Mealie app
Easy to set up going to give it a go
Rubbish cooking instructions
The cooking instructions are poor. The screen jumps so you can’t read the full instructions or see how much to add. Very poor first experience.
Convenient and quick
This app is brilliant so far! I did the free week trial and decided I needed to keep it! So many recipes to choose from and the transfer straight to our weekly Tesco shop couldn’t be simpler!
What has happened?
This last update has made the app unusable. It won’t change meal plan. Won’t change supermarket. Won’t accept recipe changes. Please review it was so very helpful before!
Great app 70% of the time
This app is such a great idea, pity it’s so buggy when you need it most. App won’t generate a new meal plan, it’s slow sometimes when you try to add or remove recipes. Tells you to try later??? Support is also slow to respond. Not what you would expect from a paid for app.
Helpful
Very helpful and straightforward 😍
Bad customer service and unwanted subscription
This is a scam, will take money for a subscription without you agreeing then mess you about when you ask for your money back. Avoid unless you can afford to have your money taken without agreeing.
Great App
This app is great for meal ideas and help with choosing what to cook. I love how you can transfer the shopping list to the actual shops. It makes things so easy. As a diabetic it’s hard to choose meals sometimes and to make this app even better showing the nutritional values like the amount of carbs in each meal would make this app even better!
Charged for free trial
I selected the free trial to give this app okay, sounded like a great idea and way to change meals up and save money. After selecting the free trial I was immediately charged £30 for the year. I have contacted support twice and haven’t received a response yet. Can’t comment on the app itself as I haven’t used it for its purpose. Just be wary as the free trial doesn’t seem to actually be free.
Looks smart but not practical
When trying to follow the recipe it assumes you weigh and measure everything before you start cooking - which maybe you do if you’re an influencer, but I just add as I go along (saves on washing up!) problem is you cant easily see measurements and have to flick around the app. Not made any of the recipes they suggest but have imported my family favourites, and this does help with planning the weekly shop.
Mr s
Absolutely brilliant app
Poor AI
Told it multiple times to not include meals with certain ingredients and it just includes more meals with those ingredients. If you have dietary preferences or allergies, don’t bother.
Access
Not impressed that no one has contacted me after I emailed twice about the access problem I am having. The app looks great but after paying I have no access!
Decent app but could do with some key features
I really like how quick, simple and expansive the app is. I love that in a couple of seconds I can see a variety of recipes and how much it will cost for my specific family. Features I’d like to see that would make this 5⭐️: “My cupboard” option to add items I already have in my cupboards. The Ai should then be able to reference what we have and adjust the shopping list as necessary. Ways to organise meals outside of favourites. Such as dinners/lunch/snacks/sides etc
Everything You Need, From Idea to Plate
I’ve tried many meal planning apps, but this is the first that truly covers the entire journey from deciding what to eat to enjoying the meal. It stands out by connecting every step from offering inspiration, creating a meal plan, generating a shopping list, and guiding you through cooking. The process feels seamless and removes the usual hassle. As a result, I spend less time organising and more time enjoying good food. Healthy, varied meals feel easy instead of demanding. If you want an app that handles the whole process, this is an easy win.
Useless
Mealia asked me what I wanted so I said high protein vegan and low fodmap. Mealia had two recipes, both were high fodmap, it doesn’t seem to have the ability to create recipes on the fly, and it immediately locked both incorrect high fodmap meals behind a paywall requiring immediate payment. Cannot wait for this feature to come to Gemini and ChatGPT, in a version that’s actually useful. This app is over before it began
Lack of Vegan options
While I love the idea for the app itself in being able to have my recipes and shopping all in one place, the bot and vegan options leave much to be desired. I attempted to create meal plan multiple times trying different options but could not seem to get the bot to show any meals which were vegan friendly and would show meat or dairy options when I requested no meat or dairy. I can appreciate that the app may not show vegan alternative products for shopping but this is something I think needs work in the future.
Not for the inexperienced
This app provides lots of meal ideas but the cooking methods should be taken with a pinch of salt (pun intended because seasoning is generally an afterthought or missing altogether). Cooking times are off, and the order in which you add things seems random. Take the ideas, use the shopping list function and then go with your gut on quantities, cooking times and running order. People new to cooking and attempting to follow the recipes are likely to end up with some very dodgy dinners.
