What people like
- No monthly subscription needed, just one time fee
- Easy to jump between books and chapters
- Notes appear without blocking the main text
- Great for following along with teachers
What they complain about
- You must pay extra for study notes
- Clicking every verse for notes is slow
- Recent updates broke access to paid content
- Audio takes over your Bluetooth unexpectedly
Amazing text
App is functional. Content is amazing.
Notes don’t work
I paid for the notes but don’t have access to them and the only support is an automated message that says they’ll get back to you, but they don’t.
Great App
It would be better if we capitalize letter H from “He” and “Him” when describing God or Jesus. It’s easier to identify who was being described.
Protestant?
In the Bible reading plans they have a 10 chapter a day plan. This exactly follow Protestant dispensationalist Grant Horner’s plan even skipping all the books they call apochrypha.
Okay
My biggest complaint really is that I am not seeing an option to just simply scroll and the study notes just following the scrolling being done, instead I have to click every verse to get the commentary, that really is just not optimal.
Great study Bible
I’m glad it’s a one time purchase and not a subscription. Better for the community👍
Purchased this App 10 years ago
This app has gone through 4 different owners each charging for something different. When I first purchased it I had the study material available but now lost access yet again when ownership changed.
Great Bible!
Love it, it really helps with my understanding of the faith.I just wish the notes came with it but it is a lovely bible and I’ll get around to purchasing the notes and commentaries at some point. I have the paperback version but this is way more convenient to carry around. I’ll be glad to have Scott Hahn’s biblical commentaries at my finger tips.
Good content, poor app
I love everything about the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible except for its size—it’s huge. I’ve wanted a good electronic version, but this isn’t it. To see notes, you must click on each individual verse number, which makes Bible study SO inefficient. Many good Bible study apps work much more smoothly than this one. I’m very disappointed to see such a great resource being hindered by poor app design. Needless to say, I regret my purchase. Hopefully an app redesign will one day change my mind, because it does not seem like the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible will be available in more competent apps in the near future.
Better before
While it’s nice to now have audio for the OT, I wish the audio for the NT hadn’t changed. I loved the “audio drama” style. It helped keep my attention. Also, currently, the reading goes straight from one book of the Bible to the next without a pause or even the announcement of the name of the next book.
Family Blessings and Devotion
This app is a true blessing for our family, resurrection, and protection against the legions of Satan.
Study Material Not Free
Was excited to find this but then disappointed to find that study material required a purchase.
Great to use with “The Bible in a Year” podcast
I’ve been using this with “Th Bible in a Year” since it’s the same version. The underlined notes are really helpful.
New Table of Contents format is poor
The new TOC is challenging to use in a Bible study. Is does not remember where you are. When going from book to book, you need to begin at the beginning of a long list and scroll. Very frustrating Going to find another app.
Assessment
Just got started
Recommended
This will keep you grounded. Many display styles, and if purchased you have the option to choose between dramatized/read text aloud. You can use bookmarks and notes and sync these across multiple devices. The footnotes, links and commentary are pulled up on an embedded window that does not block view of the text. Enjoy!
Dramatized New Testament kidnapped and no ransom $
2 days ago everything was fine, but today instead of hearing the dramatized version, I heard an AI version…ab absolutely horrible. How could you ruin the Bible? Please tell me how I can get my version back. Very upset daily Bible reader
A bit RC pious but good medicine
OK, so I'm a Quaker, not a Catholic evangelical, and the optional peripherals to this app, pushing a line, are not mine. That said, I really appreciate this New Revised Version that borrows quite a bit of the King James poetry, and the daily readings are great, same as Protestant churches but sometimes with ever-so-interesting stuff from what we (so rudely) call "the apocrypha". I do find some aspects of the app, like marking a passage and having to confirm your intention, to be clunky. I upgraded to the full version. Is that worth it? For me, yes, adds to my reflection, tho not detailed commentaries. Overall, I much appreciate the work that's gone into this and have not found another bible with lectionary that better serves my needs. It may be RC, but I will be recommending it to my Quaker friends, and even, where I so dare, to my Presbyterian friends back home on the Isle of Lewis.
Failure to download
I recently bought the audio version of the New Testament but i cannot download some of the audio due to server error. I hope it can be addressed immediately.
Great but very slow to download
Very slow download then stops downloading in the middle of it. I have to keep restarting! I only listened to 3 out of 38 since these are the only ones I can download. We have a fast Internet connection, so I not sure where the problem is.
Amazing Study Material
Just wanted to give a 5 star since I have owned the physical copy since it first released and have since read it cover-to-cover and regularly use it. This study Bible is THE best resource for understanding the whole story of scripture for laypeople, bar none. I recommend downloading this to support the amazing scholars who made this study Bible possible. I am so thankful for this resource! God bless all involved in the project!
They cancelled the old version of the app truth and life
I paid for the old content in the truth and life app which is now no longer supported. They push you to use this app. I should be credited the $ I spent on the old app to use in this one. Scummy practice. Not very Christian.
We love this App
Only thing it is missing is the Old Testament Audio! 5 stars otherwise. Hopefully enough users will bring it up and someone at Lighthouse will make it happen soon.
A few personal issues
I use the app in the car with iPhone. The app will come on and the audio reading wiIl start as soon as I start my audio system in my vehicle, even when I didn’t select it to play. The program takes over the audio Bluetooth connection and I am not sure how to control it, so I deleted the app. I also don’t like the dramatization of the audio reading. I rather have objective thoughts than emotional directed feelings because of the dramatization.
Catholic Study Awesomeness
This app works extremely well for Mac and will guarantee you the best quality catholic study app possible. So yeah.
Frustrated
This Bible is fantastic, particularly all the study material. However, since the most recent update, I can no longer access any of it, despite clicking “Restore Purchases” and following what it says to do in the help section. It says I need to purchase it, even though I already have. I am super frustrated because I cannot find anywhere but here to comment on this issue. As far as I can tell, the update that was supposed to make things better has only blocked me from utilizing what I had previously paid for.
Needlessly complex
As a Catholic, I tried your app, but tapping the Bible icon takes me to the daily readings and not the whole Bible. While I appreciate having the daily readings close to hand, I am also reading through the Bible. As your app does not seem to allow this despite appearances I have deleted it and used another. You need to supply some short guide to the various icons.
KEEP IT UP
Go grateful for excellent Catholic tools for Scripture. Keep it up!
Not a clear enough description… in my opinion
I got this app because of its many features which are by reputable people. Unfortunately I discovered that many of these amazing features you have to pay for. I found after reading the description carefully a second time after I had downloaded and deleted the app I could understand how it was slightly my fault but clearer details of paid for versus free content would have been helpful.
1 Corinthians 6: 9
Amazing app ! BUT not sure why but in 1 Corinthians 6: 9 there is a purple SS in this verse and when I click it, the bottom panel opens titled “the tree” wish a loooooong list of things that does not pertain to the verse… someone please help. Not sure if this is a bug or something… Other than that, Great work guys !!
The best navigation
It’s so easy to move around the bible in this app.
Liking the app.
I like the way I can tap on the book and chapter instead of typing . I can follow along with the teacher and quickly find the passage he is looking up without thumbing through to find it . Some books are small and hard to find when flipping .
