cool game though. theres multiple guns and like alot of upgrades. wish there was a faster progression mode though.
Am I handicapped or something
I can’t get passed the 3rd level. I have played games my entire life and never felt like a game was ment for some kid with lightning quick reflexes. A game shouldn’t be this difficult to play. Am I just that much of a noob I can’t get passed the first dungeon. I would think so?! Yet I’m stuck on constantly plunging into level 1-3 over and over again.
Really good! (but there’s a but)
The game is really amazing. I haven’t played it in a bit, but although it doesn’t have a tutorial it does not need one, it’s really beautifully simple. But… The damned bats are too many / too overpowered. They spawn a lot, especially in Caverns. Which is the only stage I’ve been on. Because of the bats. Incredible execution, but the bats are annoying and are FAR too easy to be caught by.
BIG CRASHING BUGS
I love this game, don’t get me wrong, but it’s crashed three to four times within the first month of playing. The crashing specifically occurs right at the bottom of the downwell to the next level, then it just hangs, no response, where instead you would pick a perk and continue, thanks a bunch for any help!
Amazing!! But..
Downwell is an amazing game that clearly has a lot of care put into it, cute graphics, challenging yet not annoying and I totally recommend to anyone! BUT. PLEASE add custom control layouts. The buttons are too low and is quite uncomfortable, and I always find myself tapping the wrong button which has ruined runs in several cases.

Like Mario, but bad
It your basic 2d platformer with a twist: none of the hitboxes are coded correctly. Half the time you bounce on a goomba’s (read bats) it damages you instead of you damaging it! Rare L from Devolver, definitely skip this one!
Weird bug but otherwise great game
I love this game and I’m genuinely addicted to it. However I’ve encountered this bug on a couple of occasions where after ending the level the game freezes and all the progress is thrown out the window. I hope this bug gets fixed because otherwise this is an amazing game.
Fine but sick of overly difficult roguelites
High on style and smooth controls but the hallmark of a rushed game is here: overly difficult and punishing mechanics. I get it, but I would love to play the game beyond the first level and I don’t have enough time to care about getting good. Already uninstalled, probably forgettable.

Fun briefly, not worth playing again.
It was a promising start, but this game is plagued with too much to overlook. - The limit to three colors makes reading the game hard, especially with how fast everything typically goes. - There is no help with understanding mechanics, causing many unfair deaths the first couple of runs. You’re expected to over-analyze each enemy to understand what you should and shouldn’t do. Nothing is obvious the first go around. - It is hard to control, the character moves so fast and the constant screen shaking from the gunboots discourages you from using the main mechanic if you want to be able to see. I never felt like I had full control of my character. - Beyond repetitive. Same order of stages, not enough items, and the unlockables barely change anything. There’s nothing worth working towards. Find a different rouge-like. You’re not missing anything if you skip over this one.
Gud game
Pretty hard but it gets easier after practice, I like the fact that it switches to the catacombs, and that they add more weird and unique enemies. Fun game reccomended by me :)

Loved this game on switch but it plays so much better on a controller it’s night and day. Also have had multiple runs lost due to the game crashing on my iPhone SE. Amazing game , bad version.
Great game
So this game is really difficult and that’s what makes it fun awesome game great and simple controls played for maybe two or three years but Genuinly (trying not to spoil anything for others reading this) not expecting what happens on abyss-1 still died but had a blast on it (pun intended) I don’t understand why people leave bad reviews on games for the difficulty skill issue to be honest. One more thing most people fail to realize how much easier the game is if you become a pro at the game getting use to using the floaty style
Please give more sound control
I would love to play this game on my phone but there is no way to mute the sound effects or have any control over in game volume. So I cannot listen to anything else on my phone while I play, which I am always doing.

This game makes me mad
This game is SUPER fun until it isn’t. I would highly suggest only playing this game if you are in the market for a new phone because after being killed by the thousandth bat, you will want to snap your phone in half like a graham cracker. The only other situation that one should play this game is if it is immediately followed by putting a .357 in your mouth.
Can you please change the age rating?
Monkey Island really needs a age rating change. Can you change the age rating 9 year old? Oh it also make sure to change the age rating of the plus version.
Wow dreadful
What a dreadful game. It would have to be good to get over the (intentional) spectrum graphics but it’s unresponsive, unnecessarily hard and really genuinely ugly. Like hit every branch on the ugly tree on the way down ugly. Which would be forgivable if it was playable. Please provide better games for Apple Arcade as this is crud. No offence.
Slow down
I love this game to pieces but recently the game has been seen significant frame drops that cuts the game speed down by half. I hope this gets fixed soon!
Lots of bugs and issues
Abilities that regenerate health do not work at all. There is a small white bar under the health that never goes above one. You clip into a lot of enemies right after your invincibility ends, when in other cases you can stomp and enemy from below somehow. Fun game, but I got all the unlocks in a day. Also why are there pallets with only 2 colors? It’s like a secret hidden difficulty with some of them lol.

Pretty good game
I’ve been playing for a while now and the game is pretty good but I have a few issues 1. Not enough upgrades After you play a few times you’ve seen all the upgrades and it makes the game kinda stale :( 2. Too hard I’ve only gotten to the second area only once in my time playing the game, I think the game would be better if there was more of a more graudual difficulty increase..

Down well is one of my favorite indie games of all time but the lack of controller support and a landscape option hinders this port for me.
Nice premise good retro graphics
It’s a nice idea but it would be great if we could move the controls. It feels wrong for me the the controls are on the left and shooting on the right.

Just a lot of monochromatic low res mess. There’s a reason we don’t use ZX Spectrums for gaming any more. Hated it.

Add a way to turn off all sounds. Ridiculous when I’m trying to listen to music and I’m hearing sounds from the game

Many people dislike the game because of its lack of information in the beginning, but that’s a part of the game. Learning to play and understand the game after each run is part of the experience.

Just too messy and all over the place.
Fun game, would appreciate being able to turn off the sound effects.
Only background music can be toggled, so it’s not great if you want to listen to something interruption free as you play.

At first it was very confusing, kinda just throws you in at the deep end and leaves you to figure everything out. But once you figure things out, it’s a very enjoyable game
