Glad I found this
Just started with this app and enjoy it so far! I can’t wait to see how this will help me stick to my tasks. Of note It would be fun to have different themes to choose between (ie cyberpunk, sci fi) to keep things fresh for your hero, I hope this app will continue to be developed!
Don’t bother
This is one of those apps that forces you through this long pointless and goofy questionnaire only to be hit at the end with the 7 day trial, it’s gonna be $5 a month after that. I deleted, I can’t stand the fake questionnaire that literally has zero effect on the app experience other than to create some “investment” on the user end to increase likely hood of payment. Based on that alone I know the app is gonna suck and be an endless money grab.
Love the interactive game aspects for my to-do list
I love game-based to-do lists and I really appreciate the different timers provided for the focus sessions when completing tasks. I only did 4 stars because I'd like to be able to "hide" my tasks. I can only filter by Due, Done, and All. I'd like to be able to filter by Today's, Tomorrow's, Overdue, etc. so the To-Do list doesn't get overwhelming to look at. Immediate visual organizations really does wonders. It would also help to be able to re-order the substeps in tasks instead of deleting and re-typing them in order again. I hope these features get added in the next update because it's hard finding a good to-do list app that I actually want to use
Manipulative
Listen… I understand the goal of this is to be an manipulative and positive ways, but the questions asked and the responses they give during the questionnaire at the top of this experience were unfair and psychologically damaging. By asking how much time you spend on the screen per day, and then he equating that to an amount of money that you would be paid in minimum wage over those hours? That’s terrible. That’s tricking people and deciding it’s worth the money to spend on this app. There are other ways to communicate to someone that they could be spending their time and more valuable ways than on the phone without that level of shame, and folding to corporate greed “self-help “propaganda
Probably great for some people.
First of all, contrary to many other reviewers, I think that the annual subscription fee is fair to keep the game advertisement free considering the fact that a solo dev is providing ongoing updates. ~$6USD/month is totally reasonable. That said, the other options get a bit wacky in my opinion. $7 per week shouldn’t be an option. Someone who accidentally leaves a subscription like that running might unwittingly spend over $360 annually, and I think the monthly fee is a bit high, nearing World of Warcraft’s monthly subscription fee. That said, I ran into some performance issues, and I didn’t always feel like I was being rewarded for completing tasks, which led to a pattern of leaving the timer to run even after I had completed the task at hand. Once you cross that threshold into running the timer despite inactivity, you’re defeating the purpose of the app altogether, and while I accept full responsibility for my own actions, it became more about trying to manipulate the game into giving me what I wanted than improving my focus. I used this app on and off for a year, and it was a fun and engaging way to build better habits. The combat in sessions and updated trials in adventure mode were engaging without being inaccessible, and I don’t remotely regret using the app. I also think the newest update sounds exciting, and I might be willing to return at a later date, but as my annual subscription fee is coming up again, I find that the cost, performance issues, and occasional bugs make it difficult for me to justify continuing. I think this app has a lot of potential, and I think I might recommend it to a certain kind of person, but for general people, I would give it 3/5 stars.
Help?
I had this app for free and had all my stuff on it, and now it’s telling me I have to pay. I can’t get into the app at all, so I lost all my progress.
Obnoxiously spammy
It’s impossible to tell if it even has a free tier. Blocks it until you take the “free trial” which you may forget to cancel (this should be the business model of many apps)
Great for small rewards
It gives me the small rewards I need to get through tough tasks and bigger rewards to look forward to. The app still has room for improvement (it’s a one dev team, so that’s totally understandable). Keep up the good work!
Crashes too much
I see the potential here and really wanted to like it. However i did not like the lack of ease for customizing goals. In addition, stopping a goal session froze my phone and it took several restarts of the app to get it working again.
Lost ny pets and cash
I focus heroes, since your update, I still have my weapons but all my cash and pets are gone, Im quite sad... Edit: I'm not sure I like the new version. I end up with so many create at the end of an adventure that only contains the same wood sword on repeat... that's weird.
Subtle Motivator. Great App!
This app has just enough to keep me invested without becoming another distraction. I think it is best used for a quick was to log tasks for incentives. Tracking times a dates for tasks, reminders and events I leave to my trusty calendar app.
One of the scummiest app intros ever
Dear god, I have never had an app that bugged me so much to subscribe as soon as I start it. Not only that, the "no thanks, I don't want to subscribe" buttons take a minute to fade in and are then incredibly faint, like those bad mobile game ads. There's even one screen where they make the X button blend in with the dog behind it so it's even harder to see! Really scummy, and then after saying no to a trial 5 times, it bothers you with incredibly long animations and five more screens just to say "Hey, I can help get your life together." Other apps do this but don't have nearly as many screens or long animations for it. And when you finally get past those obnoxious screens, you realize task customization is really limited, like not being able to control how often a task repeats. I can only assume the target audience for this focus app is boomers and children.

