Terrible
App is an absolute train wreck of locked premium features gated behind an insulting 1-week trial to accompany a $500 headband. Easiest return of the year. What a waste.
MEDITATIONS AND BRAIN WAVES
I had expected the volume of the meditation to reflect the level,of calmness. It seems to be based on a curve. The better I get the higher the volume at that level. The result is that once you are down to your level the volume no longer changes based on brain activity. I suspect that some frequency of brain wave is better the higher the level and some are better if it is lower in power. Better clarification on the chart would be helpful.
Fragile, junk hardware
bloated and gamified software. edit: i didn't say it felt fragile, IT IS fragile. i threw it away like the garbage that it is.
Unable to update firmware
I am used too, and I haven’t used it in a while, but I tried downloading the Muse app and it doesn’t work. I can’t update the firmware. Nothing in the office is functional except connecting it with my muse. And Muse doesn’t even have a phone number or a chat bubble. You have to email them and they say that they can take a long time to get back to you.

The hardware quality is great and the software updates quickly, but the software is slow to respond
Really Disappointing
Absolutely no customer service! First I was unable to activate my account and the app isn’t recognizing that I have a paid subscription. There’s absolutely no customer support at all except a bot and a form to fill out. Also unable to pair device. Unfortunately I have not been able to use it but not a great start!
Love it, but software needs updating
I have used 3 different models of the muse for 15 yrs now. I love it, but after all this time I'm annoyed they don't have any settings to silence the chime at the end of a session. So when using the device for sleep, I get to sleep then the chime wakes me back up. Removing the sound really should have been a part of the UI long ago.
Good app when it works
The app and experience are good when it works but it is buggy and the support seems limited. Muse recently put out a firmware update that is required in order to use the device. However the app won’t download the firmware update and just provides an ambiguous error. There is no FAQ nor a response to a support request so it has effectively been useless for the last two weeks. Future firmware updates shouldn’t be required to use the device. If they are required for some reason then it would be great to have an announcement and support so that people can resolve issues.
Can’t find a way to track sleep
I was looking through the whole app to try to find a way for it to track my sleep throughout the whole night but all I found was meditation practises. Please make the sleep tracking part more integral to the app.
Life changing.
I have been using a MUSE 2 headband for doing meditations since April 2021. I find it to be a very helpful tool. I have better focus and my Family and Friends find me to be more calm and relaxed. I recently went through a very traumatic event. I had a man trying to commit suicide jump in front of my pickup at highway speed. He somehow survived with just his left leg being severely broken/mangled. Needless to say this messed me up Psychologically. I am still in treatment with a Psychologist. Between that treatment and using my MUSE2 headband daily I have come a long way in a short time. I have become so intent on doing my meditation daily that with the meditation I literally just did my current streak is 390 days. I would very highly recommend MUSE to anyone and everyone. Doesn’t connect via Bluetooth. Don’t waste your time or money!
Useful
While using, feedback is auditory. It would be really beneficial to be able to see a graph of the four brain waves in real time, but to my knowledge, there is no way to do this with the app.
Still intermittent sensor display
Version 50.2 is an improvement but heart rate and oxygenation displays are flat lines half of my sessions. All pads light up correctly. I use both the muse 2 and Athena and the heart rate function is the same with both. So I doubt it’s the sensors fault. But this renders the “Heart” and “Strength Training” functions useless. I gave up trying to get an answer from customer service.
Muse App seems to be broken with iPad 11th gen Bluetooth
Works fine on a 9th gen iPad and iPhone 14 (all running the latest Muse app and iOS 18.6. However on the iPad 11th Gen running the same iOS and app version the Muse headband is detected by fails to finish connecting. So it seems that the Bluetooth code in the app needs updating to support the latest Bluetooth as used in an iPad 11th Gen… Tried removing the app (fully and all the permissions are correct, multiple times, as they are on the other iOS devices I have, the other iOS devices I have work fine with the same Muse headband)! Please fix this…

