Genuinely such a good app. Simple and easy to navigate UI, great workout recommendations, and best of all easy workout swaps for when a machine is taken. Easy 10/10
Great nutrition app, unacceptable workout app support
Ive used MacroFactor for years, and the nutrition app is excellent. That’s the only reason I’m still a customer. The workout side has been a completely different experience. For more than a month, core functionality was broken for me. I couldn’t reliably save changes, save warm-up routines, or create a new program. I sent screen recordings, reinstalled the app, confirmed the issue persisted, followed up repeatedly, and even asked whether there was anything else I could provide to help them reproduce it. The response was essentially the same every time: the ticket is with the developers and there is no update. No workaround. No meaningful status update. No timeline. No proactive communication. No request for additional logs or information. No attempt to set expectations beyond saying bugs can take weeks or months. What bothered me most was the support experience. I was eventually told that continuing to ask for updates would not speed up the developers or otherwise help my desired resolution. That completely misses the point of customer support. I was not asking support to write the code. I was asking for some level of ownership, communication, and help while a paid product was nearly unusable. If a company knows a serious issue may take weeks or months to resolve, I would expect some proactive effort to retain and satisfy the affected customer. Instead, compensation or extended access was only mentioned after I became increasingly frustrated and raised the issue myself. I ultimately gave up, cancelled the workout portion, and moved my training to another app. The nutrition app is still good enough that I continue to use it, which says a lot about how strong that product is. But the workout app and the way this issue was handled have seriously damaged my confidence in MacroFactor as a whole. If you are considering the workout app specifically, understand that if you hit a serious bug, you may be waiting a very long time with little more than “the developers have your ticket.”

They could make this better if they wanted
This app is tremendously frustrating to use and to review. While it has a vast set of capabilities that would place it firmly at the top of anyone’ top list of workout planners and loggers but with almost every key feature comes a MASSIVE what were/are they thinking? From offering flexibility to import custom programs and adding custom exercises to progressive smart analysis, the app could be great. They then take each of these and make them frustratingly useless by either creating absurd guardrails to program import formats, making on-the-fly exercise additions something that takes longer than an entire workout to set up! If they wanted to make their app 1000x more friendly overnight they would give users a CSV template for program building and a live list of every current exercise available in the app. A junior coder could implement this feature in 10 minutes giving users so much more control over the app, but it appears MacroFactor is more interested in creating obstacles at every turn, limiting seamless program uploads to partner public figures who sell their programs for $40+. That brings me to the built-in programs that are not third-party or uploaded from a purchased source. Frankly, they are all pretty lousy and lack the detailed specificity cycle training associated with more sophisticated Trainer programs. Focus settings are nice but completely ambiguous on implementation and arbitrarily capped at various levels depending on muscle type. Creating new exercises is like solving a cypher with the number of questions to set up the exercise with non-intuitive labels and no “helper” buttons to provide a simple explanation for what the various criteria even mean. I shouldn’t have to exist the interface and have ChatGPT explain to me how MFWO classifies the “stability” of an exercise. Apple Health integration is another horribly executed and inconsistent feature. The app will run a custom workout simultaneously on the phone and Apple Watch but at workout conclusion it may or may not log the exercise calories in Active Calories, even when given full write privileges in Apple Health. It might just show up in Workouts. You just don’t know! So, on potential and interface the app would score a 4.5 and on an implementation/execution perspective it deserves 0.5-1.0, but the real problem is I truly believe they have the ability to make a more capable and usable product that JUST WORKS but have chosen not to invest the time or resources into doing so. This is a fragmented app space and no one does it great all-around, but this app’s high ratings are truly puzzling to me! Sorry!
Cardio
App seems good but there’s no option to focus on and prioritize cardio
It’s not even close
This is the most thoughtful workout app I have ever used. Better than trying to use AI to make my own workout plan.
Using for a few months— Do not recommend
I have been using this app for a free months and the coaches program is terrible. Neely every workout has bugs with predicting how much weight I can do and I have to fix it. You will not be paying for what is advertised on here. For example, when doing a leg press for 450, I will be recommended to squat 375 the next week even though I only do 245 regularly. Or I will get the kettlebell side bend at 105 lbs… even though a week ago I performed 45. These bugs are constant and happen for most exercises despite me logging information correctly. Developers please fix these tracking issues so I can use this app again.
IT DOES THE WORK!
