Not advertised as paid subscription
I saw this app advertised on Instagram so I went through the whole startup process after downloading just to be hit with a subscription signup page, no option for free version. It should be advertised on the app description that this is a subscription-based model instead of having people go through the startup and make an account and then try to bank on a 3-day free trial.
First impressions feel off
Tapping “learned” will sometimes skip the next card. Definition of 为 in the lock screen seems to reference the traditional character even though the app is set on simplified. All this small paper cuts don’t motivate me to pay for the yearly subscription. There are free apps that are less buggy that help with spaced repetition.
So effective
I am excited to try it out
Can’t use without paying $30/yr
It’s B.S.
Widget.
Impossible to add widget to the lock screen. You still have to unlock the phone to access it.
Keeps on showing words already marked as “learned”, wasting time
See title
Unreasonable price
Something this simple should not be $5 a month. Cool concept, but not worth it unless you’re incapable of making yourself study. At least add a free tier with a limited # of words/汉子 per day.

Great app
I've tried pretty much every app for Chinese learning and this is my favorite. It allows me to learn HSK with full control over whether I want to learn Pinyin or Hanzi. My only complaint about the app is that some of the flashcards don't really make sense on their own, and the review functionality seems to be broken, so you have to manually check how the words can be used and you have to go back and review them yourself. If they fix this it will be my favorite app.
No SRS flashcard system in place
I really like the widget and the app has a elegant design and given first of its kind, would really like the developers to expand upon its functionality as it seems theres no review system in place besides marking the words as “learning”, “almost” and “learned”. I have marked nearly 100 words as “learning” and it doesnt even show up under review tab? Im just building a large backlog of words basically, the SRS flashcard system doesnt work. If they can fix this, then will update the rating but the emails it seems they dont reply to emails either. For the £30 price, would expect this to be a given as you are learning vocabulary. Also would like to see more sentence examples besides the two and more complex examples with clauses/phrases then simple sentences, especially for advanced users selecting hsk6 native level and maybe the functionality to being able to save sentences would be a game changer. But atm, this app is very basic and only paying for the passive widget itself. Also sometimes the deep linking doesnt work when authenticating with face ID and it directs you to incorrect word. Also when you ate exploring other tabs besides “for you”.

Makes you rate just to suprise you with a fee
Hope to upgrade to 5 star
I am looking forward to using the app but I can’t open it without registering and I can’t register without rating it… which is a bit weird because I don’t know what it’s like. I hope to upgrade to 5 star later.
They are so good
I am in love with a Chinese guy and this is really helping me to master my rizz
Baited into downloading
I’ve been looking for ways to practice Mandarin after finishing school years ago. They had a pretty enticing ad pop up on social media and I thought hey it couldn’t hurt. They then take you through this really nice UI flow of choosing your learning level, plan, and everything. The problem is that before you even practice/learn your first word, you hit a paywall… and NOWHERE in the advertisement is that disclosed. Sure it’s disclosed per App Store policies, but most people would assume it’s for premium/supplementary features, not basic, bare minimum usability. TLDR: got my immediate download, then immediate deletion
Good app, payment model is steep
This is a great supplemental tool for spaced repetition learning of characters. The widget emphasis is pretty cool too and will keep me on track. I’m not a fan of the subscription model, I would rather just buy the tool flat out like Pleco offers. $5/month is simply too high of an asking price for a supplemental flashcard tool
Good concept bad execution
How come I pay for the app but have no main function which is the widget? Can’t add neither to a lock screen or a main screen. I can understand when smt like this happening on freemium model but it’s fully paid one …
Hidden price
It’s a good app but I wish they were more transparent about pricing
Best Chinese learning app
The lock screen feature is really helpful and I feel like the database of words used is good, I like how you can tailor the topics shown
Predatory technique to make you pay
You made go through all the flow then at the very end tell me that payment is mandatory. By that point you already harvested my email and device details… If i knew I had to pay a subscription I would’ve never downloaded it
No free trial
Why don’t you guy make a trial option and lock the advance options? Instead of making us do 7 days trial and automatically pay for the parkage
BUG!!!!!
I can’t find widget to add to lockscreen and home screen. Even though I signed up for a 3-day trial, I also signed up for monthly and yearly plans, but I still couldn't find the widgets to add. Is this app scamming me?
Genuinely seeing results with my Chinese
If you want to speak Chinese conversationally in modern world 2026 and be able to travel around China recognizing everyday words, Daily Hanzi is the app to learn Chinese. I have tried other apps like Duolingo and Busuu but felt extremely discouraged with my progress. Keep up the good work, and thank you for making an effective Chinese language learning app!!!
To expensive
Make it free
Not actually free
When you download and launch this app for the first time, it will spend 5min asking you a bunch questions to customize your experience, etc. It waits all the way until the end to tell you you only get a 3 day free trial (seriously, 3 days?) , then it costs something like 39.99 a month or something wild like that. Immediately deleted. I just wanted the lock screen feature, that’s it.
Traditional characters
Please add Taiwanese or Traditional characters to the app, this would be a big improvement
Looking forward to it!
Great idea and looks like a great app! Looking forward to daily Hanzi reminders. Ganxie Nimen
Zero Value for your money
They bait you to sign up, leave a review, curate your plan, and all without revealing until the end it costs $30/year. On top of the fact there's no free version. Might as well have made this a paid app but this just seems like another ai vibe-coded side hustle app trying to generate subscription revenue.
Ask for rating before use
And not free
sad
i was quite eager to learn but it turns out theres a payment/subscription for you to use the app, i mean it looks high quality but its just too expensive for me, but i really liked the idea, just not worth it for me so 3 stars
Already more immersive
I am enjoying the app so far! It is a great reminder to actually take time, even a minute or two, to review or learn a new word. I would really like it if you could add the voice dictation for the sentences so it reads aloud the example sentences provided. I would also enjoy if you could add the ability to select words in the example sentences to define and delve further. I can’t wait to see how this app grows. I would love to see further reading and learning features for everyday conversations and signs that you would normally see and hear in China. Keep up the amazing work on this app!
costs money
ridiculous there should be a free version
Too expensive
This app needs to be paid for. I understand the developer needs to make a living, but £30 a year for such a basic app is taking liberties.
on subscription
I avail a week of trial. The app is very useful.. however, i really can't find any clue on how to unsubscribe with the app.
Very helpful and convenient
I found this app through Instagram and thought the lock screen widget feature was really cool. I usually forget to study Chinese and having it directly on my lockscreen makes it really easy to remember to study! I also like how it gives me new words that I find useful and caters to my reading level. The pronounciation is also a huge plus. Loving it so far!
misleading ads
make the app free, you cowards
Warning: it costs money
I love the idea of the app and how it gives you a way to learn hanzi daily however for people who don’t know the app is not free and there is a 26 I think dollar fee monthly or smthg
Looks great - Small bugs are annoying
First off, i like the concept of app and it does get me to review vocab more frequently. but there is this small annoying interaction where i tap the home screen widget and the app doesn't open to the same word. Often times I can't even see the word in today's list. Also, I find it confusing that I set a daily goal of words and once I've reviewed that many words, the list doesnt restart and let me retest the forgotten ones. instead it keeps presenting me additional words for the day. This makes it hard to capture benefits of SRS and also it makes the review and for you categories a little confusing to understand.