I have had the Muse Headband go several years, and when I came back to it, suddenly it requires a subscription to even use. Thanks for making my device truly trash.
Nearly transformational
I have a love/ hate relationship with this app and the muse device. I have so much to say, that I’ll keep it brief. I love that the previous version of the app gives (apparently real time) feedback via wonderfully resonant sound and visuals of my heartbeat and presence. It is helping me listen to my heart and strengthen my presence. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. It would also be helpful to have; deeper understanding what the sounds mean, to be able to keep the visuals from sleeping, to set the breath pacer to my preferred pace or for it give real time metrics showing what my breathing rate is. I hate that the update has lost these features entirely, but will keep the old version on my iPad as long as possible. I have other feedback, but the main thing is that the s sensor can’t read my temple data because.. I have hair there! I have to fiddle around with wetting the sensors and frankly, I give up. Luckily, the old version of the app is only using the forehead sensor. This technology is nearly transformational.
Muse Brainwaves 🧠 — Why Pay Again to Access What I Already Own?
I started using my Muse again after a couple years and was shocked to see nearly the entire app now locked behind a subscription 💸. It feels like a squeeze — paying once for the hardware should be enough to access its core functions. The growing chokehold of endless subscriptions is exhausting, especially when they block features tied to devices we already own. 😤 It turns what could be a mindful experience into a stressful one. 🧘🏽♂️
Landscape Ratio Please
I love the app and would like to use it off my ipad, but the forced portrait ratio makes the experience suboptimal, especially on larger ipads.

I’ve been using muse since 2019 daily, love it. It helps keep me centred and focused. Don know what I’d do without it.
Got too fancy
Old customer of the v1 and tried the Athena. Lasted about 15 minutes and threw it in the trash. Glitchy, couldn’t hold a bluetooth signal for more than 30 seconds. Measuring brain waves and trying to do a million things. Shame. A much simpler approach and device/app that actually works would have been appreciated. Really wanted to love it.
Please bring back the chirping birds
I’ve used this for years and it has been amazing. I updated the app and was a little lost for a couple of days. It was kind of confusing but I eventually figured it out and am happily meditating again. Maybe the developer could simplify. Simple is better for us non tech people.

