What people like
- Deep emotional story that stays with you.
- Beautiful writing makes characters feel real.
- Great for replaying to see different paths.
What they complain about
- Choices feel like they don't matter.
- Ads interrupt you constantly.
- Story feels too short and abrupt.
I really enjoyed this!!!
I really loved how deep and emotional this story was. I’ve played this game multiple times and I’ve enjoyed each time. I really wish there was more to the story, but that’s my only issue!
Banner ads right on page
What is up with the horrible banner ads at the bottom of every page? I watched an ad as they requested and they're still there. Do you want me to try this book or not?
beautifully written and super deep
I totally loved this game! I got it the other day and just finished one run through, im going to try getting to know the other characters, but I really like grant. the stories really interesting and I love that their in space. the fact that they go into detail about important feelings like death and sadness really resonate with me. although I wish the story had more detail and length, the answer choices also werent my favorite, my choices were ignored by most characters in the book and even though I havent tried other options I feel they would have the same affect. also, the part where my character would play a video game seemed a bit pointless, I get it tied them too the guests arriving on the ship but I wish it focused more on the actual character not a game inside the story. All in all I really loved this totally recommended for the day dreamers and romantics like myself :-) (p.s. i changed the space backround to my wallpaper credits to the amazing artist 😍)
Obnoxious new adverts
A philosophical romance that pushes flashing trash adverts at you. No thanks. It’s a shame because I suspect there is great story in their somewhere that I’d probably pay for if I played a chapter or two and got hooked.
Great Premise, Little Character or World building
I was so interested in the story the authors were setting up, the world seems interesting, the characters are good, it felt like I wouldn't know what was going to happen next. But I it ended so abruptly. I thought there would be more. I know I'm kinda being a snob for demanding premium content for free but I was expecting more of a book than a story. Did I have to pay the 5 dollars to get more content? I would if you'd disclosed that in the beginning. Or did I get it all wrong? I didn't get to connect with any of the characters or even the character I was playing. I feel like a lot more could've been accomplished here. :^)
Tears
Absolutely loved it I cannot type any words to say how much i loved this Just literal tears as the game finished Wow When a game is good It makes me emotional And for a game to make me emotional Considering i have strict ratings for games ( on my own level ) Its over the top great I swear This game is going to keep me thinking for ages Update 2024 As embarrassing as that rating is from high school me, for some reason this game/story still holds a place in my phone/ipad. Not sure why I connect to it so much. I don’t like reading as much now that I’ve grown but this games one of the few thing I can do a whole sithrough for. Thanks for the memories devs!
Disappointed
Between the Choose your own adventure series and the Infocom games,I've played a lot of interactive fiction. Within about 3 pages and not even knowing any characters names I found myself playing a video game on the moon base and I was terribly bored. No thanks.
Decent
I was not as interested in the video game aspect with the Elgerly stuff, but did enjoy making choices and creating relationships with characters. The story is sadly very shortly though.
Ehh
The philosophical aspect is fun, but the game really pushes an agenda.
Beautiful game yet one sided mindset point of view.
The game was really beautiful and well done. I enjoyed the style and the premise. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is that the character within the game isn’t really able to be realistically lived through. For example the character you play as only focuses on the negatives of their life, and refuses to accept the lack of control in life. It pushes a sense that everything is always your fault even when something is out of your control. Which is a very unrealistic and harmful way of thinking. For this reason it I could not fully support the game. However, I do appreciate the art of it as well as the general themes throughout it.
AMAZING
Loved it
If you suffer from emetophobia do not play this game
If you’re a fan of well-written, well-crafted stories then this is not the game for you. I wanted to like this; I really did. I even paid for the ad-free version. Perhaps I somehow got a different version of the game than the other reviewers: an early draft, maybe. In any case, I’m not sure I’ve ever been so bored and yet so frustrated simultaneously as I was playing this. The writing is poor in terms of style and grammar, as well as tedious. The individual characters have no personalities, apart from “you,” whose sole character traits seem to be a serious lack of self esteem and the ability to take every event personally and complain about it. A lot. The first tenet of good writing is “show; don’t tell.” Unfortunately, that’s something at which this game singularly fails. The plot, such as it is, makes very little sense. There are no explanations for any of the underlying tensions or motivations, and no reason to care about anything that happens. It’s not even clear why “you” is working at this job they obviously hate and at which they are woefully incompetent. Also, I’m appalled that there’s no warning at all about the repeted mentions of vomit and vomiting. This game would be extremely triggering for people who suffer from emetophobia.
