Great until the last chapter
The final chapter simply can’t be played on a smartphone. The artwork is not clear and key clues barely visible. I had no choice but to read the hint book at that point and was frankly amazed when it told me what to look for. They simply weren’t visible and once I knew where they were, I had to take screen shots and magnify them. Major design error in my view. Oh… and developers… Game of Thrones had a more satisfying ending… seriously?!! 😡

I loved it from beginning to end
A complete waste of time!
Graphics is good, but that’s about all what’s good about it. Long non-skippable credits, long conversations (somewhat skippable, but you have to keep on swiping down with 2 fingers to skip one spoken sentence, totally annoying). As for the game itself, you have to keep on going to your bag to look at purple book for “clues” which are basically instructions for ongoing tasks. Even if you figured something out you can’t do anything unless you run around and fail first then do EXACTLY what the purple book tells you to advance. And stupid STUPID ending!! Just when you think you are finally getting somewhere and maybe you will learn the secret, the story just ends, making you feel like it was complete waste of hours of playing. I would give it zero stars if I could. Good thing I played through Apple Arcade and didn’t pay 10 bucks for this. Or else I would be really really MAD!!!
WITTY BUT CLUES MANDATORY TO PROGRESS
The game dialog is witty and fun. The difficulty is reasonable, although it is pretty much impossible to proceed without clues (many next steps cannot be figured out with logic and clues are the only way forward). Thankfully, the clues are quite helpful when you get in a bind. I’d play a sequel if it’s offered on Apple Arcade in the future.
Deconstructionist Drivel
So-and-so gameplay, but the story's ending spits in the face of fans for some deconstructionist message. It didn't work with Monkey Island 2, so why would it work now?

Ich habe mich gefreut, ein Spiel aus meiner Jugend mal wieder zu finden. Die Anfang Sequenzen waren auch ganz lustig nur leider lässt sich das Spiel nicht mehr weiterspielen es sich fest fährt. Die Sprach-Sequenz beim Anker lässt sich nicht überspringen, weil die Gesten auf dem Touchscreen nicht funktionieren.
Worth every minute!
With its fascinating characters, challenging puzzles, and a growing array of places to explore, the creators have crafted a game that’s truly enjoyable. I especially appreciate the note from the creators at the end; it gives the game a sense of depth beyond just entertainment. P.S. Apple Bob is the best!

Great game, but why no Apple TV?
Took a while to get used to the new graphics, but I almost feel like a child again playing the original Secret of Monkey Island…only thing that irks me is that this isn’t supported to play on Apple TV. Even with a ProPlus phone screen, I find it a bit difficult to navigate the controls, and I don’t feel like I’m getting the full appreciation of the game on this little screen…still appreciate the addition of this to Arcade, though!

Cannot Play Outside Audio
I have been trying to play this game for around 30 minutes. It looks fun. Good graphics, witty writing, etc. There’s just one problem: the game freezes if I dare play YouTube audio on the background. Put another way, the game cannot be played unless the player agrees to only listen to the app’s audio. This is intentional as other reviews have raised the same issue. To the Developer: I don’t care that you own Chuck from Audio a favor. I can read the subtitles perfectly well. This choice, and yes it is a choice, is disrespectful to the player.
Amazing game bad ending
Im not going to lie the ending was bad it didn’t make sense at all and, i get what the creators were trying to symbolize but how it was composed made it feel unfinished at best. BUT this is an amazing game with awesome puzzles and a great array of characters I strongly recommend this game.
Ending makes no sense
I understand it’s hard to end a game like this well. But the ending is just nonsense. It makes no sense in regard to the storyline at all. The “explanation” of why it ends that way doesn’t fit the entire first 95% of the game. Feels like they just scrapped something together to finish it, but it’s really really bad. Very disappointing.

Less Grog But That's OK
I've been a Monkey Island fan since receiving a free tee shirt for completing a short trial version of the game in . . . whenever that was. The SOMI itself has always held a place in my heart for its unique take on sword fighting, acidic grog and red herrings. Playing 'Return to Monkey Island' these . . . many . . . years later duplicated the joys of the original game while simultaneously challenging me with innovative puzzles to aid the characters on their journey. I look forward to seeing if Threepwood's newly-discovered yarn spinning abilities and insights into underworld humor will aid him in any future swashbuckling endeavors. The only drawback? Now I want to wear my Secret of Monkey Island tee and have absolutely no idea what's become of it.

I have the patch transformed and ready to get on le chucks ship. I can’t put it on anywhere on the docks. The game is bugged.

Ebenfalls als betagter Fan der Reihe würde ich mich gerne den ganzen positiven Bewertungen meiner Vorgänger anschließen. Leider wird mein Spielspaß gebremst, weil ich auf jedem anderen Gerät das Spiel von Vorne beginnen muss, da die Spielstände bei identischer GameCenter-ID nicht auf dem gleichen Stand gehalten werden. So ist man gezwungen das Spiel nur auf einem Gerät zu spielen. Auch das Überspringen der „nervtötenden“ Dialoge funktioniert technisch bei mir nicht. Würden diese Dinge nicht sein, hätte ich auch fünf Sterne gegeben.

Wont work with apple trackpad
This game assumes you use a mouse so it's impossible to do anything as the action button is the top left button of the mouse. However/wherever I try on the track pad it doesn't work. Is there something I should be doing that Im not doing?

Nostalgia
What a great “next episode” to the throw back games. I used to play them as a kid and now as an adult, get to relive the characters with a new and interesting story line. Thank you to the developers for this. The letter at the end is spot on how I feel as well.

Grottiger Einstieg, unterhaltsames Spiel
Das schlecht gemachte Tutorial am Anfang hätte mich fast davon abgehalten, das Spiel weiter zu spielen. So hat es zB. nicht funktioniert, den Endlos-Monolog mit zwei Fingern abzubrechen. Ich musste das Spiel neu starten und die Szene übergehen. Auch die Figuren fand ich wenig ansprechend. Überhaupt hätte man die Rahmenhandlung weglassen sollen. Es geht dann aber deutlich besser weiter. Grafik, Humor und Story sind zwar nicht so ganz meins, aber insgesamt ist das ein wirklich gut gemachtes, unterhaltsames Adventure. Die Rätsel sind nicht zu schwer bzw. Lösungen nicht zu abwegig. Der Spielverlauf ist flüssig und kurzweilig, die Welt, in der man sich bewegt, vielfältig und abwechslungsreich. Nach längerer Durststrecke endlich mal wieder ein Highlight auf Arcade.

We also have different characters and also San he makes a return back but he’s in a jail sale and oh my gosh this game is so adventurous and so good return to monkey Island. Great game, screen shuts off
If you set your phone to turn off the screen after 30-60 seconds it constantly turns off whenever listening to dialog (unless you tap the screen repeatedly every few seconds to tell the phone you’re “active”). It’s not a problem in other games where you don’t interact with the screen for an extended period of time. It must be an option when the game is running to avoid shutting off the screen. It’s super annoying and I don’t want to have to change the display settings just for this game. It requires time to read or listen to characters so this change would make a huge difference, especially for accessibility. Otherwise this game is 5 stars unquestionably!