I’ve really been enjoying MacroFactor Workouts. The workout builder is clean, easy to use, and makes tracking my training simple. It’s become a big part of my routine. The only downside is that it can be a bit buggy at times. Every now and then things don’t sync correctly or the app feels a little unstable, but nothing that completely ruins the experience. One feature I’d love to see is an Apple Watch app. Being able to start workouts, log sets, rest timers, and track everything directly from my watch would make the experience even better and much more convenient in the gym. Overall, it’s a great workout app with a lot of potential. Fixing the occasional bugs and adding Apple Watch support would easily make it one of the best fitness apps available.
Good for brand new beginners - not much else
MacroFactor is the best nutrition tracking app I’ve used, and I’ve tried most of them. The workout programming feature, however, feels like a separate product built for a different user. The exercise recommendations seem to be generated for a general population with no training history or specific goals, and if you’re an intermediate lifter with a structured program already, the sessions will feel generic and somewhat random in their emphasis. For example lateral raises appeared in nearly every session of my generated split (and I did request an emphasis on those muscles) while movements more relevant to my goals were underrepresented. The app recommends a full body program which goes against most of the science backed research today. If you have a workout already building that as a custom program is incredibly time consuming and if you’re looking to migrate from spreadsheets it’s not worth it. My recommendation is use MacroFactor exclusively for nutrition tracking and run your own programming independently.
Need Apple Watch asap
This app seems great and i would make a full switch to it…. But…. Until it’s on apple watch, i can’t. Apple watch asap please. I’ll full switch to this app the day that happens
5 stars
Very intuitive app!
Smart Generation is bad
If you have limited equipment the smart generation is bad. The app should have never released that function if they weren’t going to perfect it. Doing upper lower split (because they don’t have ppl so it is either UL or Fullbody) I had a leg day with one set of squats and two calf raises. Their suggestion box are where ideas go to die. They use to be active on Reddit but not so much anymore. Half way through the year and all the hope at the start has died. I just give up. I really tried and I give up. This app has killed my motivation to workout. As I stress out about finding a program that works and isn’t silly.
Widgets
Needs widget support. Would love to track my weight or pr on my home page. Make it easily visible and I can quickly add weight by clicking it.
Disappointing over the long run
Huge fan of MacroFactor but after 6 months I’m moving back to Hevy and will use their API for customization. Why? 1. UX is poor and ultimately too much and too confusing 2. Sets don’t update, recommendations are all over the place 3. No Apple watch app I spend more time using the app than focusing on my workouts.
Will be great eventually
Huge glitch. I’ve been a MF user for dieting for about 2 years. I’m sure I’ll eventually not need it but it’s so helpful I’ve justified the $12/mo cost to keep it for that entire time. But a black eye experience has been constantly getting signed out of the workout app and having to attempt to restore my subscription, which it fails to do constantly. It has made it difficult to rely on this app when my other workout tracker works 100% of the time and it’s free. Devs need to figure this out - why is my MF account having so many issues translating to the workout app? Once fixed I’m sure I’ll be able to finally rely on this app for my workout tracking.
Perfect except one thing
Would be perfect if it let you change what day of the week the app starts on. I wish I could change it to Sunday rather than the default Monday. Seems like it would be a simple thing to add
Canceled
I canceled day one of my two week trail, at the end of that trial I still got a force charged. This app needs reviewed by apple before being allowed to still be on the platform.
More Focus Points
I really enjoy the app and I appreciate the evidence based programming. One feature I love to see is the ability to add more than five focus points, or an advanced mode that can allow 6 to 8 focus points. I think five works well for many users but experienced the lifters often have more than five focus points they like to prioritize. It would be great to see the app could intelligently distribute volume across those priorities while still managing recovery.