The app I’ve been looking for!
Amazing app! Exactly what I’ve been looking for with a baby. The variety of recipes is excellent and includes nutritional info. As the app adds products to your chosen supermarket basket, it cuts the time it takes to do the weekly shop drastically!
Terrible service
The app told me I was eligible for a 7 day free trial- great! So I go through the motions only to be charged £24.99 off the bat! So I cancelled my subscription straight away. Get in touch with their virtual assistant, told someone will be in touch ‘shortly’ I’ve been chasing for 5 days with no response from anyone. I want a refund and based on this experience I will not be continuing to use this service.
adversitsed as a free app
this app is supposed to help you save money but u have to buy a subscription instead? unless u are preparing the food as ur using it (which ur not because i have to buy ingredients) you lose access to the meal u just saw and have to go through hundreds of meal plans until u see it again
Love it!
Mealia was so helpful and budget friendly! Lots of different dishes at the tap of a few buttons
No support for app
I wanted to try out the app so i got the 7 day trial , forgot to cancel it and was billed for the yearly plan. Been trying to get the refund, requests have been denied. Tried to get in touch via email with the developers. No response in weeks.
No clear guidance
I was so hopeful to use this app, thought it was easy to use and made some lovely dinners during the free trial. However I am confused by what each subscription tier gets me. Emailed on several occasions to find out as I wanted to sign up and pay for the year but there are several priced options. No response so I didn’t sign up. More information for each tier would be good and likely get more subscribers.
Food
So helpful
Doesn’t work
I put a £60 budget for 2 people, chose Sainsbury’s, put the requirements low calorie High protein meals. Pescatarian and vegetarian and it said there was only 1 recipie i could add to my meal plan. Which is insane. And 0 other matches. So it’s very rubbish and not worth it.
Poor AI
Asked not to include certain food in the recipe plan and guess what. Get multiple recipes with said unwanted ingredients
Love it
I was on social media and I came across this app and it’s amazing really cheap to join for the year and easy to use I only cook for 2 people and the meals are a great variety and the instructions are based on how many you want to cook for and cooking instructions are so easy to follow also it sends the groceries straight to the shop I want to buy from so it makes my shopping list is much cheaper I would recommend this app to anyone that is interested in saving money and cooking different dinners
Think twice before set preferences to Halal
The agent needs more training, and the app would benefit from giving users more control over their account preferences. For example, I asked for halal recipes, but it only suggested vegetarian meals, even seafood was excluded. I then opened a chat with the agent and asked for chicken and meat recipe suggestions, but it repeatedly said it couldn’t find any. It even asked whether I had a specific dish in mind. When I suggested lasagna, it still responded that it couldn’t find any recipes which is weird! I also tried to find where I could review or change these preferences myself, but I couldn’t find the option anywhere. Overall, the experience felt quite limited and frustrating, especially for something as common as halal meal recommendations.Simply don’t suggest Pork, Ham …etc but meat, chicken and seafood should be fine!
Avoid if you have dietary requirements
I saw a lot of positive reviews on this app so I was looking forward to giving it a try. The process of getting the meal plan is so easy. However, when it came to generating the meal plan, none of my dietary requirements were included and a lot of foods I cannot eat were listed as ingredients. I tried numerous times to rectify this with the app, but, unfortunately it wouldn’t work. It’s a shame as I was really looking forward to using this app to help with meal prepping and saving money on groceries.
Actually useful
I used to look up and down every row when I went to the shops, with Mealia I'm not worrying about what to eat. Easily saving hours, and eating better meals.
Scam!
They took money out of my bank without my say so!
Meh
It’s okay. I understand its in beta so has a long way to go, but it didnt include meat in 6/7 meals and then wouldnt let me change my meal plan or budget to suit mu requirements. And when it’s charging £30 a month to use, id rather just open a recipe book and make my own recipe changes for free.
Easy so far
Easy so far!
So glitchy and basically doesn’t work
I had such high hopes for this app and in principle it should be amazing but it just kept breaking constantly making it pretty much unusable - such a shame. It’s a great concept and would be brilliant if it worked.
£30pm for something to help you save money…
Like everything online these days they try and advertise it to help you save money while shopping but yet you need to spend £30 a month 🤦♂️
