore, Yahweh cannot possibly be the correct spelling because the vowel between the two consonants, H & W, is missing. You must have the consonant letters separated by a vowel. Many people do not know that God has a personal name. Is Jehovah the absolute correct spelling & pronunciation? No one knows for sure. But, it’s considered to be a reasonable way to identify the NAME in English, the main language for the world instead of disguising it, actually obscuring it, in the Hebrew language.
Got to get
Amazing
Not Catholic
If you can’t have the whole truth then you are not the truth
Not the readings used in Mass
As others have said this is not the Jerusalem Bible (JB) but the New Jerusalem Bible (NJB). It is not used as the readings for mass as stated in the description. Great free bible, but if you want one to use in mass this is not the version for you. Also the US I believe uses the NAB in their mass readings not the JB.
The Jerusalem Bible is Unique
I was glad to seen an app that featured The Jerusalem Bible of 1966. It is a unique translation done during a unique time. It was done by Catholics during the Vatican II era, which was a very ecumenical (unity among various branches of Christian groups) time. It came with a lot of notes (not included in app) with were very helpful and are moderately conservative theologically, and therefore enjoyable to Protestants and Catholics alike. The translation is idiomatic enough to bring out the flavor of what was said, yet without straying too much from the original language. The subsequent revisions of it in 1985 (New Jerusalem Bible) and just recently (Revised New Jerusalem Bible) brought about notes that are somewhat more liberal or progressive in nature. And the translation in these revisions revert back to some terms that are somewhat obscure to many Protestants, such as “saving justice” instead of “justification” in Paul’s writings. There are a lot of different translations of the Bible available out there, and none of them are perfect. But the Jerusalem Bible (1966) is a gem, because of the clarity of the translation, and the unique ecumenical time in which it was made, as well as the mostly helpful notes that came with that edition (if you can find a hard copy that has the notes). Later editions claim the 1966 edition didn’t rely on the Hebrew and Greek as much as they should have, but that claim is overstated, and most people use more than one translation for study or devotions anyway.
Not the Jerusalem Bible!
This not the Jerusalem Bible text, it is different than the hard copy of the 1966 Jerusalem Bible that I compared it with!
Voice quality
The American voice quality is not good!!
Bible is way to read!
I like the Jerusalem bible because I like how easy it is to access individual chapters. I am studying Mark in a bible study. We have to find verses from the old & New Testament. I flip back & forth easily. The text size is good.
Jerusalem audio Bible
Do not like robot woman’s voice at all!!!
Ideal bible
I thoroughly enjoy this comprehensive and clear bible. The thing which spoils it is the ads which I can't seem to get rid of. I would willingly pay to upgrade and lose them, but when I click on 'upgrade' nothing happens! Help!