Useful for many but not for me
So I think the main thing holding the app back is that there's almost too much fidelity in its features and exercises. It’s really nice to specify the range of motion and all the different muscle groups involved, even down to the movement plane. However, the exercise library, while fully stocked, feels overwhelming due to the sheer number of variations. For example, it's not just a row; it’s a chest-supported pronated grip row or a chest-supported neutral grip row. These are simple examples, but there are many more tiny nuances between exercises. Nine times out of ten, when I'm putting together a program, I just want to know where the flat bench press is, not the dozens of other variations. The gym profiles idea seems neat at first, but it ultimately complicates things because there are so many choices of equipment, and none of them perfectly match the exercises you may have planned. If you’re in a home gym with limited equipment, you might find that the exercise you’re searching for doesn’t appear because of a small hiccup, like typing "plate loaded pull down" when the exercise is actually a "pen loaded plate down." It’s unclear why these details are so significant. The gym profiles feature becomes a hindrance with far too many exercises to choose from, creating noise when trying to assemble a program. Once you have a program together and you’re doing the exercises, it feels pretty good at that point, but I do think the app is showing its age. Flutter, the framework it’s built on, allows for cross-platform development, which is why it looks like an Android app rather than an iOS app. This can be irritating, especially when there are free or native apps that offer similar functionality with live activities. Another issue is that while they have access to so much data and nuance in exercises, not all of that gets exposed through the export function. When you export your data, you receive a limited set of information. While the export does contain some valuable data, it could be much more extensive for those looking to perform their own data analysis. In summary, I think Macrofactor's workouts app is good, and I’ve used it for a long time, but it has become incredibly fussy to navigate. I wish they would adopt the same perspective they did with Macrofactor, which focuses on quick food entry. The workouts app, particularly in terms of program creation, doesn’t feel quick or efficient; it feels error-prone.
50:50 early days
Just started using this and it’s set me up as lifting max reps in first sets. No warmups at all. At nearly 50 years old, that’s a bit stupid. Maybe I’ve set this up wrong but it feels like an injury waiting to happen if I do this. Can’t find a way to contact MacroFactor to find out if I’m setting it up wrong? Workouts NEED to have warm up and cool down included - or at least the option to automatically add.
Great App
I just got into lifting and this helps me a lot during my workouts. Wish more people used this app!
No corporate oversight for employee conduct
I am writing this review to advise others about a significant lack of professional accountability in this company's support structure. I had a distressing experience in the app with a senior agent. I was told by both him and another agent as well as in reddit, that no escalation path exists and there is no supervisor above them to address grievances. It is a major red flag that a company forces customers to communicate solely with the individual they are complaining about with no corporate oversight.
Great! but...
Really awesome in the gym wish I could add my cardio in here too to be able to track everything in 2 spots (got the macro app too which is 5 stars no doubt)
Disappointed in the lack of simple features
The program the app built for me was so random and consisted of 8 exercises per workout. Lack of built in exercises- how does it not have pull-ups??! Progressive overload (main reason I signed up) doesn’t work. Appears to be no catalogue of workouts to choose from. I do like the interface and lock screen preview and interaction. Style over substance. Hoped for more.
Lacking Functionality with Manually Created Programs
Had a lot of great features. Unfortunately, it lacks the one feature that is important to me: while it will automatically adjust weight or rep goals, it doesn’t yet have the ability to automatically adjust RIR or number of sets for exercises in manually created programs.
Impressive
Easy to use
Unresponsive
The app is unresponsive keeps using equipment I don’t have pretty much not worth anyone’s money chatgbt can do what it does because it doesn’t record properly
Keep Improving
Coming from a workout tracking app, it takes some getting used to. This is not a workout tracker but an all-in-one coach that actively modifies your reps and weights to prioritize your gains. It’s fantastic but sometimes difficult to remember to do what it says, rather than what you’re capable of. It just needs smart watch integration, badly. They also need to continue updating the available machines/workouts with Nippard demonstrations.
Uninstalled immediately after it suggested a program
Seems to be geared towards a specific demographic. If you're a serious lifter and already know what a good program looks like then you're better off sticking with a free app or even just pen and paper. This app tries to hold your hand during sign up and spits out an AI generated nonsense program that might get you gains if you've never lifted before
Great concept
I love everything about the way this does its workout routines and I like the setup of individual gyms, and I love that all the workouts show Jeff Nippard doing them haha. BUT I need an Apple Watch companion app with the functionality to advance the workout. I record a lot of my workouts on my phone so the phone is usually away from me on my tripod. Add a companion app and I will re-download this for sure.
10/10
Where has this app been all my life? lol
Not user-friendly
This thing is so confusing. It has all them teeth, but no toothbrush.