Great game but
I have only just started playing this game but have one complaint: there is no option for South Asian, only East and West Asian
Great potential, bad execution
The game itself plays well, nothing special to add to the mechanics. The idea behind the story is good, but it get’s lost in the bad writing, rushed development and unnecessary plot-twists.
Just a few things
The story was really good but the decisions you make have no influence on the ending whatsoever. I should know, I replayed it like 20 times without result.
I like it a lot
I played once and now imma go back for more and see all the different things I can do
Does it get better?
I read until the third waiting period- I’m not actively trying to come at this in a negative way but, I found this story annoying. And this is just preference I suppose but there was a lack of description and detail, lack of connection to the tourists. Although perhaps that’s exactly how it was intended. I do not understand the hype
Pretty good so far
Haven't finished but so far it's enjoyable. One problem though. There's a moment (spoilers) when I (main character) gets into an awkward situation with James were it forces responses that admit I'm in love with him. No friend option. Also I've been a male this whole time (I'm not homophobic but the game should cater to all players).
It feels like nothing really happens
It is well written but the story is not exciting or entertaining, it's way too descriptive for what it is and the choices you make don't seem to make that much difference.
Ok
Didn't really feel like my choices had an impact, thought the game was just ok.
Best Game ever.
I downloaded this app years ago. I loved it! I since then have read so many more stories from this developer! None of them a disappointment, but this one is by far my favorite. I’ve read it several times. Each time I write down how it ended and compare to previous times. You will not find a better story or app on this App Store. 10/10
Free version does nothing
Why is this a free app? If you open it all you get is an ad for the paid version, plus another ad. If the developer is willing to mislead like this, paying for the full version can't really be trusted.
Unexpected gem
Beautiful, thought provoking look into game creation.
Years later, I’m back
I remember playing this game as a teenager and loving it. I played the James route. It had a great impact on how I thought about games and storytelling. Now, many years later, I’m a software developer who has built my own video games — nothing very impressive yet but I’m getting there. I decided to revisit this game, and chose Grant this time. Just as satisfying as the first time, and just what I needed to hear as I worked towards creating compelling narratives in my own games. So, yes, literally a life-changing game. Beware to any young players. You might end up like me, getting so involved in the philosophy that you become a game developer yourself.
Poor
Absolutely hate the writing style. Adverbs everywhere, 2nd person narrative not executed well and feels aimed at a reading age of about 12. Premise fails to grip your attention. Bad overall
Sequel!!!
I loved the game , it's def worth reading ATLEAST once and I love how you legit get to choose what happens for you in the end!
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH
At first I could never make any real progress but once I got to all the characters I was in love. My brain has the liberty to give real life to the beautiful writing. Amazing definitely gonna replay and see if the beautiful author has any other games <3 I LOVE GRANT
Really?
Sorry........I just don't get it. Glad I didn't pay for it.
Creative; played more than once
This is a very unique, creative game. I’ve already played this game through twice and might even end up playing it again. For anyone looking for diverse character design, this game is the best I’ve seen (age, gender, ethnicity, +). It is a very meta storyline where the player plays a game within a game and has philosophical discussions about game design with fictional game creators (I swear I made that sound way more boring than it actually is!). The philosophical discussions are the best part in my opinion. The only thing I disliked was toward the end there is one choice that asks the player to put in any adjective. I had such a hard time finding adjectives that worked! It would instead say it didn’t know that adjective yet. I tried about two dozen adjectives before I got one to work, which was very frustrating. Then, I decided to see how many I could get to work at all. I only found 4 words that worked, though I’d guess there are a few more. Maybe a multiple choice would work better here? Hack for anyone who is stuck, all of these words can work, but get different results: Honest, Profound, Satisfying, Perfect.
Beautiful
Beautiful slow burn love story that is in fact a love story between game creators and those who love and play them
Exactly what I was looking for!!!
I love this game. I’ve been looking for a good story game where your choices really matter and is long enough to actually enjoy. Ive tried out and deleted multiple games that just didn’t scratch my brain the way this game does! I love all the characters, and the detail their different personalities makes it feel like you’re bonding with actual people. Definitely recommending this to my friends :)