Keeps me focused
I like it… but it’s rough
Reward me for focus? Say no more. This is a brilliant way to gamify your productivity and I was so excited to put this to work. But… there’s 2 issues with this that make me uninterested in going premium or even keeping it on my phone. 1) you’re able to set up different goals you’re working towards. A few of mine are “chores”, “exercise”, “self care”. When you train, you pick your goal and the skill you’re training with it. I like this idea because it tracks the time set towards each goal. Ideally, you can review these numbers every few days or weekly and determine where you might want to spend some more time. 2 star rating because when I’m doing my focus, the app often switches the goal I’ve actually selected to the first one on the list. My goal numbers are wildly inaccurate as a result with over 19 hours in one goal area and less than 4 hours in every other one. If I was only using the app for focus and not for balance, this wouldn’t be an issue. But not being able to consistently track which goal I’m committing to is a huge fail in my book and it makes your time data useless 2) I was able to adventure when I first downloaded the app. And that’s it. If you don’t get premium, this app is nothing but a timer. I don’t know why they let me explore the adventure tab and bird/pet shops for about 30 hours before putting them behind a permanent paywall… but I’ve never seen those screens since. I could be enticed to check them out… but the existing glitchiness of the app really turns me off from rewarding them with my money. To get 5 stars on my review: - fix the “set goal” in the focus tab to not reset. OR let me edit the times I’ve spent on tasks later so they properly reflect where my time was spent - be clear about paywalls or don’t tease us. I spent a few minutes in adventure, realized I needed my stats up, and then never got to see the adventure screen again. I love the idea for this app but it’s kind of busted right now imo
So laggy
The app is exactly what I’ve been looking for. It gives me a real motivation to complete my tasks, and I actually feel excited to start focus sessions. The design is clean, and the customization options work really well for a study-focused app. Overall, the concept is excellent. However, the experience is severely affected by performance issues. The app is very laggy, to the point where it becomes difficult to use. It even crashed the first time I tried to start a focus session, and now it won’t open at all. Before that, I also had to restart it multiples times because the screen froze when I cancelled a session It’s honestly a shame, it would be a really great app
Where did all my points go?
When I opened Focus Hero this morning, it started up and acted like it was my very first time. I don’t know what happened, but I’m pretty upset because I assume this means all the points I’ve been earning are gone. How do I fix this!? This would have been a five star review, but after this, I don’t know. UPDATE: I went to the App Store and found a message inviting anyone to email the creator of this app with issues so I did. I received a very quick reply! Turns out my font setting were too big which affected how much of the app screen I could see. They advised me on how to fix this and now the app is working again. They said they’re submitting another update that should be available soon. I’m really pleased with their help and quick reply! They seem very dedicated to having a high quality app 😊

Was really excited to try this, but how in the world can you justify a $70/year subscription for it? Just seems predatory honestly.
Lots of potential
The structure is here for a really great app, but there are some issues. The concept overall is great, but the implementation is often buggy and confusing. Adventure mode is an interesting idea, but the combat mechanics don’t always function right. Equipping items has its own bugs. Sometimes selecting an item removes other items, or items change appearance. Sounds on the timer also stop working often. Despite the bugs, the basic mechanic of setting a timer and getting rewards (skill gain, gold, items) and unlocking new areas did keep me coming back during the free trial. I appreciate the effort and the work done here by a solo dev, but I think, ironically, this app could use a more focused approach. It seems like it is trying to do too much without the core functionality being ironed out.
Amazing Update
The game recently update and it added so much to it! The guy who made this game clearly believes in it and what it can do for our time. The shows in the product and honestly, that’s been true in how it’s helped me reclaim some of my time.
Immediately charged despite “free trial.” Refund denied. Possible scam.
I want to like this app, but the financial aspect is far too scammy. Within three hours of installing this app, I was charged the full $59.99 subscription price despite the App Store listing a seven‑day free trial with a reminder before the trial ends. I gave the app a second chance to see if I wanted to continue using it. On day five (yesterday), I decided it wasn’t a good fit for me and requested a refund from Apple, since I was well within the trial period. Apple denied the request with the message “This purchase is not eligible for a review,” which I’m currently appealing. Based on Reddit threads and App Store reviews, this exact issue has been reported by users for over a year. I’m now on day six of the trial and still have not received a refund. If the issue isn’t resolved, I will have no choice but to report the app for potential ongoing fraud, since users have reported losing hundreds of dollars to this unresolved issue. Final review pending resolution of this ongoing issue.
Fun and Cute!
As a nerd and fantasy lover, this app is really cute! I think where I would be more inclined to provide a five star rating would be if there was a bit more character customization, even just with being able to change the hero’s name. I especially love the stopwatch feature!
Good idea TERRIBLE execution
Most of the app is not functioning. Even something as simple as scrolling through a menu is completely broken. The only things that actually work are the stopwatch and loot boxes.