I just received this today I’m able to understand my weak points and strong points easy peasey which is what I was hoping for very comfortable more than a hat even I know this is a great investment in me I highly recommend this I’m adhd it’s helping already Tytyty Kat
I can’t believe I’ve wasted my money on this
I stopped using this thing so long ago, and now that I try to use it again the app doesn’t even work. I paid for a premium membership, and I’ve never noticed anything different. In fact, it still tries to get me to buy a premium all the time. Complete waste of $500.
Muse update is improvement mainly
Many thanks for taking the time to respond to my feedback. I’ve had a bit of time to get used to the update now and do like a lot of the new features, e.g. good to see all result charts on mind, heartbeat etc no matter what type of meditation chosen. It would still be handy to see when I get birds on the mind chart rather than just the total though. Also in the biofeedback section where you can play your own content it would be good to still be able to set the timer for the length of session wanted rather than it being locked in at 30 minutes.
Athena registration issues
I struggle to get the new headband to register the back to sensors. I have tried everything besides cutting my long hair…it drops in the middle of the session or struggles to even get a signal at the start of the session. This doesn’t lead to what its product intends: health.
Downgraded to 3 stars
So I have been really liking the app. However, I recently came back to using my muse 2 headband and with the new app it won’t tell you right away which headband it will work with. So you have to pick a meditation, download it and start it and THEN you get a message saying that your headband will not work with that meditation. Could you please either identify which meditations will work with my headband, or even better, allow me to filter the options so it only shows the ones I can use with the Muse 2? Otherwise it feels like an upsell. Thank you!
Worth it!
After using the amuse S headband for a few days, I already have gained insights into my mind-body connection. I am learning to watch my mind as it sets my heart off racing, or my breath as it helps to slow my heart down. I have also been able to measure the quality of my sleep which has been very helpful.
Not Great for Non-Subscribers
Review: 03/2026: I caved and got a subscription. It’s been very frustrating. The AI is very generic and constantly misunderstands what I’m asking for or forgets instructions. It’s as smart as SIRI and not worth the extra cost. As for peak Alpha, I fail to see how it’s helpful and hasn’t impacted my mediation practice. Review 07/2025: Been using muse since 2015. Have recently gotten frustrated with the amount of content being locked behind a paywall. I understand and respect companies want folks to sign up for paid services, but it shouldn’t be at the expense of non paying member who’ve already spent $300+ on hardware. The app itself used to be simple and intuitive. And now, I can’t find unguided, set-your-own-time meditations that I can do without my headband. The free features should be easier to find than they currently are.
Muse S
Apart from some hiccups getting started with fitting the pod to the band correctly so the sensors all work- customer service were very helpful- it's great I find it calming just to put it on, and then to tap and go straight into a meditation. After few times I found myself looking forward to it and excited about my progress. I recommend it.
Disappointed
I’m disappointed for several reasons: 1. It was very difficult to get the headset to work. The sensors behind my ears run along my hairline and hair seems to block them. It took me an hour to get it to work, it was super frustrating 2. I already have a Fitbit and the sleep data from this is not much different and the Fitbit is really easy to put on. I was hoping for some data on my brain waves while sleeping but no. 3. The premium content on the app was blocked because I was not comfortable giving up my credit card so I could be billed next year (I’ve already paid for this year but am not able to access the premium content) 4. The app is super slow because everything has to be downloaded before viewing. Unfortunate as I had really been looking forward to getting this.
Decent but critical bugs
Lots of great things going on in this app. But I notice stillness scores just don’t work. 0 when not moving at all! Something is amiss. Also flakey Bluetooth connectivity. I often have to quit the app and remove the headset and hold it beside my iPhone 15 to get a connection.
Great For Meditation
I admit I had a few issues when I first started in March of 2021. But now it is very easy to use. I have a two Muse S', a Gen 1 and a Gen 2. I just like having one dedicated to sleep. Five years ago I tried to meditate with an Emotiv Epoch. That was a complete failure. Whereas, the Muse S goes in easy and is ready to go. I find that with the Muse S, I am able to detect very quickly when I am losing my focus. So I know my meditations much better with Muse. There is a slight learning curve as there is with all software apps.
App is glitchy and clunky
The app is glitchy and never tracks it’s a waste of money right now. It used to work fine but now the app is a failure.
Please update app more frequently
I find the sleep meditations are limited and would like more sleep stories included.
Recent update made this product useles
I would have given this item 5 stars before their recent update. With the last update they tuned down the feedback variation on the soundscapes, taking the "feedback" out of "biofeedback". There is no clear way to change this in the app settings or to revert to a previous version. This makes their product great if you want to listen to soundscapes, but near useless if you want to have biofeedback guided meditation. I would urge people to invest in a different product if they are looking for a biofeedback tool.
Would be better if…
This is great when I can find a meditation session that actually works with the model headband I have (MJ02). I spend 5-10 minutes looking though the sessions, find one, download, select the time, press start AND THEN I’m told mine doesn’t work with the session. This is both frustrating AND stressful (I’m sure the opposite of what you want). It would be great if I could either search for sessions based on my device, or filter sessions that work with my device.

Worst app and device scam
This is worst device an app is extremely disappointing. When device is working it just doesn’t recognize. I tested it on android. It just works fine whereas my iphone is brand new and there it just doesn’t work so frustrating and it’s results are also not reliable when my mind is not calm and energy showing it is 80% above 80% calm and when my mind is really calm and it does show my brain activities is super calm. I really do not trust the results and I do not recommend this device.
Love it!
I just started using Muse this week and really like it. It gives me a sense of calmness and feels good knowing that I’m trying to teach myself how to meditate. I love being able to look at the stats after a session. Had some difficulty connecting with Bluetooth at first but after reaching out to customer service , it was fixed and I was Musing within no time at all. So far I’m loving it!!

I’m fairly annoyed that a meditation app connected to a not cheap piece of hardware would have “referral bonus” pop ups right after my meditation session. Just, do the thing I pay up to do and support me in meditation and leave the capitalist agenda for the rest of the day. In this modern day war for attention, I strongly desire not to be taken advantage of while I must look at the screen to complete my meditation session in the app. Please change this.

Do not buy the pricey headband product because the ear contacts degrade in a year. Customer support by phone, chat or web form to purchase a replacement is non-existent. But they will keep sending you marketing emails.

Session volume controls are gone now
For years there was an icon to the left of the pause play during sessions which allowed the volume of the birds, background, end chime, narrator, etc. to be modified. Now there is no way to customize the volume during unguided biofeedback.

Love it but…..
Have been using Muse diligently and love the feedback loop. I am however a little frustrated with the app as it has deleted/lost some of my activity. It showed me on a 30 day streak and then suddenly I lost data from the middle pf that streak and it has pushed me back to a 17 day streak.