Great app but…
Great app, will change to 5 star as soon as there are more programs. Would love to see a PPL option
Lots of current issues, all fixable
The bad: Generally over engineered, unintuitive. Lacks video examples of women performing exercises. Buggy: have lost multiple workout sessions due to workouts getting stuck and unable to complete. Way too many clicks to just see what I did on an exercise last session. Doesn’t tell me the name of the workout in the history logs. Can’t see actual set logs from dashboard. Appears to use some weird rolling window algo to calculate 1rm instead of discrete logged sets so that even when I lift less with the same weight my 1rm goes up for that session. Doesn’t allow you to change your logged set’s weight or reps without resetting rest timer. Exercise naming conventions are precise but hard to recognize on dash board when cutoff: half my exercises just say “Plate-Loaded…” or “Overhand Grip Pin Loaded…” and never get to the only thing I want to see there which is “Shoulder Press” or “Machine Row”. Can’t search for exercises to add to dashboard, must scroll through everything. Impossible to add two of the same exact workout to a single cycle without duplicating it, resulting in duplicating work when adding/removing exercises from that workout. The time estimates for a workout are wildly inaccurate, completely underselling how long a given workout will take. To make a point I plugged in Jeff’s own “45 minute leg routine” and the app guessed it would take 14 minutes. The good: sleek ui. Easily swap exercises during a session. Easy to add/remove sets or exercises during a session. Extremely wide and precise available exercise selection. Easily see number of sets per muscle per week
All alone
Technically and visually it’s the biz. But there doesn’t seem To be anywhere to ask a question about the workouts. Adding a link to Insta does not count. I’ve asked a question there it gets no reply. It would Venice to understand the reason a for the selection the reps and RIR.
Love It
Love all the features! The videos are superb! I love that I can upload my JN programs and still individualize them for equipment available at my gym or personal preference. I can add exercises not already in the library. And the way the app adapts to me and my previous workouts (suggested weight, reps, etc) can’t be beat!
Confusing
I don’t know if it’s because it’s promotional access but I litekay cannot adjust anything with this app. I need to change what I have and there’s no way to do that ever since I got new equipment.
Great to start
I love that it creates plans for you and you can track workouts. That part is amazing. I wish it put progressive plans forward though so it evolves with training, I thought that was what it was going to do.
Having to re-build my plan and equipment every time I open is very annoying. It doesn’t save any account info when the app closes
Can’t see how to contact them…
I have a 14 and 15 year old kids, I take to the gym, there asking me to get them Macro factor and Macro workout, just to see if anyone knows, are purchased as one, or separate and is their kids prices?
Worth Every Penny
I’ve been lifting for over 15 years, the last decade of it bodybuilding-focused. For most of that time I tracked everything in a notebook and ran programs I found online — plans that were repetitive and impersonal, because they were never built for me in the first place. Three weeks into this app, the difference is obvious. The programming is excellent, and the way it adjusts weights and rep schemes is genuinely impressive. Being able to swap exercises and equipment based on gym profiles makes the whole thing seamless. I’ll be a subscriber for as long as this app exists. Highly recommend.
Poor if in UK - look elsewhere
In the UK we get weighed in pounds, but lift weights in KG. If you set the default weight to pounds, you need to manually select the weight to KG after every single set. Or convert your weight manually to KG every time you update it (which I do daily). This makes the app such a huge hassle and impractical. It looks pretty but separate defaults are needed. Support basically told me to live with the hassle, and then ignored my reply.
Best I’ve used, but more work needed.
It’s the best workout tracking app I’ve used, but I still believe notes to be superior due to flexibility. Being able to use RPE over RIR would be great. Great variety of exercises. Love being able to see total weekly sets right in front of me. App is great at predicting RIR For strength focus, more work needed, hypertrophy works great.
Interface is needlessly complex
I wanted to like this app but its interface is overly complicated. The design just gets in the way of actually working out.
Not fully ready
I was excited to start using this but it appears the app is not fully ready, the programs at the moment are only offering U/L splits or full body work outs so you are stuck either way those unless you want to build one from scratch but every other gym app offers that so at the moment this does not stand out value for money for an app not quite ready yet.
Hands down the best work out tracker I’ve tried.
Title says it
Disappointed
I specifically highlighted that I wanted to focus on my lower body. For 3 workouts a week the app now gave me 2 upper body workouts with exercises for muscle groups I said to avoid, and only one lower body day. No way to edit in free trial mode but no way am I paying for an app that gets the basics so wrong.
Great app but…
Is a great app but you cannot add new exercises or cardio in …
Not worth the current price
UI/UX is a mess. No apple watch app. Many exercise videos missing. Overly verbose written instructions. Using RIR system is a very questionable decision for the average lifter. Not worth the current asking price when other competitors simply do everything better.
It isn’t very complete yet
It’s a decent app, but if it were not included for free in the promotional bundle, I wouldn’t pay for it. The program builder will not be of much aid to someone unless they are an absolute beginner and have no idea what to do, and that type of person is unlikely to be interested in a gym tracker. The other features of the program are also not very refined yet. I don’t quite recommend it yet. I will update it if/when the app improves and gets updated