I absolutely love using this app every day, and it has helped me more than anything else to get deep work done and to make it really fun! I hope this app can continue to stay alive and get all the funding it needs, because I want to keep using this app forever.
Feel Scammed
As someone with ADHD i decided to give this app a try and got the free trial. It only took a few minutes before i realized this app was not for me. I canceled my subscription and was still charged for a full year and after trying everything i possibly could I was never able to get refunded.

I like the whole dynamic of the app, feeling rewarded for the time you put in, and the whole mediaeval idea is awsome too
Broken experience
The app is pretty slow (and sometime just broke). The UI also sometimes is not loaded completely. I love the idea of the product but at this point, it is not really usable.

Focus Hero is very affective at bridging the gap between the reward systems of classic adventure games and the brains reward system in real life! I wish the graphics were a 32 bit though.

I was enjoying the game, but suddenly the goal-setting time has changed. Previously, it was around 20 hours, but now it suddenly shows 40 hours. Considering the high cost I have paid, I would like this issue to be addressed.

Way too many glitches to even call this a completed product. It’s just not done. Clearly released too soon.
Pay attention to when your trial runs out…
Despite the app’s promises to send a notification before my free trial expired, I received no notification, and was billed a years subscription (around $100 in my currency - not an insignificant amount of money). So I’m pretty unimpressed by that. Feature wise: if I exceed the time set for a task, app doesn’t seem to record any time beyond what was set… so if I set it for 20 mins of chores and do 60 mins without returning to my phone, which should be a good thing, I receive nothing for it (unless I open my phone again and repeat the task… seems counterintuitive since the whole point of this app is to reduce phone time.) I also wish it was possible to keep the wonderful sound effects going while I’m doing a task without leaving my screen on (battery killer). Overall, I really love this app and what it’s trying to do! I probably wouldn’t have paid for it without these features being adjusted… without them, it’s not that useful to me sadly, though it is beautiful and fun to use.

Good idea but literally ruined my week.
This app did not work for my schedule and life; I’m a person who already goes to school and has times where I work, study and reward myself. I did not feel rewarded by its gameplay loop and dropped it after a few days, recognising that it wasn’t for me. I forgot to uninstall this app before I had to pay for the subscription. I am deeply upset at how I can be charged 119 dollars from my savings account without having 119 dollars in my account. I’m now 40 dollars overdrawn. I am a broke ADHD uni student living paycheck to paycheck and it’s actually sick how this app can just take money without telling me. I received no notification from this app despite it saying that it would notify me 24 hours before. Other subscription services will send emails and/or notify the user the card was declined. I recognise this was so dumb of me, and I hope this isnt the developers intention but I can’t help but feel like this app designed for disabled users exploited my disability to make money. I urge others to not make the same mistakes I did. If you believe this app is a long term solution for your productivity that’s awesome but if not the price is ridiculous.
Too many stuffs and functions on the screen, not adhd friendly
I like the concept of games but I cannot even open it because there are too many buttons and functions on the screen. Also there’s a small game in the app so I wasted a lot of time playing the game rather than doing tasks. When I cancelled the free trial, I also noticed that actually the membership fee is $39.99 per year, but the “deal” when it offered me free trail is $99.99 per year. This is very dishonest and scammy.

Lovely
A sweet little game so far, although I’m just at the beginning. I’m not sure if I’ll pay for the whole subscription, but I realize that I haven’t gotten very far as of yet. It’s hard to gain levels, which I guess makes sense because it’s supposed to support habit development but I think it could be a little easier to gain to give me those dopamine hits and keep me interested.
